Hi all,

I am an adult looking to get back into riding in Charlottesville, VA. I do not currently have my own mount, so good, safe lesson horses are a must.

I've tried a few lessons at the Barracks - the horses are incredibly nice, but I was not at all happy with the instruction, and I found the experience to be too impersonal. I felt like non-boarding lesson students were just an afterthought, and the entire barn really only catered to boarders.

I've also tried some lessons at a smaller, more casual barn in the area, but I didn't feel safe on the horses.

Any and all suggestions are much appreciated! Would be willing to go 20-30 minutes outside of town for the right barn or trainer. Thanks in advance!

There are several nice, smaller places around Cville. Four Oaks Farm is a great one, for example.

Glenmore Equestrian Center (on 250 in Keswick) is a great place to get back into riding. There is good group of other adults and great lesson horses.

I rode out at Millington Stables for about a year until I bought my own horse and started doing the bigger shows again. Was very happy there and made lot of the good friends. PM me if you'd like more details.
