HA. Nothing.

Off to work so this will be short.. will elaborate more later.

Still waiting for his broken lateral splint to heal. It looks really good, much smaller than it was 2.5 months ago. I technically could take him now to the horsepital in Ocala for a follow up xray but I dont want to get the go ahead that I can ride him now as Nov 2, I am going in for surgery and wont be able to ride for a few weeks. So that would KILL me. So I am going to take him after my surgery and hopefully get the all clear. He looks amazing out in the pasture. Hes also grown a TON over this summer so I think its a blessing in disguise that he has had since May off. Hes at least 16.3 but Im thinking more 17h and my other horsey friends think more like 17.1. I guess I need to get a stick....

Ill post some pics when I get home tonight.

Thanks for asking. Ill let Sexy Rexy know he was thought of!

Sexy Rexy is going to be devastated when he finds out that you haven't kept all his fans uptodate with weekly blog posts - even a horse on "sick leave" can still manage a weekly photo shoot & progress report!!!
I bet he sulks for weeks.

Best wishes & a speedy recovery for you - hope all is well :)

I have no doubt that when you both get back to work, it will all go fabulously: he's a talented boy - there just might be a bit of a transition time for the now 4 yr old Rex to accept the New Order :D

Hes also grown a TON over this summer
FP has also become about double the pony he was at 3 ... of course, that means that we are :uhoh:

YES - Saddle Hunting :sigh:

Thankfully we picked up a jump saddle from a friend to try & ended up buying that, so he could continue u/s.
Living in the back of beyond means
waiting
& waiting
& still waiting
for the saddle rep to actually show

Ahh see - I did the whole saddle thing right before he got hurt. I literally had 3 rides, 2 being test rides, in my new semi custom before he got hurt. So its just been hanging out! lol

So yes, waiting and waiting here too.

I took Rex down to have his follow up xrays on Aug 18. He has been healing from his broken splint since the day before Memorial Day and 4 wks post injury, I went to the clinic and that is when I actually found out the splint was broken (long story short but he was never lame and only appeared to have a cut/puncture that I had been treating as such per vet). We were told to wait 45 days and rexray. So we did. The break is 60-70% healed. There is a nice callus forming and it is not too big so its not rubbing the suspensory. Since I am in NO hurry to get him going back under saddle, we decided to wait another 2-3 months and then re xray and see where it is. There is no harm in waiting and there is a good chance it will completely heal on its own. Fingers crossed! Mid Nov is 3 months.

While waiting those 45 days since our first visit, however, Rex came in with effusion in the joint on the right knee. It really freaked me out as it looked like his hock did prior to OCD surgery. I did all the DMSO and what not that the vet suggested. When it didnt go down, he recommended xraying it when I brought him down for the splint. He said since knee OCD is so rare, there is a better chance he chipped something. Just sick to my stomach! But we took all the xrays and everything is PERFECT. So he likely knocked it or something but there is NOTHING wrong and he said not to worry at ALL about it. WHEW!

Lastly, I went ahead and got xrays of his front feet as it is time to put some shoes on esp as we are fighting a toe crack on the LF and need to open it up and cut it out the best we can. There is a tiny bit of seperation (~4mm) so not bad and it is also not white line. His soles are thin as well, which I knew, so I wanted a base line to start with. We are at 10mm. Vet would like at least 14. According to the xrays, his angles are spot on in regards to coffin bone and palmer angle, etc. He only needs minor adjustment on the lateral side of both fronts to even up the coffin bone angle (the lateral sides are 2 degrees higher). So much better results than I thought about that too.

So shoes for Rex along with more rest and growing. My vet was surprised at how much he had grown in just 50 days. So I guess its good we arent riding, etc. as he really is actively growing right now. Fingers crossed his splint heals and he doesnt need surgery and we will be back u/s in the late fall/early winter!

Oh lastly, his sarcoid had gotten bigger and very red and angry looking so after all of the "natural" attempts to get it to go away, I got the Xxterra and have been using that with GREAT success. Hope it works completely too.

Just a few pics of him standing around.. sorry they are boring!

At the clinic about to be sedated for xrays. I havent been able to step back and see him standing "at attention" for a while and was surprised at the height and neck he has. And he has like NO muscle right now too!

This is the first thread regarding Rex that I have read, so I don't know any of the back story.

However, He is Lovely!

Thanks.

I purchased Rex back in 2009 at 21 months old. I have been a pretty active poster with my mare, Layla, so I started posting updates of my on goings with Rex. Hes such a level headed guy and has been so easy to start - and is my first one to start from the ground up too. So I post updates and pics and vids and share our experiences and training etc. You can look at my old posts to see u/s pics and vids etc if you would like.
