View Full Version : save the steeplechase T-shirts (LINK TO ORDER ON PG 4!) (the shop was upgraded 11/7)

Oct. 25, 2004, 04:46 PM
alright guys, i've got 3 designs so far... please share your ideas on alterations, what you like, what you dislike, etc.

this one is sort of like a political cartoon... i had a bit of trouble figuring out a good witty line for the last block- any ideas are welcome. or if it seems a bit too contravercial... let me know that, too. at the bottom of the shirt i want to write something along the lines of "Do you want this to happen? Fight to keep the 3-day with steeplechase alive!"
it was illustrated by a friend of mine.

this one the coloring is distorted because i made it in power point and in order to save it to the point where i could make it a link it distorted itself- but it looks neat printed out. Picture was sent to me by e-mail, not sure witch BB member it is from, tho. make yourself known http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif and what do i have to do to make sure i can use the picture?

this one is also distorted for the same reason. I'd love to add real pictures to it, but no one sent me any others. also, the E got cut off on the "THE" during the re-saving, so just imagine it's there http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

questions? comments? opinions? thoughts? i'm open to anything. these are just "first drafts".

i want to put all these on the backs of the shirts. On the front of all of them i want to put something in the upper right hand corner that says something like "I support the classic 3-day"... or whatever idea i get that is best from you guys. I have a feeling they are all just going to be on white t-shirts since they are cheapest http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif unless there is a prevailing desire for a certain color.

at this point i'm still trying to find the best place to get them made, prices, etc. if anyone knows of a particularly good place, let me know http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif otherwise i'm going to stick with something local.

are there any ideas for other shirt designs? EventerAJ made one on the other thread that you can go look at here

let me know what you guys think and would actually buy. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I love the first and second ones! Ohh! Im so excited for them! I want to wear it everywhere!

Oct. 25, 2004, 05:16 PM
i love the second one! That picture is wonderful!

Magic Cabernet
Oct. 25, 2004, 05:18 PM
I absolutely love the second one. Be sure to let us know when they are available.

Oct. 25, 2004, 05:26 PM
I like the second one. I work in the huge local tack shop so I'd definately wear it to work.

Oct. 25, 2004, 05:58 PM
I love the second one too. Great job! You mentioned nobody else sent pictures...did you get the one I sent?

Oct. 25, 2004, 06:56 PM
Absolutely the second one.

Oct. 25, 2004, 08:21 PM
I like the second one the best too! You should play around with fonts some though. Try something like "baskerville" or a simple "ariel" font. They would make the photo stand out more which I think would get the message across even better.

Oct. 26, 2004, 05:20 AM
Here's a new t-shirt idea:

" om ined Tr ining" (above photo)
(steeplechase photo)
"Not quite the same without A, B, and C" (below photo)

What do you think?

Oct. 26, 2004, 05:25 AM
Unfortunately it isn't Combined Training anymore. It's Eventing which doesn't contain a, b, or c. Maybe this whole trend started when we changed the name.

Oct. 26, 2004, 05:35 AM
I like the second one too, but I would take out the word "the". My most favorite is the EVENTERS ALPHABET. I think a T-shirt needs to get its message out instantly-no time for reading and figuring stuff out. The cartoon is great but takes too much brain power for the casual passer-by to read and comprehend. I want SEVERAL eventers alphabet shirts!! THANKS for your efforts!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Oct. 26, 2004, 05:39 AM
I like the first one best....but I think we whoudl have something more "to the point " and concise like the second one. The only thing I would change on the second one is have an outline/cartoon chase picture instead of the true picture. Mike make it more gereralized.

Oct. 26, 2004, 06:09 AM
I like the 2nd one best of teh 3. But I really liked Jupes's design that Janet posted ... uh... somewhere. Maybe put the 2nd design on the back and Jupes's on the pocket area in front?

Oct. 26, 2004, 06:28 AM
I like the second one and the last one. Sign me up. I'll take two http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oct. 26, 2004, 06:34 AM

I emailed you a logo. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Lemme know if you don't get it.

Thanks for working on this!

Oct. 26, 2004, 06:36 AM
I vote for #2, and Eventers Alphabet.

I like using Jupe's logo on the front.

we'll take a couple of dozen - we're thinking we can be the "local distributer" for Area III YR gang.

Oct. 26, 2004, 06:38 AM
Love the second one, and I personally think the photo works great -- it's reality, and shows the pure joy in the horse's expression!

The first (cartoon) is very clever, but does take too long to comprehend for a T-Shirt. Could we pool some money and by ad space to get it printed in some of the big magazines???

Oct. 26, 2004, 07:02 AM
I love the idea! I think #2 is my favorite. Please let us know when we can get one!!!

Oct. 26, 2004, 08:40 AM

I like that idea!

Oct. 26, 2004, 09:14 AM
actually, why wouldn't one (or more) of our magazines pick this up as an "editorial cartoon"?

I would change the phrase from "government" to "governing body". More accurate, and gets closer to FEI without actually using the term.

Oct. 26, 2004, 09:23 AM
So where do we order them and I want all four. One for friday, saturday, competitors party, and sunday.

Oct. 26, 2004, 09:39 AM
I'm with Tecumsea! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oct. 26, 2004, 12:26 PM
Where can I get one???? I WANT one!!! I'm so bummed that if this goes through, as it seems it will, I will never get to do a steeplechase (unless I become a Steeplechase jockey..... but I think I'm a bit big for that!)

Oct. 26, 2004, 12:38 PM
bigdreamer, I'm sure you could also submit the cartoon to COTH for publication, whether or not it makes it onto a shirt.

Oct. 26, 2004, 12:47 PM
I really like EventerAJ's one. It tells people more.

Oct. 26, 2004, 02:38 PM
I too like the Eventer AJ one - these are all such good ideas though I think whatever is chosen will be a huge hit!

Oct. 26, 2004, 03:54 PM
I really like the the second one. AJ's is nice too.

Where and when can I get a couple?

Oct. 26, 2004, 03:56 PM
Hey - I'm the girl who did the cartoon.
bigdreamer - I like the second one, too, and I think I agree with those that said it was faster to read on a shirt...

But I love the idea of getting it into a mag!

Oct. 26, 2004, 04:27 PM
i like jupes logo as well- i think it would be perfect for the front pocket. or perhaps i could also get another shirt made up that has just that really big on the back. or front? any preference?
(for those that haven't seen it, i added it to my photo bucket here http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v400/eventingforlife/1Save3Day.jpg
for easy viewing by others- not cuz i'm stealing it from you, jupes!)

quote from nowoncourse
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>You should play around with fonts some though. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

i tried ariel, and it does make the picture stand out a bit more. I kept the "steeplechase" the same font though, i think having it written bigger and more impressive kind of implies that steeplechse is an impressive part of the 3-day. any one disagree? if more say so, i'll change it http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> I like the second one too, but I would take out the word "the". <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

i took out the "the" and i'm indifferent about how it looks, either way is fine with me. what does everyone think?

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> The first (cartoon) is very clever, but does take too long to comprehend for a T-Shirt. Could we pool some money and by ad space to get it printed in some of the big magazines??? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
agreed, and i was worried about that. i think having it in magazines would be awesome... how do we go about doing that??? anyone have connections?
what would be AWESOME is if we could get it on the cover of the COTH magazine where everyone gets to see it... how do we do that? i found the guidelines here (http://chronofhorse.com/index.php?cat=20308044046559) on the COTH web site, but if someones got a foot in the backdoor, that'd be cool...

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> I would change the phrase from "government" to "governing body". More accurate, and gets closer to FEI without actually using the term. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
done and done.

so it looks like a majority vote for the 2nd one. I'm still getting "quotes" on prices as of right now- the number of colors used makes a difference at some places. I think I may just get the 2nd one and EventerAJ's made in bulk, and if some people want the cartoon, i'll take orders for it and aim to get it into magazines. i think i'll skip the 3rd one since not many people mentioned it, and i think having pictures is better anyways.

vetrep- i did get your picture, and i like it a lot, i just am not sure where to use it since i had already made the one by the time i got yours. hmmm...
(i added to my photobucket for all to see http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v400/eventingforlife/1Benny.jpg )
any thoughts, guys? it really is an awesome picture, i would love if i could find a way to use it. My original plan was to get 4 made up, so if we have another good slogan to use I'll make it! maybe even a simple "i support the 3-day with steeplechase" would work. ideas? (i really love the picture and want to use it! maybe cuz i'm partial to grays, but still!)

keep ideas and thoughts coming!

Oct. 26, 2004, 04:31 PM
Here are the results of my household (and I quote):

1 Huh? - and they know the issue
2 ooo I like that one
3 that one's even better!
4 Now I REALLY like that one

So the vote of my house is for the very last one on the first post.

Oct. 26, 2004, 05:00 PM
Wow, they are all great. Thanks so much EventerAJ and bigdreamer!

My vote is for bigdreamer's 2nd one with Jupe's logo in the front.

Can we do sweatshirts and/or longsleeve t'shirts? With the weather change it would be great. Otherwise, it will be akin to long underwear for me for the winter.

Either way, this is very cool!!!!!

Oct. 26, 2004, 05:12 PM

Oct. 26, 2004, 06:11 PM
Dreamer- I love the Steeplechase one! And, well, I like mine too. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

Feel FREE to use better pics for the "Eventer's Alphabet." Those were the best ones I have on me at the moment. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif 'Course if you don't want the extra work (copyrights?) and y'all think those pics are ok, well that's fine with me!

BTW, did anyone read the article in Equestrian (USEF) magazine, regarding the Olympics short format and Rolex modified?? John Williams was NOT a fan of the short CCI. He said his horses had to be *just* as fit as for a real three-day, and it did take more out of them (Rolex). Interesting...

Oct. 26, 2004, 06:15 PM
I really like the second one and jupes' logo, but I LOVE the eventer's alphabet. I think it is catchy and better sums it up- it is the whole thing we want to preserve.
But frankly, I will get whichever one you make http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Kudos to you guys who did all the work putting these together. Awesome job.

Oct. 26, 2004, 06:24 PM
this is so cool, how can i get one? don't know if you're still looking for more pictures but go to www.jimwofford.com (http://www.jimwofford.com) if you want to see an incredible steeplechase picture (scroll all the way to the bottom of the page)

Oct. 26, 2004, 08:33 PM
I want one of each... for everyone a my barn!!!! Can we get them in time for Christmas? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Anything we can do to help?

Oct. 27, 2004, 03:46 AM
You should make the "Save the three day.. its as simple as...." one into stickers or something and sell em for like a dollar.

Oct. 27, 2004, 05:09 AM
Those are awesome shirts! God only knows if I'll ever actually get to do a CCI, but I'll buy one anyway! haha.

That pic of the Gray on steeplechase is really awesome. You mentioned another logan to use it with, and this crossed my mind yesterday. If nobody likes it, it certainly won't hurt my feelings. Just a random thought. You could even use the same front logo and then with the pic on the back put "it's all in the thrill of the 'chase" or something to that effect. It's a commonly used term for lots of things, so it may be cool to apply it here.

Just a thought. Ya'll are going great!!!

Oct. 27, 2004, 02:26 PM
hey guys-

i thought of another thing we could do...

anyone good with web pages?? can we make a petition that is titled "don't chase our dreams away!" where we can all post comments and what not and then send it to the FEI??? we can start a "save the steeplechase" web site...

I also thought i could use that slogan with vetreps picture- write "don't chase our dreams away" at the top and something else at the bottom along the lines of "don't get rid of the steeplechase!"

i will try to get revisions/final "drafts" of the shirts posted this weekend and then they can be ready for printing next week. still working on prices, tho.

I would love to start taking "orders" from you guys via e-mail (eventingforlife@yahoo.com) but i know i don't have the 4th one done yet... but if you want to send them to me anyways, go ahead. i'll go with the classic s, m, l, xl sizes.

those of you in charge of area banquets- when are they? and when would i have to ship them to you by?? i'm not sure if any of this will get done soon enough, if anything maybe you can print the designs and take orders for people there... let me know what i can do! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

erin- i hope i'm not violating the classified rule, but it's for a good cause!

Oct. 27, 2004, 02:37 PM
I'm decent with webpages... its not too difficult and would be willing to put one together.... I have only ever designed one from scratch and that is: www.geocities.com/granbyponyclub/ (http://www.geocities.com/granbyponyclub/)

I think the T-Shirts are ingenious.... maybe we could make sweatshirts too?

and a thought... maybe not a good one but a thought... where will the money from these shirts go? Maybe it gould get donated to the USEA to help KEEP the CCI alive... especially because one thing the claim is lack of money...

Oct. 27, 2004, 05:14 PM
hoodies and/or long sleeve shirts sound awesome... i'll look up prices. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oct. 27, 2004, 05:25 PM
Rather than a web page, why don't we set up a blog. Anyone can post. I can do it in a few minutes.

Okay. Done.

Point your browser to

www.savethechase.blogspot.com (http://www.savethechase.blogspot.com)

Double click on "comments" under the topic Opening Remarks.

Oct. 27, 2004, 06:20 PM
OK, but who is going to see the blog and/or the webpage? Who is going to be moved by the T-shirts, even though they're very cool? If you're going to be willing to spend $15 on a T-shirt, I'd humbly suggest you buy a book of stamps and WRITE LETTERS to the USEA, the FEI, and anyone else you can think of demonstrating your opinion LOUD AND CLEAR right up at the level where the decisions are made.

I'm all for grassroots stuff to rally the masses, but this kind of thing isn't going to get much attention from anyone but the "already converted".

Why not recruit a volunteer for every single Horse Trial in the USA next year and have that person get signatures on a petition supporting the CCI traditional format, which could be presented to the appropriate "powers that be" either at the annual meeting or (I'm a little fuzzy on bylaws) in whatever forum would be most likely to gain ATTENTION for the issue?

Are the USEA bylaws available online? Is there a means of forcing an "extraordinary meeting" or whatever it's called if sufficient members request or demand it by petition or other means? I realize this is an FEI issue, but surely the USEA has more of a voice with the FEI than your average eventer.

Oct. 27, 2004, 06:41 PM
Was nearly ROFLOL as I beleive our blogger is none other than a USEA Area Chair....Is this a plot?

Oct. 27, 2004, 06:47 PM
Hey, however the deed gets done! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Seriously, though, I am sort of jaded and curmudgeonly when it comes to "bake sale" kinds of political action...no offense intended at all and I will buy a T shirt gladly...and am more likely to "go for the jugular" politically, if you will, given half a chance. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif It takes a lot to make me write "letters to the editor" (I have done so only a very few times) but this topic will surely be one of them. I simply don't feel like I understand enough to write something intelligent and cogent. Yet. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Oct. 27, 2004, 11:48 PM
Those look awesome, can't wait to see the finished product. Great idea!

Oct. 28, 2004, 08:05 AM
How would Jupes feel if we made copies of her logo and stuck them on our trucks and trailers? It would be a start.
Can the Eventer's Alphabet have Vetrep's steeplechase picture on it? What a cool pic (hey, Vetrep!)
I want some! Either '3-day isn't a 3-day' OR AJ's Alphabet. You guys are so cool.

Oct. 28, 2004, 08:44 AM
Please correct if I'm wrong (and I'm sure someone will), but didn't we already respond to this survey question and an overwhelming majority voted for the long-format? So what we have is our membership organizations (USEA, USEF and FEI) knowledgeable of the desires of their members but failing to do anything about it. Sounds like government not representing their citizens. What happens then? Write letters reminding them of our requests/desires... then what, guess we vote with dollars/feet/etc.? Find another sport, promote CCNs, get a new National Coach???

No answers here, just some thinking out loud.

Oct. 28, 2004, 11:10 AM
DW- i know this isn't an earth shattering thing going on here, but hopefully it'll make at least a few more people realize that what's going on isn't just a dream... right now everything seems peachy unless you've directly experienced the change. somehow we have to make people realize what's going on here and how serious it actually is. When I contacted Kevin B. about this we figured spreading the word and trying to rally the troops is the best that a wee little person like me could probably do besides signing a petition...
on second thought, tho... should we start a "Save the steeplechase" group, and have a president, and members, and fund raisers, and demonstrate at shows, and become an active nagging group that the FEI wants to squish and will eventually hopefully cave into us??? IM ALL FOR IT. My mom has formed two non profit groups, i'm sure she would be willing to help me out with all the technical stuff. We can have area reps and have them be in charge of things... we can use the area directorys and mail out information and get people into it...

whose up for it?

Oct. 28, 2004, 11:18 AM
Count me in for about anything needed to save the traditional format. I only wish I was going to be at the national convention.

BTW, the Area 8 meeting is december 11th. Let me know if there's anything you need from me to get shirts and whatnot there.

Oct. 28, 2004, 11:33 AM
I'll be going to the MSCTDA meeting. I'll take some there to sell.

Oct. 28, 2004, 11:33 AM

Pol (and anyone), please feel free to use the logo I made in any way you see fit. I wish I knew an outlet to get stickers, buttons, etc. produced, but I don't really... However, I'm willing to assist anyone that can.

I can supply this logo in any format you or a printer needs... Jus' lemme know!

Oct. 28, 2004, 11:56 AM
I can't remember the name of the website, cafe press or something like that? Anyway, you can use your logo for t-shirts and all sorts of other things. They make you a little internet storefront and people can go and place orders. They tons of items to choose from as well. Does anyone know the name?
I know that was of no help without the name, but I thought someone might know what I"m talking about.

Oct. 28, 2004, 12:02 PM
bd -- the only thing I don't particularly care for is "save the steeplechase". It's more than just steeplechase we're trying to save, isn't it? I think it is anyway. Perhaps more of a "save the traditional 3-day"?

Oct. 28, 2004, 12:08 PM
RTR- i know what you are talking about... i have seen it before, it just slipped my mind. i'll see if i can hunt it down. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

TLE- well, i didn't mean call it that, i just meant it in the general sense to save the sport. i've been trying to come up with a snazzy acronym but it's proving to be quite difficult :-/

Oct. 28, 2004, 12:21 PM
oh, please don't take my random thought as criticism! Just a thought, honest! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oct. 28, 2004, 01:08 PM
Hey, Pol! Thanks! I love that pic, too. My (not so) little grey pony sure loved his steeplechase! We used to joke that when I'd lose his attention (happened more than I care to admit to, especially in his dressage training) he was off in "Bennyland", where there were steeplechase jumps as far as the eye could see! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Oct. 28, 2004, 01:24 PM
I second the ideas on them being hoodies... living in IL you need as much warmth as you can get! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think before we go out and make a clothing item.... we should have a contest of some sort where we get entries for phases A, B, C & D and we all vote on whichever one you like the best and the one with the most votes wins! (Of course you need permission to use the photo if it's copyrighted) If this sounds like a good idea to everyone I'm willing to get pictures sent to me and up them up on a webpage of some sort.

Oct. 28, 2004, 02:08 PM
tle, i wasn't offended http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif it's hard to offend me!! i was just explaining http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif though, i gotta admit, i think running around shouting "save the steeplechase! save the steeplechase!" would be quite an amusing site to see... i could plan it so our own little gnomes run by the dressage ring shouting it during those "good dressage riders" rides to help me out http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Oct. 28, 2004, 02:39 PM
Yes, Badger, you have outed me. As far as who will see the blog...

I will stand up and force the entire attendence at the annual meeting to listen to every single post if that is what I have to do. How's that? I would love to show them a ream of paper. In fact, I can start a thread that looks like a petition and any one who wants can sign on and sign the petition. Someone was putting the wording together on another thread. Does this sound like a good idea. We would have to make a point of helping some of our less than computer literate friends sign on.

The other way I think we make an impact is with our $$$$$. We have to start letting the "Team Level" riders know that we want them to support the long format and if they don't, we won't support them, either with our clinic dollars or our nice horses, etc.

In fact, I know one owner who was deeply disappointed not to enter the full format with her horse at Fair Hill, but it didn't serve the rider or the horse's hopes of making a team because of what CMP said.

Oct. 29, 2004, 05:37 AM
BD -

The area II annual meeting is on nov 20 I think.

Oct. 29, 2004, 06:06 AM
Area 1's meeting is November 13...Anybody going?

Oct. 30, 2004, 12:56 PM
BigDreamer -

Have you heard of this website:

You (or you and us) could start a free merchandise website there - send the logos in and set the price of t-shirt/sweatshirts/hats/buttons with the logo. Cafepress takes care of screening them as orders come in. The base price of a cotton t shirt is $8.99.

Check it out! It is pretty groovy. This would eliminate you or anybody else having to put any money upfront - no overhead.

What do you think? We would need to agree on a price here on the board. We could price them at the base price or add some profit - then need to decide where profit goes...

Oct. 31, 2004, 09:40 AM
Hey guys-

How does that sound??? using cafepress??? we would have to specifically order a bunch for the area banquets and what not, but then we could get them directly delivered to you guys instead of waiting to go through me. and then if we "sell out" we can direct people to the web site to order their own. or even if they change their mind, they aren't limited to being where the shirts are actually for sale to get one. we can also make bumper stickers here http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

let me know your thoughts on it all http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i'll get the final edited photos up no later than tomorrow evening, hopefully tonight. i ended up getting caught up with school work since thursday and haven't had a good chance to work on them- sorry for the delay!

Oct. 31, 2004, 11:30 AM
ok here is the link to the draft i made of vetreps picture

thoughts? should i split up the text so theres some on top and bottom? should i put different text on top/bottom? should i change the color? i think the color might be too light, but i thought it was neat that it almost matched the jacket in the photo so it kind of "went together". but should i make it darker? anything else?

another thing, just FYI- the 8.99 shirts don't allow prints on both front and back. but i can make up to 50 different products on here, so i can make a wide variety. i'll see what i can come up with.

Oct. 31, 2004, 11:52 AM
they look great!!! and you liked my idea for a slogan! cool. How do we order again???

Oct. 31, 2004, 12:39 PM
Way cool. The web site thing sounds just right too! You kids are awesome.
Has the Eventers' Alphabet gone by the wayside?
Thanks for doing this!

Oct. 31, 2004, 01:12 PM
Everything looks great! Thanks so much for all of your hard work.

Using Cafepress is a great idea. It sounds like you are making up a few different styles (including the "Eventer's Alphabet", I think) so rather than making a 2-sided shirt with Jupes' logo on the front, perhaps we just do a separate t-shirt with the logo on the back.

You mentioned that the $8.99 t-shirts don't include front and back screening...is there a slightly more expensive shirt that does? It would look cool and be more "informative" to have the logo on the front and the s'chase pic on the back!

Nov. 1, 2004, 05:03 AM
Hey bigdreamer -

It looks great! I do think that the font color maybe could be a little darker - maye dark green or black?

Nov. 1, 2004, 06:32 AM
The Cafepress solution looks terrific.

Since this is more of a "get the word out" than fundraising campaign, I would suggest that we add only minimal charge to the base - maybe $1.00 per shirt.

Bulk orders (15 or more of same item) get a 35% discount, and this can be useful to offset the upfront risk for those of us willing to order in bulk and handle local marketing (area meetings, young rider groups, etc). I'm sure most of us will voluntarily "invest" proceeds above cost to the cause anyway.

Looks like we are arranging a multi-faceted campaign:

1) marketing materials like t-shirts, buttons, magnets

2) blog comments

3) petition

4) vocal presence at national and area meetings.

5) information giving/support gathering at events

6) lobbying - I would bet that we could cover most of the USEA Board of Governers with personal contacts, if we compared notes.

For example, there are at least 3 people on this list that I could speak with personally. How about the rest of us?

I think using the online system is a great idea.

However, I still don't like over-emphasizing the steeplechase specifically. It's the WHOLE change that I don't like -- steeplechase, phase C, the vet box... I liked the idea of the "A,B,C,D"... which is why I liked Jupes' logo so much. What happened to that idea? Maybe it's just too early on a monday morning (after a long event weekend), but I'm confused by what we're actually setting up for printing... Jupes' logo, shirt #2 or something totally different??

Help!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Nov. 1, 2004, 02:52 PM
tle -

it's Monday afternoon and I am still confused.... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I like the steeplechase shirt but really like the ABCD shirt and shirt #2 - can we get those too?

Nov. 1, 2004, 03:14 PM
Me too, A,B,C,D or shirt #2...

Nov. 1, 2004, 06:25 PM
alrighty guys,

I'll just go ahead and use those two different styles- eventerAJ's and #2. Due to the limited number of options you have on the site (you can only use each style once) I'll just stick with the favorite two. Perhaps I'll add the other ones on other styles, but those 2 will be my main focus. I'll set up the shop tomorrow since I have 2 papers to work on that are due thursday and I want to get the bulk of finished tonight.

I understand what you mean TLE, and it makes sense... if we come up with anymore ideas it's not like we can't make up more shirts! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif This website is VERY convenient!

eventerAJ- just to double check, are any of those pics copyrighted? or am I free to put them on the shirts?

Nov. 2, 2004, 02:56 AM
bigdreamer -

thanks so much for everything you are doing!

i can't wait to order the t-shirt!

are you going to do the sweatshirt option too?

Nov. 2, 2004, 02:59 AM
Is there an online petition anywhere? Would be great if we could get it up at least before thanksgiving so it could get signed by the national meeting.

Nov. 2, 2004, 03:26 PM
FYI - the cafepress thing works out well - they also do mugs, hats and tote bags or something if I'm not mistaken.

I have some stuff from the "Childhood Goat Trauma Foundation" I got through cafepress.

I didn't read all the posts - will y'all be giving us a link or something so we can order?

Nov. 2, 2004, 04:55 PM

Nope, not copyrighted! I took them all myself , (err, well, my family did) of me and my horses (well all but one, but it doesn't matter).

However, I'm not sure how the A&C pics will appear when blown up on a t-shirt. I took them off a video camera, and the quality isn't great. They look fine when small, but may get blurry when bigger. Those are the only "appropriate" trot pics I have (in a vest, xc setting).

Thanks for setting this up BD!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif You're the best!

Nov. 2, 2004, 07:11 PM

alright guys. I went "item happy" and made almost all the various items they had. Because i only did a basic shop I am not able to use each type of clothing more than once. If you would really like, I can open another one and switch things around. I stuck to the main 2 designs- though I did make 2 (i think) of vet reps picture.

All shirts have the small logo on the pocket in front (except the black sleeved one it is in the middle). The colored shirts I only put the big version of the jupes logo on the back since the other pictures looked odd with the colors.

i only added $1 to each clothing item, and i think 50 cents to magnets and pins, but most everything else i left at base price figuring not many people would buy them anyways, i was, again, just going item happy http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

let me know what you guys think!

any other items I should make? there are some left... too bad there isn't a circular sticker, only an oval one- but i figure you can always cut the oval one http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nov. 2, 2004, 07:32 PM
Wow BD, everything looks great!! Thanks for all your hard work! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nov. 2, 2004, 07:34 PM
thanks AJ

i wonder... will anyone buy the clock? http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Nov. 2, 2004, 07:35 PM
Very cool! Thanks Bigdreamer and all others who contributed.

Nov. 2, 2004, 07:46 PM
Holy smokes, that stuff looks GREAT!! Christmas is coming!
Thank you so much.http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nov. 2, 2004, 08:00 PM
WOW... I am amazed, and I reeaally want to have a sweatshirt with the circular logo on it. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I would probablt boy a couple for X-mas presets for trainer and other eventers at the barn http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Nov. 2, 2004, 08:46 PM

I want one of each http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Nov. 2, 2004, 09:12 PM
should i make the hooded sweatshirt with a big logo on the back instead of the picture???

You order directly from the web site http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nov. 2, 2004, 10:04 PM
This is amaizing! Thanks BigDreamer! I think you should make a sweatshirt with the circle logo on the back...and maybe not white considering this is for horse people and white gets soo dirty.

This is awesome! How do I sign up! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Nov. 2, 2004, 10:38 PM
just order right off the web site! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i have no choice for sweater color http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif but i think i will go change the hoodie to the big logo on the back.

Nov. 3, 2004, 05:23 AM
Awesome!!! I'm going to buy the long-sleeved T.

Thanks so much bigdreamer!

Nov. 3, 2004, 05:44 AM
The cafepress link is now on it's way around the country - I forwarded it to everyone I know.

This was a lot of work - kudos to you!

Save the 3-Day!

Nov. 3, 2004, 06:39 AM
Wow- they looks great
Thank you BD for stepping up and putting it all together (with help of course http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)
Nice job!

Nov. 3, 2004, 07:23 AM

Why can't I find this stuff on the cafe press website? ...and why is it that I have no problem finding the Eventing thong (?!) Oh brother!

I'm so anxious. Can someone post a direct to "our" store? Thanks!!!

Nov. 3, 2004, 07:36 AM
THIS IS SO COOL! Thanks so much for all of your hard work. I'm buying a bunch, and forwarding the link to everyone I know.

Nov. 3, 2004, 07:46 AM
Jupes- the link was given on pg 4 but here it is again...

Nov. 3, 2004, 07:56 AM
Thank you!

How about a big "duh" for me? I passed right over it.

Thank you BD for pulling everything together!

Nov. 3, 2004, 08:09 AM
Everything looks AWESOME! Thanks BD!

I would love to have a t-shirt with the gray steeplechase pic and "it's all in the thrill of the chase" slogan. I see sweatshirt (i think) and one other kind of shirt with that. Is there a t-shirt like that that I skipped over? If not it's cool. You've worked really hard on this stuff. I'm going to pick my favs and buy a few.

Nov. 3, 2004, 08:35 AM
Thanks so much, ordered the sweatshirt today!!!!

Nov. 3, 2004, 08:47 AM
These are really cool-

How long will they be for sale?

I want to but a couple things..... but being a poor horse parent I have to wait till pay day.....

Nov. 3, 2004, 10:03 AM
Thanks!!!! I am defintely ordering. Great Job!

Nov. 3, 2004, 11:19 AM
as far as i'm concerned, they'll be for sale til they make the 3-day right again.
i wish things were cheaper, but for conveniance sake, the web site works really well. i think right now the hoodie is on sale, $2 off the regular price (C/O the website, not me!).

foxy- i went and changed one of the t-shirts to that option. I realized I had 2 t-shirts (one white, one ash grey) that were both the option #2, so i changed the ash grey one to the one you wanted. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nov. 3, 2004, 11:27 AM
Awesome!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Bigdreamer - thank you so much for taking the time to organize all this! I'm going to order a sweatshirt tonight!

Nov. 3, 2004, 01:30 PM
Holy smokes, it is all together too easy to shop at CafePress! AND, they give you a $5.00 coupon for your next purchase AND they let you put in email addresses of your 5 best eventing friends and THEY get $5.00 coupons! I just bought a whole lot of stuff. Thank you BD...Shall we all wear the pins on our saddle pads?

Nov. 3, 2004, 03:39 PM
Holy smokes there went 120 dollars real quick. But that was christmas shopping. Money well spent for our sport.

Nov. 3, 2004, 04:19 PM
They look great! Nice work, BD! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Got me a messenger bag (I do NOT need another bag, but I am a junkie...) http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/uhoh.gif and some stuff for the silent auction at the TEAM banquet. And a sticker for the truck and trailer...hope they're weatherproof! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Nov. 3, 2004, 04:26 PM
wow guys,

29 items sold so far- not bad for just opening last night around 10!

and another thing... I was contacted by the COTH staff, who informed me they read the BB (HI!) and want to write an article about all this in the "in the country" portion. Can I have the names of all the people that donated photos? Jupes, vetrep, AJ, etc.? Just in case credit needs to be given where credit is due! Anything else I need to add????

For the area banquets-
If you want me to order stuff in bulk (15+) for events I get a big discount since I created the store- I can have it sent to you guys to sell there. It says it takes 1-3 weeks for delivery, so plan accordingly. If you mark it up there and get profit, we could donate some of it to YR's or something.... Let me know!

Nov. 3, 2004, 04:32 PM
Good on you! I'd suggest before submitting something for printing in the Chronicle, though, that there be a definite plan for where the profits will go, even if it's to put it in a fund for donation to a particular CCI. (long format, of course!) http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif If you have a definite plan, you might encourage more out-and-out donations. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

OR I might suggest taking the profits and using them to put a full-page ad in one of next year's editions of the Omnibus and/or "Eventing" magazine encouraging more support for this agenda.

Nov. 3, 2004, 04:34 PM
Yay Laura! I am so proud an dexcited for you! Genius girl http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Are you going to the TEAM banquet?

Nov. 3, 2004, 04:54 PM
I own a southeast regional horse publication, www.horse-exchange.com (http://www.horse-exchange.com). We currently reach 15,000 print readers and over 55,000 online readers each month, and those numbers are increasing. If I have some extra space in my next issue (December...it is likely that I will have an extra 1/4 page or something...the sold space never works out "perfectly"), I'd be glad to run a a "Save the Steeplechase" ad with the link to the online store, etc for free. Whoever has the logos and information just email me at kelly@horse-exchange.com and I'll get it in there. Because maybe one day I'll make it to a 3-day, and by golly, I want to run the full format!

Just let me know what I can do to help. I can print whatever you guys want me to print!

Nov. 3, 2004, 04:55 PM
DW- It says the stickers are weather proof! so your safe there! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hmmm... Ideas for where to donate profits...

1. For future magazine/omnibus ad's to support the cause

2. To donate to a future long format event that is still TBD.

3.... ?

any other ideas that would "help the cause"?
Should I use the profits to upgrade the cafepress shop so that I can make the site better?

Nov. 3, 2004, 05:32 PM
Aw, thanks BigDreamer for adding that t-shirt. You have worked so hard on all of this stuff. I was certainly not complaining about the selection! We SO appreciate you!

As a lower level competitor just hoping to get through Training Level alive this coming season, I (like many others on here), will not directly benefit from the format run in CCI's, but maybe, just maybe, one day I'll qualify for a CCI, and like was said before, I sure as Heck wanna run the full format!!!

Nov. 3, 2004, 06:34 PM

Nov. 3, 2004, 06:41 PM
I just drafted a (fairly lengthy) email to send out to non-COTH BB'ers who would likely support the cause. It gives a bit of background about the changes in the sport, includes a link to Denny's article, outlines our grass-roots effort, mentions potential "other" support like letters and petitions, and (of course) includes a link to our cafepress store.

If anyone would like a copy of it to distribute to your friends/supporters via email, just PT me and I'll forward it to you.

Nov. 4, 2004, 06:20 AM
Have to wait til payday to order my stuff. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

flypony.. that's wonderful! I say we go for it!! Thank you -- but I still vote for "Save the Traditional 3-day format" instead of just "Save the Steeplechase"... but ya'll have heard me say that before. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

BD... I would love to get some stuff for the Area VIII meeting (December 11th). PT or email me what I need to do.

VetRep... would love to see what you have written. Perhaps I could forward it for our local newsletter?

Nov. 4, 2004, 06:29 AM
Our Area III webmaster has confirmed that a short article about our effort and links to the petition and merchandise website will be included in the Area III website shortly.

Nov. 4, 2004, 06:54 AM
Just put my order in and want to know how else I can help.

You know, I live on the border of three areas and have never officially participated in area happenings, but now I think I should. Do I have to live in an area to be involved there? I live in TN/GA/FL, but usually event in either KY or NC, since those are closer.

Nov. 4, 2004, 07:29 AM
OK, due to popular demand, here is the letter I drafted. I wrote it to send via email to other horse-people, who are not necessarily event-people (hence the description/length/etc.)

Feel free to make any adjustments necessary to send it out yourself, to post it in a local tack store, or to submit it to a newsletter. Please let me know if you see anything that needs adjusting, as I will be distributing it shortly. Also, I just added the link to the new petition. Thanks!

As many of you know, the sport of Three-Day Eventing is changing before our eyes. In a nutshell, the changes were originally presented as a win-win: a) shortening Phase A (Roads & Tracks), eliminating Phases B (Steeplechase) and C (second Roads & Tracks), and making Phase D (Cross-Country) longer would mean less wear and tear on the horses; and b) increasing the difficulty of Dressage and Show Jumping would equalize the importance of the three phases, making Speed & Endurance/Cross-Country less of a deciding factor; all so that c) much less land/time/manpower/money would be required to run a Three-Day, increasing the chance of the Three-Day Event's inclusion in future Olympic Games. Denny Emerson wrote a poignant article about this in the "Between Rounds" column of The Chronicle of the Horse recently. Please read it, as it just about says it all. Here is a link to the article: http://www.chronofhorse.com/Issues/102204/047.pdf.

One thing that the article doesn't really go into, that I think deserves a mention, is that after careful veterinary observation at short-format events in the past year, many horses are coming in off of short-format cross-country in worse shape than after a full long-format speed & endurance! I don't want to get into the entire debate surrounding short- vs. long-format eventing here. The bottom line is that the changes are not for the better, and any of us who aspire to ever (or ever again) compete in a long-format Three-Day Event fear that time is running out.

Part of the problem is that the members of our sport with the greatest voice (well-known, upper-level riders) have been hesitant to protest, for fear of upsetting the "powers that be", and potentially jeopardizing their chances of making future teams. Denny's article inspired a group of us (less visible eventers) to take action. We have varying degrees of experience, and do not aspire to earn a Team slot anytime in the near future (if at all!) We figured out a good way to start, a grass roots "Save The Three-Day Event" campaign. We created clothing, stickers, and other gear with a cool logo that reads, "Save The Three-Day, It's as simple as A, B, C, D". The clothing has the logo in front, and one of three designs on the back. The designs look great--one is a photo of Phase B (steeplechase) that reads "A 3-Day just isn't a 3-Day without Steeplechase", another is a photo of Phase B that reads "It's all in the thrill of the 'chase", and the last one is the "Eventer's Alphabet", with photos of Phases A, B, C, and D.

Right now this is more of a "get the word out" than a fundraising campaign, to keep costs low for supporters. We added only $1 to the base price of the clothing items, and $.50 to the base price of the stickers and other gear. The profits will be donated to one of the long-format CCIs still on the calendar, and/or (depending on how much we raise) used for advertising in the USEA Omnibus and "Eventing" magazine to further support the agenda.

We are also working on a letter to the USEA requesting a) the FEI's "official" stance on the reasons for the short format change, b) any statistics that were used to support the change, c) the USEA's "official" stance on the short format, and d) what sort of studies are going on to see if this format actually will work out. There is also a petition supporting traditional CCI format going around in time for the upcoming USEA Annual Meeting in San Francisco. If you’d like to sign it, go to: http://www.petitiononline.com/ABCDCCI/petition.html

Please visit our online store, and show your support of long-format eventing! Here's the link: http://www.cafepress.com/eventingforlife

Thank you!

Nov. 4, 2004, 07:40 AM
OK, "Jupes" is actually Mary Lynn Kuh, and I'm from Area IV.

I like the idea of using any money we make on this campaign to buy ads in eventing publications (perhaps using some of the design ideas that didn't make it onto the shirts). Putting money towards a three-day is also a good idea.

What about sponsoring an award?

What about other sponsorships?

I'm just brainstorming... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nov. 4, 2004, 07:52 AM
Can we address a few questions?

By purchasing the apparel, what exactly am I supporting?

How will purchasing these products help support the cause?

What percentage of the money will actually go towards the cause?

Things are tight for me, and I know they are for others as well. I just want to know where my hard earned money will be going when I buy some of these great tee shirts.

Nov. 4, 2004, 07:58 AM
All I can say is WOW, I am in awe of the work done and all those that have put so much time and effort into it. I will definitely be buying lots of stuff and already signed the petition.

Just wanted to say thanks and will be hanging VetRep's letter in my barn for all to see.

Nov. 4, 2004, 08:35 AM
I think the proceeds should go to either supporting a full format (talk about putting your money where your mouth is!!) or to full page publications to raise awareness. Something that continues to promote the full length format.

Haven't a couple of full length formats been cut in the past couple months due to cost issues - what if the proceeds could go to subsidize those events. Or have it where if any event is hosting a full length that they get $x amount of dollars - maybe to feed the extra volunteers (or to pay the 'volunteers').

Nov. 4, 2004, 09:28 AM
bigdreamer - I'm thinking about the clock http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'm forwarding the email around, and I'll try and make some time to see what can be done to raise awareness on this side of the border.

Nov. 4, 2004, 10:06 AM
You are supporting the long format 3-day and saying that you want to keep the long format. Hopefully the merchandise will spark something in everyone to start speaking out and DOING something about the changes being made in our sport. Mark up is minimal- no more than $1 on any given item, and that is just on the clothes. I think pins are 50 cents, the rest are at base price. It's more of a wear the shirts and get people thinking and talking about everything campaigne- i'd rather keep prices low and have more people buy. The (probably minimal) money earned will go towards putting ads out to raise more awareness, and to do other stuff we haven't quite figured out yet- potentially supporting a particular 3-day, awards, etc., it's still kind of up in the air.

TLE- your PT will be written shortly

flypony- I'll e-mail you with three different pics i think would be best for a magazine including the regular "logo" since it looks pretty professional, the "eventers alphabet", and then the "political cartoon" that was created but got passed on for the shirts since it was a bit too complicated to read for a shirt. Pick whichever you think fits best http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

just a note on the profit to all- there is a 45 day "lag time" to account for returns/exchanges, and the *30 day money back guarantee* (so if you don't like it, you can send it back, but i hope you do like it!) so we won't get to see that profit mid december, but it tells me how much i should have, so i have no problem using my own money for advertisements, etc. until the check comes from cafepress. just so everyone knows http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

and to everyone that has said thank you- YOUR WELCOME!!! and i **thank all of you** for showing interest in this and actually motivating me to do it! It is really cool to see it all coming together, and i can't beleive we all did this! I think we all deserve a big pat on the back and an extra carrot with dinner tonight http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Nov. 4, 2004, 10:47 AM
flypony- I e-mailed you the pictures, but got an auto response that said you won't see my message? Should I try a different e-mail? Or was the auto response lying? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif let me know!

Nov. 4, 2004, 12:58 PM
Oooooo BD I just LOVE all of it. Hate to be a pain, but I want something I can wear RIGHT NOW and I really love the ABCD logo...is there a possibility for a long-sleeved tee with that on the back? Need some for Christmas presents, too. If it's a no-go I understand...I'll just buy four clocks! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Nov. 4, 2004, 01:16 PM
Wow. I'm impressed with all this!
It sounds as though we will be getting some press attention, and I would expect sales to go up as that happens.

Perhaps the best thing to do is to create an actual (virtual!) organization to serve as a structure for funds and decisions on spending funds. Right now it's clearly running on good will and donated time and resources, which is great -- but what if it totally takes off and does in fact start generating some money? It might be useful to have a way of making this more formal to be prepared for that...

but I don't want to bog this down and make it something that has its own bylaws, for goodness sakes!
Does anyone have a model for how we could do this?

Nov. 5, 2004, 04:57 PM
One request if I may...? Pretty Please? does The white T-shirt have the LOGO on the front (save the three day)? It looked like it was and I was really wanting one with the big logo on the back and the small logo on the front. Just ignore this if It already is on the back. I really like how the green and yellow shirts were designed and just wanted a white or grey one

By the way...I LOVE THE SHIRTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I can't wait to order the hoodie with (save the three day ...its as easy as A B C D)

Nov. 5, 2004, 06:35 PM
They said my order shipped today, yay!

I'm telling you I could REALLY get hooked on Cafe Press! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/uhoh.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Nov. 5, 2004, 11:25 PM
the "value" shirt that is 8.99 only has it on the front. i went through and added discriptions about them to say what was on front and what was on back. The rest have the small logo on front and the picture shown on back.

3dazey- as far as long sleeve shirts go, i can only use the plain white sleeve option once. The ones with the colored sleeves have not been ordered yet... i could change the picture on the back from the grey horse to that logo? would that work? the long sleeved one with the #2 on it is a bit popular, so i'm not too eager to switch it.

Maybe I should upgrade the shop so that i can make "better" items... i'll see about it this weekend. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nov. 6, 2004, 02:49 AM
WOW BD I AM really impressed! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I will for sure get a shirt. I am curious however, What was the initial startup for doing the items, You must have had to pay Cafepress something.. How did that all work?? I hope you are not out any money, and if you are we should all donate into whatever the startup cost was! You have done a marvelous job, as have all the others, ideas pictures Logo etc. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Nov. 6, 2004, 03:08 AM
Very cool t-shirts! Hope to order one this weekend!

Nov. 6, 2004, 07:58 AM
sannois- the basic shop is free! Which is why I can't make quite all the items I want to. To upgrade and make anything you want, a years worth is (i think) just under $60, so about $5/month... I'm thinking of upgrading so I can make what i want. I'm just waiting until I get my pay check from working this past thurs/fri... But if anyone wanted to pitch in, that'd be cool too... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. I don't expect anyone to, though. I'd just be happy because maybe then I could switch the clock for something a bit more practical http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif as cool as the clock is and all... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Nov. 6, 2004, 11:52 AM
OBOYOBOYOBOYOBOYOBOYOBOY! I just got an email from Cafe Press saying they had shipped my stuff!!! I can't wait! BD, you are quite amazing.
Don't you guys think we'd all look cool with the A,B,C,D pin on our XC saddle pads?

Nov. 7, 2004, 05:08 AM
wow, bigdreamer I am so impressed! what you have done in such a short time is amazing.
backstage, you are much more computer literate than I am..
I started a thread on EMG www.equiman.com (http://www.equiman.com) on the eventing forum, but I don't know how to do links.. can you or someone else go to that BB and link to denny's article, vetrep's letter, and to this thread?
Canadians what else can we do?

Nov. 7, 2004, 07:29 AM
How long is it all going to be on Cafe Press?!

I'm a bit low on money and so I was planning on waiting until after x-mas when the relatives help me out! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Will it still be there?!

Nov. 7, 2004, 12:19 PM
****I'm upgrading to a premium shop****
I will be making more items with this. It should be done by this evening (i hope!). To those who have already ordered, I beleive you can exchange items if you decide you want something else instead. Sorry I didn't do this in the beginning, i probably should have, but i didn't realize how many people would actually order, and I think a wider selection of items will promote even more sales.

3dazee- I will be making a long shirt with that picture on it.

any other requests for specific items??

The shop will be up for a good long time, i'm sure http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It shouldn't be a problem if you wait until after x-mas. Not unless the FEI decides to keep the long format forever and then we won't really need them, but i'm not so sure that'll happen between now and x-mas, unfortunatly.

Nov. 7, 2004, 01:19 PM
Oh BD you are too much. How can we chip in to cover the cost of this for a year? No way you need to do this all by yourself!!!

I'm gonna get ALOT of Christmas shopping done real quick!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Nov. 7, 2004, 01:25 PM
Good grief!!! Cool new stuff is popping up over there even as we speak...go BD! Now available ~ greeting cards!!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

Nov. 7, 2004, 02:04 PM
Pol- did you order anything for MEEEEEEE? http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

Nov. 7, 2004, 02:17 PM
3dazey- i accidently did the greeting cards, and so i deleted it... unless you guys really want some??? for Christmas maybe???

ths cost of the shop is $5/month, and it is taken out of your profit unless you don't make that much- which we have definatly made! It shouldn't be a problem for me to cover $5/ month anyways, so it's no biggy, don't worry about it!

I think i'm done editing what i thought I should make... so any requests???

Nov. 9, 2004, 07:37 AM
Hey guys-

we've sold $1000+ worth of merchandise. It's only about $65 profit, but hey, it's better than nothing. I'd rather keep prices low so that more people buy... Do you all agree with that, or should I maybe bump prices up a $1 or so?

when you guys start getting your stuff in the mail, let me know what it looks like! and/if there are any issues with the merchandise that need attention.

keep spreading word about the site, and that it's been updated with more goodies to buy! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nov. 9, 2004, 10:29 AM
Hey bigdreamer... I would love to buy some stuff to take to the Area II Meeting to sell(November 20th) but is there enough time for me to get it and receive by the 19th?

Also, did you mention something about ordering in bulk?

I have also posted the merchandise link, the petition link, the link to Denny's article, and some other stuff to the Area II Adult Rider chat list. Hopefully that will generate some more interest as well.

Nov. 9, 2004, 10:54 AM

I'm with you to raise it up another $1! I think that's a good idea, so then there's more profit. But we should do what everyone agrees too.

Nov. 9, 2004, 11:55 AM
it says bulk orders take from 1-3 weeks, so i don't know if it would make it in time http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif. Maybe you could set up a table if they didn't come in time and take orders, and then we could still order in bulk. Then whatever doesn't sell, use a bit of profit to send back to me and i'll figure out where to send it next. But then we'd have to figure out a way to get the items to them without spending a ton on shipping unless we added that into the price. ordering in bulk makes the items between $3-4 cheaper, so maybe it wouldn't be too big a deal... hmmm... Or even just to pass out fliars with the web site on it... or have fliars at a table and also a petition there for people to sign, or... well, the possibilites are endless!!

I think i'm gunna go make up some fliars that will be printable for anyone and everyone to print out and bring with them to area meetings...

goody- i'll assume you mixed up s/n's. Part of me wants to raise it, part of me wants to keep it as cheap as possible... we'll wait for a general consensus, thanks for your input!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> it says bulk orders take from 1-3 weeks, so i don't know if it would make it in time <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Okay, maybe I'll just order a selection on faith that people will buy, and pass out flyers... Anything to help!

I've asked the Area II newsletter editor to put a link in the new issue that is going to press momentarily.

Nov. 9, 2004, 01:50 PM
When you set up the Cafe Press... what is a "valid e-mail"? do I have to put in my e-mail addy? because then they ask for a password

i think we should make up a t-shirt with this quote on it:
"Event parties are all about adrenaline release, beer, loud music, and unacceptable behavior. Dancing on the table is strictly OK, as is climbing up the tent pole."
- Denny Emerson
and at the bottom write- do you REALLY want to rid of this sport??? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

we've reached $1500 sold, and $100 in profit http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

NO THANKS to linking overuse of alcohol with our sport!!! We're trying to appeal to the grass roots, remember? Parents with KIDS? Not the type of image we want to portray, IMO.

Nov. 15, 2004, 04:39 PM
I don't think we should raise the prices. Hopefully with the lower prices, more people will buy. As we would be raising the prices to buy advertising - I think the shirts will be seen by more people than the ads, IMO. So hopefully by keeping the prices low, we will be 'selling' more advertising! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Nov. 15, 2004, 06:09 PM
I have to agree. We WANT word of mouth. Paid advertising is great, but I think the sales are doing wonderful in their own right. If we don't get enough $$ for the full page ad, I'd rather see a splashy 1/2 page than raise the prices.

Nov. 15, 2004, 06:48 PM
DW- i was just kidding http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

i'm also for keeping the prices a little bit lower. i think we'll be relying more on donations, etc. than an extra $1 here and there.

oh, and i made the bumper sticker with the web site http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nov. 15, 2004, 09:00 PM
