View Full Version : Ever tarped an outdoor ring when expecting really bad rain?

Would this be a stupid idea?

I don't know what NJ can expect of Irene, but I do know when we get seriously bad rains for hours on end, the rubber in my outdoor tends to float on top and then all swims to the one corner. Hugely annoying when I than have to re-distribute it all.

So today I was just thinking what would happen if I put a tarp over the ring. Not quite sure how to secure it in high winds however.

I found these 100x100 tarps online.

Anyone ever tried this.
Any thought if this might work?

Yes I have actually done this. Not only is it annoying but in the chance it doesn't hold your horses will either love it or run around and play with it.

Well, they tarp the entire baseball infield if it rains, so I don't see why you couldn't do the same to a ring.

We infact managed to get ahold of a baseball cover one year when the local team was replacing theirs. We put it on a couple of times-pain to get on and bigger pain to get off-it was really obvious where the low points were-ie ponds of water that had to be moved before you could move the tarp. However, to preserve rubber-it might be worth trying.
