I am SO saddened by this news...loved her. I knew she had been ill for quite some time (liver issues) but had thought it was treatable.
May she run freely with the other greats...what a lovely and talented filly she was. :(

I didn't know she was ill - rather sad.
"She will be cremated following a complete autopsy" (http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/62860/devil-may-care-loses-battle-with-cancer). Poor gal I recall the decision made with Lost In the Fog and cancer .. after a point it simply isn't humane to keep the horse alive.

From John Greathouse and his family's Glencrest Farm in Midway, KY: (http://www.drf.com/news/devil-may-care-filly-who-ran-10-derby-euthanized)
“To all who have followed and been a part of Devil May Care’s racing life and her fight for life, she and I wish to thank and applaud all of you,” Greathouse said in a statement.
“The racing was a thrill and one not to be forgotten or dismissed out of hand. To this day I don’t believe we ever saw her best race. But that is my opinion and will be saved for my memories.
“To those who cared for her and her health, we both thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We tried very hard, only to be overcome by lymphosarcoma, an enemy that we couldn’t beat. We entered a race we couldn’t win.
“In an ironic twist, a year ago today she was busy drawing post position 11 for the 136th Kentucky Derby. She was our shining star.”

I read the bloodhorse article earlier today. Very sad. My OTTB gelding died of the same cancer at age 7 :(
Does anyone know if there is any research being done about links between lymphosarcoma and thoroughbreds? (drugs being used, pedigrees?)
I remember reading about several other horses here on COTH that died of the same.
