This may sound stupid to some, but, I have seen a few people ride in a snaffle at the FEI levels. I thought that you were required a double bridle?

USEF changed the rule late in 2009. You can use a snaffle bridle now in all classes unless you are competing in a CDI, high performance, or Junior/Young Rider classes. Basically any class where FEI rules would overturn USEF rules.

Sure no problem! I believe it was Anne Gribbons who pushed for the rule change. I am glad the option is there now.

Just a note of clarification. The operative word is 'Qualifying'.

The rule is DR 121.4 "FEI tests ridden at national competitions (excluding USEF High Performance classes, USEF Young Adult qualifying classes, as well as FEI Junior and FEI Young Rider Qualifying classes), a plain snaffle bridlle or simple double bridle may be used.

Snaffles are not allowed in the FEI Junior, FEI Young Rider or FEI Young Adult qualifiers. They may be used in non qualifying Junior, Young Rider or Young Adult classes.
