Just had to brag on my OTTB (and yes, I'll post pictures when I get some decent ones! Camera broke :( ).

(and yes, this is novel length. )

I've had Vey (the TB I always talk about, hehe) two and a half-ish months now and holy cow, is he coming along wonderfully.

A little back story:

When I went to look at him, he was 130lbs underweight and had essentially no muscle. Stood about 16.2-ish. Scared of people and just about anything to do with them. He'd never cantered off the track, or really trotted, or jumped more than a crossrail. The owner's agent didn't tell me any of that until after I jumped him 2' (not huge obviously, but bigger than anything he'd done) with no wiggles, and had him cantering around like a little hunter and doing his changes.

Given that he raced a fair amount and his lines, we had some doubts about the condition of his joints... until we saw his 100% perfect x-rays, at which point mom whipped out a checkbook and started writing.

Fast forward to now...

Yesterday, we did a nice long flat school and then went out on a hack by ourselves. Our flat school included leg yields, turn on the forehand, stretchy circles, lengthenings, and introducing shoulder fore. The we went for a hack, where we did gallop sets and jumped a big ditch and a few logs. (yes, I did check out the footing first, no worries!).

Several days previously to yesterday's brilliant flat school, we had an equally brilliant jump school, which was lots of bending lines and combinations. Jumped everything (scary flower boxes, panels, you name it) without a hitch and is probably the most adjustable horse I've ever had the pleasure to jump. He was confident, supple, balanced, got his leads, and proved that he can consistently get his own spots (I can ride him on the buckle to a jump and just sit there, he'll get to it beautifully every time).

Even being green and young, he is seriously one of the best horses I've ever worked with. He watches out for me and never, ever does anything but his best. He is absolutely bombproof, amazing with kids, and has more than his fair share of heart and willingness.

He's grown plenty since I got him... He's about 17hh now, filling out great, and really coming into his own. Trainer and I are planning to have him doing Training in the spring, and possibly Prelim in the fall, we shall see. All I know is, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have found such an amazing diamond in the rough. I'm not hugely emotional about horses normally, but I broke down crying happy tears after riding him yesterday. Seeing any horse go from ugly, bleached, skinny, and scared to an willing, fun riding horse is awesome enough to see, but it's even more awesome to know that you are the one who did it, and that you're the one who gave him a second chance, y'know?

Sorry for the novel, I just had to gush about him. I love this little horse so much and I cannot say enough about how lucky I was to find him, and how willing my parents were to take a chance on the fugly racetrack reject.

Coming soon, I promise! Camera's broken at the moment so I don't have any good ones. Hoping to get some pictures from the NEH or *gasp* maybe even a video... Provided that whoever's filming doesn't accidentally film the grass for an hour and run the battery down

I put a few pictures from his first month with me on Photobucket:

Promptly after that, the camera decided to die, so now that he's all nice and fancy looking, there are no pictures of it lol.

I'm also working on getting a blog up... The template is obviously still a work in progress, I haven't had much time to code it yet or anything, but hopefully I'll be able to keep it a little more updated in the near future :)

Thanks :) I get that a lot actually... Guess I'm doing a little better than I thought, lol!

I'll try to get some more pics off my phone later, or maybe try to video his ride this afternoon if the lighting's good enough in the indoor :D
