View Full Version : Any other saddle similar to a Black Country Vinici?

The title pretty much says it all! My daughter currently rides in an Albion Legend and it's just not working for her. She rode in a friend's Black Country Vinici and fell in love. I am not, however, in love with the price and they are difficult to find used. I'm looking for a less expensive equivalent to the Vinici or another saddle that would work for a smaller (5'2") rider with shorter legs. Any suggestions?

The Perfection is probably the closest but probably won't save you any money.

I keep getting notices from them that their demos are on sale 20% off but alas they don't have the w eventer I am looking for. Maybe you would get lucky

I have been lucky to get 2 short flap Connections as demos but I would like an eventer so that I don't take my $$$$ dressage saddle trail riding

I would give the Competitor or Connection a try. I have seen some great deals on used ones both on Ebay and places like Pelham Saddlery, Dressagestar.com and others. I have the Perfection, and no, it does not save you money, but I do love it. Try it before you buy.

ETA: If you go to a tack store and try out the saddle and like it, then look for it used on ebay or something similar. Someone also suggested trying demo models. I would buy a demo Competitor or Connection, but I have heard that the Perfection Demo has velcro that holds the external knee roll in place. They do that so you can move it around and find what you like most when ordering a custom saddle. I have been told that the velcro wears out on the demo and you are better off buying a used Perfection as opposed to a demo model. I bought mine used.

I don't find the connection much like the Vinici, though I like the County Connection a lot. A friend who has ridden in Black Country and County saddles recommended the Toulouse Verona if you like the monoflap feel: http://www.smartpakequine.com/m-toulouse-verona-monoflap--8421p.aspx

The Devoucoux Milady is another thought, though it is a different feel than the Vinici. It does have the monoflap. Another option is the Vega http://www.fine-used-saddles.com/catalog.htm?Iit=908&Ict=2 (this one pretty expensive, but have seen them for less)

Posted on New England Dressage Association Site:

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions. I'll have her do some research and try out the other saddles mentioned. Hopefully we'll find a less expensive alternative!

I own a Black Country Eloquence and love it. I am actually considering the Vinici because my horse is so wide, taking out any added bulk under my leg would be good, as well as having a "narrower" seat.
I just wanted to say what wonderful saddles they are :)

Trumbull Mountain also has several used Black Country dressage saddles, one of them a Vinici.

Hi,

Well I think the best thing is to try as many saddles as possible, esp if she only tried the DV once. Meanwhile, keep checking Ebay. I looked and waited and looked and waited for a da vinci but never ran across one -- in the last couple of months at least 4 have been for sale on Ebay.
