View Full Version : Good Young Horse Trainer in Dallas/Ft. Worth Area?

I have a 4 yr. old Hanoverian mare that I've been able to work with sporadically. She is quiet under saddle and has had some professional training but hasn't been in consistent work for the past few months.

I injured my ankle and need surgery (part of the reason I haven't been doing anything with my mare). I'll be off riding for quite a while as ankle heals and I go through rehab.

I'd like to send my girl to a trainer during this time but I don't know who is really good in my area. I want someone who is gentle and will take it slow with her (mainly because she's physically out of shape).

Any suggestions? I'd love recommendations based on personal experiences. I've heard too many horror stories about folks sending horses to trainers only to have the horse mistreated.

Thanks!

I would call Jan Walling and ask her about trainers in the area, http://quailrunfarm.net/

She has a friend, Chantal Southam who I kept Phinn with for a few months while I was in the area and Chantal was quite good with the young horses she had, one of those quite, knowledgeable, talented riders who isn't really on anyone's radar.

I can PM you Chantal's email if you'd like.

I'd also ask purplnurple here on the board, she is very good with young horses too from what I've seen and also knows the area well. Same with Toadie's Mom.

Good luck!

that would be me!!

But I have no room right now.
therefore I am no help.

Kadi Eykamp is in our area now. (Keller)

Or, Jody and Kim Taylor. They are a really laid back easy rollin family.

I bought a trail horse from them this summer and spent some time at their farm. I have been area acquaintances with them for some time.

Angela is just down the road from the Taylors.
Angela would be a good one to send a mare to. She likes the mares. : )

Not in Dallas, but Meg Ferguson in Tulsa, OK is excellent! Your horse would be trained by Meg, and spoiled by her mom!

Rebecca Brown is 15 minutes south of Dallas and trains horses as well as students as well. Very professional with lots of experience training young horses. I would definitely recommend her. I believe she has a website too. I can't think of anyone else who hasn't been said. Good luck, and sorry about your ankle!
