My old one, a Passier with clear colored rectangular crystals, is coming apart so I need a new one for the next show season. I'm not crafty at all, so I don't want to make it myself. Wouldn't want to spend much over $125.

I don't want to go too blingy but it could be a bit blingier (is that a word?) than the old one.

My mare is a rangy chestnut, about 16.2 hands, with an unusual marking on her forehead, and two white hind stockings:

But, you don't have to be very "crafty" to make one if you buy a blank. All you have to do is buy some beads and string them (meaning good ones and some swarovski rondelles mixed in) and then stitch it down to the blank using the thread they send you and the holes in the blank.

Check out Jerry's Harness. He sells blanks--and blingy browbands. I prefer some color, so I like to do the bead thing and not just shiny stuff.

I'm not into too much sparkle, so I have one that is Red tiger eye alternating w/ mother of pearl and some gold beads for my Chestnut mare w/ WIDE blaze.
It was made by Jo McCracken, Mobile Horse Supply, I think only around $80. She does custom ones, I sent a picture of my horse's head and turned her loose. Love it.

If you have some idea what you want she will incorporate. Google her business and you will find contact info.

www.ebay.co.uk has many blingy browbands for VERY cheap. I think a waved one would look nice on your horse, maybe with clear or red crystals.

Wow, I love these! And they're in Canada! If I got light blue it would do for both my mare and gelding.

I have one from Simple Change (simplechangebrowbands.com). They can be a little difficult to catch up with but I love mine.

Not to hijack - but my blingy brow band fell apart and I can't find my original Passier brow band - does anyone sell just plain black replacement brow bands? I haven't seen them in dover or smart pak

I really like Crown Jewel Designs (http://www.crownjewelsdesign.com/browbands.php) -- she uses a lot of stones that are blingy withing being blinding.

They are a little over your price range but some @$140 and you might be able to work with her on a custom design that would hit your price range.

I was given one (http://halt-near-x.com/index.php/media/archive/ros-browband) as a gift, and her service was outstanding -- went above and beyond to make sure it arrived for my birthday.

I'm a big fan of my pink equine one, I wanted something pretty attention grabbing for a solid chestnut with out going over the top or blinding. So far everyone has loved it.

The picture is of a tan browband, but they do a great job on special orders ... that's who supplies browbands for Mighty Thoroughbred Clique ... they do black, and will use black thread any width leather and any length. The custom is a little more expensive ... I think I paid $15 each on my last order, which was years ago. It's very good quality cow leather, but not finished the way most of our english leather tack is.

I've owned browband's from both of these stores, and they've all been great! Beautiful workmanship, good quality leather, sturdy, and long lasting.

The Schumacher browband's from this store are beautiful too.

Here are some from Crown Jewels Design which I think would look good on your mare. I don't think they are in your price range, but I picked them out for the color combos I think your mare would look pretty in.

HPF Designs (txwarmbloods) makes some really nice browbands as well. http://www.txwarmbloods.com/store%20frset.htm

I got mine from this website. Here is the specific design I chose (although she has tons and is willing to customize). I always get tons of compliments at shows on this browband.

http://peopleonhorses.com/browbands.html seem to be well in your price range

If you like this style, these are inexpensive: http://www.etsy.com/shop/HighBrowEquine

I love http://www.crownjewelsdesign.com/, but think they are above your price point.

These are different (a bit more than I would want bling-wise, but interesting) http://www.tlcsaddlesoap.com/Custom-Browbands.html

Great prices here: http://www.stratonsporthorses.com/-beaded-browbands.html

I got one recently from Dana at Dana's Custom Products
http://www.tlcsaddlesoap.com/Custom-Browbands.html

She was excellent to work with, and answered all my questions. Once we settled on a design, I had my browband within a week.
I got a custom browband, bling spur straps and a stock pin all for $125. You can't beat that!

Thanks for the suggestions! What I'm wondering about the most is what colour/style to go for... I do like the brown/tawny coloured beads, which would go well on my grey (who has browny tints to his coat) as well.

I'm not crazy about green--I like it on me, but not for my horses. There's a lady at the barn who has her bay all in pink, so that's not going to happen. I like the blue, partly because it would work with my grey and partly because I read somewhere that if you are doing a painting a of chestnut, they have a hint of cerulean blue in their coat. So I am always looking for things in that colour. But I'm open to anything.

And thanks for sending photos of your horses with their brow bands... keep them coming if you have time. It's really fun to look at them.

I think the right reddish/brown bead would look fabulous on a chestnut. Airfern posted some links that would be good colors to consider IMO. I also think something like this shade (http://www.crownjewelsdesign.com/products/bb373_details.php) would be fantastic.

Any sort of bright blue stone/crystal would also look good.

For something a little different than the standard navy-on-chestnut, a sky blue? Like this shade (http://www.crownjewelsdesign.com/products/bb406_details.php). For crystal-based designs rather than stones, you're probably looking for ones that use aquamarines.

Any option is going to look great on a gray. I think something in blue (any shade) will pop more than something in brown, so then it's a question of how bold/subtle you want to be.

I second the recommendation on "Browbands with Bling"...
www.browbandswithbling.com
A custom browband for standard size is less than $100! All items are made by the owner herself. YOU choose how blingy you want to be - there are hundreds of colors and designs to choose from on the website. Not only does Katherine put out a great product she also donates ALOT of items to charitable equestrian causes and has sponsored both the Region 1 and 8 NAJYRC teams in the past along with supporting individual Jr/YRs....

Katherine will know exactly what colors will go best with your chestnut!

My chestnut has a gold swarovski crystal browband that looks great on him. I actually found it on Craigslist, so I don't know where it was originally purchased.

You know...I really appreciate those designers who are innovating vs. just copying others. This designer actually created something that others aren't making... Kudos

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I think I've settled on tawny reddish brownish coloured beads... just the right amount of bling and will look good on both horses as gelding already has a copperish coloured one that suits him.

Still in the generalities stage of what colour, what maker. Probably will be a Christmas gift to myself since my show season is over and doesn't start up again until next May. When I have it, will post it.

Cool. I'm curious because I recently bought myself a new brown dressage coat which I'm pairing with cream breeches. Although I love my blue browband (which went well with my navy coat), I'm leaning towards getting a browband with browns in it to match the new coat. I'm likely to go through HPF Designs again.
