In the April 2011 Dressage Today on page 64 there's a full page ad for 2011 Young Horse Selection Trials. I'm curious who the gorgeous black horse is-anyone know any info about it- name, owner, breeding, etc. I already checked the photographer's website but found nothing.

Thanks

I don't get Dressage Today, so this is a TOTAL guess...was it either:

This horse: http://www.dressage-news.com/?p=11596
Wake Up and Emily Wagner from Kansas. They were the only US pair at the Verden World Championships last summer, and qualified again this year for the 6yo. They were something like 0.02 points away from making the finals at the world championships last year - which pretty awesome for a 22 yo (I think) American with a Kansas-bred American WB horse!

Selten and Elizabeth Ball from California - qualified for Verden last year, but elected not to go. Won the 4, 5 and 6 year old US national championships - the first horse to do so.

Both of those are two very successful young horses who are also gorgeous and black.

It is Wake Up. He is an American Warmblood by Wagnis (Weltmeyer) out of Maiden Montreal. Registered American Warmblood Registry and approved RPSI. I have a 5 yr old half-brother to him!

I got to see Wake Up and Emily in person recently. He is a gorgeous creature and they are a beautiful pair. Some pix and my account are here (http://collectingtbs.com/2011/05/23/wakeup-graces-lamplight-wins-young-horse-selections/)

I also took about a million pictures, which I dumped onto Flickr. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/skerik/tags/dressage/)I was shooting in high-speed a lot of the time, so if you're into lookning at sequences of movements, you might enjoy thumbing through these.

Gorgeous. I have always had a soft spot for black horses and dressage.

I am incapable of connecting your posts to your blog most of the time. Duh.

I just added you as a contact on flickr - and thanks for sharing the photos!

@netg thanks for the kind words. "Thinking out loud" about my rides, lessons and meager progress does help.

Now I'll wander over to Flickr and stalk some of your pix! :)

js, just a note about the info in your blog:

Emily and Wake Up didn't win last year at Verden, unfortunately. They missed the finals by the narrowest of margins (.02 of a point or something like that). Disappointing, but not bad for a pair of young'uns in their very first international appearance. And they are most impressive in person.

eek, how did I miss that? :o (blushing) - chalk it up to my being an enthusiast blogger, not a pro! (Rider too, for that matter!)

Believe me, I am no expert on dressage -- in the saddle or in words. I just happen to know about Emily and Wake Up.

Great pics, by the way.
