Doing a bit of Christmas shopping for my sister and had the idea of getting her TB a leather stable halter. Right now he just wears a colored rope halter but looks very hansom in a leather halter. So......COTH hounds sniff me to the trail of nice leather halters for $50 (or less!) please.

Lets see, he does not look good in oakbark colored leather (he is a palomino). I'm thinking maybe Havana with the fancy stitching over the nose or a black halter with white padding.

THANK YOU!!!!

:D:D:D

For $50 or less, you'll have a hard time beating these two:

Before anyone says it--Quillin, Danzig Brothers, Perri's are great too. They're also over $50.

I was looking at a Schneider's catalog today and saw some nice-looking leather halters. Here's one for under $50:

I second the track halter from Tack Shack of Ocala. It is less than $50 and includes a nameplate.

Pinkston's track halters - last forever and look great. They do have a horse size and it is generous.

I use these for my 15 hand crowd.

I have this one:
http://www.kyhorse.com/store/halters/leather/turnouthalter.htm

with snap throat and nameplate, I think it was $45 or so shipped. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I use it as a turnout and I couldn't find it last night and let me tell you you would have thought it was a $100 halter for how panicked I was (I found it ). Love it!

Boy has this one...
http://www.horseloverz.com/Gatsby-Premium-Adjustable-Triple-Stitched-Halter-pr-124831.html

It's the first halter I ever bought for him and it gets the crap beat out of it. I could clean it up tomorrow and it would be show ready.

I love, love, love, quillin's halters! Their brass nameplates are the best out there for the money (at least what I have seen)!

I've actually been really happy with the Classic American leather halter from Dover, which is right about $50. My horse views halters as interestingly-shaped chew toys, and they have withstood him. They're a nice dark leather, so if you don't like oakbark, they may suit.

That halter is my fave. I have three of them and I love the quality for the price. 10x nicer then the dover pro halters.

Of the less expensive leather halters, the Perri's is my favorite: this (http://www.perrisleather.com/product/97548/145/_/Economy_Leather_Halter]this) one

I would prefer a double buckle crown, but for the price, it's really nice. Soft, supple leather from the get go.

I LOVE my halters from Tack Shack of Ocala. Great to work with - they modified their design to my request, and custom-sized them - and beautiful halters! (If you look at their pictures on their FB page, they have a picture of my gelding wearing his).

http://www.tackshackocala.com/3040.html

For the mare size, it's $44.95 without the throat snap. I had a throat snap added ($4.50), and then added a plate ($5.75). I only had the plate added so I could get free shipping, truth be told...

If you're okay with a flat throat, the turnout halter can be had for less than $40.

And their track halter is lovely, as well:

I've seen both Quillin and Tack Shack's halters... I absolutely prefer Tack Shack (though Quillin does have better plates).

What a pleasant surprise! Although I do wonder... if I get 10% off is that before or after the shipping? So, like if your order was a dollar or 2 over $50 when you get 10% off would it not give you free shipping?

A nice leather halter is hard to beat. But picking the nicest leather is the trick - because they all look nice hanging up on the rack. I have one very old halter that was the most expensive in the store at the time but, honestly, it cleans up a dream and is still handsome. Not saying you should buy expensive, but look for quality in the leather and stitching. Hardware should be brass. I love lovely leather.

Do you guys think the Tack Shack of Ocala Stallion sized halter would fit a WB with... not a huge head but definitely not a dainty one lol
