My last horse showed under "The Obvious Winner"...which sounded fantastic when you won your class, but pretty funny when you pinned lower.

My old barn had a old grey named "Space Ghost" and a little chestnut who showed under "Boo Ger"

Back in the day, in my pony club, there was a girl who had a horse with the show name "Mom's New Kitchen." Speaks for itself! I also had two other friends whose horses were named "Daddy's Last Dime" and "Lots of Dots" (the latter was a 13hh Chincoteague black-and-white spotted pony). A local school pony that some of us rode at various hunter shows in our time was named "Captain Crunch" (he was a little sorrel/roan that was the same color "yellow" as the cereal).

Oh, and definitely no offense to Kim Severson, but "Choo Choo Magoo" just doesn't sound like the name of the next Rolex winner, does it? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Pimped Out Horse- was a horse I saw at a local horse trials in Training, they actually didn't do so bad....

Kitty Cat- This at least 20 year old school horse I used to be put on all the time for lessons when I was little. She did the hunters and jumpers in her younger days although I feel bad for whoever rode her then. She was a pyshco even at 20 and her favorite thing to do was squeal and spin around to kick someone in the lesson, thus resulting in some poor little kid biting dust. She would also stop when I was leading her and I not knowing anything would stand there for a good 15-30 minutes trying to get her to go each week. ( I would usually give up crying and lead her back to the barn for some help, lol http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif)

She was also such a joy to groom, she pinned her ears and squealing which scared the living daylight's out of me. She was also a snow white color and just happened to go out in the 10 acre pasture the farm had which was made up of mostly red clay ( it took about an hour each day to catch that evil horse!). Did I mention the fact she hated baths and would break the cross ties in the wash stall?

Yellow Biscuit- From the same barn as "Kitty" the place obviously had a knack for naming horses (the barn also included a pony named Laffy Taffy and an Appy named McAllister).

He was known for wandering into the feed room and tack room to mess things up after jumping the pasture fence. Also known for eating the cat food. He was only about 13.0 but had amazing scope, unfortunately he used these skills to jump out of the arena or use his small stature to duck under wire fences while kids were aboard. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I knew a horse whose JC name was "Nix A Buffalo" which was, obviously, just terrible. I used to go to shows where there was a horse named "Osteotomy", and I once read on one of these forums of a horse called "Fourleggedy Beastie" which I absolutely love. I met a horse at an in-barn show a number of years ago called "Dilligas" (Do I Look Like I Give A S***).

My friend cut her hunter teeth on a pony named "See Spot Trot" which was all too fitting for the wicked albeit adorable pinto pony he was. There's also a flyer at our barn for a horse for sale with the name "Scottie Too Hottie" which makes me laugh every time I see it.

Paycheck is perfect!

We recently re-named our 2 yr old App x TB (he looks like a TB with a blanket) that we bought as a baby. His "App" names were "Gotta Go Right Now" (registered with APHA) and barn name was Little John. My daughter thought that was too much bathroom-stuff, so now he's "Blanket Approval" (USEA and USEF) and "Stumpie" for his barn name at home b/c he has to go for check ligament surgery on Thursday http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif

Please keep fingers and toes crossed that the surgery works and he actually ever gets to use his USEA name http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sadsmile.gif If not he's my trail horse or pasture potato cuddle horse - either is fine (he's soooo cuddly) http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

A YR from the Chicago area had a horse named Daddy Got A Bonus, but she sold him to an adult and she didn't keep the name..I thought it was cute.

"I'm A Booger Too": Appaloosa superhorse (or was going for the superhorse title or something like that).

If eventing wasn't a family sport I'd enter my fat, slow mare under the name "Sofa Can Slow." (Say it outloud like an announcer would, "SSM riding Sofacanslow through the water..."). SofaCanFast actually made it past the JC - we looked it up for a TB yearling.

I also liked an old eventer called "Too Cute To Shoot," and saw a horse on the track last week called "No Speed No Feed."

Two race horse names from way back have stuck with me (like a bad song you can't get out of your head)...

No Plastic Saddle and Heavy Mayonnaise.

What were their owners thinking???

My QH mare's registered names is Miss Cee The Socks (by Squaw Sport Socks, out of Cee Vee Trax) You can pick which of those is the stupidest -- YUCK http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif She showed as Singular Sensation (Sadie) which fit her perfectly.

I have one regsitered as "Sad Sack."

He is the king of the barn though--big, cocky, attention-demanding--very much the "manly man." Not a Sad Sack at all.

I bought him without a name and didn't find out he was S.S. for almost a year. By then my mom had named him Odysseus (Odie)--long story. Luckily for him!

I can't think of the horses exact names but they are JC registered and the names sound pretty innocent when you say them slowly but in a race when the anouncer says them quickly they sure are dirty. I wish I could remember what they were......
I also knew a jumper whos name translated to piece of sh*t. He was actually a very good horse just not always so nice to work with.

At my last barn there was an app breeder who kept getting babies with no color for a couple years in a row. one year while her mare was in foal she said if this one doesn't have color I am going to shoot him. He came out with no color but was so cute she named him Too Cute to Shoot.

AKDragoo...I was just thinking about George's registered name as I was reading this post!!! As I said to you before at least his name isn't "Her Brother"...that would be even more perverted!!!

Another funny one was a palomino pony named Pita. Seems innocent enough until the mom of kid that owned the pony explained that Pita stood for Pain In The A**

A friend has a racehorse named "Flying Pickle."
Another friend of mine had a horse in college she used to show. His JC registered name was "Hillbilly Indian." She said she didn't even want anyone to know what his registered name was because it was so bad.
There was a QH farm where I used to work that bred HUS horses. One mare was a TB named Final Demension and she was bred to a QH named Luke at Me. They ended up (if I remember correctly) naming the baby "Lukin' in 3-D"

Back in the day when I showed the ponies, we had a cute little gray Welsh mare whose show name was Button Up. At one show, the announcers mangled that into "Bottoms Up" ... and now that I'm a lot older, I think it'd be a cute name for an eventer or a jumper, but not a pony hunter (whose riders should be well under the age of 21!).

My gelding's JC name is "Awe Kitty Kitty". I get so much ribbing about it!

You MIGHT think that I would change it. But No! I'm superstitious and so Awe Kitty Kitty it is.

But my trainer made me promise if he ever made it to Rolex we'd change his name. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ha ha. Talk about crossing a bridge I'm so never going to come to!!

I DID shorten his barn name from "Kitty" (remember: gelding) to "Kitt". Like David Hasselhoff's car in Knight Rider.

The worst part is, his dam's name is Dramatic Beauty and his sire's Awesome Cat, so you think there might've been a better combo out there...

That is priceless! You reminded me, however, of a family who was in my pony club when I was a child, who had a pony that ALL of their kids had gone through. The crest on his neck was about a foot wide...his barn name..."Tubby" His show name was Mr. Tubby Checkers. I thought that was brilliant.

When one particular farm in the area was getting started their horses were named:

"Pal" the palamino
"Apple" the appaloosa
"Elgian" the Belgian

and so on and so forth... pretty pathetic... the poor guys!

How about:

We had a "Withawind" - which sounds like no big deal, except his barn name gave new meaning to his show name. What was his barn name?

We've had a paly mare named "In the Mood" and of course her first paly filly we called "In the Nude". So it was fun going to shows with the announcer saying...and here's so and so riding in the nude!

In college I rode an obnoxious little arab gelding who (once we clicked) was an AWESOME event pony. His show name was "Fair Warning" - very appropriate for him. His barn name was Crockett and we called him the Crockett Rocket.

A couple of names I remember from the past:

Bob, for the really thin rescue horse (stands for Bag of Bones).
Lackanookie (named by a recently divorced man).

And I'm dying to name a horse Two Buck Chuck (nickname of the really cheap wine Trader Joe's carries) or Champerty (which is a legal term meaning ambulance chasing/ soliciting business).

My retired Intermediate event horse Carlos (AKA Red Rum, before I knew better), was quite well-bred, by Grand Alliance, and his exceptionally well-bred (Le Fabuleaux, War Admiral etc) dam was named Daffy Down Dilly =8-o !

I would have pegged that as a QH or SB name ;->

(Hey, KIDDING, OK??)

I had a friend who had a little dun mare she called "Dunno".

I liked it so much I wanted something similar for a little horse she and her husband gave me. In the end i called him "Guess"

It was great when some one asked who she was riding and she replied "Dunno". She got a very strange look as we were about to get on for a day out hunting!!

When putting entries in, I'd get very annoyed secretaries when they asked who I was riding and I said "Guess"

My all time fav would be similar to the stay puffs one. We had a big old fat white lesson horse at Garrison years ago whose barn name was "Arby." Well when we finally went to a show and the announcer called out the names we all kindof started giggling. His name turned out to be..... "Mr. Marhsmallow"

And from my current occupation I have a coupple favs I hear every week or so.

A friends' client's horse, "ThankyouBellagio" and yes the clients visit to Vegas bought the hose.

Sort of along the lines of Fig Jam I heard of an Arab named J.A.F.A.R. (just another f***ing arab retard) thought that was pretty cruel!

Also on equine.com a while back there was a TB named "Arctic Trumpter" http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Also a TB that's a full brother to one of the horses in my barn is called "Twice on Sunday"

I also liked the event horse named Druken Disorderly, as well as the GP jumper Special Ed http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My coach competed her horse under the name With Intention (so-and-so riding With Intention) and she had a big pinto gelding with one blue eye called With Confusion (even better when called out at a show) and her stallion's name is Mr. McCooly. My friend owns one of his babies and shows her under Too Cool to Care which is very fitting.

I call my horse Higgapotamus because he's obese and his name is Higgins.

Also saw a particularly grumpy paint called "Colour Me Unimpressed"

Well, when My horses ex-owners bought their last racehorse, they were looking for a name for him as a yearling. The horses name was Hoosier Matto ( http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sleepy.gif After the park called Hoosier park, I guess, since that was where everyone in the area raced.) Owners wanted to keep the Matt- part in the name, as the sire was His Mattjesty. (Long line of Matt's and Matthews, etc.) We had about a month to think of possible name for the horse, and they decided on "Matto of Fact". http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif(Cute- and now we have the horse.)
My other horses are Studs Hooligan- not quite sure on the story behind that, but the name suits him!- and Madame Flutterby- as "Butterfly" was already taken in the regestery, they hoped she would just "flutter by" the other horses in the race. It was all in vain though. The mare has a total of $250 to her name. Oh well. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I've always wanted to name one Fugawi. It is the name of a yatch race off Nantucket, it stands for Where The F--- Are we? and my brother has raced in it twice, but my semi rotten brother refuses to get me a shirt!

Tim Grubb (I think, I was really young) had a GP horse named Puck W, because then then AHSA wouldn't let them call him Puck U. The horse jumped out of the ring at Devon, almost into the stands IIRC.

My horses name is Aloan- which can be funny depending on who announces. I had one lady have a great time with it, "and here is Jenn riding Aloan. All by herself. All alone...".

He was named that as he was an orphan foal, but the breeder loved him and said it would take a loan for someone to buy him off her... So Aloan it was! Only issue is when people try to make it harder to pronounce then it is. Like Al-oh-Ann or Allan.
