View Full Version : Suppleness Exercises

I rode at a jumping clinic this past week and the clinician really liked my horse and how we worked together. Since we had limited time, and the lesson was over fences, we didn't focus on suppling exercises. At the end of the lesson he mentioned that my horse was a little stiff and some suppling would do wonders. Of course, he had to start the next lesson so didn't have time to pick his brain about exercises!
I always warm up with circles, serpentines, loops to centerline at walk and trot.

What other exercises would help with suppling?

I'm going to assume both lateral and dorsal suppling are needed and can always be worked on.

Shoulder in, haunches in, counter bending, leg yield, feeding carrots on ground and have horse hug you w neck, long and low, swimming, trails at trot doing above, ground poles on long rein doing long and low. We tend to want to frame horses up, and it can lead to such stiffness. We are constantly having to work on this with our big guy.
