View Full Version : Eventing Clinics in VA?
Dec. 24, 2011, 11:10 PM
Who have you attended clinics with in VA? Who did you like/not like and why? When do most clinics start up again in the spring? I have been eventing for a year now at the Beg Nov level and am looking for some fun clinics to go to enjoy with my horse.

I sat in on one of the Lucinda Green clinics down at Wingreen Farm. I think she has a wealth of information for any level rider and adjusted her exercises appropriately for the levels. I did think the group I watched may have been a bit big for my taste, but you really do learn a lot watching others go through the same exercises.
I also rode with Gretchen Butts at Waredaca in MD, which had been a spur of the moment thing (I got a fellow barn member's spot when her horse couldn't go). I was very happy, she gave me some good pointers on really riding the gallop effectively with my big, very forward TB. We also spent time in the stadium ring where we always needed all the help we could get! I think she also teaches well to multiple levels.

Thanks so much! I'm still trying to learn where to look for upcoming clinics and when they might take place. I would love to go audit some as well as try to ride in one :)

We are finalizing dates for a couple of Stephen Bradley clinics at Locochee Farm in Middleburg for the winter, so check in at www.locochee.com or on our FB page for dates. Stephen's website may have dates, too.
Also at Locochee, we are hosting Tom Water's gymnastic clinics this winter. They are LOTS of fun. I'll try to find the links to the discussions about them last year (different locoation last year). Those dates are 1/21, 2/4, and either 3/10 or 17.

Nancy Covert is in the Gordonsville area and she is excellent to work with as an event clinician.
I've heard good things about Molly Bull - in Charlottesville area.
Chris Hitchcock is in the central VA area and from riders I know/respect (up to Training Level) - they really speak highly of him.
I've not ridden with him yet due to lack of suitable horse, but I have seen him handle a very naughty horse with grace and skill.

Stephen is great as a clinician. Both my daughters loved him last week. I also loved his teaching style when I rode with him many years ago.

Paul Ebersole will be doing gymnastics clinics at Morven on Jan 16th, Jan 28th, and Feb 18th which are free to audit. He's also planning to do a cross country clinic at Morven on Mar 3rd, assuming that the weather and footing gods cooperate!

Thanks for all the feedback! I don't have my own trailer so I'm hoping some more clinics coming up are scheduled a few weeks in advance, as I will need to coordinate a ride :)

Not in Virginia, but not too far either. I organize a bunch of clinics in Montgomery County and sometimes Frederick County. They're always on my web site here: http://mythiclanding.com/activities.htm. Or the MLE Facebook Fan page here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mythic-Landing-Enterprises-LLC/231445710243540.
