to work with shell development company in Nigeria and as well a one time secret agent intransfering of money overse as for the Late head of state of Nigeria {Late Gen.SANI ABACHA.) Before his death On the 21st of April 2000 [my client, his wife And their three children were involved in a car accident along sagbama

Since his death I have made several enquiries to your embassy to locate any of my clients extended relatives this has also proved unsuccessful. After these several unsuccessful attempts,I decided to trace his last name over the Internet, to locate any member of his family hence I contacted you. I have contacted you to assist

No kidding, I received a very similar email about 10 years ago. I remember which e account it was sent to and that was an account I had open from '94 to about mid '95 - rocketmail, anybody remember that one? I guess they're hoping that the people that were on the net that long ago (me!) are all in old age homes now. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

Emmanuel,
Thank-you for contacting me! I'm so sad to hear that one of my extended relatives succumbed to a tragic car accident. And to hear that the entire family died is just devastating to me. Hopefully, the family did not suffer.
It's very interested to hear that Garry Dopko was employed as a Secret Agent as I've always had dreams of entering the FBI or Forensic Science. I supposed it runs in our blood.
I'm surprised that I would be Garry's next of kin?!? Although there aren't many Dopko's out there, I would think my father, Mr. Ralph Dopko, would be next in line before me but...for $20 million dollars, I'm willing to keep this CONFIDENTIAL, like you asked.
The only concern that I have is the percentage that you are going to be taking. If the $20 million dollars was left as an inheritance, how does the percentage work out to you getting 70% of the funds? I would think 30% of the funds going to you would be more than adequate.
Please let me know what needs to be done to get the funds transferred over as I'm definitely glad to help.
Sincerely,
Tracy Dopko

I just keep deleting them but I've been waiting for another good one to come along. Like Onyx said, this one in particular is pretty horrible!

From: Mr Antoine Bamba
MIC Abidjan Cote'Ivoire
RE: Assistance to supply a vaccine,
I write to solicit your assistance and support to enable me execute a very lucrative and high profiting business transaction. I am very confidence that with trust and understanding, we can be able to execute this business to our mutual benefit and believe that you will not let down the trust and confidence I am willing to repose in you. I work for an Ivorien based public international firm (MIC), I work as the Liaison officer. Between the 17th -19th of may, 2001 a business seminar was held in Bouake, Cote d´Ivoire of which I attended. While in the Seminar, I was opportune to meet Alhaji Bakari A. Ouattara, the President of BAKALI FARMS ETS. Alhaji Ouattara is an accomplished and widely known and recognised millionaire farmer in this part of the region. He has farms in different countries of West Africa. But above all, he is one of the greatest supplier of cattle, beef and other diary products in this part of the West Coast.
On knowing my profession, Alhaji Ouattara took me into confidence by informing me about the purchase of a particular but very important medicine for his cattle. He informed me that he buys this product at $4,000.00 USD per carton, and that he mostly buys to the excess of 500 cartons. He informed me that he was only asking me to find out if my organisation could source for a cheaper supplier considering the recent trend of falls in the general price of beef in the world market which is affecting his business. Back in my office, I discussed this proposal with my boss and he decided to handle the supply by himself, We carried out a market research and discovered that we could purchase these medicine somewhere cheaper in Europe for $2,300.00 USD per carton .
We moved proposal to BAKALI FARMS to make the supply to them at$3,800.00 USD per carton of which he accepted. Owing to my role in the transaction, I had an agreement with my director to be receiving 25%of whatever gain is made on each supply of which he agreed. But on the completion of the supply and the receipt of the payment, my boss changed on our agreement and refused to give me my share of the profit. Since then our relationship has been at its lowest ebb. I have since accepted it as one of life experiences.
However, as God would have it, recently, I intercepted a letter of request from Alhaji Ouattara asking my boss to supply him with 500 cartons of the same product before the end of March, this year. I seized the letter and this letter will never get to my boss. I personally contacted Alhaji Ouattara and informed him that I can introduce him to the producer who is ready to supply him the product at $3,400.00 USD if he will pay in advance as he usually do. He was very pleased and is right now waiting to be contacted by my partner. We will buy the medicine at $2,300.00 USD from Europe and sell at $3,400.00USD to BAKALI FARMS with him first paying 50% of our quoted price in advance. I will be entitled to 35% of whatever profit we make.
If you are capable of handling this supply with me, kindly get back to me urgently through email for us to negotiate on how to handle the business
Thanks for your anticipated cooperation.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Antoine Bamba
antoine.bamba@libero.it
I wrote him back and said I don't do drugs, or at least drugs for cattle. I got this snippy response back:
***
Dear,
thank you for email. Listen, you really do not understand me. i want you to act as my foreign contact to be able to acheive my aim. You need not be a producer to do this. all the steps to follow will be intiated by me but I need a foriegn contact to represent the procuding company. in a short not, you will act like a producer while in the actual sense you will do the work of a supply.
Please go through my mail carefully and get back to me
Antoine
I told him it didn't sound like an honest proposition and I've never heard back.

Emmanuel,
I'm not sure what to do about giving you a phone number. I can't give you my home number as I am staying with my father and I don't have a cell phone. Maybe you could give me your number and I'll contact you. Actually, you have been working very hard on closing this case and deserve a little bit of a break so why don't you let me call you and take up some of the costs?
The other problem is my direct contact coordinates. I'm not sure what you mean by that. Do you mean, where I live longitudinally and latitudally on the continent? Or do you mean my mailing address? We get our mail at a PO Box because we live out on an acreage in the country. As far as where our house is, exactly, we just give people driving directions to get out here. I can give you driving directions if you want.
And lastly, I don't have a passport. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I've never been anywhere in my life, hence, no need for one. But I'm thoroughly looking forward to going somewhere once I receive the inheritance money. Probably Hawaii. Why is it that you need a copy of my passport?
If it will help you, I can always contact a lawyer at my end to help me get all of the information together that you will require to release the funds. Let me know if you'd like me to do that.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Tracy

It must be the former, since the grammar is bad, but the spelling is pretty good. Anyone who has bad grammar and punctuation would als o spell poorly.

if you give them the phone number they will call you through relay. Its free for them and then we as relay operators get to say "the person who is calling you is calling from outside the country, our service is for domestic calls only. relay can no longer assist with this call. thank you. (click)"

This IS identity theft. I work for an online retailer and these guys get this info from these naive, unsuspecting people. They must use the passport info to get access to SSNs and credit card numbers.
We've had three stolen credit cards attempted to be used on our site in the last few months. It's a serious, serious problem.

I just received your email this morning. I am also interested in ironing out some of the grey areas. But, you did not send me a correct phone number.
You did send me a three digit area code along with a seven digit number but there are two area codes (+234 805 514 6890)?!? Which area code should I use? The 234 or the 805?
I will be away for a few days on business so will phone you as soon as I get back and find out which is the right area code. I know the whole time I'm away at the conference I will only be able to think about Hawaii and possibly a new car!!
Cheers,
Tracy

Dear Tracy,
thanks for your mail, infact i re-asure you i am going to wipe away your tears because of your numerous interest in this transaction.I advice you to always use this email address emmtake@eudoramail.com.
The other two email address is complicating issues please don't use them again, lets use only this email address especially when ever you are replying use emmtake@eudoramail.com for security reason. You are advice to forget the formal telephone number that i gave to you Don't call me with the number because my wife is now using the line, and i wouldn't want her to know much about my besiness please you should follow my instructions.
So send to me reply as the diplomat will leave to your country this week to deliver the consigment to your designated address as soon as they arrive they will contact you. Before that, you should call my direct line 234-803-329-9938 always, and get me replied with this email address emmtake@eudoramail.com do this immediately as soon as you read this mail call me.
I am through with all the necessary arrangement call this number 234-803-329-9938 immediately for the commencement of the diplomat for the delivery of the fund to your country i hope the whole thing is well understood, keep it as a top secret.
I look forward to hear from you urgently.

Either way, if diplomats are now ready for the commencement, is it possible for you to Fed-Ex the papers to me and whatever documents that need to be signed? I will be sure to sign them and Fed-Ex them right back to you.
All I could think about while I was away was how nice Hawaii is going to be this time of year. Of course, you must know how cold Canada is, especially this time of year? It will be so nice to lay on a beach and forget about the polar bears and igloos!

FOR THE EARLY CONCLUTION OF THIS DIPLOMATIC ARRANGEMENT, KINDLY SEND TO ME YOUR DESIGNATED ADDRESS, WHERE YOU WANT THE DIPLOMATIC DELIVERY OFFICIALS THAT WILL ACCOMPANY YOUR CONSIGNMENT DELIVER THE CONSIGNMENT TO YOU.
YOU ARE HIGHLY ADVICE TO FORWARD TO ME YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER AS IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU HAVE ONE AS IMMEDIATELY THE DIPLOMATIC OFFICIALS ARRIVE YOUR COUNTRY THEY WILL CONTACT YOU FIRST ON TELEPHONE, SO THAT YOU WILL ASSIST THEM PAY THE FEE FOR THE (YELOW TAG)INCLUDING THE CLEARING FEE OF THE CONSIGNMENT OUT FROM THE CUSTODY OF YOUR COUNTRY CUSTOMS AND EXERCISE. THIS WILL ENABLE THEM DELIVER THE CONSIGNMENT SAFELY TO YOU.SO THAT IS WHY YOU ADVICE TO GET YOURSELF A TELEPHONE AS A BUSINESS PERSON.
THIS WILL ALSO ENABLE YOU TO BE COMMUNICATING WITH ME AS TO BE GIVEN ME INFORMATIONS REGARDING YOUR INTERACTIONS WITH THE DIPLOMATS UNTIL THEY ARE SUCCESSFULLY DELIVERED OF THE FUND CONSIGNMENT.SO ONCE AGAIN YOU CAN CALL ME ON MY DIRECT TELEPHONE:234-803-329-9938.IMMEDIATELY YOU DIAL MY TELEPHONE NUMBER DIRECTLY THE WAY I STATED IT IN THE MAIL,YOU MUST SURELY GET IT THRU.
SO I SOON AS I HEAR FROM YOU REGARDING THE NEEDED INFORMATION INCLUDING YOUR ABILITY OF ASSISTING THE DIPLOMATS AS SOON AS THEY ARRIVE YOUR CONTRY AND CONTACT'S YOU FOR THE ASSISTANCE TO PAY FOR THE (YELOW TAG) WITH THE CLEARANCE FEE, I WILL PROCEED WITH THE PROCESSING AND TAKE CARE OF THE WHOLE EXPENSES THAT WILL BE INCURED IN THE CAUSE OF PROCESSING THIS DIPLOMATIC ARRANGEMENT.
I WILL ALSO SEND YOU THE AIRWAY BILL, WHICH THE CONSIGNMENT WILL BE AIRLIFTED WITH,ENROUTE TO YOUR COUNTRY,INCLUDING THE PICTURE OF THE MONEY BEFORE IT WILL BE PACKAGE IN THE DIPLOMATIC BOX CONSIGNMENT FOR YOUR PERUSAL.

Emmanuel,
I've tried the number that you gave me twice and it does not work. So,
I'm not sure what else to do? I assume it has something to do with the
number being an international call?
This is the first time you've mentioned that I have to assist in paying
a fee for the yellow tag. How much will that cost as I will gladly pay
whatever fees need to be paid? If I'm getting an inheritance of $20 million
than the fees for the yellow tag will be peanuts!
I assume that there are some documents that need to be signed and forms
that I will need to fill out. For right now, just to make sure my father,
Mr. Ralph Dopko (we call him Ralph Shmalph or Shmalphers), does not catch on
to this, is it possible for you to send me the documentation to fill out and
I will try and provide you with another phone number and direct mailing

DEAR TRACY,
THANKS FOR YOUR MAILS, AS I CAN NOW SEE THAT YOU ARE VERY TRANSPERENT AND TRUSTWORTHY TO DO BUSINESS WITH.I REALLY UNDERSTAND YOUR ENTIRE PREDICAMENT, AND I WILL NEVER GO CONTRARY TO THEM.
MY DEAR IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU SEND ME YOUR FULL CONTACT ADDRESS-WHERE THE DIPLOMAT WILL DELIVER THE CONSIGNMENT AS A PORT OF DESTINATION WHEN THEY ARRIVE.YOU SHOULD ALSO MAKE SURE THAT YOU KEEP RECORD OF ALL THE EXPENDITURES THAT MIGHT BE INCURE IN THE CAUSE OF ACTUALISING THIS TRANSACTION IN EARNEST, AS ME DOWN HERE HAS MY OWN RECORD TOO OF WHATEVER EXPENSES I INCURED.
SO IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO SEND AN ADDRESS TO ME, EITHER YOUR HOME OR YOUR WORKING PLACE ADDRESS, BECAUSE THIS WILL ENABLE ME TO ENDORSE YOUR ADDRESS IN THE AIRWAY BILL WHICH I WILL SENT TO YOU AS AN E-MAIL ATTACHMENT FOR YOU TO COUNTER SIGN YOUR SIGNATURE ON IT AFTER WHICH YOU SEND IT BACK TO ME FOR RECORD PURPOSES, WHILE YOU ALSO KEEP THE PHOTO COPY OF IT FOR YOUR RECORDS AND PERUSAL.
MY DEAR IN MY OWN THINKING, SINCE IT IMPRATICABLE FOR YOU TO HAVE YOUR OWN TELEPHONE, I BELIEVE IT IS MORE HONOURABLE FOR YOU TO PAY FOR THE (YELOW TAG)/CLEARNCE FEE DOWN HERE VIA THE DIRECTOR OF THE DIPLOMATIC DELIVERY CORPS SYSTEM, DR. TOM TIDA.SO YOU ARE HIGHLY ADVICE TO CONTACT THE DIRECTOR ON HIS OFFICIAL E-MAIL ADDRESS:-(diplocorps_nigpost@yahoo.co.uk) AND ASK HIM HOW MUCH IT WILL COST FOR THE YELOW TAG, INCLUDING THE CLRANCE FEE, SO THAT YOU CAN MAKE THE PAYMENT DIRECTLY TO THEM, SO AS TO ENABLE THE DIPLOMATS LEAVE TO YOUR COUNTRY AND CLEAR OUT THE CONSIGNMENT AND DELIVER IT TO YOUR DESTINATION- THE ADDRESS YOU WHERE REQUIRED TO FORWARD TO ME, AS IMMEDIATELY THE DIPLOMATS DELIVER AND YOU CONFIRM TO ME THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVE THE FUND CONSIGNMENT, I WILL COME OVER FOR THE DISBURSEMENT OF THE SAID FUND AS I EARLIER TOLD YOU,WHICH I WILL EVEN WANT TO TRAVEL DOWN TO THAT HAWAI, THAT YOU HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT.
SO SEND YOUR ADDRESS AS STATED ABOVE, AND ALSO INTRUCT THE DIRECTOR OF THE DIPLOMATS IN YOUR MAIL TO HIM, FOR HIM TO SEND YOU THE PICTURE OF THE FUND CONSIGNMENT AS AN ATTACHMENT BEFORE IT WAS BEEN PACKAGE IN THE DIPLOMATIC BOX CONSIGNMENT FOR YOUR PESUSAL, PLEASE AS SOON AS YOU GET THE PICTURE,YOU SHOULD NOT DISCLOSE IT OR SHOW THE PICTURE ATTACHMENT TO ANYBODY, JUST KEEP VERY CONFIDENTIAL TO YOURSELF.
PLEASE, DON’T HESITATE TO KEEP ME POSTED REGARDING YOUR CONCLUSION WITH THE DIRECTOR OF THE DIPLOMATIC DELIVERY CORPS SYSTEM REGARDING YOUR INTERACTION WITH HIM THROUGH THE E-MAIL, AND ALSO CONFIRM THE RECEIPT OF THE PICTURE OF THE MONEY VIA E-MAIL ATTACHMENT.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am Joseph Williams, a Liberian Soldier. I worked as a Body guard to the
exiled President of Liberia, Charles Taylor who is now in seeking asylum
in Nigeria, When it Became obvious last year that our President Taylor
was going to be forced out of office, I escaped From Liberia to Nigeria
too in a very precarious and Dangerous manner. I have been in Nigeria now
for two Months in a very difficult situation.
After much consultation with a Liberian lawyer who Lives here in Nigeria,
I decided to write you this Letter. I want to inform you that Charles
deposited several consignments of money in Europe, and as I was escaping,
I escaped with a file which contains the documents of the
consignment he deposited With the Finance security company in Europe. This
consignment contains US$25M, and it was taken to Europe via Sierra Leone
on 14th 0f Feb. 2003 by freight order. I was Aware of the transaction. I
have called the Finance security Company in Europe to confirm if the
consignment is still with them and they have confirmed the existence of
the consignment.
I have all the legal documents which will help us convince the Finance
security Company in Europe that you are the bonafide beneficiary of the
Consignment, this is because it was not deposited in The name of Charles
Taylor, instead he used a personal identification number (PIN), therefore
if you present all the documents that The Finance security company wants
as a [PROOF OF OWNERSHIP] they Will release the consignmentto you.
Note: I have trusted and bestowed all my trust in you and please do not
let me down as this is the only money I solely depend on for survival I

Dearest Dr. Tom Tida,
I received your email this morning regarding the consignment money and photos of the funds. Wow! It's just amazing to look at. The photos are just so overwhelming. That is really a lot of money.
I was telling Emmanuel that I have already started planning a trip to Hawaii but now, after seeing the funds in person, I think I might make my stay in Hawaii long term. I should ask quickly...actually, it's quite a trivial question but, what do you want me to do with the suitcases when I receive the money. Do you require them back? The reason I ask is because I absolutely fell in love with the paisley colored trunk and would greatly wish to keep it. Let me know if that is possible?
I should clear up that I am not Mr. Tracy Dopko or Sir but MISS Tracy Dopko. I assume the airway bill will have to be redone as it says MR. Tracy on the current airway bill. Please forward me a copy of the new airway bill so I can have it for my records and keep track of where the money is en route.
The funds are insured for $15,000 US on the airway bill. Should it not be insured for more? I will gladly pay extra for more insurance. If more insurance is possible, please let me know the extra costs and I will include it with the money wire? It states that the total funds is $70.875 US but I thought I was receiving 30% of $20 million? Is the rest of the money coming at a later date?
You asked me to include the text question and answer as well as the control number for the money wire but you did not include those numbers and information in any of your emails. Please forward the text question, answer and control number at your earliest convenience so I can get the money wire set in place.
My last question is regarding the fees for the yellow tag and clearance fee. I did not realize it was going to be so much money and in US funds!!! Once the $10,000 US is converted over to Canadian dollars, I will be having to pay close to $15,000 CDN. Is there anyway that your superiors could have me pay $10,000 CDN funds rather than US funds? It would be greatly appreciated if he could do this kind favor for me.
Lastly, it will take me a bit of time to come up with the money as I don't currently have access to $10,000 cash but, rest assured, I WILL not let you down.
I am incredibly excited!
Thank-you. Thank-you. Thank-you.
Yours Sincerely,
MISS Tracy Dopko

It is so nice to see that what I had thought of as the scourge of online scamming can in fact be an uplifting, community-building enterprise. Perhaps Emmanuel and his pal Tom Tida can get a government grant to keep up the good work. Daventry, you could be a subcontractor, but I see you are Canadian. I just read this thread today, and noted with great ammusement that a diplomat's official email is a yahoo account from the UK even!
The self-stick shelf-paper liners in the cases are a nice touch as well!
I also think that you should have the brainstorm of having them take the $10k out of your money...tell them that your other funds are tied up for another 3 weeks, and subject to serious financial penalty for early withdrawl.

Well, I phoned Western Union (located out of our local Safeway grocery store) to see how much it would cost to send a money wire for ONE CENT to the UK. Of course, I had to explain the whole story as the lady thought my cheese had slid off of my cracker. Unfortunately, it will cost me $18 to send the money wire. Too bad http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif
In any route, I thought I should let everybody know, I've already come up with "an ending to my book" and it makes me laugh just to think about it so stay tuned.
To keep everyone involved and entertained, I have decided to take on some 'viewer' suggestions. You've asked for more love, possible romance and on the edge of your seat twists...well actually, no, no one has asked for that but what the heck...you're going to get it. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Emmanuel,
Thanks for your email this morning and concern with what's going on
between the Diplomat and myself. I unfortunately had a hard time reading
through your email. The language barrier causes some misunderstandings and
confusion sometimes. It makes me laugh it does. In the end, we've always
been able to keep communicating.
Dr. Tida said you visited his office yesterday, in person, regarding the
$10,000 CDN fee. I just can't thank you enough for being so kind. It
really shows how much compassion and concern you have for your clients. My
plan is to pay the total $10,000 US amount once I have the money but at this
point in time, I just don't have that much money at my disposal, but I am
able to come up with $10,000 CDN for now.
This may be a little bit off topic but, Emmanuel, are you married? The
reason I asked is because you hinted at possibly going to Hawaii with me. I
would be glad to have your company on my trip to Hawaii and it would be neat
to meet the person that brought me all of this good fortune. I tend to get
a bit wild if I have any alcohol and, rest assured, I am planning on having
my share of Mai-Tai's while relaxing on the beach! Who knows, love has
sprung up in stranger situations. If you are already involved, that's OK
too. You're more than welcome to bring your partner along and I'll just
find someone else to bring along with me. The offer is still open if you
are interested in sharing a wonderful trip with me.
Thanks for all your efforts yesterday!
Tracy

Tom,
Thanks for your quick reply back, concerning all of my questions. To answer a few more of your questions...I would like to pay by Western Union rather than the other route. It is probably the easiest for everybody involved.
I talked with Emmanuel this morning and he said he asked you to fill out a new delivery slip with the name change. Could you please forward me a copy of the new delivery slip at your earliest convenience so I can just keep track of where the trunks are.
I may still need a few days to come up with the total amount of $10,000 CDN as I do not have immediate access to that much cash. I do have about $700 CDN I could forward to you right now or would you rather just wait and receive the total amount?
Actually, as I am writing this, I just came up with an idea that may solve everyone's problems and getting the trunks moving quickly. Since you have all of the money right there with you, why don't you just take $10,000 US right out of the trunks. If you are not authorized to do so, I'll be glad to sign any waiver, etc. and fax it over authorizing you to access the money within the trunks. That way, the process could commence immediately. I'm sure Emmanuel would be able to draw up some kind of document or waiver allowing you access to the trunks.
Let me know how you will proceed,
Tracy

Dear Tracy,
compliments of the day,I receive your mail, which was well understood.
my own interest is for the fund consignment to get to you, while I will be more deligted to come over and see you, so that you can also see me as well.
Please you should find possible means to see that you finanlise issues with the diplomats, which the consignment has already been packaged and sealed, ready for delivery to you.As the duty of the diplomat is to diliver,as they don't know much about the transaction between you and I.Just comply in sending the little money for them,so as to enable us conclude this delivery soonest.
They are just waiting for us to come up with the Yelow Tag and Clearance fee, so that they will leave than to your country, nevertheless I am still very single, that was why I said earlier that as soon as the consignment is deliver to you,I will come over and catch the fun together with you,so don't make any arrangement towards bringing in somebody for yourself,am already there in for you.
I have started making arrangement for my trip with the embassy for them to issue me a visa,so that I will come over, immediately you confirm to me that the consignment has arrive your destination,I will now give you a date of my travel and also the airline that I will come with to enable you come to the airport to pick me.
so my dear tracy, please is in you i put my hope and my future arrangement, because this will lead me to loose my chamber here in Nigeria.
Please I have also explain to the director that the money will be paid bit by bit (installmentaly),so you are also adive to be yourself when sending the money, incase of any illegal questions from the cashiers.
Tracy,I repose confidence in you.Just do that to wipe out shame from my friends in the office of the Director of the diplomats,so that in next occurancy,he give all assistance.
Looking forward to hear from you.

It's a no go on the nude photos. One, I want to keep this clean and tasteful as we get a ton of kids on our website and two, you just never know how someone you don't know is going to react. Anyone who decides to scam for a living probably doesn't have many morals so who knows how they will react...
if he had my email address and knew my name the day he first emailed me then he's been on one of my websites which means he has access to my phone number, etc. and I don't want to be waking up at 3 am to answer the phone from some creep.
Clean and tatseful all the way! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
But, I do have to say, I loved the idea of suggesting that Tom was willing to pay the $10,000 and he's comin' to Awahee!!!

Love the game Daventry. So much so that I decided to play with two of them that I got. I have answered one, and am pitting the other against him by telling him I am already involved in a transaction but if he can do better financially I would be happy to cancel my other business plans. Oh, and my contact name? I. P. Freeleigh of the Puritan Water Works Company; our motto: We Work Hard To Keep Your Water Flowing. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
I will give you my plan when they start actually asking for the money: I might actually spend the $18 (personally, had some OT this pay period!) to wire a buck but tell them it is the actual amount. Or at least get a WU form and fake the transfer numbers then congratulate them that they got the money and tell them you got confirmation from WU that they did and ask for YOUR payment. If they push that they don't have it use the name of another scam email sender as the point of contact for receiving it. Maybe they will actually turn on each other over there.
For everyone else's amusement this is the email I received today from scam artist number 2 and as GOD as my witness I SWEAR I did NOT make up the last sentence!

To give yourself some more time you could tell him there is a problem with them sending you US funds...that if you take the US funds to the bank you will have to pay a VAT or something tax because of the dollar amounts and it wouldnt be worth it (you would loose at least half the money). The cost of sending the money wire depends on how much you are sending. I inquired about sending the rest of the money and I will be sending it in one lump sum as otherwise, it's going to cost me more money than I have to spare. I've also included the text question and answer as well as a copy of the money wire.

i wouldn't attempt to play games with these people. it is not safe. they can scrape your other web sites and places you shop for account numbers, ss#, etc.
i really, really, really think trying to mess with them is a really, really, really big mistake. hands off.
it is the same old thing, the old pigeon drop, and it is always the same scheme one way or another, attempt to get you to give them something they want for something of no value that they convince you has value.
and keep in mind, your email address, any information about you, is all they need to be able to defraud you, such as by opening new accounts in your name, remember they don't need existing account numbers to defraud you. for example if they have already gotten your SS#, they will invent some story that somewhere along the way involves them finding out what your birthday is, then they can open anything they want and start charging bills to your name.
remember, these people may seem stupid, but often they are not, and unwittingly, by attempting to get the better of them or even by just attempting to waste their time, you are going to get yourself in a world of hurt.
YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED, that even if you are very rude or uncooperative with these people, they will continue to patiently communicate with you, pretty much no matter HOW uncooperative you are or how much of their time you waste. THAT is because, sooner or later, you will give them something they can use.
REMEMBER...no matter how stupid they appear and no matter how clever you think you are....they are gonna get you, and the more you communicate with them the easier you are making it for them to do so.
never, EVER underestimate a scam artist. NEVER. in fact, in reading these gloating accounts, i've spotted several potential ways in which the person could have got just what they wanted from you. remember, they are not as stupid as they seem.

Considering that I absolutely do NO on-line shopping, banking, etc. and the fact that my address is a box number in the middle of nowhere, I'm not too concerned. The fact that I've got more information about them...phone numbers, account numbers, etc. leads me to believe that when all this is done, they'll be gone pretty fast.
The fact that this guy is using this lame scam in an attempt to get money and falls for me desperately wanting the paisley trunk and wanting to run away to Hawaii with him leads me to believe he's too stupid to figure out how to do identity theft, steal SS#, etc. If he knew how to do that, he wouldn't be doing the lame Nigerian scam!

Anything you save on your computer...Do you check your bank account online, your credit card statements via the internet?
If you use IE, you are opening yourself up to a world of trouble, it's very, very unsecure. No browser is perfect, but IE is by far the worst.
If you do your taxes on your computer, that information gets saved to your drive, and all it takes is someone sneaking into your computer to get your SSN, or anything else you may have done on your PC at one point in time.
Just be careful, I always advise people to set up a firewall, and watch what they do and how they do it on their computer.
Yes, it's your computer, but the internet just opens your computer up to everything bad in the world.
I do all of my personal banking, taxes, financial or personal anything behind a firewall and I do not leave it connected to the internet when I am not using it.

question:
I am in the middle of wrapping up a 3 week back to back conversation with a
Nigerian scam artist. This is the second time I've done this and posted all
of the letters on my website.
I have basically had them running around looking for the money wire I
'supposedly' sent them, cost them time & money, etc.
Anyways, here's my concern...someone emailed me to warn me to be careful.
She thought if this guy gets mad enough (when he finds out I've been
scamming him) he'll do something like identity theft or steal my social
insurance number, etc. I'm thinking, if he's doing the Nigerian Scam, he's
too dumb to think up anything else or let alone, figure out how to do it.
Have you heard from anyone that had the Nigerian scam backfire on them when
they started messing with the scammer?
Thanks,
Tracy
-----------------------------------------------
No, the Nigerians simply go on to the next attempted victim. If you have
sent them any personal info (bank accounts or SSN) their next step will be
identity theft, whether or not you break it off.
Brad Christensen, using his own name, has actually been able to entice the
scammers to fly to the Rome airport to meet him and to take some other
strange trips and waste money. Although they've been absolutely furious,
they've never tried anything in the way of revenge against him -- they've
not going to come to the U.S. where they could easily be caught, and from
their viewpoint it's not profitable to pursue him.

Unless you are going from Miami to Cape Town (which is about 900 bucks or so), there aren't really direct flights- generally they are routed through Europe (I have spent *days* in various European airports, waiting for my next connection) Added to the expense, which is in the 1000s, one must obtain a visa, which costs money, not only the basic fee, but (in many cases) one has to pay bribes.
These people are doing this to several intended victims at a time- most big and medium and even some small African cities have internet cafes where one can spend a little money and send out lots of emails. Universities and libraries have computers, too. In fact, Nigeria and South Africa are the two most connected countries on the continent. So the initial outlay is fairly small, but following up a failure with travelling to the US would be incredibly expensive and time-consuming. Travelling from African states to European states isn't all that expensive- it is the total trip from Africa to Europe to North America that costs a lot. The cheapest I have ever been able to do is to get a ticket from the States to a European airport and then another ticket twelve hours down the continent to Namibia or South Africa- all of which cost me around 750 bucks and took four days. But I'm a very frequent traveler and I know how to find the best rates by looking exhaustively and booking months in advance and so on. I don't think Mule is going to be doing that sort of research when Tracy dumps him- he's just going to move along to the next guy.
You can take a line and say it isn't straight- but that wont change its shape. Jets to Brazil

go onto the internet sometime, any search engine. type in your name. your address and phone number will appear.
step one. now just a few more steps and they have your birthday, and your SS number. and with all that, they can open new accounts in your name, and anythign else they want to do.
and, anything you have written at any time in any email, and just about anything else, is available.
on some county web sites, they can find any wills, property exchanges, arrests, and a great deal more info about you.
you can laugh all you want at their 'scams', most of the time, all they want to do is connect and have a little bit of your time, and you will have been HAD, big time.
remember, anyone with a modicum of internet savvy can literally steal everything yiou have. everything.
do not open unknown email, and for god's sake, for GOD'S SAKE, DON'T answer it. ever.
you all who think it's SOOOO clever to answer scam mail and play with them...you're playing right into their hands.

I was stalked over the internet by an admitted bi-polar schitzophrenic I knew on a message board. I thought I was safe with my board name and email that was not connected to anything personal -- until he posted one day that he knew where I lived, how old I was, and everything else about me. And he did. He found me because my real name was buried on another site that used my anonymous email. One he had my real name, it was all over with. He even had a map to my house.
Luckily, he's harmless (he just liked bothering people with looking up where they lived), but it showed me that anyone can find you unless you are incredibly careful.

Geez, slc, quit being such a major alarmist. I work for a major corp on their intranet, extranet, internet and straight b-to-b. Yes, there are some issues, but if you are wise with your information there is NO WAY they will find you or hunt down all your credit information. How many people publish or give out their SSN any more? If they do, then they need to stop. But you can't even find details on me on the internet. I've had people try to no avail--because I know how to cover my tracks.
Even if you don't know how to cover them, unless you're in the habit of throwing your information out to the world all the time, you're not going to have a problem. Heck, most of these scammers are NOT that computer/internet literate. They use the medium just like most average people. If they were into stealing identies and not just duping people, they'd be doing that already. It's takes a lot less effort, if you already have that skill set.
I'm actually enjoying this. It's a riot. The scammer obviously has this thing down and is used to dealing with morons. Daventry is not a moron.

slc, you really need to lighten up just a little. And for once (this post) is going to be longer than any of yours.
As I've said, right from the beginning of starting this post...he already knows who I am. Our email address is registered under our farm name and my mother's name, NOT mine. But, from the beginning, he was the one that called me Tracy. He's the one that searched me on the internet as a relative of Gerry Dopko. He could only have known my name if he indeed did search 'Dopko' on the internet. If he really hasn't searched Daventry Farms or Tracy Dopko on the internet already, then he's truly stupid!
You are right though, all you have to do is type Tracy Dopko or Daventry Farms into ANY search engine and come up with pages and pages of info. regarding me but I've admitted that right form day one. I'm not stupid.
I have NO life. I do no on-line banking, shopping or otherwise. I have a complete firewall, my computer isn't on all day, etc. etc. Good luck to anyone that finds my social insurance number or birth date. Wanna know my show record, what I do for a living and lots and lots of pictures of me? Search the internet and have atter! Is it possible to find out my birth date? I'm sure that's possible. Would it be easier to just move onto the next Nigerian victim and make some easy money? Probably.
Would he be so mad in the end that he'd want to get back at me? Mad enough, yes. But, if he stops and thinks about it...he's wasted three weeks of his time trying to con a witty, semi-smart, business savy, obnoxious, cocky, know-it-all woman and, I think, I'm more trouble than I'm worth.
To be TOTALLY honest, I don't even know what my social insurance number is. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif My mom and I run our farm together. She's an account, does all our books, my taxes, etc. and she's the one with all the info. on me - social insurance number, etc. I don't write checks, I have ONE credit card that I use to buy groceries with and THAT'S IT. Seriously, no life. I'm sure it would be much easier to get info. on someone that is leaving regular paper trails everywhere but I just don't fit into that mold. Is it possible to find out everything with a little investigation? Of course. I don't deny that.
Heck, maybe my mom is actually Emmanuel!!
I do understand that you are concerned and I do thank you for caring. Really! I have not stepped into this lightly and I am aware that there are always concequences to our actions, of one form or another. It does help that my dad is a very successful criminal lawyer too though so I probably feel a bit safer knowing that and he's been on top of my emails from day one.
Personally, I would rather take that chance and still feel good at the end of the day then to allow these people to continue taking life savings away from innocent people. I've always been the one that goes out on a limb and always ends up in hot water defending others so I'm quite used to it.
I get over 1000 posts on our Scam pages every single day. And nearly every day, I get someone emailing me and thanking me for making them realize they were about to get scammed or making them more aware of what's actually happening on the internet. That means more to me than the worry of a scam response going bad. And yes, it's always in the back of my mind.
If I get screwed then poor me. I won't moan about it. But I'm willing to take that chance if it means one person doesn't have to worry about feeding their family the next day!
-----------------------------------------
Sorry, I don't mean to make this post sound harsh but I'm not stupid. I do know what I've gotten myself into and I do know there's always the possibility of it falling right down on my head. All I'm trying to say is...I know and it's my choice.
I've said my peace and apologize for my long, ranting post.

419 scammers are more interested in getting actual money than identity theft.
Identity theft is pretty easy, yes... but these guys are looking for people to just send them money. Even when they get real bank account information from real victims, they don't use it by depleting the accounts- they just string the victim along and get them to send money in "small" increments... to bribe officials or pay "un-anticipated" expenses.
419ers can be smart, but for the most part it's much easier for them to get money out of one person who really sends it than it is to get into identity theft.
I've been following these things for a while, and never heard of a 419er getting into it, even though many of them actually do manage to get SSNs and bank info from their victims.
So while it's true ID theft is easy and it happens (heck I found charges from a gambling website on my credit card and I'd never been to that site!) it's not the 419 game...

That's so true Velvet. I do totally agree with slc saying that you should never think you're smarter than someone else but these back and forth emails do make you wonder sometimes: http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
"You did send me a three digit area code along with a seven digit number but there are two area codes (+234 805 514 6890)?!? Which area code should I use? The 234 or the 805?"
"Of course, you must know how cold Canada is, especially this time of year. It will be so nice to lay on a beach and forget about the polar bears and igloos!"
"I will forward my work address to you as again, I DO NOT want Shmalphers to know!"
"Do you require them back? The reason I ask is because I absolutely fell in love with the paisley colored trunk and would greatly wish to keep it. Let me know if that is possible?"
" I tend to get a bit wild if I have any alcohol and, rest assured, I am planning on having my share of Mai-Tai's while relaxing on the beach! Who knows, love has sprung up in stranger situations."
Con The Con Man - Part 1
"Now, out of curiosity, did he visit Hinterland, South Africa or Hinterland, Australia? They're both such beautiful places for holiday travel. Oddly enough, we have a rock 'n roll band in Vancouver named Hinterland but I'm assuming he didn't go visit them?!? "
"My vet has also informed me that for travelling overseas, she will also need to be tested for BSE as we have had a recent outbreak in Canada. I assume your country has heard of our outbreak over the last two weeks as apparently, it has hit news rooms around the world. But I can assure you that our property has always been BSE free, to the best of my knowledge, and I'm sure she'll test fine."

Big Tom,
I hope you don't mind me calling you that? With your important position in the government and all, that name just kind of stuck in my head. It sounds so stoic.
I went back to Western Union to try this again. Hopefully, I have now wired all of the money, $10,000 CDN, to Mr. Nwosu Proper O care of Lagos-Nigeria. I unfortunately got stuck dealing with the same lady again at the Western Union as, apparently, everybody else is either off for the day or away on holidays. She assures me that the money will go through properly this time as she did not have the proper Money Transfer Control Number the first time as she is dyslexic. She had me check the numbers to make sure and they were right.
I did manage to send all of the money at once as, oh my God, it was so expensive to divide it up into three separate wires. The lady at the Western Union was so nice to deal with. Your advice of acting calm and to just be myself worked and everything went through fine!
I just CAN'T wait to go to Hawaii. I think I'm going to go car shopping tomorrow too!
Thank-you again!

slc, I can't speak for anyone else, but when I type in my name to Google, the only thing that comes up that pertains to me personally is when I graduated from High School 20 years+ years ago. I can type in my phone number and nothing comes up; same for my address.
When I do a people search on me, nothing comes up either, unless someone wants to pay money for the info. Even then the info isn't accurate.
I can do searches on my email addy's and nothing is revealled about me. So, unless someone is really careless about blabbing info on the internet, and adding info to web pages, someone has a bit of work to do to find anything out.

Expert Scam-the-scammers, HELP!
I just received a relay call from someone asking about the horse we had for sale. (Which one is what I what was thinking?)
My husband answered and was talking for a while before I caught on.
The question that caught my attention was
"What is the condition of the horse?" Ahh, a typical line from the emails.
I got the phone from hubby, and listened to one line before hanging up.
My question is, did I just charge myself a bundle of money via the phone? Never had a relay call before! This is pretty brazen, in my opinion. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

The people that have big bucks to give you, wouldn't give it to you anyways. The majority of wealthy people have money because they are savvy and smart with their money. That's why they have lots of it. I bet it's tough to find someone like that to fall for your scam(s). So, then you're actually targeting the people with little money. People who are desperate enough to believe in your dream and want to believe that the old saying just might be wrong, "Nothing is free!". These poor people are blindly handing over their money in hopes of that one big break and in the end, are literally left with nothing. God forbid if they should have a family to support in the wings. How DO you sleep at night?
Sweet dreams Emmanuel,
Tracy
P.S. I guess some things are free. Just look at all the entertainment, advertising for me, smiles and amusement you've provided for free!

Oh, Tracy, well done! Thanks so much for the entertainment. I'm so glad that you managed to string these babosos along as long as you did. Perhaps it saved one gullible person from getting screwed out of their money. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I hate to see the end of a relationship...I've never been good at "break-ups". I'm going to miss ol' Mule. What a wonderful fling you have had with him. Carry those memories with you until you find your next love...errr, ummm scam...
