View Full Version : Rolex entry list out!

Mar. 15, 2005, 04:32 PM
So far, only 26 entries. Darren is not entered any horse yet. Severson is running both Macguire and Windsome (must say, I do not understnad that!)How many horses usually run at Rolex? Maybe they are not all listed yet.

Hurray for Kim. I am relieved to see that she and Linda are supporting all that Rolex means...will be interesting to see who joins her.

Mar. 15, 2005, 05:37 PM
It doesn't close until the 29th, so I expect there will be many more added.

Mar. 15, 2005, 05:41 PM
I don't find it surprising at all that Darren's name is not on that list.

Edited to say WOW Clark Montgomery! This is big for him, isn't this his first 4 star? He is one of my favorites.

Mar. 15, 2005, 06:35 PM
Why would Darren run at Rolex when he can do a zillion short formats instead? The short is more suited to his horses. Or visa versa.

Mar. 15, 2005, 06:44 PM
I read somewhere that John Williams was planning to go, as well. I'm sure there will be more additions.

Mar. 15, 2005, 09:14 PM
I heard that Buck Davidson, Becky Douglas Holder and John Williams are entering. This came from a friend who is in the South Carolina area grooming. Let's see if she know her stuff! There is still plenty of time to enter and some of these riders are like some of us-- enter at the last minute.

Mar. 16, 2005, 04:08 AM
Yay for Bonnie! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifShe has Tuco Territory entered. I *think* this is her first ****? And I know she hasnt had Tuco very long.

(though Im surprised its not Jenga--I love that horse!)

Mar. 16, 2005, 04:39 AM
It will "fluff up" closer to close, you can count on that.

I used to know the average entry numbes but of course cannot recall them. I want to say it's low at 58 and high at 85, but maybe that's the weather forecast in St. Thomas this week?! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Mar. 16, 2005, 05:00 AM
If you open the "competitor's information" on the Rolex site the Schedule says that on Saturday phase A will begin at 11:52, and the first horse is not on "D" until around 1:00 p.m.
This is not what the 'public' schedule says on the web site.
So they can't be expecting that many horses.

PS I'm rooting for Little Tricky.

Mar. 16, 2005, 05:30 AM
First horse starts Phast A at 8:22, Phase B at 8:41, Phase C at 8:45 and XC at 9:30 with a horse every 5 minutes. Those are the start times that were mailed to all of us officials and volunteers. They will stop for lunch around 11:30 or 12:00 for an hour or so. The SJ on Sunday, however, won't begin until noon.

I am so excited about going! It will be my first Rolex, and I'm so glad I am going to get to see it before it crosses to the "dark side" like Badminton and Burghley have... http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/cry.gif Hopefully those entries will fill up!!!

Mar. 16, 2005, 05:39 AM
YEA!! JENNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mar. 16, 2005, 05:58 AM

Jenna's still on for it! She banged up her ankle at Red Hills coming off Obie at the TeePee (he wasn't real sure about the question there and twisted her off) but other than being embarrassed it didn't phase her. I'm going to send around an email to see if anyone from around here wants to contribute to sponsoring her. I'm after her about signing up with the American Horse Trials Foundation so they'd be tax deductible--do you know any other way to get donations tax deductible?

Mar. 16, 2005, 06:02 AM
LAZ... I was wondering what happened at Red Hills. Glad they're both ok and still on track. Did she ever get in contact with Alison Kroviak about the entry for Rolex?? Last I talked to Alison she said she hadn't heard from Jenna at all.

Mar. 16, 2005, 06:08 AM
LAZ - we found that AHTF made more sense than trying to set up a separate foundation for tax deductible contributions. They took a fairly decent cut as their overhead (I think it's around 7%) but they are pleasant and competent to work with, they have a bona fide organizational structure, and they are well established. We looked into a separate foundation but were told by our tax advisors that there would be a substantial risk of audit or liability. AHTF is a known organization, and one which is careful to follow the 501(c) rules. Tell Jenna to sign up!

Mar. 16, 2005, 06:32 AM
Got Spots--

Can donations be made in the name of a specific rider? In other words--can I tell people if they donate the the AHTF for Jenna that she will get the money, not someone else?

Mar. 16, 2005, 06:33 AM

I don't know about that--I'll ask her. I'll probably be talking to her in the next day or two.

Unfortunately for Gillian, the rider has to be a US citizen.

Mar. 16, 2005, 07:00 AM
And some of the horses that ARE listed will drop out for various reasons.

Mar. 16, 2005, 07:08 AM
Jenna was hobbling Sat. evening...but it didn't stop her from getting up and dancing (as well as she could on one foot).

Mar. 16, 2005, 07:20 AM
I'm a new Jenna fan!!!!!!!! I just met her last month in Aiken. That girl is fabulous. Holy cow, what a great example she is to the rest of us and she's just a little kid! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif I'll be cheering for her with all my might. Tell her to sweat that ankle with DMSO for a couple of nights and she'll be good as new.
I *think* that when one makes a donation to the AHTF (hey, look at that: American HORSE TRIALS Foundation. THAT'S a good name for the sport. I wonder who came up with that http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif) Sorry. One can put a note in the envelope to designate that the $$ is for a certain someone, but do not write it on the actual cheque.
****GO JENNA**** http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Mar. 16, 2005, 08:07 AM
Thanks Foxy for the real Saturday times. My credit card would melt if I had to shop another 1/2 day on Saturday http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Mar. 16, 2005, 08:46 AM
weezie~ LOL. I know what you mean! I'll be working most of the day on Saturday, so that kills a day of shopping. But I'll be there Friday and Sunday too, so I could do a lot of damage! I told my BF yesterday to make sure I dont' bring any more than $200 or so for spending b/c I'll end up spending away all of my summer entry fees!!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Mar. 16, 2005, 11:58 AM
Thanks guys! I'll call her shortly and pester her so we can get going with the donations.

Jenna didn't mention doing any dancing...but it doesn't really surpise me! I remember the days when pain was secondary to fun...

She is an absolutely great kid (actually young lady now). It's been a treat to watch her grow up. People all the time would say "what a nice girl your daughter is" and I'd get all indignant and say "She's NOT my daughter!", then I realized I am old enough to be her mother, and that it was a compliment to have anyone think that pretty thing is my kid. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Mar. 16, 2005, 01:40 PM
LAZ= same for me, and since I have jazz who is older then her, she could be my daughter! I spoke to her about sending Priss her way, and she was WAY sick- glad that she is better. She said its been somewhat tough being there, but that may have been sickness talking.

As far as the donations, keep me in the know. I am in Tryon most of the time until 4/9, but want to do what I can.

I am so damn proud of that girl, it gives me shivers. You did a fantstic job starting her, LAZ, credit due where it is due. Yes, she is amazing, and there have been amazing people along her path.

(btw- Taco says Hi, and your faith in him is justified!)

Mar. 16, 2005, 02:31 PM
Sara Mittleider, the Young Rider from Idaho, who wrote a great diary (posted on the USEA website) about going to the American Eventing Championship, is also entered!

Mar. 16, 2005, 02:45 PM
Yay! Another almost local person (in Montana, we take what we can for local)! Interesting, I found a HT program from a couple years ago where Sara was competing only a level above me. I'll be lucky if I go Novice this year http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif !

Does anyone know if Amy Tryon is riding this year? She's almost local, too!

Mar. 16, 2005, 04:54 PM
I read somewhere that Amy is not riding. In the article she said that Pogie had already done Rolex a number of times, 5 or 6 I think, and that she would be heading to Lumhulen with Woodstock (I think). I'm pretty sure she said that Beau was retired to happily compete at the lower levels with his owner.

Mar. 18, 2005, 01:07 PM
We will be heading out on our second epic trip across the country on April 18th. This time with a bigger, more heavy duty truck. Maybe we can make the round trip without having to be towed. I hate that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mar. 18, 2005, 02:37 PM
im a jenna fan too along with pol. i met and talked to her briefly when i was at jbf in aiken this winter. i hope she ends up doing rolex...and having a safe, fun go!

Mar. 18, 2005, 05:13 PM
He's not going..... Bruce will be getting the rods and wires out of his hand about then http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

No way! That cannot be everyone!

I thought that I heard somewhere, that Darren was taking a horse to Rolex his year!? hhhmmmm.

I also know that Caroline Dowd is going and yet shes not on the list. It's probably not updated and/or complete yet.

Mar. 19, 2005, 05:47 PM
Will Caroline be off of medical by then? There was some talk about that on our afternoon trail ride...she is much better, but still on restrictions.... I know the Rices want her to go if she is okay.... crossing fingers and toes....

Mar. 19, 2005, 07:36 PM
Gillian and Sport will NOT be competing.

Mar. 19, 2005, 07:48 PM

This has totally ruined my evening. There must be a good explanation? Well, obviously not good, since they won't be at Rolex.

Mar. 19, 2005, 07:52 PM
ohno! why isn't gillian running? is everything ok?

Mar. 19, 2005, 07:59 PM
Wait, who's having muscle spasms? Jillian or Sport? They are both 'hers'! I am assuming it's Jillian...

In that case, it is best to wait until Jillian is fully healthy again, jingles for a speedy recovery! But I will very much miss watching them at Rolex this year http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sadsmile.gif Maybe 2006?

Mar. 19, 2005, 08:04 PM

The muscle spasms are Sport.

Mar. 19, 2005, 08:09 PM
Wait- What happened to Caroline?

Mar. 20, 2005, 06:03 AM
Oh Janet, I'm so sorry- I love taking Sport's temp. She is such an arrogant little thing, as well she should be!! I'll miss her in the box. Best to Gillian...

Mar. 20, 2005, 04:47 PM
So sorry about Sportscar....ugh. I have had the joy of talking to both of them, and they are both delightful http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif love their partnership.

Caroline fell at Redhills, in SJ- was taken off, but is out of the hospital, and as of today is said to be doing very well. I don't know yet is Rolex is a for sure thing, but I will talk to Mary tomorrow. She will know....

Mar. 20, 2005, 04:52 PM
Just got word today that Sally Cousins will be entering Troy.

Mar. 20, 2005, 05:25 PM
Solleone, really?! That's FABULOUS!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I'm SO THRILLED! Aww, Troyboy! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sadsmile.gif

Mar. 21, 2005, 06:14 PM
One week left! Rolex entries up to 30 according to their website.

Mar. 21, 2005, 06:36 PM
That is really low. And a couple of those are scratches, from what I have read here.
That is going to make for a short day xc.
This is sad.

Mar. 21, 2005, 08:19 PM
Neato!! I saw that Brittany Kart is entered, and I've heard from my trainer that she's a wonderful yougn lady. Plus she's riding my trainer's old horse, Semper Fidelis! Well, not old, but you get the idea.

Mar. 22, 2005, 06:15 AM
When did Tiffani Loudon get married?

Also, does anyone know if Abigail Lufkin is expected to ride? And is Bruce Davidson Sr retired completely now?

Please update me on the latest...

Glad to see Fox-Pitt, but with only one??

Mar. 22, 2005, 06:21 AM
I don't think Ab is riding...

Any ideas why there are SO few entries?

Mar. 22, 2005, 06:43 AM
Yeah. Riders are all aiming for short format, so why run the long and "risk" wear and tear? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I know a few, as mentioned here, who would be running but for the odd injury or layup, like Sportscar, or Gretchen Butts and Zydeco...

Robby Johnson
Mar. 22, 2005, 07:16 AM
Ab is recovering from a really badly broken collarbone, so it's doubtful she'll be riding at Kentucky.

Mar. 22, 2005, 07:21 AM
So do entries usually come in at the last minute?? This is my first ever trip to Rolex, been wanting to go forEVER, and it is disappointing to save the money, get the time, and have this happen...

But I keep checking the list every day. What about the O'Connors?

Mar. 22, 2005, 07:29 AM
Closing date in March 29

Mar. 22, 2005, 07:36 AM
dianad - Karen is aiming Upstage at Rolex this year...not sure why he's not on the list yet...

Mar. 22, 2005, 12:14 PM
Well, Caroline's on the list, and that's new since Red Hills.............

*Crosses fingers* Here's hoping for more entries.

Mar. 22, 2005, 03:02 PM
No....Bruce is not retired, he broke his hand in 14 places riding a young horse i own that he rides and is not getting the rods out of his hand before the end of this month. He is planning on trying to ride at Plantation if the doctors okay it. Buck has been riding the young horses at the last few events to keep them going.
As for Ab...not sure i think she got hurt, and is laid up also.

Hey Tuppismam,

Great to see that Sarah is entered. Wish her al the luck and you guys a save trip.

Mar. 22, 2005, 06:45 PM
Oh Bigruss was that your big gelding, the 6yo? that did that? Naughty boy! (If that was the one...sigh) How are others doing and are you riding some for him and helping out in barn? When back to Unionville?

Mar. 22, 2005, 08:23 PM
Gnep, Thanks We are all looking forward to going. There is quite a crowd of Idaho folks heading to KY.

We will wave as we pass through Colorado!

Mar. 22, 2005, 11:28 PM
So excited to kind of 'know' a competitor, having lived in Idaho Falls 20some years, I remember Sara (and Gary).
We will be cheering for her!! Diana

Mar. 23, 2005, 03:48 AM
ha ha ha....yeah that was my boy! and actually he is 7 now. We bred him and the horse I ride(farm is now shut down since my dad passed away), Bruce wanted that one, I think I got the better deal. Seriously though he usually isn't bad at home but can be very cheeky away as he is still green this is his second year.
I do help out at home and I keep the one I'm riding there too most of the year anyway. I have been a student/ friend for about 28 years now , I started riding with him on my pony when I was 9. So I guess I am more of a permanent fixture, I go to events and help groom or whatever when they need it.
The others are all doing well. Buck rode them last weekend at an event in Rocking horse and did realy well. My guy was 7th Bruce said they had a hiccup at the water (him being green) it was his first whole Intermediate (Poplar would have been his first), and his grey mare "Jam" was 2 nd in her division. I love her she is my favorite. The other young guys all placed and he was hapopy with them all. They all start coming home after next weekend finally. It is really quiet at the barn without everyone around, though I just got back from So Pines for the winter myself.

Too Old for Pony Club
Mar. 23, 2005, 09:57 AM
Here's my question; if there are only 40 horses, will they really run that as two days of dressage? Seems silly to only have 4 or 5 hours of dressage spread over two days. Though I guess if they decided to condense it, they would have angry people who had purchased 4 day tickets...
Last year was our first year going; I guess we were spoiled by the number of horses we got to see!

Mar. 23, 2005, 10:26 AM
SOOOOO excited that Sara is running! I just checked the list!

Woo hoo!

Mar. 23, 2005, 11:39 AM
I see that John Williams appeared on the list today with 2 horses entered, and Karen O'Connor was there with Upstage.
Here's hoping the entries continue to trickle in for the next 6 days! I'm holding my breath.

Robby Johnson
Mar. 23, 2005, 11:45 AM
Have the definite scratches been removed?

Mar. 23, 2005, 11:46 AM

Mar. 23, 2005, 11:47 AM
www.rk3de.org (http://www.rk3de.org) - entry list is under 2005 event tab

Mar. 23, 2005, 01:37 PM
I'm psyched that Adrienne Iorio Borden is going. If I'm not mistaken, this is her first time. She runs and teaches at a barn about half an hour away from me, and I almost bought a horse from her, so I sort of know her. Her horses are gorgeous, I'm excited to see her there! Also rooting for Kim Severson (of course) Clark Montgomery, and Brittany Kart. I'm really excited, it's my first year http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Mar. 23, 2005, 03:23 PM
This is actually Adrienne's third time at Rolex, she has run her horse Show of Heart there the last two years though they did complete last year. I believe she will be scratching one of hers that is listed but still plans to run the other one.

Mar. 24, 2005, 09:59 PM
Any idea if there will be more? My first time in AGES and first time for many people that I know of.

Would be sad to see it be a small year.

Mar. 25, 2005, 11:05 AM
Caroline's still going. I just talked to her and she's doing well - wow, scary accident. She still has some headaches when she posts the trot, but she should be back in good shape soon and she's definitely planning on running Chester. He, too, seems to be well. Thank God for miracles - I can't believe she wasn't hurt worse than she was. I'll talk to her tomorrow during my lesson and see how she's feeling.

We're rooting for you, Caroline!

Mar. 25, 2005, 11:08 AM
Yay... Amy Barrington!!

Mar. 25, 2005, 11:21 AM
Go Platty Go!!!!

Mar. 25, 2005, 02:36 PM
I am so pleased for Caroline- PHEW!! Headaches, however, are not a good thing. Please tell her to be careful!
MY Rolex tickets arrived today. How exciting! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Mar. 25, 2005, 02:36 PM
I rode with Amy AGES ago. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif IN a few clinics anyway. I believe she's the one that made me tie my stirrups to my girth... ahh great memories. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Robby Johnson
Mar. 28, 2005, 07:26 AM
I'm so stoked that Andrew Hoy is bringing two over! I've never gotten to watch him ride and have always admired him and the great Darien Powers! Yay!

Also, see the list got "beefier" with the last update so this is a very good thing!

My fingers are crossed doubly for everyone, but particularly Kristin Schmolze and Cavaldi ("Joey").

Mar. 28, 2005, 08:51 AM
Kim Morani and Holly Hepp are among the "journal"writers (directly under entry list on the menu) but they are not on the entry list. Is the text from last year? It sounds up to date.

Robby Johnson
Mar. 28, 2005, 08:55 AM
Their entries are for this year but it could very well be that their horses have scratched. I wrote that series for several years and had that occur with a few of my featured riders.

Mar. 28, 2005, 01:45 PM
Katro- quote button isn't working for me, but... oops. Pay no attention to me, then http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

Mar. 28, 2005, 01:51 PM
I see Jan Thompson entered in today.

I guess tomorrow is it for the entrys.

Mar. 29, 2005, 12:47 PM
Well....I guess thats it.

Today was the cut off for entrys.

46 will run Rolex this year.

Mar. 29, 2005, 01:04 PM
Holly Hepp's second entry in the "featured riders" says she is not going to make it to Rolex with Damien this year. I don't know why Kim Meier-Morani isn't on the entry list, however, even though she is a featured rider. Wasn't sure why Becky Douglas wasn't running Comet this year-glad to see she is on the list now.

hamish macbeth
Mar. 29, 2005, 01:31 PM
I am not sure but I think Janie Atkinson may take entries even after the closing date.

Mar. 29, 2005, 01:52 PM
Sport is still on the list, even though she is now not going.

Mar. 29, 2005, 05:51 PM
Well several of the entries on the list are also entered at Badminton.

Mar. 29, 2005, 07:40 PM
All I have to say is....

Mar. 30, 2005, 10:16 AM
I see Skyeler Icke(YR) listed. According to eventingetc.com, she was seriously injured at S.Pines the weekend of March 19.

Mar. 30, 2005, 10:22 AM
Would love to hear why Sport is no longer going, I was really rooting for them...

Mar. 30, 2005, 10:23 AM
For those interested, Zydeco ("Z") and Gretchen Butts, Waredaca, MD, skipped Rolex because she will be an assistant TD at Badminton this year.

Mar. 30, 2005, 10:24 AM
See previous pages for info. on Sport....

With such a short list, I'm impressed about how many Young Riders are on the list. Are there always so many??? I know Brittney Kart and Laine Ashker were both at Poplar this weekend. I met Laine for the first time and she is such a sweet girl! I'll be pulling for her at Rolex! Well, even though entries aren't too high, I'm looking forward to my first Rolex. Let's just hope we don't get too many scratches

In 2004 there were 44 starters for the full CCI**** at the Rolex Kentucky Horse Trials. 38 horses started the short format competition.

In 2003 56 horses started the traditional event.

Rolex AFIK has never had the number of entries Badminton or Burghley gets.

BTW....where is Jimmy Woffords appraisal and predictions of the riders and horses? I always LOVE reading it.

I just checked the Rolex list and saw Darren has entered Windfall and Amy Tryon has entered Poggio. I had heard Amy wasn't running Poggio because he has been around Rolex so many times. And I'm really surprised Darren has entered! Wow...

Wow - I thought CMP recommended not doing Rolex - and going to Europe for one of the CIC's instead??

It is great to see the entries filling up.

Now everyone needs to pray for good weather!

is there a true list anywhere of who is actually going? Seems as if there are a lot of people on the list who are known to not be going??

Well, the "true and final list" doesn't come out till after the first horse inspection on Wednesday...
