View Full Version : NW GA: Any safe, legal places to take horses swimming?
Jun. 5, 2011, 04:56 PM
Does anyone know of any safe, legal places to take horses swimming? Preferably in NW GA, but East TN or anywhere in North GA would be helpful to know about, too.
Trainer and I have decided to skip this month's horse shows 'cause it's just TOO darn hot, and we think the heese deserve a little vaycay. Preferably at a beach. ;)

You're welcome to join us, if we find a place!
If anyone knows anyplace you can camp overnight w/ horses AND go swimming, that'd be even better! :)

1099 National Forest has an area that allows swimming. Unfortunately some of the trails are closed right now due to the recent tornado's. You can still get to the swimming hole, but you have to detour from the normal route. This is in Central GA. Near Monroe County.
The river is deep & wide enough.

What about East of Atlanta? You can pop over to Southern Cross Guest Ranch (PM OveroHunter here on COTH,) ride some [shaded] trails, and take the horses into the large pond they have on the property.
(If you click on this link: http://www.southcross.com/horses/ and watch the slideshow, you'll see :) )
We used to do some trails up in NE Georgia - Earl's Ford and a few others cross the river for some splish-splashing.
