Last week, everyone! Emails need to be in by Oct. 31st!
It's that time of year again...
Most of you are well familiar with this already, but for those who are new or need a little reminder, this is what you need to do:
Send an email to COTHswap@hotmail.com with the following information:
1. Your screen name
2. Your real name and address
3. A price range you'd be willing to spend on your partner (i.e. $20, $50, etc)
4. Whether or not you'd be willing to ship overseas or to Canada if needed
5. A description of yourself! This is your chance to tell your partner about who you are, what you like/need/want/dislike/etc. Tell us about your discipline, your horse(s) if you have one, your tastes, things you'd like to have, or things you really don't need. Be creative, be specific if you'd like, or just describe yourself in general and leave your gift up to the creativity of your Santa http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
We need to have all emails by NOVEMBER 1st so we have time to match them up and give everyone plenty of time to shop.
Gifts should be mailed out by the FIRST WEEK of DECEMBER so that any post office issues/delays/etc can be hopefully avoided http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I do have a list of the grinched/grinchers from last year, and if you were grinched, I sincerely hope you sign up again http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Thanks, and have fun!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I just saw this today and signed up. My first time was last year and it was a really fun experience. Easy for me because the person who got me as their SS was very specific about what she wanted. My SS was just great and emailed me several times with questions. (I wasn't specific at all in my initial email!) The gift I got was just perfect and I loved it! Thanks again for organizing such a fun event!

I want to play, but I don't know what I want yet! How specific do I have to be? What price catagory do most people choose?
AllWeatherGal
Oct. 15, 2005, 07:51 PM
caryledee ... you can be as unspecific as you trust your secret santa to guess well http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
i think it's nice to describe yourself a bit ... size, horse info, style of riding, interests ... as well as list a few items you'd really like within the price range, and things you really do NOT want (e.g., chocolate)
you just want to make it easy on your secret santa ... it's a little nerve wracking, worrying if your person likes the gifts.
i have no idea what price category most people choose, i typically go for the high end cuz my "shopping" is limited.

i look forward to this all year! i never know what i want, i like suprises. i try to be creative for other people. last year, i searched the screen name of the person i got, found that she had posted a link to some pro-photos of her and her horse, so i ordered a mousepad of the photo from the photographer. i thought it was pretty cool- she liked it too

Jill ... those are LOVELY!!! And yes, I'll send instructions. I used to have some posted, but honestly? I created the instructions for people who wanted to make their own and kinda got bummed when I saw browbands identical to mine for sale on eBay. I mean, not that it's not a free country and nobody signed an NDA or anything, but I make these to raise money for horse charities ... and to not even get a thank you just bummed me out.
I mean, I didn't make it up, but I sure did thank Martha who started me on my path!

Do we ever get to acknowledge and thank our Santas? Because I make some mean horse treats...which have yet to be refused by any horse. Of course, they look like turds (not to be gross) so shipping may be a little dicey if someone at Customs opens it up..."Oh no...not ANOTHER American sending turds to Canada! I'm getting so excited about this - last time I was in a Secret Santa scheme was in the dorms at college. I ended up having my person, plus ungrinched another person, but got grinched myself - this sounds like it's going to be so much better!
For those who may (or may not) be interested in chocolate - said chocolate comes in assorted flavours - white with lemon, milk with hazelnut, feijoa or a couple other flavours I can't think of, or dark. The feijoa is my favourite, but the lemon is pretty good also. Please specify.

I'm going to take the credit here and admit that I was Tiramit's Secret santa last year. Its was soooo much fun shopping for presents - There wasn't much horsey stuff, just lots of NZ stuff. Yep, it's expensive to send, but really worth it. AND then I got a huge parcel in return - lots of yummy stuff and things to read. THe other great thing is that Tiramit and I are still keeping in touch and up to date with each other. This year I'll have two parcels to send off!

It's some weeks before Christmas and all cross the Board, Secret Santas will be hunting for good girls and good boys. The stockings are knitted and stacked on a shelf, just waiting for goodies to be stuffed in by an elf.
Santa has heard, it's been in the air....it seems this past year Chocomare has taken good care. She's been nice and not naughty, she's been a good girl. Santa's so happy, he wishes there were more like her in the world. So Santa is putting his thinking cap on, to make sure there are fun gifts for her come Christmas dawn!

OK, now I'm confused. What is this "secret santa alter contact thread"? I have not recieved my secret santa yet, but are we supposed to contact them when we find out who we get? Huh? Help, this is my first year doing this!
Thanks everybody!

Guys, please use PTs to contact your SS partners. I don't mind allowing a little SS silliness on the board, but we do want to keep it confined to one or two threads.

I got mine! I got my Secret Santa! This is going to be a hard one to shop for. My raindeer are not that good at flying so I am going to have to send it by Air. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

And no, we elves don't know who we have either - we matched each other up so it's all a surprise!
Last batch of emails should be going out today, so if you still don't have one, don't fret...
