View Full Version : Who is the REAL you behind the screen name.

TheBigLady
Nov. 2, 2004, 10:38 AM
I was reading one of the topics earlier. Yes... probably the one that is 14 pages long and COMPLETELY ridiculous! Someone commented about people hiding behind their screen names. He stated that very few people post their actual name. Just a handful - McLain Ward, Heather Dobbs. Some screen names are possible to figure out if you spend two seconds to think about them - e.g.)Chaunda Boylen, (I'm sorry if I spelled that wrong!) So everybody... let's come clean! Who are you? And PUH-LEEZ don't give me any of the stalker nonsense!!

Who are you, and why'd you choose your screen name?

I'll start. My screen name is "TheBigLady". I'm Sheila Burke. I chose "TheBigLady" because that is what I call Caya. She's "TheBigLady" of the barn.

Well, if you look at my profile, which has my email address, it is pretty easy to figure out what my name is.

But it probably won't mean much to you.

And NO, I have NEVER been in a television series.

I'm Laurie Pitts. You can read my credentials in my profile...

And, I happen to agree with the poster who said all identities should be out in the open. It is CHAT rooms that seem to be the problem with internet stalking, not BBs. I don' think anyone should be able to post the BS that gets posted here without having the balls to admit who they are.

Nov. 2, 2004, 10:48 AM
I'm Vanessa Waltz. Vandy is my nickname in real life. Hi Sheila, I remember showing against you as a junior, (generally you finished ahead of me http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

A rose is a rose...

It doesn't matter who you are, and you should take pretty much anything you read with a grain of salt anyway. I use this board as a source of entertainment while I'm on hold at work, and somewhat for information.

Most people in my locality who read this board and are acquainted with me in reality know who I am on the board. Those who don't know me in reality would not recognize my name.

Nov. 2, 2004, 11:56 AM
well.. my real name is Andrea, but since I was 9 I've gone by Andi.. when I show, at school, etc. Soo... that's why my screen name is Andi :P

Cindeye
Nov. 2, 2004, 12:15 PM
I'm Cindi Perez. Not that anyone would care or know me. If you look in my profile, you'll see some ancient info about me. Cindeye is my nickname from "Cindi with an I" to "Cindi with an eye". It's also my email address and domain name...cindeye.com.

I have no idea who the poster who goes by Cindeye'sEvilTwin is! Really!

my real name is jessica..you could probably find that out from looking in my profile if you really wanted to. my BB name is my horse's name.

Tackpud
Nov. 2, 2004, 12:26 PM
I'm Cricket Stone, Director of Riding at Chatham Hall, as most of you already know. There are two reasons for my screen name. 1) Tack up Puddle and ride = Tackpud in short and 2) Tack and Pud are both nicknames of horses I have owned in my life. I'm also Lydia's former trainer and yes she is dyslexic at times! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

chism
Nov. 2, 2004, 12:36 PM
My name is Khristine and Chism was my first horse, a bit of an a** in a lot of ways but I'm completely devoted to him. The others may come and go but he is with me for life

LaurieB
Nov. 2, 2004, 01:08 PM
I post under my real name, more or less, since my real name is Laurie Berenson. And there's probably been enough discussion of my books that everyone who cares about it knows who I am anyway. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The funny thing is, when I first signed up here, I'd never even seen a forum or a BB before. I had no idea that most people weren't using their own names. If I had thought about it, I probably would have signed up under the name of my favorite mare, Tess.

I'm Andrea and my screen name is the name of my daughter's pony when he was imported from Argentina. It means little fairy and he's the cutest thing ever.

Sundance Kid's owner - is your guy for sale? If so PT me because we're looking for another pony.

Baileybff
Nov. 2, 2004, 01:42 PM
My name in real, everyday life is Natalie Kimball. My screen name came from the jumper that I had when I registered. His barn name was Bailey and his show name was Best Food Forward, hence Baileybff.
My profile tells the rest I think http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif.

Nov. 2, 2004, 01:48 PM
My name is Charlotte Powers; many people from my zone know my name I guess, but probably only a few outside of the zone.

My screen name is created from:
PT- one of my horses; my sister did him in juniors, now I just ride him at home.
Deacon- a horse that my sister had, and then I showed in childrens for a few years.
H- for Happy, another horse, we've had him for a long time as well. My sister trained him and showed him in 1st years, 2nd years, and A/Os, and now I'm showing him http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
P- for Paddy, one of our green horses.

Someone told me a while ago that they thought the "HP" stood for "Hunter Princess" until they got to know me and realized that that was definately not correct hahaha.

Bailey, I love that song!! I watched that movie over and over and over, lol.

My name is Jen, and I'm a riding instructor for a LBNT on the GHJA circuit. I don't proclaim to know everything, or even have opinions that are all that strong. I lurk mostly, and post when I feel like putting in my 2 cents worth. I think it's neat to see big name people post here, and I enjoy the information many of the 'regular' posters post.

Edited to add: I don't own a horse, so my screen name is my 2 year old son's name.

Nov. 2, 2004, 02:04 PM
hey sheila! i think it's cute that you call caya "the big lady", and congrats on all your wins this summer!!

in any event, as my name gives away, i'm heather dobbs. i chose this screen name b/c i'm not very creative and so that my friends would know who i was. wish i had an interesting story to tell, but alas http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Even though my screen name isn't my name, it is my business name. So, in this area, if you do the local shows, you most likely know who I am. So, I don't really feel like I'm hiding behind a screen name on this board.

My name is Jana DiCarlo. By day, I'm the executive aide to the President of a defense contractor in Reston, VA.

I live w/my boyfriend of nearly 7 years and have two monsters...I mean, Jack Russells.

I specifically coach kids at the local level because the money is too good at the day job for me to do horse stuff full time. If I wanted to do the rateds, I'd have to quit what I'm doing and I do love paid vacations, medical, stock options, air controlled environment, etc. Getting off from work to do horse stuff has never been a problem, regardless of who I work for.

Anyway, not sure what else I should divuldge. It'd probably be boring anyway. But, there's me.

Calvincrowe
Nov. 2, 2004, 02:17 PM
I am Anna Linde, a know-nothing, perpetually green, sorta hunter rider from a po-dunk little Washington town. I lurk a lot, post a little and have too many opinions, which I wisely try not to post.

My screen name is a combination of, I am embarassed to say, my dear Calvin the lost and found horse and (red face averted from the screen) Russell Crowe's last name. Ok. That was not therapeutic.

Cinnybren
Nov. 2, 2004, 02:25 PM

BNH- I can't tell you how I feel...words just don't do it justice. I had a mid-twenties crush on him, following Gladiator. Gawd, I felt like one of my little 7th grade girls, "oooh, he's so manly!" I even found some of his more obscure, Aussie films. He surely did have a fine body. Nice butt. Riding horses nekkid in a film is a great way to get me to see it. Anyhoo, it continues to haunt me. If I weren't so lazy and forgetful, I'd change it.

Actually, stalkers have been known to frequent BB's. I have a friend who has to really protect her identity because of an old boyfriend who really does want to kill her. Do you think she shouldn't be allowed to particpate here anonymously?

As for me, I'm Diane Cicak and I chose my screen name because my "pony" is 17.3 hands and her show name is Honey I Blew Up the Pony. Although I'm considering changing that to Land Yacht.

Nov. 2, 2004, 02:50 PM
Lets see...Freebird because my husband is a major Lynyrd Skynyrd fan, and because it was to be my event horse's show name...only I never got to Event him http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif and really, I doubt anyone really cares who I "really" am, lol. Nov. 2, 2004, 02:57 PM
Well Picturesque obviously comes from my farm name "Picturesque Farm" and not a physical description (as those that know me can attest) http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Most of my info is listed on my public profile and if you want more you can always check out my website.

PlusTax
Nov. 2, 2004, 03:02 PM
I'm Kelsey Durrett, it's pretty easy to figure out since I have my name in my signature and I have my webshots page.

I used to be Kelsey D but I changed it because everyone thought I was Kelsey Duffy, then a kid on Towerheads sent me a nasty e-mail saying it wasn't nice to pretend to be other people http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif Sorry I have the same name as a well known junior rider! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

But I decided to change it to save people the confusion. My horse's name is Plus Tax thus my new screen name was born. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Obviously, if you have a specific reason, who am I to say you can't hide behind a nic? But overall, I think that you ought to own your opinions, especially some of the negative stuff that goes on here. If you say something to someone, it ought to be something that you would also say to their face.

lilbayhunter
Nov. 2, 2004, 04:04 PM
I'm Emily Alinen. Anyone who really wanted to know that could figure it out by using my horses name, which is in my webshots, to search the USEF points and find my name, so I'm not to concerned about security.

My screen name came from my horse. His name just didn't sound right as a name in itself so since he's small, bay, and a hunter, I thought lilbayhunter would sound cute.

Not like anyone would know me anyway, but I was always taught never to give out my personal information on the internet. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif My name is Kristie and I live in Hunterdon Cty, NJ. I ride in the children's hunters (and eq when I'm feeling brave) on my horse Marley (hence the name MsMarley). Just My Style
Nov. 2, 2004, 04:42 PM
My first name is Holly. The people who know me personally know my last name and I am not famous enough for anyone else to care. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif I showed quite extensively as a junior and now ride strictly for fun (what a concept http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif). I used to work for Practical Horseman and for an equestrian organization. I also do some freelance marketing work for some equestrian products.

Just My Style was my show hunter. I got him as a five year old and he is now 26 and retired at my parent's farm. My new horse is a draftX named Bentley (also called Fatty Pumpkin because he is fat and orange like a pumpkin).

jordiensyd
Nov. 2, 2004, 04:49 PM
My name is Katrina - and I live in the land of many hurricanes. Many days I wish I was back in my native VA! I currently teach music and am training my 4 yr old Clyde cross about being a hunter!

Jordiensyd are my horses names. Jordan was an 18.1 crazy thing that I had to retire last year due to arthritis. Sydney is my 4 yr old Clyde cross.

WinDayDän
Nov. 2, 2004, 04:51 PM
I am no one special. Helen Holman Arnone at your service. First BBname was Kylie, after my mare, second was shortys as I was wearing my brown shortys hoodie that I love, and now it is WinDayDän. Win is for Winchester, my new gelding, Day is for Kylie reg. Day Before Easter--super cute hunter name as soon as I found out--and Dän (pronouncing it as 'dawn') is for Dänzer, Sadie, my filly, which is short for Arftul Danzer but I put the accent to make it sound more euro as she is reg. aqha appendix. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Equestriana
Nov. 2, 2004, 05:09 PM
Well my real Name is Kim Macpherson.

My user name acually came from a Sim Horse game that I took over a LOOONG time ago called equestriana. It's just stuck with me since then. The weird part is that I started working at the PNE last year and EVERY year they hold a musical horse show (Complete with the Clyde ride!) called Equestriana. I thought it was really neat

J. Turner
Nov. 2, 2004, 05:16 PM
I never hid behind my screen name. But I guess some of us who aren't known in the horse world don't get credit for giving our names. (No offence meant to those who are mentioned above, at all. Meant towards anyone who posts and only mentions people whose name she recognizes. Yoohoo, there are a lot more of us out there. You just don't notice us.)

J. Turner = Jessica Turner

I used to be lorenzo153 on the old equisearch board. Lorenzo is my old hunter and he was 15.3 (and 5/8).

Okay, completely kidding. My name is Rebecca Ramaccia. Now nobody give yourself an aneurism trying to figure out which Olympics I was in...I was the one on the couch in front of the TV for most of them. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
I'm a nobody...but my checks always clear, my advice is sometimes sound, my horses are always sound and I run a miniscule (read: ridiculously small) traditional style farmette. Small lessons program geared towards starting the kiddies out right in a traditional form, small training program, small sales program. I'm also short and flat chested...so I guess I like things small. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Why were we doing this? It's kind of fun...but for some of the younger posters I most likely wouldn't advise posting your full names and info. The internet is no better than Times Square...lots of wackos out there. Us oldsters can take care of ourselves.
I don't know why people get up in arms about what's printed on a BB on the interent. At the end of the day it means next to nothing what anonymous people think of you. This is a fun pass time, a good way to share info and ideas and when it gets gossipy...well then do what you'd do in public. Walk away. Gossip is mean spirited and narrow minded.

<span class="ev_code_PURPLE">I'm Heather Christie. My name is also my email address. The "Simply" comes from two horses I have purchased from the Thompson's of Texas and their original names were "Simply Bling Bling" and "Simplicity". So, I am....Simply Christie!!

Penthilisea
Nov. 2, 2004, 06:24 PM
Hehehe
Ok PenthiSilea was an amazon queen who had the bad luck to catch Achilles' eye. So he killed her, dragged her body around behind his horse for a while and then fell in love with her corpse.
But I am unable to speak so when I was talking about her I always said PenthiLisea which I think sounds prettier.

My first name is Beth, and if you are from this area you probably know me because I either cleaned your horses stall, taught your kids to ride, groomed your dog, sat you at a resteraunt or went to school with your kids. Everywhere I go people know me.
Plus I have been at WAY too many barns (Summerfield, Snowdon, Blythewood, Wuthering Heights, ESC, Stone Bridge, Rutgers Eq. Team, Rutgers Mounted Patrol and so forth!)
I love to try things out and tell people if I like it or not- supplments, chiropractors, trainers, shows, tack stores, saddles, etc.

I have lots of bad advice and I love to share. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Plus my horse's name is Harvey aka Noble's Lil' Falcon- not so good for me. And I am getting married Jan. 2 so my name is about to change.

RHdobes
Nov. 2, 2004, 06:36 PM
I used to post on AOL using my first initial and last name, but I was warned it "wasnt' safe." So, I changed my handle.

My name is Rebecca Hamil, I'm a decent person, who sometimes says and does wrong things but hopefully, am willing to apologize and learn from those mistakes. I will be 50 years old next month and don't feel any older than 35; however, my body is trying to convince me of my age. I hope to try eventing again on a VERY low level sometime in the next couple of years.

My "handle" comes from my initials and the dogs I "own." (Hah! I'm THEIR slave!) I've never been afraid of stalkers (I'm not their type), and I've always told people that "if a stalker wants to show up on MY porch, he will be greeted by 5 Dobermans, 1 Sheltie, and a 25lb. Peekapoo." (Don't tell the stalker that the Peekapoo with the underbite will bite sooner than the Dobermans, bless their hearts!)

I doubt anyone knows me on this BB... yet. Maybe someday. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I am a dressage rider/lover, I lurk here and occasionally post, I used to do hunters. Hello Folks! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

sfrider
Nov. 2, 2004, 08:01 PM
My name is Allison. I showed my Holsteiner mare Camilla in the Low A/O Jumpers mainly in California until she started having some soundness problems last year. I bought a 4 year old that I hope will someday be my next A/O jumper. I also keep my 4 year old daughter's pony at home. I so very enjoy these boards especially since I am not showing as much as I used to.

I used to live in San Francisco, hence SFrider. Brilliant, huh.

My name is Peggy. Let's just say I wasn't feeling very original the day I signed up. You can figure out my last name if you look in my profile.

California native. Showed local shows in Malibu (Crummer Field, anyone?) and some LA County as a junior in the early 70's. Took a hiatus to go to school and grad school. Have shown HJ, eventing, dressage, and this year started showing HJ again. Have been active running shows on the local level from time to time. Teach chemistry at a community college.

My name is Ingela Kaersvang. At the time I first ventured onto the internet I had four mares, so I used Fourmares as my handle. I have a small boarding stable, Kirkcudbright Farms, in Woodland California. (Ya, I should have thought about that name a little more before I chose it... too long and no one can pronounce it.)

Kestrel
Nov. 2, 2004, 10:21 PM
My first name is Wendy, but since I have been stalked in the past, I don't want to post my last name. Since the quality of my riding in the AAs will never bring me to anyone's attention, at least not in a positive way, I doubt than anyone but our locals will ever bother to know who I am. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I agonized over a screen name for weeks, and finally named myself after the little hawk that frequently smacked robins flat in my back yard. I must have been feeling a little aggressive that day.

My screen name here is my future farm name, Nauset Farm. I got it from where my Cape house is on Cape Cod, right near Nauset Beach. I think Nauset was once an Indian tribe in the area, not totally sure though. I really just love the word! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

My Goodness! Some of us were sleeping at 12:43 AM, or were watching the TV to see the election results!!

My name is Kathleen, and I'm Sheila's little (sort of http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) sister. My screenname comes from my initials (pre-marriage) and hoya, because I went to georgetown and graduated in 2000.

I try to hold my tongue on the boards most of the time unless I feel I really have something of value to contribute.

I ride my retired horse Merlin for fun around my parents' farm, I'm in a part-time MBA program at (gasp) Syracuse Univ. our ultimate rival, and I work full-time. My husband & I hope to have a farm one-day to breed racehorses and I hope to one day compete again!

Will that do BIG LADY?!?

I guess my name is certainly easy enough as its my name on screen as well, but my first name is actually Kenneth, but have always been called by my middle name, so if you yelled, "Ken" I would not know who you were talking to. This past year I have become relatively nameless as when I work on larger shows with other photographers I am them...so sometimes, I am Lili Weik, sometimes Deb Dawson, sometimes Flashpoint, etc etc. So have I confused you yet? I certainly hope so. LOL

Pretty much all you need to know about me can be gleaned from my signature and my screen name.
Well, unless you're interested in ancient history. I learned to ride with WONDERFUL instructors at the St. Lawrence Univ. stables when it was the little red barn. John & I got back in touch at a show in SYR a few years ago. I rode with another inspired coach on LI -and Walter & I remain best friends; taught for a while at a couple of barns on LI (Equitation Lodge, Park, Babylon - and someplace else I can't recall); spent a few months at Burton Hall, outside Dublin, the same summer Bruce D. was there after being selected for the team; impressed George with a 1st Year horse at a clinic in KY; introduced jumpers and the 'children's hunter' division to SC when I ran Wildewood in Columbia - also helped to form Pine Tree Pony Club; met Appaloosas and showed 3 geldings to national recognition in that breed for the last 20 years of my show career; then got into video, where you'll find me now around the northeast.
That's probably more than anyone ever wanted to know - but you asked! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sleepy.gif

Nov. 3, 2004, 08:45 AM
Yes, delighted - back when I showed, I LOVED it. I'm disillusioned with the peanut rolling and the solids - but "back when", we had wonderful fun showing truly versatile horses. I had a student in SC who came to me, hesitantly asking if I'd teach her to ride hunt seat; that's what I DID - why did she think I wouldn't? Because she had an Ap. and only wanted to be a more versatile youth rider in breed shows. She had a 14.3 b&w blanket gelding with the "typical" mane & tail - who showed in EVERYTHING. ALL Youth (aka Junior) classes (showmanship, eq, reining, pleasure, games) and several Open classes, including the (in)famous Rope Race! And she kicked butt in all, but realized that more & more kids were branching out to hunt seat (this was before Aps added saddle seat).

My geldings were also pretty versatile. My last one, Jack, (and I) earned year-end and national awards in trail, saddle seat pleasure, A/O hunt seat eq, western riding - and my Walk-Trot niece showed him in that entire division.

The most fun we ever had, I think, was representing the breed at the Belmont Horse Fair back in '89 & '90 - parading in front of the stands every day, doing trail demonstrations, and leading the post parade for the race just before the Belmont on that Saturday!

What's the breeding on your 'favorite girl'? Is she a Wap Spot? Yours? Do you know Pam Horvath?

Delighted
Nov. 3, 2004, 08:53 AM
My favorite girl is my Fat Mare - I don't know her bloodlines, but her registered name is R Southern Bars. I have seen her pedigree before (and then lost it.. grr) and remember that both parents' names are pretty obvious in relation to Fat Mare's name. (My Wap Spot 2 horse is my gelding, the 5 yo, who is AWESOME).

I'm really trying hard to get papers on Edward, Fat Mare's foal. He's nearly solid, but has a few spots on a hip, so at least there's that. I really want to show at an ApHC show with one of my guys - I think it'd be super neat. I'm going to breed Kate again in the spring, so maybe Foal #2 will have a bit more color..

I'm actually Jennifer Rutledge. I added an ER to the end of a friend's name because it made her name into a name of a tool. She promptly returned the favor, and it seemed pretty damn cool. So it stuck, and then the hubby started calling me Jenners...So yeah. My maiden name is Shaw, which is why my email is ponyshaw and so are my IM accounts ('cause they're all old). Everything new is getting switched to this because, well, because I'm not a Shaw anymore and Jenners is cool! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm Jennifer Breslin, and i got my screen name from my mares names - both are 'time' related. i currently have 2 horses, a pitbull, 3 cats and an almost 9 month old son (future pony jock!) i'm a pro rider who is currently taking a break from doing a lot of riding for others. just basically riding my own 2 horses, and taking on a couple of clients here and there. I have a boring office job, which pays the bills, and lets me 'play' with the horses during the evenings, on weekends, etc. i've done a bit of everything, eq, h/j, evented, dressage, western. i tend to work a lot with the young, the green and 'problem' horses. i find that to be more rewarding. so there you go, that's me, in a nutshell!

My name is Stephanie, my screenname originated from my first horse, whom I had to give away in early August due to EPM (which he did not have, the vet misdiagnosed him, but it turned out for the best and he's in a great home and although he does not have EPM, he does have severe arthritis).

I'm an ammy, been riding for five years, off again on again before that. Luckily, although I only rode once a week my first year, I leased for two and a half years and owned my first horse for one. I've been frequenting various BB's for the last three years, over which time I have learned a lot. I've just undertook my first greenbean OTT and it's been a great experience thus far. I've had him since early August and I've learned a lot and we're doing great!

Well, i usually have my name and my horse' name at the bottom of my posts......Hi everyone I'm Carol, and my horse' name is Doccer (show name: See Doccer's Trip)

My credentials are growing.....I've completed Rider Level 1 and 2 and working towards Rider Level 3 next year. I've taught lessons at our local therapeutic centre, and am privately teaching 2 eight year old girls the basics. (more of a pony ride than anything.....on my 16hh horse lol) We're schooling 2nd level dressage and 2'6'' x 2'9'' jumping and x-country. I also manage the 'big' local horse show for our horse club, and was in 4-H ages 14 -19.

I don't live near 95% of anyone here, (in northern alberta, Grande Prairie) so i don't know anyone other than the BB. So, once i get a recent pic and find a scanner i'll let you in on the secret of what we look like http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif lol

HopelessHunter
Nov. 3, 2004, 04:49 PM
At my old barn, we would make up funny names for the hunter divisions at shows.

I always look back on those years with fondness, so I thought I would use a name that would have meaning to me and bring back the fond memories.

The divisions we would make fun of the most would be Hopeless Hunter (Hopeful Hunter) and Short Stripper (Short Stirrup). Those were my favorites, and I thought that the latter might be a tad inappropriate, so hence, HopelessHunter was born. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
