View Full Version : Area VIII Year End Awards -- Final Standings - p9

Jun. 30, 2004, 09:01 AM
Just an FYI... I just sent the current leaderboard standings to the Area chairman... they should be posted on the website soon. Points are as of today and include results from Spring Bay, Rolex, Winona, Mayfest and IEA. I know a couple people/horses names here so here's what I know so far:

(deleted due to changes after receiving USEA membership & horse registration information -- see post at the end for updates)

If ya'll have any questions, comments, suggestions or corrections... just holler. If you think you've gotten points and want to know where you stand, ask... I have the entire list.

I just thought it would be fun to share. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Could you check for Heather Joslyn & Mickey? I am an AA riding Training. thanks.

Congrats Lynn and everyone else.

Jun. 30, 2004, 09:30 AM
Hi Heather. Thanks... you were one (of MANY I'm sure) that I wasn't sure where to put you so you got put in the Open -- which means you won't show up on the lists in the correct place when they get uploaded to the Area VIII site. BUT... given that I now know your AA status (thank you)... you are officially in a tie for 8th on the AA ROY list (with 4 points). That also puts you just outside the top 20 on the Training list. congrats! and keep up the good work!!

PS -- I'm officially soliciting award program sponsors!!! We've expanded the program a LOT this year and will need some help to give out the number of awards and ribbons that we want to -- afterall, we put so much into the sport we should get something back if possible, right?? If you'd like to sponsor a specific division or award, that's great...if you want to help out tremendously and just be a "general" award sponsor (with a monetary donation), that would be GREAT too!! Specific awards can include certain divisions or awards like AA Rider of the Year, Stallion/Gelding of the Year, etc.

We're also starting to take nominations (must include a narrative on "Why") for Volunteer of the Year awards.

Jun. 30, 2004, 09:58 AM
That's great--thanks for the update TLE! Congrats to all of you that I know: Delta Wave (WOW!), Mickey 87, annikak AND those that I don't (but I will hopefully meet at future events)! I know I got a few points at Winona, but I got more this weekend at Encore. Maybe after those points are in, I'll be in the top 50? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif . . . Anyway--how do we officially register as an AA? Or do we just let you know?

Jun. 30, 2004, 10:05 AM
Wow! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif That's great news! I picked up 4pts at Derbyshire also, so that should help the cause. I have never been on the leaderboard before! Maybe the years of hard work is finally paying off!!

As far as helping with awards...being that I am the typical poor horse person...I would be better able to help in some way than donate $$. Does Area 8 have their own awards dinner or is it part of the National Convention?

Jun. 30, 2004, 10:06 AM
Basically, yeah... just let me know. IF participation allows, BN-T will be split JR, Senior Ammy, and Open. P-A will be split by YR, Adult Ammy, and Open. The ROY awards will be split Jr/YR, AA and Open. Basically, if I don't know, you end up in Open.

Mickey... there will be an Area meeting that will have the awards presentation as part of it. I'm hoping that by having a leaderboard AND having some new awards, we can generate more interest in attending. Last year was really bad... even with having it in conjunction with the Midsouth meeting (not one person outside organizers from MidSouth attended any of the Area meeting... it was really sad). I'm sure we'll need some help when it comes down to planning and holding the meeting!

Jun. 30, 2004, 10:07 AM
Oh and, ahem . . . I believe that I once indicated that I would be interested in helping sponsor an award. Could you let me know the cost involved with this? I haven't done anything like this before so I just have no idea if we are talking $40 or $400! Maybe Delta Wave and I can co-sponsor the Mare-of-the-Year award since we are both big fans of mares (especially our own!) http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Or did you "call" that award TLE?

Jun. 30, 2004, 10:13 AM
Well, I've kind of "called" it so that at least I knew there would be one. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif But, if we all want to donate some $$ towards the award, I have no problem sharing sponsorship (with any extra going into a general sponsorship category). How does that sound? I haven't totally worked out the details on how much equals sponsorship yet. I can guarantee it won't be $400 though! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif I definitely won't turn that down though! I need to see what the price of ribbons are and a general idea of what we spent on the winners' awards last year. In my mind, as an initial GUESS, I was thinking somewhere between $50 and $100... but that's just a guess.

Jun. 30, 2004, 10:17 AM
Maybe I could sponsor the "Appaloosa Gelding over 17" award!

Jun. 30, 2004, 10:27 AM
Yeah, a "Master Horse" award would be great!

Count me in for some fundage, and maybe a piece o' tack as well. I don't care where it goes, just happy to see the area make something happen in this regard. With my 5-shows-a-year schedule I won't be on any leaderboards for long, but it's nice that the AA's are getting some props! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Jun. 30, 2004, 10:38 AM
I second the "Master Horse" award idea.

Jun. 30, 2004, 10:59 AM
I will contribute fundage as well or tack/horse clothing type stuff (embroidered saddle pads/sheets are always great). I won't steal the mare award from you though. I'm sure there are plenty of others that need contribution. And nope--probably not going to be able to fork out $400! Of course--using the classic excuse of--if I didn't have a horse . . . I could contribute more. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jun. 30, 2004, 12:14 PM
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>With my 5-shows-a-year schedule I won't be on any leaderboards for long, but it's nice that the AA's are getting some props! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Oh but remember, at least for the divisional awards, only the best 6 placings per pair count... so who knows. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

As for a Master Horse Award... hmmm.... not sure about doing it this year, but if we were brainstorming, what kind of qualifications would it entail? Having a 17yo myself, this is an interesting idea. How would points be awarded? Are we talking basically a HOY award but with a minimum age requirement? Or the oldest horse to get points? Or what?

Jun. 30, 2004, 01:37 PM
I think HOY with a minimum age requirement would be good. I know USEA has a Master Rider award. It is not given to oldest, just whomever meets a minimum age requirement with the most points.

Jun. 30, 2004, 02:24 PM
Ah! I had indeed forgotten...and I was the one b*tching about that very thing when this was being discussed, IIRC! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Now us "part timers" stand at least a chance of copping a year-end award, too! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I would be willing to sponsor (in addition to my existing "pledge") a small "novelty" award for "Master Horse/Mare"...perhaps a giant tub of some joint supplement or a year's supply of bute?! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif Seriously, though--something small and heartfelt for our much-adored "senior citizens", compliments of Gwennie and myself. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Jun. 30, 2004, 02:38 PM
LOL Lynn! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I would also donate for a Master Horse Award.

Jun. 30, 2004, 06:44 PM
TLE--thanks for the info!

What are the points calculated on? In-Area events? It seems like I should MAYBE have horses in there, but I'm not sure...

Jul. 1, 2004, 06:30 AM
Hey tle, thanks for the update! BTW, I'm an AA, you only listed the 'open' info, are Deke and I anywhere on the AA list? thx!

Jul. 2, 2004, 07:14 AM
Hey guys. Sorry for the late reply... was out "sick" yesterday. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

Anyway, I'm in the process of running the master horse idea by the area chair. Let me see what she says about adding it this year... then we'll go from there. No guarantees, but personally I think it's a cute idea and now that I have the USEA information (yea!!!), it wouldn't be difficult to determine at all! What age limit are you guys thinking? 15? 17? 20?

Alleged... points are only AUTOMATICALLY tabulated for in-Area events. BUT, depending on the level, you are more than welcome to submit scores from outside events as well (recognized only). I currently have no outside results... so everything is from Area VIII only (Rolex, Spring Bay, Winona, Mayfest, IEA and just adding Derbyshire to be specific). Other Area events will be added as results are recieved.

Ann... now that you've stated your AA status, you'll be moved to the AA list on the Rider of the Year standings (Open is for pros and those who don't tell us they belong elsewhere) -- which puts you in 2nd for AA ROY. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

As mentioned, I just got the USEA membership and horse registration info for all of the Area. I'm working (in between work of course http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ) on a more current list due to membership requirements... so the posting to the website might be a few more days.

Jul. 2, 2004, 07:47 AM
Regarding the "Master Horse" award...I think 17 or 18 would be a good minimum age. It would have to be old enough that people think "Wow, that horse is still going strong for his/her age!" but young enough that more than 2 horses qualify. What does everyone else think?

If you do decide to include this award...I know a few other people would donate.

Jul. 2, 2004, 11:09 AM

I received the membership & horse registration info from USEA and have been revising the lists. Since I initially shared, I figure I'll post what I know again. So far, I only have the horse awards done:

Deke is currently in 2nd on the Stallion/Gelding list, Mikey is tied for 10th. Rudy & Stoney are amongst the tie for 39th (last split in the top 50).
Gwen is tied for 15th on the Mare list.
annikak's Brian is tied for 5th on the Young Horse (BN-T) list.

I'll update the riders as I get them done (might be today, might not).

Jul. 2, 2004, 11:42 AM
Go Deke! Can we just end the year right now? http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif We've had an unbelieveable start, kind of like a fairy tale. Unfortunately we probably have only one place to go. Sigh, oh well, fun while it lasts

Jul. 2, 2004, 02:27 PM
Thanks TLE.

In Area, my guy has been 2nd and 4th at open prelim in divisions of 20-30. Don't know if that helps.

Jul. 2, 2004, 08:37 PM
alleged... If I don't have the results for the Area 8 events you were at, I should have them soon (either that or hopefully some of the riders who want their points counted will hopefully politely bug someone to get them to the area chair http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ). If you were at the events I mentioned I have the results from, if I know your name (email or PT me if you want), I can tell you how your points stack up. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If anyone is wondering, if you want to turn in out-of-area event results, I'd need your name, USEA #, Horse name, Horse USEA #, Event, division, place and final score -- and if possible # of division starters. If you're reporting on a 3-day event, in addition to the above, let me know if you went clean (jumping) on XC (you get an extra point for that).

Jul. 3, 2004, 07:05 AM
Is there wany way I can see the leadboard? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

(Is Encore added there?)

Jul. 3, 2004, 10:05 PM
Hopefully soon it will be uploaded to the Area VIII website.

No, I haven't received results from Encore yet (or Spring Run, or MidSouth or Lost Hounds)

Jul. 3, 2004, 10:22 PM
Ok thank you http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jul. 7, 2004, 07:30 AM
Ok guys. I had a nice long talk with the Area Chair last night and if you guys want to do some kind of Master Horse award and will provide the prize(s) for it, then there's no reason we can't announce it. So... ya'll have to make a decision so it can be officially added. The same requirements are going to stand for it as with the other horse awards... must be USEA registered to qualify (even if only competing at BN) -- it's the only way to get the information plus it seems to make sense to me as this is the USEA Area 8 awards. Other than that... most points for any horse regardless of sex over the course of the entire season with any rider - horse must be ?? years of age or greater.

I took the horses I had as of July 1 (through the results I already mentioned) and if we use 17 years old as a minimum, there are 24 horses so far that qualify (born in 87 or earlier): 1-80, 2-81, 1-82, 6-85, 6-86, and 9-87 (ages 24, 23, 22, 19, 18 and 17).

Talk amongst yourselves and let me know asap. I am making up a flyer for the remaining events to be posted (hopefully) near the scores so I'd like to make sure ya'll still want to do this so the Master Horse award can be listed on the flyer. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Jul. 7, 2004, 07:56 AM
I bought a grooming bag to give as a prize, in addition to my $$$ pledge. I like 17 for obvious reasons, although I think Stayner is a lock for this one already! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

Jul. 7, 2004, 08:42 AM
That reminds me... Anyone wishing to make a donation or sponsor a specific award or division, obviously let me know, but checks are made payable to USEA Area VIII and mailed to me (so I can track how much I have to spend -- WEEEE!!!! -- before I forward them to the Area Treasurer).

I dunno Lynn... from the results I have right now and if we keep it at 17 (which sounds good to me too, possibly for the same obvious reasons although I'll be lucky to get her to any event much less on the leaderboards anywhere), Mickey is leading -- and by 7 points over Stayner.

Jul. 7, 2004, 08:44 AM
All right Mickey! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Stayner won his division at Encore, which is why I was thinking he'd be up there. Good on them both! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

(you and me can sponsor our own "17 year old mare" division...I'll supply the carrots and Gwen and Char can party!) http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jul. 7, 2004, 08:59 AM
I think Char would love a party with Gwen! No alcohol though... it's not good for the baby. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I imagine Stayner will be up there for sure, but who knows who will end up on top. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Jul. 8, 2004, 07:01 AM
Don't count me out! Mickey is 18 and he currently has more points than Chally.

Count on me to donate, regardless of how we do! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jul. 22, 2004, 09:03 AM
Have received a couple more event results and figured I might as well keep you guys updated (I'll be sending another update to the chairman for forwarding to the webmaster after Gemwood this weekend, but the first one has yet to be posted so who knows when it might appear). However, a complete list will be posted this weekend at Gemwood (I just finished printing it).

anyway... the following information is current as of yesterday. All Area VIII events are calculated to date EXCEPT Lost Hounds, Spring Run and Encore (yes Champagne Run IS in there). Jul. 22, 2004, 09:24 AM
Fun fun! I love that there is a horse competing, and doing WELL, at age 27!!

How young is a young horse, btw? I hope to see Bonnie's name up there next year, but she'll be 5... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Jul. 22, 2004, 09:28 AM
TLE--Thanks you SOOO much! All your hard work is WONDERFUL!

What are these results posted through? I think the Pleasant Shade mare should have more points...she was 1st and 2nd at her two training level events.

Also, what qualifies Young Horse?

Jul. 22, 2004, 09:35 AM
Holy Cow, http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gifWas that a typo on My Echo's name? 27 years old!!! Wow! Wait until my horse here's this...he may have another 10 yrs to retirement! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jul. 22, 2004, 09:45 AM

I did some figuring of point and can't figure out where I went wrong. Ours aren't matching up!

For Pleasant Shade I have: 4 points for 2nd at River Glen, 3 points for 1st at Mayfest, 5 points for 2nd at Spring Run.

For Alleged Account I have: 1 point for 6th at Pine Top, 5 points for 2nd at Mayfest, 4 points for 4th at MidSouth.

For Anticipation I have: 2 points for 5th at Spring Run, 3 points for 5th at Champagne Run.

I was also 3rd at Pine Top on a horse named Sail On. There were 9 starters, so that would leave it as 3 points?

That, according to my calculations would leave me with 30 points! Where am I going wrong?

Please, correct me where I am wrong! I'm very new to the whole point system.

Jul. 22, 2004, 09:48 AM
My Echo is in the USEA database... so as far as i know that is not a typo. There is also 1 26 year old on the board. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Young Horse varies by level. We had originally planned to do 2 YH awards -- one for BN - T and 1 for P-A and we determined the ages by making the first 2 years of eligibility as the determining factory -- 4-5 years old for BN, N and T (born 2000/1999), 5-6 for Prelim (born 1999/1998), and 6-7 for I and A (born 1998/1997). However, I will say that so far (and thus the reason we only have 1 YH award listed) there are no YH's at the Prelim thru Advanced levels. All horses so far are 4 and 5 year olds.

Lindsey -- All Area VIII events are calculated to date EXCEPT Lost Hounds, Spring Run and Encore (yes Champagne Run IS in there). I have Pleasant Shade getting points from Mayfest only (winning the JOTA division, but because it was only a CT only getting half (3) points).

Jul. 22, 2004, 09:52 AM
thanks tle! Fun to read this and makes me remember how much fun I *was* having. I knew Stoney and MR would be chasing my tail and now they're getting ready to pass. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Fun while it lasted.

No problem! I enjoy doing this and think my numbers are right, but happy to go over anything with ya. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>For Pleasant Shade I have: 4 points for 2nd at River Glen, 3 points for 1st at Mayfest, 5 points for 2nd at Spring Run. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Mayfest I have (see previous post). River Glen is not in Area VIII and therefore not automatically counted. I need the division you competed in and (if possible) the number of starters -- I can get that inforamtion, but definitely need the division and the placing for out of ARea events. I have not received complete information for Spring Run so it is not counted yet.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>For Alleged Account I have: 1 point for 6th at Pine Top, 5 points for 2nd at Mayfest, 4 points for 4th at MidSouth. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Again, Pine Top is not Area VIII and not automaticaly counted. I need placing, division, and if possible starters and I will add this in. I have the Mayfest and MidSouth points correct in the database.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>For Anticipation I have: 2 points for 5th at Spring Run, 3 points for 5th at Champagne Run. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Spring run, as already mentioned, is not counted as I have not received complete info from them. I have the 3 points for C.R. in the database.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>I was also 3rd at Pine Top on a horse named Sail On. There were 9 starters, so that would leave it as 3 points? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

It *would* but I need more info -- in this case, if I could get the division and the USEA # of the horse.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>That, according to my calculations would leave me with 30 points! Where am I going wrong? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Hope I answered all the "missing points" questions. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Just keep in mind as the season goes on, that at BN-P levels for the Rider of the Year awards, only a max 50% of the total points can be calculated from outside area events (not that it looks like you have to worry... just thought I'd throw that out there).

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>Please, correct me where I am wrong! I'm very new to the whole point system. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

No problem! Especially since we revamped the entire system this year! LOL I think you have a GREAT grasp of the calculations... I just need that extra info from you for the out of area events... and of course, the complete information from teh 3 events I don't have and I think we'd be on the same page. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Jul. 22, 2004, 10:00 AM
Ann... how is Deke doing??

Jul. 22, 2004, 10:21 AM
Thanks TLE.

Ok, here is the information I have. For Pleasant Shade at River Glen, we were in Beginner Novice Junior. There were 10 starters, we placed 2nd. Hence, 4 points.

At Pine Top, Alleged Account ran in Junior Training. There were 11 starters, he placed 6th, for 1 point.

For Sail On at Pine Top, there were 8 starters in Junior Novice, were we finished 3rd for 1 point. His USEA # is 92197.

Hopefully you'll get the Spring Run info soon.

Jul. 22, 2004, 10:29 AM
Maybe we could make the YH divisions through 7 years old in Prelim? I know quite a few 7 year olds running around the tracks, one of mine included! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Good compared to day one, in fact vet is very happy. But if I were walking out to the barn and looked at him, I'd be appalled by how much fluid is still there.

Not only did I hate missing CR, but I was *so* looking forward to Hunter's Run as I haven't been there. Guess maybe next year. I'm shooting for Richland if we keep up current progrss, though guess I won't try to move up yet. I figure I'll just keep entering and play it by ear. I do hate these 4:15 am mornings for the morning meds and walks. For some reason, wouldn't mind it so much if I was prepping for a one star. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

How are points assigned?

How much does first place earn you?

I wonder if my one measly win at Spring Run will do anything??

Jul. 22, 2004, 11:22 AM
The whole system is written out on the Area VIII website (www.usea8.org (http://www.usea8.org) under Awards). Points are assigned based on placing and number of starters. Ie: 1st out of 12 starters will get you 6 points (and 6th place gets 1 point) but 1st out of 25 will get you 7 (and 7th will get 1 point). Less than 5 starters is 1/2 points. CTs are 1/2 points. 3-days are more.

Rider and Horse of the Year categories are calculated for any number of rides and levels. Divisional awards (ie: Jr BN or Open Training) only the best 6 placings of a horse-rider combination count. Riders MUST be USEA members and reside in Area VIII per USEA's database for Rider of the Year and Divisional awards. Horses must be registered and owned by an owner residing in Area VIII per USEA for any Horse of the Year awards.

That's the Cliff's notes version. If you have any specific questions, just ask.

Ann... glad to hear Deke is doing better. Good luck on getting to Richland. would have loved to see you guys at H.R.!

Jul. 22, 2004, 11:30 AM
Yes, I have another question...

I just read this on the Area VIII Awards page:

"In addition 1 point will be given for completing a two-day or three-day event regardless of placing or division size, and an additional 1 point will be awarded for a clean cross country run (must complete the event)."

So if I earned 6 points for placing first in a field of 13, would I also get an additional 2 points??

Jul. 22, 2004, 11:35 AM

Got the information. Thanks! BTW, the run with Sail On -- 3rd place of 8 starters is 3 points, not 1. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif However, Sail On will not be listed in the Horse awards -- according to USEA, he's not owned by an Area VIII resident. You still get the points though for the other awards.

I won't be updating the overall listings until after Gemwood (too much work to do on a daily basis)... but your new points are in there.

Jul. 22, 2004, 11:40 AM
BigMick, the extra points are for honest-to-God "3 day" three day or "2 day" two day events...NOT Horse Trials that take 3 or 2 days. As in CCI* or CIC*, etc. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Don't I wish they gave points for clean XC trips alone! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

Jul. 22, 2004, 11:52 AM
Oh Darn!!!

Well, I am happy to have 6 points for sure!!

I should start the "6 points and Holding Clique" In addition to a "Beginner Novice Forever Clique". http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jul. 22, 2004, 11:56 AM
So where is all this posted? Maybe I'm not the "sharpest tool in the shed" but I went to the Area VIII website and couldn't figure out where to find this.

Jul. 22, 2004, 11:58 AM

Jul. 22, 2004, 12:01 PM
slp2 -- You're not missing anything... it hasn't been posted yet (points that is... the rules, etc. are there). It is supposed to be on the website -- my guess is that they will post it under Awards, but that's only a guess.

re: Extra points -- actually, the extra points wouldn't count for a CIC because that is simply an FEI-governed horse trial. CCIs yes... I don't know of any 2-day events still in existence (CDCTA perhaps?) but it was in the rulebook so I included it. Basically it was to give extra points to the extra efforts due to the extra phases before XC. I would also include CCIs without Steeplechase in that category (as if it wasn't confusing enough already -- sorry 'bout that!).

Jul. 22, 2004, 12:16 PM
OK--so the current standings are not listed here. The awards criteria is listed and the year-end awards from last year, right?

Jul. 22, 2004, 12:46 PM
Exactly!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jul. 24, 2004, 01:33 PM
How is Karina English doing? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Jul. 26, 2004, 12:26 PM
Hi tle! I saw the leaderboard posted this weekend at Gemwood and noticed that I was listed in "open". As one of the founding members of the "Don't Quit Your Day Job" event team--I am most certainly an amateur! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

Anyway--whenever you are updating, please change me to amateur division. Or is there a "Is she STILL attempting to event?" division? If so, I belong in THAT! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif My name is Susan and my horse's name is Acapella. Thanks! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jul. 26, 2004, 01:46 PM
slp -- That is EXACTLY why I wanted to get everything posted. Unless people tell me (or I know), there isnt' any way to know what group to put riders in since there is no Amateur card below Prelim. Thanks!! I'll switch you right away. I just got Lost Hounds info this weekend and will be doing an updated list after the Gemwood secretary emails me the results (I was too tired to write them down after the event).

Jul. 26, 2004, 04:37 PM
Tammy, What ever happened to those neat news letters from Area 8 I used to get last year??? I miss them, Kim http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Jul. 27, 2004, 06:53 AM
The Roads & Tracks is still being printed, but only for COEA members. Jim & Paula did it for the Area on a quarterly basis for quite a few years (close to 10 perhaps?) and it was a LOT of work -- between that, regular COEA stuff and their new granddaughter, they were just getting burnt out and decided to back off doing it for the Area (while still happy to print anything that the area is willing to send -- as are several of the other local newsletters -- some of the leaderboard should appear in next month's issue). It was thought at the area that something would be mailed out twice/year and that the website and email/yahoo list would help take up the communication slack.... (but this is where I have to stop my explanation before I voice opinions that are entirely mine but not entirely popular http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ).

If you really miss the Roads & Tracks, membership is only $25 (I think as of August the remainder of the year is only $12) and you can get it every month!! Contact Paula at pywhorse@aol.com

Jul. 28, 2004, 08:36 PM
You are a patient and kind soul, Ms Tammy! And I bet it has been a mess- with Mayfest becoming a Ct and then my results (as well as a few others from my division) for Mid-South changed because of something that happened after the ribbons- how nice to come home to a ribbon in the mail *I think that ribbon cost me...um....400.00???* http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif!

Jul. 29, 2004, 06:53 AM
It's actually been kind of fun -- but then I've always been a numbers geek. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Funny thing is that I want to send out a revised Leaderboard but I'm waiting on (of all things) the Gemwood results before I do. We were all so tired this past weekend that I didn't argue when the secretary said she'd send them to me. I feel kind of lost because this is the first time in about 6 years that I haven't had complete results in hand when I left that event.

BTW, if anyone has the ear of Spring Run or Encore, I still need their information!! (All I need for Encore is number of starters)

Aug. 2, 2004, 12:44 PM
Leaderboards have been updated and are current as of Aug 1 with all events recorded EXCEPT Encore and Spring Run (anyone have any pull with them?). I've uploaded complete lists to the files area of the Area VIII Yahoo group (http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/AreaVIII/) but a quick glance shows me.....

<LI>Acapella & Pleasant Shade tied for 13th for Mare of the Year
<LI>Deke in 6th and Stoney in 9th for Stallion/Gelding of the Year
<LI>Brian tied for 9th for Young Horse of the Year
<LI>Mickey leading the Master Horse of the Year standings!!
<LI>Lindsey in 2nd for Junior/Young Rider of the Year
<LI>Ann & Morley tied for 2nd, Heather in 4th, Annika & Susan in 6th... Adult Amateur Rider of the Year
<LI>Lindsey & Matchpoint in 9th for Junior Training
<LI>Heather & Mickey in 2nd and Annika & Taco in 4th for Senior Amateur Training
<LI>Ann & Deke still leading the AA Prelim standings, Morley & Stoney in 2nd, Shannon & Rude in 4th, Lynn & Gwen in 6th.
<LI>Lindsey & Alleged are tied for 5th - Young Rider Prelim
<LI>Jesslyn & Tucker are in 2nd in the Intermediate standings

Again... any corrections, PLEASE let me know. Do NOT assume because the national boards have you right (ie: concerning ammy status) that I do!! Any questions? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Aug. 2, 2004, 12:57 PM
Awesome! Thanks for the update! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Aug. 2, 2004, 06:33 PM
TLE, another question...how can I have any points in the Prelim standings? Mind you, I'm not complaining, but we've only placed 8th and 7th...I thought points were only given through 5th or maybe 6th, regardless of number of starters? This confuses me with USEA points, too. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif Did a 7th at Gemwood, with 19 or 20 starters, count for a point and would this be true for USEA points, too? Sorry for a selfish question http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ...getting Gwen that one last point is a huge goal of mine! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Aug. 3, 2004, 06:35 AM
Area year-end points are totally different from what I assumed you meant when you said you wanted to get Gwen 1 more point (aka Grading Points). However, IIRC both depend on the number of starters (Char got a point a couple points for one of our 4th place finishes, but zero points when she was 4th of 5 starters). And both are also different from USEA year-end points.

The point you got at Prelim for the Area Awards is for your finish at Gemwood. Points are awarded thru 5th for 10 or less starters, thru 6th for 11-18 starters, thru 7th for 19-30 starters and thru 8th for 31+ starters... with half points awarded for CTs and divisions starting less than 5. (This is exactly why Encore's stats aren't calculated yet... can't get anyone to tell me officially how many starters per division).

BTW, I don't think its selfish at all! I'd love to get Char another point or 2 before all is said and done. I can't remember exactly how grading points are awarded.

Aug. 3, 2004, 06:46 AM
Hey tle, since you've already done the hard work of gathering numbers of starters, can we ping you to get hold of that info? I didn't realize I needed to track that for my local club awards. I know this isn't your 'job' but since you've already done all the work... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Aug. 3, 2004, 06:54 AM
Sure. Might as well make use of the work as much as possible!! PT me with your email addy and what you need and I can send you whatever I have.

Aug. 3, 2004, 12:43 PM
Thank you, that clears it up a lot! Yes, it was grading points I was thinking of--the term had escaped me. Gwen has 39 and for some weird reason I'm obsessed with round numbers and want to get her to 40!! It's going to be tough with my (lack of) dressage skills, but she shows no signs of being tired of trying yet! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I asked our TEAM points person to get back to me w/number of starters for Encore.

Aug. 5, 2004, 07:52 AM
Thanks Lynn. Let me know if you find anything on those starters.

Well, Char only has 3 points. I'd love to get her a few more before she retires from that level. Won't be this year though -- no reason to push for Prelim performance this late in the season when we haven't run a Prelim event in over 1.5 years. But she still has it in her. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Aug. 9, 2004, 06:58 AM
Hey tle! Wacky as it is--I actually found my packet from Encore. I have the number of starters that were listed in the program. Is that good enough? Or do the number of starters have to be "officially" submitted by the show secretary? Let me know if you want me to list the starters for each division. I know the results are listed on the TEAM website.

Aug. 9, 2004, 08:00 AM
I really need the official number in case there were a scratch or 2 that would change the number of points, but if you wouldn't mind giving me that information I could at least START off of that information. Thanks!

For those attending Hunters Run, the full leaderboards will be posted (somewhere near the scoreboard). I'm announcing Saturday and Sunday so if you have any corrections or questions, come find me -- although it might be more difficult on Saturday if Dave has perfected the wireless mic! I might be wandering around XC announcing!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Aug. 9, 2004, 08:46 AM
OK--tle: Here they are:

Open prelim: 17 starters
Open Training A: 23 starters
Open Training B: 17 starters
Open Novice A: 15 starters
Open Novice B: 16 starters
Open Novice C: 17 starters
Open Novice D: 18 starters
Open Beginner A: 12 starters
Open Beginner B: 12 starters

They only results I remember off the top of my head is my own (shamless brag here). I was 2nd in the Open Novice D division on a score of 28.5 (sheesh--that was a tough division I was in!) Hope this helps! Susan

Aug. 9, 2004, 08:51 AM
It does, thanks! Most of those numbers are high enough above the cut-off spots for points that they probably didn't change much. I can definitely enter them as "unofficial" results ... nothing is "firm" until the end of the year anyway. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

Aug. 17, 2004, 08:10 AM
Complete updated leaderboards are on the yahoo group file list -- http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/AreaVIII

<LI>Mickey & Stoney are tied for 4th for Stallion/Gelding of the Year (19)
<LI>Mickey is still leading the Master Horse of the Year (19) -- although chally is gaining ground! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif
<LI>Lindsey is in 2nd for Jr/YR of the Year (28)
<LI>Morley is in 2nd (20) and Heather in 3rd (19) for AA Rider of the Year.
<LI>Heather & Mickey are leading the Senior Ammy Training (19), Annika & Taco are tied for 7th (5)

<LI>Lindsey & Alleged are tied for 5th for the Young Rider Prelim (9)
<LI>Jesslyn and Tucker are tied for 6th for Intermediate (4)

Aug. 17, 2004, 10:11 AM
Thanks for the update! Just curious...how many points does Chally have?

Aug. 17, 2004, 10:17 AM

Aug. 17, 2004, 12:22 PM
TLE - my mom has become buddies with the owner of the Wise Choice tack shop in Lexington. He is willing to donate an exercise cooler for the Master Horse Award. He just asked that he be mentioned at the awards ceremony. I am going to pay to have it embroidered. He may be willing to sponsor another award. Do you have any that are currently without sponsorship?

Aug. 17, 2004, 12:45 PM
Heather that's AWESOME!!! I love Wise Choice (its where I bought my jump saddle). I plan to have some kind of program made up for the awards presentation. something that includes complete results (possibly pictures/details on the winners?) -- and definitely includes sponsor information (gotta LOVE sponsors!!!). I've already talked to Jim Wells (aka The Roads & Tracks) about doing it for me and it's all set!

Between you and Lynn, the Master Horse Award is going to be very proudly represented. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Thanks again guys for sponsoring this. I can't believe I left it off the original proposal, but so happy to be able to make it possible.

I most definitely have divisions without sponsors! Most of them in fact, although I should be receiving a check from IEA any day now that will help. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Most of the sponsors that I currently have are giving $$ towards sponsoring a division so it would be easy to work with someone like Wise Choice to possibly get the prizes for the winners (and I'd LOVE to have enough sponsorship to give something to reserve champions too -- just depends on how far the $$ goes). Karen Chandell was looking into awards for the Area Championships and I asked her to stay in touch in case we could work a deal that included prizes for the year end as well... but I honestly haven't heard from her at all since before Champagne Run.

I would be forever in your debt if you could hook me up to help get some really great awards. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Just let me know what information you need or who I need to talk to. Thanks so much!!

BTW, I didn't get a chance to say so at the event but you guys looked good on Sunday! good luck this weekend.

PS. It just dawned on me... I'm going to be in Lexington on Saturday (heading down to get a lesson with Cathy). I couldn't spend too much time but could definitely plan to stop by the store -- provided I knew how to get there!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

Aug. 17, 2004, 01:15 PM
BTW, slp2 -- still interested in sponsoring an award?? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Aug. 17, 2004, 01:40 PM
TLE - my mom would probably be willing to help out getting other prizes through Wise Choice. I would like to get your direct email, so I can hook the two of you up. I tried to PT you, but seem to have lost the ablility to do so since the upgrade (I'm not a subsriber, yet). Being new to the bb, I'm not up on all the rules.

Aug. 17, 2004, 01:55 PM
not a problem at all! And i would LOVE the help.

Aug. 17, 2004, 02:38 PM
Yep! I'm still willing! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif It's good to remind me before I enter more events and drain my checkbook though . . . . http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I'm thinking some sort of horse "ware" too, but I don't know how to go about getting it embroidered. Is there an official Area VIII logo that you use on awards? Or does someone else take care of that part and we just fork over the cash? http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

Aug. 18, 2004, 02:34 PM
Cash would be easiest as then all items could be ordered at once and possibly some kind of discount would work. But I'm certainly not opposed to people getting their own if they desire! Heather's mom is going to be graciously helping me out in getting some of the items... and the area chair is working on another angle as well. How would you like to work it? email or pt me if that would be better, but thank you so much for the help! I'm really looking forward to the awards presentation -- should be a lot of fun with so many folks sponsoring. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Aug. 18, 2004, 02:53 PM
Speaking of the awards ceremony....any idea yet when and where it will be? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Aug. 19, 2004, 06:43 AM
No. But I'll start heating up the cattle prod to see if I can get someone to commit to something. Would be nice to know, wouldn't it?

Sammy's Mom
Aug. 19, 2004, 08:56 AM
TLE--just pt'd you about Wise Choice...

Aug. 19, 2004, 02:09 PM
Looks like the complete up-to-date leaderboards are now available on the Area 8 website -- www.usea8.org (http://www.usea8.org)

Aug. 20, 2004, 07:15 AM
tle: I PT'd you re: award sponsorship.

Aug. 20, 2004, 07:22 AM
tle: Don't want to be a pest (but I'm gonna be!) I noticed that my horse is listed with 12 points (in the mare category) but I'm not listed on the Sr. Amateur novice or open novice list (should be in amateur but I checked both). Is there something I need to do to get registered in that listing? I also noticed in the amateur listing several BNT's and was thinking that might need to be corrected. Off the top of my head I saw Robin Walker, Cathy Weischoff (sp?) Dorothy Crowell, Sue Moessner, and a few other professionals on the amateur list.

Aug. 20, 2004, 07:49 AM
Ugh. Moron!!

Sorry, slp2, not you. If you look at the Senior Amateur Novice listings and the Senior Open Novice listings... they're the same list!!! GRRRR -- someone goofed posting them (I am assuming you're talking about the list on the area 8 site, right?). Anyway, I do have you down in the Senior Amateur Novice... 12 points, 4th place... behind Jan Hoover-Moyer and High Society (17 points), Mike Sekela and Messenger (14.5 points) and Jennifer Latronica (YR) and Jack of all Trades (13 points).

Don't worry about thinking you're being a pest! i'd rather have people question me just in case I missed something (it could happen) and get everything sorted out and be happy with the outcome. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Got your PT... will reply, THANKS!!!

Aug. 20, 2004, 08:05 AM
tle: I just PT'd you again! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Sammy's Mom
Aug. 20, 2004, 08:28 AM
did you get my PT? Just checking...

Aug. 20, 2004, 08:32 AM
Yep... just replied. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Thanks a ton!

Aug. 31, 2004, 02:36 PM
Just me again. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

Leaderboards were just sent to the Area Chairman for updating on teh website and were updated on the Yahoo group list. Up-to-date as of today (Aug 31) and include all Area events except Spring Run and South Farm II (and I just realized I goofed on the Training Championship points).

Highlights include:
<LI>Gwen in 8th and Acapella in 9th for Mare of the Year
<LI>Mickey in 3rd, and Stoney in 7th for Stallion/Gelding of the Year
<LI>Mickey leading, Gwen in 3rd for Master Horse of the Year
<LI>Lindsey in 2nd for Junior/Young Rider of the Year
<LI>Heather in 2nd, Morley in 3rd, Ann in 7th, Lynn in 9th and Susan in 10th for AA Rider of the Year
<LI>Susan & Acapella in 4th for Senior Amateur Novice Division
<LI>Heather & Mickey leading, Lynn & Gwen in 6th, Annika & Taco in 10th for Senior Amatuer Training Division
<LI>Morley & Stoney in 2nd, Ann & Deke in 3rd, Shannon & Rudy in 6th, and Lynn & Gwen in 7th for AA Prelim Division
<LI>Lindsey & Alleged in 8th for YR Prelim Division
<LI>Megan & NSD leading, Jess & Tucker in 7th for the Intermediate Division

Any corrections or questions? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Aug. 31, 2004, 03:36 PM
No award for the juniors in novice? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Aug. 31, 2004, 06:17 PM

How can we get the results from Spring Run included? It's really frustrating for me because I earned 6 points there, which would put my in first for jr/yr of the year...

I ride a couple of horses there, so if you tell me who to bug, I will!

Glad to see so many BBers doing well!

Aug. 31, 2004, 07:31 PM
Karina... No there is a Jr. Novice award. I just quickly skimmed through 10th place and didn't see a name I recognized. You're just outside that in a tie for 13th (with 6 points -- but 6th place only has 8 so you're close to the ribbons!!)

Lindsey -- I've written the secretary a couple times with absolutely no response. Their results are on their website which I can use EXCEPT they only list through 5th place. in most divisions I need 6th and 7th and don't want anything to fall through the cracks by posting partial results. It's easier for me to not include the whole event. I've also contacted the Area Chair, but she hasn't gotten them either. Don't know if the secretary or organizer is the one to contact, but I've tried and will keep trying, but not sure at this point what else to do. If anyone has any clout with Spring Run, by all means I would love some help. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Aug. 31, 2004, 09:24 PM

I'll get on that tomorrow...must be a pain for you too!

Sep. 1, 2004, 06:07 AM
thanks TLE! Gosh it's good to be back in the game again. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

On a slightly diff note, any Area VIII prelim riders who would be up for a team at MidSouth, let me know! So far it's me and shr, looking for one or two more.

Sep. 1, 2004, 08:29 AM

I am DEFINITELY looking for a preliminary team for Team Challenge. I replied to the Yahoo list as well, saying the same thing.

I think Deltawave was looking as well? Maybe she decided to do an adult riders team...I don't qualify, I'm only 17, so it would be lovely to form a team with you all.

BTW, my name is Lindsey Rairden. (Just so you know on yahoo list).

PT me or just respond here...opening date is soon!

Sep. 1, 2004, 08:32 AM
I wish Char was going as I'd love to be on a Prelim team with ya'll. maybe next year.

Ann... definitely good to have you back in the game too! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm still waiting to see if our local CTA is going to be SENDING a Prelim team. I didn't make the Training team, but that's good 'cause I want to do "P" anyhow! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif If they do send a "P" team, I hate to pass up the chance of a free entry fee and tack stall! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif If they DON'T, though, I'm going anyhow and would love to be on a team with people I know. I hope they let us know soon about our local team.

Sep. 1, 2004, 10:05 AM
alleged, that would be great! I just sent out an email and posted to the Yahoo group also with a 'plan'. (sorry to hi-jack tle's thread for a moment)

Sep. 1, 2004, 10:55 AM
Heck I don't care if you hijack it! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

However, one note on the current revision of the Area VIII leaderboards -- if ya'll have noticed the other thread where I"m asking about the JR/YR age cutoffs you may already guess -- I made a mistake!! I'm redoing the boards as it does affect about 20 riders. Oops. will be posting them again as soon as I get them done (which I hope to be later today but must be work dependent). Sorry for any confusion!

Sep. 1, 2004, 11:00 AM
It's not an issue for me either way, but had a question about your post on points vs. # of starters on page 3. You said "Char got .... zero points when she was 4th of 5 starters..." but your later list said "Points are awarded thru 5th for 10 or less starters" and "half points awarded for CTs and divisions starting less than 5." Am I missing something or do the two statements disagree?

Also, while it would be a lot of work, you could get the official # of starters from Encore if you ask USEA for the horse report on one horse in each class you have a question about. The official number of starters will be on the report. Thankfully, they e-mail them now instead of just fax. Or have everyone wanting to be scored to send you their horse report.

Sep. 1, 2004, 11:10 AM
I *think* "points awarded thru 5th for 10 or less starters" refers to year-end points, and "zero points for finishing 4th out of 5" refers to USEA GRADING points. That right, tle? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Sep. 1, 2004, 12:25 PM
Yes Lynn... that's where the confusion lies... too many things called "points!".

Char did indeed get zero GRADING points for her 4th out of 5 starters. However, if she were to do that again at an event this year, she would get 2 Year-End Award points for her efforts. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Sorry for the confusion!

and thanks for the idea on how to get number of starters. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks to the T.E.A.M. point collector, I managed to get the number of starters for Encore. Now if I could just get the 6th and 7th places for Spring Run, we'd be all set. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sep. 1, 2004, 02:52 PM
Ok, have reposted the current leaderboards taking into consideration the 2 things that I goofed on that are now fixed -- the Jr/YR age cutoff and the extra points for the Area Championship divisions. Neither changed a WHOLE ton of things but a little here and there.

<LI>no changes to the horse awards
<LI>Ann, Lynn and Susan dropped back 1 place to 7th, 10th and 11th respectively in the AA Rider of the Year standings.
<LI>Karina & Alex move to a tie for 12 in Jr Novice
<LI>Susan & Acapella move into 3rd in Senior Amateur Novice
<LI>Annika & Taco drop 1 place to 11th in Senior Amateur Training
<LI>Ann & Deke are now tied for 3rd, Shannon & Rudy drop to 7th and Lynn & Gwen drop a place and are now tied for 8th in AA Prelim
<LI>Lindsey & Alleged are now tied for 6th in YR Prelim

no changes otherwise from what I reported yesterday.

Congrats everyone!! Keep up the good work.

Sep. 6, 2004, 10:51 PM

OK, I tracked down Spring Run Resluts. They are absolutely complete...include all the placings as well as every single starter and their fate!

Go tothe USEA provisional calendar (http://eventingusa.com/competitions/prov_calendar.htm#Area%20VIII) and scroll down to Area VIII. Then find Spring Run (June 19-20) and click on its "Results" link all the way to the right. There you will find the complete results, and that way, can update the area leaderboards once again!

Thanks so much for donating yourself to this tireless and sometimes tedious job!

Sep. 7, 2004, 09:38 AM
(as I was saying/typing before the power in my building rudely decided to go away for 5 minutes)

I SWEAR those results weren't there the last time I looked. WOW! Thanks though for pointing that out.

Actually, the secretary sent me the information I needed so that along with complete KY Classic results that we've already received and I'm doing an update now. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

On a side note, I know the annual meeting/awards presentation is in the early planning stages. I HOPE all the award winners will take the time to show up -- not only to show support for the sponsors who may be actually presenting the awards but... well... my personal vent is the fact that many people are telling me that I have to choose awards based on their "mail-ability" because it will cost the area so much to mail the awards for those that don't show. That's just sad.

Will keep ya'll posted not only on the Leaderboards but on the Annual Meeting as I hear stuff.

Sep. 7, 2004, 12:35 PM
Don't mail 'em. Flat statement of "must be present to win" would cover the situation. Or require that the winner pay for the postage & handling, if they want them mailed.

Sep. 7, 2004, 01:23 PM
Hey, I have no problem with that policy. I have some nice stuff picked out and am hoping to do more (for other placings!!) via hitting up for more sponsors. If I ever even get close to getting a ribbon, you can bet your arse that I'd be there beaming! I just don't understand not being there (unless emergency, etc.).

But what I'm hoping is that a couple of the sponsors will want to be there to present their awards. I think it would add a nice touch. I'd be thoroughly disappointed if they did and the winners weren't there.

Sep. 7, 2004, 01:31 PM
Have the update done. The only event missing to date is South Farm (August) and I'm just waiting on their results. I even have Ky Classic factored in! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I won't get them online for a day or so as I won't be aroudn tomorrow - if the rements of Frances don't drench KHP we're going there to school... if they do, we'll head up to Hearthstone.

But highlights (through top 10) now include:
<LI>Gwen is tied for 10th for Mare of the Year
<LI>Mickey is 3rd, Stoney is 7th for Stallion/Gelding of the Year
<LI>Mickey is leading, Gwen is in 5th for Master Horse of the Year
<LI>Lindsey is in 2nd for Jr/YR of the Year
<LI>Heather is in 2nd, Morley is in 3rd, Ann is 4th, Lynn is in 10th for AA Rider of the Year
<LI>Susan & Acapella are in 3rd and Mr. Annika & David are in 9th for Senior Ammy Novice
<LI>Heather & Mickey are leading and Lynn & Gwen are in 6th for Senior Ammy Training
<LI>Lindsey & Alleged are in 9th for YR Prelim
<LI>Morley & Stoney are in 2nd, Ann & Deke are in 3rd, Shannon & Rudy are in 7th and Lynn & Gwen are tied for 8th for AA Prelim
<LI>Jess & Tucker are tied for 2nd for the Intermediate division award

Any other specific results you want to know, just ask!

Sep. 7, 2004, 01:38 PM
so there's tle! we've been looking for you! check your emails and pt's!

Sep. 7, 2004, 02:00 PM
Did I miss something? I had a few things from Louise. Is that what you're referring to?

Sep. 7, 2004, 02:46 PM
that and i had been attempting to send you a couple of pictures. not sure if you didn't get them or were actually busy, rather then just faking it, the way i am. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well, on top of "emergencies" are things like the job, family, other commitments and the fact that it might be a long drive. I'd very much like to come, but I hope nobody would think I'm a poor sport if I can't. anniversary or horses....
seems like a no-brainer to me! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif
(says she who is never planning on getting married! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)

Sep. 7, 2004, 09:04 PM
Getting married is simple...STAYING married is the tricky part, LOL! That's where all the "art of compromise" comes in, on top of all the other "stuff" we juggle. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Sometimes the horses find themselves a few places down on the old "totem pole of life", and banquets are WAY lower on my list of horsey priorities than say a clinic or show.

I guess I could understand the "you must be present to win" philosophy if this were an extremely well-established program where everyone knew there were great prizes and the date was set well in advance. I'd hope, though, that in the early years of this "new and improved" awards program there is a more liberal attitude. At our local CTA banquet peoples' friends and barn-mates usually pick up the booty for those who can't attend...why can't we do that for the Area awards, too?

Sep. 9, 2004, 06:59 AM
Lynn, I wasn't suggesting a "must be present to win" policy. I do understand that life presents it's own bumps to even the best laid plans. And with our Area... the most ideal time to have an Area Meeting isn't exactly when the weather is at it's best. Friends picking up awards for those who can't be there is fine by me. but it was just the idea that I need to select awards based on how well they mail that kind of got stuck in my craw (?) a bit and I was just venting.

Sep. 9, 2004, 07:11 AM
TLE - I understand your feelings about picking awards based on mailablility. If I won something and was unable to attend, I wouldn't have a problem with paying the price of shipping.

Sep. 13, 2004, 12:44 PM
Just a couple more things:

1- sponsors -- thank you to our latest sponsors -- Wise Choice Tack, The Equestrian Shoppe and XPress Foto!! If you want to sponsor/donate or help secure sponsorship (know a person or business who could help??), let me know asap.

2- Awards will be presented at the Area 8 Annual Meeting. Details are not to a point where I can give out any info, but planning is definitely underway -- and plans are to make the "meeting" a PARTY not to be missed. Can say more yet... but stay tuned!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sep. 13, 2004, 01:47 PM

Lani Gilliam (in the prelim division) is actually an adult amateur.

Sep. 13, 2004, 02:05 PM
Thanks LAZ!!! Will get her points moved. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sep. 13, 2004, 11:24 PM

When does the year end as far as points go? And when is the year end meeting? I'll be competing well into November...was curious if those points would be applicable or not.

Sep. 14, 2004, 06:58 AM
Because the last event for the season is mid-late October within the Area, the official "end of the season" as far as points go is October 31 -- meaning the event needs to START no later than October 31... even if, as like a few years ago, it starts on the 31st but doesn't end til November 2nd. The new year, which I will still be doing AFAIK, starts with events starting November 1 or later. However, all out of area points need to be to me NLT November 7.

The Area Annual Meeting is in the planning stages. The Area Council is meeting via Conference Call Monday evening so we should know a bit more after that as far as when they want to hold it. Members of COEA have stepped up to organize it and there are a few plans in the works but I don't want to say anything too soon. I will say that we REALLY want to make it much more FUN than it has been in past years (possibly including a speaker/clinic).

Sep. 14, 2004, 09:19 AM
Not that I'm encouraging point chasing, but Stone Gate Farm Horse Trials on Oct. 9 - 10 still has openings and stalls available and has extended the closing date to Sept 27th.

Sep. 23, 2004, 08:35 AM
3 events left in the season, including the Area Novice Championships but a full month of points to be had still (as long a the event STARTS on or before October 31, it can count... but I'll need the results NLT November 7!!)

Latest update is done and sent to the Area Chair. It will be posted to the Yahoo Group sometime today as well. some of the races are pretty close!!

<LI>Gwen is currently tied for 10th for Mare of the Year
<LI>Stoney is in 8th for Stallion/Gelding of the Year
<LI>Brian is in 5th for Young Horse of the Year
<LI>Mickey is still leading the Master Horse of the Year, Gwen is in 5th.

<LI>Lindsey is in 2nd for Jr/YR Rider of the Year, Jenna is in 8th.
<LI>Heather is tied for 3rd, Morley is tied for 5th and Ann is in 9th for AA Rider of the Year

<LI>Susan & Acapella are in 5th, Annika & Brian are in 6th for the Senior Amateur Novice division.
<LI>KC & Road Runner are leading the Jr Training division (but only by 1 point!)
<LI>Heather & Mickey are leading the Senior Ammy Training division, Jenna & A Day in May are in 9th
<LI>Lindsey & Alleged are in 9th for the Young Rider Preliminary division
<LI>Morley & Stoney are in 3rd, Ann & Deke are in 4th, Shannon & Rudy are in 9th, and Lynn & Gwen are tied for 10th for the AA Prelim Division
<LI>Megan & NSD are tied with Jess and Tucker for 2nd, and Jenna & Obie are in 4th in teh Open Intermediate Division
<LI>Jenna & Obie are still leading the Advanced division.

COEA is planning the Area Annual Meeting... hopefully we'll have some details (possibly even a date) next week. We are hoping to secure an Olympic calibre rider as a speaker for the meeting plus do a 1-day clinic the following day. Stay tuned!

Sep. 23, 2004, 11:37 AM
tle, since my last two events are out of area, can you point me again to what I need to do to send those in? Assuming I finish. LOL I'm sure the info is in this thread somewhere. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Sep. 23, 2004, 11:38 AM
Are AEC points going to count? Not that I got any, LOL...but Beth W. WON her T-Am division, woohoo for area 8!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Sep. 23, 2004, 12:30 PM
Neato! I saw that a friend of mine is in 4th in Novice and her mare is in 5th. Very cool!

Sep. 23, 2004, 02:28 PM
Ann, just let me know the Event, Division, Final score and final place (and horse/rider too of course)... and if possible, the number of starters -- but if you don't have that information, no biggie as I can find it. I need all out of area points by November 7.

Lynn... yes and no. Yes they will count, but only if I am told as while it is a high-profile event it is still outside of Area 8 -- and thus outside the "automatic calucation" area. As Karen our faithful leader said "we can't do everything!" http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif Beth's points however were just added per an email notification i received. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif GO BETH & WILLY!!!!

Sep. 23, 2004, 03:31 PM
Are you still doing the "best 6 results" thing? If so, I stand in renewed awe of the labor you're putting into this. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif We will have done barely 6 "official" shows when all is said and done, but I don't know how you manage all the shuffling and juggling for the "multiple show" people!

Sep. 23, 2004, 04:34 PM
Yes, for the divisional awards (horse/rider pair) only best six placings count. For the "of teh year" horse & rider awards, all results count. There are actually only a handful of people who have more than 6 events -- Victoria Frey, Jane Clapp, Alison Kroviak, Cathy Weischhoff... How is it done? Access & Excel help a TON as I can put everything in Access... pull out the award I want to look at, put it in Excel and order, re-order, and re-re-order to get everyone in the right place then just delete the excess scores... re-order once more and add the placings. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif But thank you. Hopefully others appreciate it as much.

Sep. 24, 2004, 07:02 AM
I appreciate you! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif You should definatly get the "Pointkeeper of the Year" award!

Sep. 24, 2004, 07:15 AM
Yeah, there's gotta be an award in there for tle! Number one volunteer for Area VIII? Since we all know this is not a paid job. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

I guess I will have to hunt down one of those buckets of margaritas and bring them to River Glen for tle. You'll just have to tell me where you get those, I've never heard of them.

Sep. 24, 2004, 07:38 AM
Aw shucks guys. Thanks. I'm enjoying doing it (a combination of being nosey and wanting to know how people are doing and as loopy as it sounds enjoying working with numbers).

Hey I can be paid in margaritas!!! No problem! "The Bucket"... I've seen them at Sam's Club. I *think* I saw them once at Wally World but can't remember.

Sep. 24, 2004, 08:16 AM
I've gotten a "bucket" at Meijer's. TLE you may be swimming in buckets! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Sep. 24, 2004, 08:21 AM
Sounds like a party in the making!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Sep. 24, 2004, 10:23 AM
Complete updated leaderboards are now posted on the Area 8 yahoo group files section. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oct. 14, 2004, 11:12 AM
Just FYI... I'm still waiting on the 6th and 7th places from Jumpstart but otherwise am caught up through Stonegate last weekend. I don't know if I'll be able to get them on the Yahoo group today as I have a driver's test to take (my motorcycle license) this afternoon, but I'll be sending them to Karen for the website and uploading them to Yahoo group asap. But here is how some things are turning out (looking at top 10 placings only -- if you have any specific questions, just ask):

<LI> Mickey is only 1 point out of the ribbons in 7th place in the Stallion/Gelding of the Year standings.
<LI>Brian is tied for 8th in the Young Horse of the Year standings.
<LI>Mickey is still leading the Master Horse of the Year standings. Gwen is tied for 6th.
<LI>Lindsey is in 4th place on the Jr/Young Rider of the Year standings. Jenna is in 10th.
<LI>Heather is in a 3-way tie for 3rd in the AA Rider of the Year standings. Morley is in a tie for 7th, Ann is in 9th.
<LI>Susan & Acapella are in 6th in the Senior Amateur Novice division standings. Annika & Brian are in 10th.
<LI>KC & Road Runner (for LAZ's benefit) are in 2nd in the Jr Training division standings. JFS's Kevin & Little Romeo are in a tie for 10th.
<LI>Heather & Mickey are leading the Senior Amateur Training standings (by 2 points). Jenna & A Day in May are tied for 10th.
<LI>Angle & Judge Not are in 5th in the Senior Open Training standings.
<LI>JFS's Kyle & Summer's Gift are tied for 2nd in the YR Prelim division standings. Lindsey & Alleged Account are in 10th.
<LI>Morley & Stoney are in 3rd in the AA Prelim division standings. Ann & Deke are in 4th, Karen & High Roller are in 8th and Lynn & Gwen are in 9th.
<LI>Megan & NSD are in a tie for 2nd for Open Intermediate division award... tied with Jesslyn & Tucker! Jenna & Obie are in 4th and after her WIN at Queeny Park Ann & Deke are in a tie for 8th.
<LI>Jenna & Obie are leading the Open Advanced division awards.

Oct. 14, 2004, 11:46 AM
tle - Should I be in Open or Adult Am?

Oct. 14, 2004, 11:51 AM
ahh tle, you are so sly http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I am still floating by the way

Oct. 14, 2004, 11:54 AM
I have a question re. awards. I know that I have some points.... but did not see my name on the awards page for Senior Novice. I am an AA. My name is Katherine Zapala - horse Arapahoe

Oct. 14, 2004, 12:02 PM
cinnabar... you tell me. Unfortunately since there is no ammy card for the under Prelim levels, telling me is the only way I know where to put you. I tried to assume in a couple cases and was wrong... so everyone goes in Open unless I'm told otherwise.

Although I did just get a list from USEF and do see that you're on it... so I can move you when I do the next update. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Katherine... I do have you listed. Senior Open Novice -- tied for 18th with 9 points which also carry over to the Adult Open Rider of the Year standings and the Stallion/Gelding of the Year standings for you and Arapahoe, respectively.

Ann you SHOULD be floating!! A Win at Intermediate?!! HUGE NEWS... HUGE!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oct. 14, 2004, 12:10 PM
Thanks tle. I can send you a copy of my card if you need for your records!

Oct. 14, 2004, 12:13 PM
okay, I did look and find myself on the open sr. board..... but I don't see myself on the Senior Amatuer board. Is there a reason that I am on one and not the other?

(sorry if this is a silly question, I'm just confused)

Oct. 14, 2004, 12:18 PM
Unless tle knows you're an amateur, then you're automatically in the "open" group. Unless you're at Prelim or above (where amateur status is officially tracked by the USEA and available to pointkeepers) then she has no way of knowing, so she's been relying on people to declare themselves one way or the other.

Oct. 14, 2004, 12:23 PM
Oh, thanks Deltawave.

So, TLE, can you mark me as an amature? Thanks.

Oct. 15, 2004, 07:28 AM
I'm not sure if you saw my last post, but just wanted to know if you could list me as an adult amature. Thanks.

Oct. 15, 2004, 07:49 AM
Yep, saw it. But was out all afternoon FAILING my motorcycle driving test. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif

I can certainly change your status to AA... not a problem at all!! Thanks for the update. I'm very worried that people are going to see the final results and THEN start clammoring that they are in the wrong division. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif That's my current nightmare.

Oct. 15, 2004, 07:55 AM
Thank you!

Sorry about your motorcylce test http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif

You'll pass it next time though!

Oct. 15, 2004, 08:04 AM
It's not as if it hasn't been WIDELY disseminated that this was how it was going to be done. Up here in Michigan, to spare the points keeper, we have to nominate ourselves for the appropriate awards. Otherwise how is anyone to know it's your first year at Training, for instance? (we have an award for that) Don't sweat it...those who kvetch can just get more involved next year. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Oct. 26, 2004, 02:20 PM
Well... the last event of the season in the Area is done... although this weekend's events would still count if turned in by November 7th. Debbie at Team Challenge was AWESOME and I had the complete results in my hands about 24 hours ago... which means that I have results from ALL Area 8 events!!! Thank you secretaries/scorers/organizers!!!

So I've updated my spreadsheets with the leaders on it but probably won't post a new leaderboard online yet. Things can still change but we're coming down the wire. Not sure if ya'll want me to 'spoil the surprise' or not. I could keep my yap shut until it's published "officially"... I could do what I've done thus far and just name COTHers in the top 10... or I could post the top 6 for each award. I will say that there are a couple tight races for 1st place and more than a couple ties in the top 6 that I've had to break.

anyone interested?

Oct. 26, 2004, 02:55 PM
your sense of humor is impressive, but I bet there are more then one coth bb'er biting their nails! Since i know that I am NOT one of the ones that might get a ribbon- I can razz ya!

I know you better then that! &lt;lol!) http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Just browsing young horse points -- Fox Run's Legacy should not be on the list -- he's an '89 model, or thereabouts, not a '99.

Oct. 27, 2004, 01:32 PM
secretariat... thanks! I'll make the change.

Oct. 27, 2004, 03:15 PM
tammy- just another note, Valkarye (ridden by Elizabeth Mares) has a ? under her age in the mare of the year awards- it should be a 97.

i must add a kudos to her as a barn mate, she moved up to novice this year and placed 1st and 2nd at her only 2 horse trials, both at the Kentucky horse park. she only got 2nd in the one, and not 1st due to being 2 seconds slow on XC. but 9th for mare of the year, and 6th for Novice amature and 22 overall amature is pretty darn good for only doing 2 shows! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif so here is my applause to her and putting her in the spotlight- i know she is a lurker here sometimes. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oct. 28, 2004, 07:02 AM
Thanks. The "?" came from the USEA report they ran for me to find all the Area 8 owned horses. There are a few like that (either ? or 0). Hope they aren't up for the Young or Master Horse awards!

Yes, very much kudos for Elizabeth! That's great!!

Oct. 28, 2004, 08:52 AM
Oh come on Secretariat! Fox Run's Legacy is young at heart!!!!!

Oct. 28, 2004, 02:51 PM
TLE - I'm not sure I can wait til Dec. 11. (My mom had to hide my Christmas presents at a friends house!) Will you be posting the results on the website?

Oct. 28, 2004, 03:36 PM
SLH -- and he's a super cool dude -- one of my alltime favorite horses!! But he's kinda like me these days -- no longer likely to be confused with the younger set!!

Oct. 28, 2004, 07:30 PM
How is Karina English doing now? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I have 13 points http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oct. 28, 2004, 09:21 PM
Sorry guys... not ignoring your requests... I'm headed to River Glen in the morning and won't be back online (with results in hand) until Monday morning.

Yes, Mickey, I'll be posting the results online... but probably not until after the deadline for reporting scores on November 7th. If you want to know before then, let me know. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oct. 29, 2004, 08:13 AM
I know where you're coming from Secretariat!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Nov. 2, 2004, 08:27 AM
Sorry for the delay.

Karina... help me out here. I am missing something because I only have you down for 9 points -- 6 for the win at Encore, and 3 for your 6th place at MSEDA... both on Loughnatousa Alex. Which puts you in 58th place for Jr/YR of the Year and tied for 15th in the Jr Novice division, and Alex tied for 109th on the Stallion/Gelding of the Year standings.

Mickey -- 10th S/G of the Year, 1st Master Horse
Heather -- 5th AA Rider of the Year
Heather/Mickey -- 3rd Senior Ammy Training

Must say these are NOT final standings. I've gotten a few emails this week with changes/modifications/additions and quite a few have moved around. Deadline is sunday. After that, then results will be final.

Nov. 2, 2004, 08:47 AM
tle: How was River Glen?

Nov. 2, 2004, 09:01 AM
need to start a new topic for that one (very long). http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Good and bad but overall had fun.

Nov. 10, 2004, 02:05 PM
Final Standings are complete! They can be found on the Area VIII Yahoo group site (sports.groups.yahoo/group/AreaVIII/files -- IIRC) and they will soon be posted to the Area 8 website at www.usea8.org (http://www.usea8.org)

Please note that ties were only broken through 10th place. Top 6 places in each category will be recognized at the Area 8 annual Meeting on December 11th at Hearthstone Farm in Urbana, OH. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you are up for an award, please either make the meeting to pick up your award or coordinate with someone who will be there to pick up your goodies for you. We've had a FANTASTIC response from sponsors and there will be lots of great prizes. WE want to spend the $$ we have on prizes and recognition... not on postage! In all seriousness, we may have to have award winners help with postage if you need your stuff mailed to you.

That said... Congrats to all -- it was a wonderful year! We instituted a lot of changes to the Year End Awards program and are looking for suggestions and comments to improve for next year. Like somethign? Not like something? Want to see something handled differently? Let me know.

Nov. 10, 2004, 03:53 PM
My horse is tied for 196th!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

We'll get 'em next year!

Nov. 11, 2004, 07:34 AM
BigMick -- hey congrats on that! Think about all the horses that didn't make it on the list at all!

Mickey -- you're welcome. And congrats again on not only the Year End stuff, but on the Training Championship win. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Has Karen contacted you yet?

Nov. 11, 2004, 07:53 AM
TLE - No she has not. I'm anxious to hear who wins the trips! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nov. 11, 2004, 09:51 AM
Hi, is anyone from lexington or the surrounding area going to make the drive up, and want some company? ROAD TRIP!
BTW, how were ties broken?

Nov. 11, 2004, 10:07 AM
YAY for OTTB's! I helped pick out 3 that ended up in the top standings!

KC got Roadrunner from Fairmount in November of 2002 as a late 3 year old.

Lani got Lord Alfred (2nd in Adult Am Prelim, won the Area VIII Prelim Champs) from Fairmount in the summer of 2001.

Jenna's horse, Tumble Dry, came from Thistledown in November of 92.

Nov. 11, 2004, 10:39 AM

Ties were broken according to published guidelines (lest anyone think I have my favorites http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ).

1. Number of 1st places in Area
2. Number of top 3 places in Area
3. Number of top 5 places in Area
4. Better Average score
5. Better Average score per number of starters

MOST ties were broken in the first couple steps, but one or 2 got down to #4 (none made it to #5).

LAZ if Frankie doesn't work out, I want you finding my next horse!! LOL

Nov. 11, 2004, 10:50 AM

At your service. I love track shopping. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif I've had incredible luck getting really nice horses for not much $$.

Nov. 11, 2004, 11:01 AM
Laz - I may be asking for your help if that's the case. I have been browsing the Canter of Ohio website for a new event horse. Are you located anywhere near Cincinnati?

Nov. 11, 2004, 11:35 AM
tle -- thank you for all of the hard work collecting, collating, and reporting the results. It's been a lot of fun watching the points accumulate during the year -- I think the online access is a major improvement.

For next year, I've got another category of awards to suggest -- "Best" husband/wife eventing combination. I haven't the foggiest how to characterize "best," but after meeting Mr/Mrs Annika @ Team Challenge I realized how cool it would be to compete with your spouse. TeamCEO would probably be willing to sponsor it.

Nov. 11, 2004, 11:36 AM

I'm from the Indpls area. Are you looking at Thistledown or Beulah? I've been to Beulah a couple of times without finding anything I wanted to take home, but have gotten a couple from Thistledown. That's no real reflection on Beulah, probably just the luck of the timing.

Nov. 11, 2004, 11:49 AM
LAZ... Laura got her 4yo last spring at Beulah. Cincy area has River Downs and is close to Turfway although I don't know what their season is. Beulah is just starting up. Thistledowns shuts down next month.

secretariat... if there's a way to determine the award (even if subjective), I'm all for it! IMHO, the more awards the better -- which is why I'm STILL contacting sponsors and looking into one or 2 special awards myself. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

But I definitely agree... Mr/Mrs Annika are d'bomb! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Nov. 11, 2004, 12:12 PM
Laz - at this point I'm just browsing the website and I've made a few calls. Not sure what track the horses near Cincinnati are at.

Nov. 11, 2004, 02:07 PM
Awwww... Secretariat and TLE- you all are TOO kind! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

But what about the best, most helpful and supportive DAD in the area? don't see many DADs doing stalls! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But at any rate, you all thinking that is an award in itself...thanks! Methinks he is pretty special!

Nov. 11, 2004, 07:20 PM
Annikak, I think I might have to second that "Dad" award... I don't think I've ever been prouder of him than last weekend at this tiny mini-trial when they turned up with too few volunteers. I was riding, but he stepped up to handle it for them no problem. The organizer turned to me and said, "Do you know how many of us would LOVE to steal your dad? He's great!" I might have to agree. I know that, had any of the big guys seen him at Radnor, they would have tried to steal him. And he's certainly a good hand at parking trailers for people at events!

Nov. 12, 2004, 03:25 PM
You can always tell when she wants another horse!!

Nov. 16, 2004, 12:43 PM
YEA!!!! Just go the ribbon order confirmed!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif 123 ribbons total!! Sheesh... no one better ever call them 50 cent ribbons. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif Hope ya'll can make it!
