I am in the process of looking for a new dressage saddle. I have a Prestige now but feel it is too bulky - I feel like there's too much leather between me and the horse and the big honking knee rolls actually get in my way.

I rode in a Max Benz monoflap years ago and remember absolutely loving it, so I'm thinking I'd like to go in that direction again. Has anyone had experiences with these saddles? I've checked online but am having a hard time finding any used ones (budget can't afford a new one). Any advice?

Thanks!!

About 12 years ago, I met a German trainer who rode in one of those. When she moved home to Germany in 2000, she had no trouble selling it here.

Have you looked at online retailers or used tack sites in Germany?

Google "Max Benz sattel"a web site which Google will translate for you.

It looks like there is a form to fill out in order to get a quote. Good luck!

I have my eye on a beautiful used one on that "best used tack" website, can't remember the link off the top of my head, hope to get it on trail. They look super nice but I don't know much about them.

I rode in a Benz for years and loved it. Bought it in Germany. They have a very small tack store but oh my what great stuff. Wonderfully made saddles but not imported to US I believe. Sommer was an "apprentice" of Benz until he went off on his own. You might want to take a test ride in one of his. I haven't ridden in one but they may be similar and much less expensive.

I have one, nearly new and black. Not sure yet to sell or keep in case I need to have my other saddle worked on.
They are very well made, and very close contact, but don't have dees for a monkey strap (which I like to have on young horses ;))

I owned a Max Benz Grand Prix Spezial back in 2004. I liked it but it didnt really fit me that well but at the time it worked. I sold it in 2005 though. It was the monoflap as well.

They are super saddles -- well made and wear like iron. My coach has/had one till her horse grew out of it.

LOVE THEM! The majority of my dressage lessons years ago were in a Max Benz Grand Prix Spezial (which did not belong to me.)

Having learned to ride dressage in one... nothing else ever felt as good to me. For years I mourned the loss of 'my' saddle, until the magic that is the internet found me a lightly used one on Ebay. So happy... I just rode in it "again" for the first time a few weeks ago and the second I sat in it.... ah, now that's the stuff! I just had someone else ride in it the other day and she loved it too.
