My friend received this photo as a gift and would like to identify the horse and jockey. All he knows is it is from the Kentucky Derby. He does not the year or even if the horse won - not much to go on! Any guesses??

I have sent the link to my friend Brian Zipse who is an all out expert on these things.

Hopefully he can help.

Going by the age of the photo, it's either Laffit Pincay or Angel Cordero.

A little down time here at the office has allowed me to look up the histories at kentuckyderby.com. In order of Year-Horse-Owner, here's what I came up with for histories of Laffit Pincay's mounts:

1971 Unconcious - A. A. Seeligson, Jr.
1973 Sham - Sigmund Sommer
1974 Judger - S. W. Hancock
1975 Diabolo - Frank McMahon
1977 Affiliate - Harbor View Farm
1979 General Assembly - B. R. Firestone
1980 Rumbo - Gayno Stable & Bell Bloodstock Co.
1981 Pass The Tab - L. Villareal
1982 Muttering - Tartan Stable
1983 Caveat - August Belmont IV
1984 Swale - Claiborne Farm
1985 Stephan's Odyssey - Henryk de Kwiatowski
1986 Groovy - Ballis & Kruckel
1987 Masterful Advocate - Belles & Leveton
1988 Regal Classic - Sam-Son Farm & Windfields Farm
1989 Houston - Beal, French & Lukas
1990 Pendleton Ridge - Bruce McNall
1993 Tossofthecoin - Sidney craig
1994 Valiant Nature - Verne H. Winchell

And for Angel Cordero's mounts:
1968 Verbatim - Elmendorf
1970 Corn Off The Cob - Fence Post Farm
1971 Jim French - F. J. Caldwell
1974 Cannonade - J. M. Olin
1975 Sylvan Place - Darby Dan Farm
1976 Bold Forbes - E. R. Tizol
1977 For The Moment - Gerald Robins
1979 Screen King - Flying Zee Stables
1980 Gold Stage - Mrs. Philip B. Hofmann
1981 Flying Nashua - Jensen, Digiulio, Homan, Ronca
1982 Air Forbes Won - Edward Anchel
1983 Slew O'Gold - Equusequity Stable
1985 Spend A Buck - Hunter Farm
1987 Capote - Klein, French, Beal
1988 Brian's Time - Mr. & Mrs. James Phillips
1990 Land Rush - D. W. Lukas & Overbrook
1991 Quintana - Gary Garber

Anyway, it's a start.

Sent a note to a friend at HRTV to see if either she or Jon white can figure it out.

You can narrow it down to the #6 horses as well.

I wrote teh Jockey club. If anyone has a searchable database of colors, it should be them.

Doesn't look like Angel to me, wrong facial features. Pincay would be my next guess. If I see Angel tomorrow, I'll try to remember to ask him. ;)

Is the horse One Drink with Pincay? Didn't run in the Kentucky Derby, but won the Derby Trial at Fairplex...

Also, Preston Madden had a 10th place finisher in the 1972 Kentucky Derby named "Kentuckian" with Donald Brumfield up. Can't find a picture... but here's Don Brumfield:

I really need a job... or to at least go ride my horse, because:

So the horse is indeed the #6 horse in the 1972 Kentucky Derby, Kentuckian. Very cool! :)
