View Full Version : Interesting bit of historical flotsam

While googling for something mostly unrelated, I stumbled across an intriguing WWI era article. It discusses a tiff between the Jockey Club and its German counterpart, the Union Club. Germany had apparently taken a number of Belgian Thoroughbreds as war booty and attempted to strongarm the Belgians into releasing the registration papers. In solidarity with the Belgians, the Brits denied Jockey Club registration to any of the confiscated animals.

I'd love to learn more about this little chapter in Thoroughbred history: what happened to some of the horses, if the registration issue was ever resolved, etc.
