May. 19, 2011, 03:22 AM
Not Michael Matz.

2YO Margano.

Also, La Ville Rouge spit out another Barbaro brother yesterday.

It's not like Lael (http://inlinethumb14.webshots.com/46029/2085205310099108256S600x600Q85.jpg) has never gone with Tagg before (http://inlinethumb37.webshots.com/48228/2362664720099108256S600x600Q85.jpg).

This is not a big deal.

As Barnfairy states Barclay has long had Lael's horses.

May. 19, 2011, 10:02 AM

Can I nominate that as comment of the year? :D

Nothing against the Jacksons, Tagg or Matz.

May. 19, 2011, 10:26 AM

Did it ever occur to people that MM may have been the one to suggest that Barclay take a crack at one of the brothers???

It's been done before. Just not with a sibling of "he who shall not be named"

Are they going to keep sending her to Dynaformer until he's pensioned or she carries a filly to term, whichever comes first?

May. 19, 2011, 11:04 AM
I think they're going for a filly.

But Dynaformer is eeking slowly towards being pensioned.

She lost the one filly and that was unfortunate.

May. 19, 2011, 11:25 AM
It WAS unfortunate. I hope very much they get the filly they've long wanted.

Short memory. Surely one of the most iconic images of the 2006 Derby is the distinctive Lael silks (http://cache2.asset-cache.net/xc/81444837.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=77BFBA49EF8789215ABF3343C02EA548FCAD0822556C7A3D 1216302CEAB3DB2B621ED78458C491E3) running next to each other stalking the pace most of the way round the track.
White cap = Tagg, Blue cap = Matz

When was the last time Prado rode a Matz trained horse?

Was it Nicanor's debut?

Jun. 11, 2011, 08:22 AM
Nicanor and Lentenor are with a new trainer, also.

Michael Matz is a good man. You can't help but shake his hand and wish him the best. However, whereas he and Barbaro enjoyed tic tac toe...........Nic and Len prefer Rubik's Cube.

Good luck to all.

Well I think Sheryl Crow said it best. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ikjmz_SlGhg)

I think it will be interesting to see if a change in scene does the trick, since the bros have been less than stellar lately. With a European training background with the trainer, I'm looking forward to seeing what the results will be.

It appears it was a big deal afterall, and long overdue I might add. Expect improvements with Nicanor and Lentenor too. Now they might be trained like race horses instead of show horses.

Sorry kids...

Until the nomination came out with Leigh's name on it, I couldn't say a thing.

I agree it's a very positive thing and I am thrilled to see Leigh get a big break. She's an awesome trainer, rider and person.

Plus so others know this too..... Graham's been referring people who wanted to send horses to him, to Leigh.

Saw both in person and they look fabulous. Watched one work- nice boy. Very classy operation.

Not that it matters, but the FOB's were salivating at the prospect of the horse's debut. Marango debuted 9-17-11 at Belmont (http://www.equibase.com/static/chart/pdf/BEL091711USA10.pdf) and finished 7th of 10 starters. From the chart it doesn't sound like a poor effort just one reflective of a green horse.

Yeah, he was only beaten by 4 1/2 lengths. Save ground throughout, had some traffic issues, and the jock didn't get into him too much in the stretch. A very good learning experience race. I hope he came out of it well, and hope to see him again soon.

Easiest to park this here ....

As an aside, Tagg has largely been replaced for Lael by Leigh Delacour to training their horses. Leigh was a onetime assistant to trainer Graham Motion, and her husband, Arnaud, a former assistant to Christophe Clement, went out on their own in 2007.

Lael Stable has done well in calender year 2012: as of 12/2/12 (http://www.equibase.com/profiles/Results.cfm?type=People&searchType=O&eID=829301) 133 starts 21-25-21 with total earnings of $889,712

A comparison, Cot Campbell's partnership of Dogwood for 2012 to date: (http://www.equibase.com/profiles/Results.cfm?type=People&searchType=O&eID=737385) 188 starts 24-27-22 earnings of $1,030,738

I never got to be around the great Barbaro, but Lentenor was a handful to deal with! He was gigantic and would just pull his grooms around wherever he wanted to go. Eek.
