She took a few months off to enjoy the lovely upstate NY winter ;)

On her facebook page, it was mentioned back in December that she was doing well. I bet you'll start seeing workouts pretty soon with Finger Lakes opening in April. Hopefully she'll run back to her 2010 spring/summer dominating form and get back to some nice NYRA races..

:)The owner and trainer of Lisa's Booby Trap, Tim Snyder has been so kind to donate pictures of Lisa's Booby Trap (some autographed) to the R.A.C.E. Fund to help raise funds for racehorse retirement and rescue. Tim has also donated the horseshoes that Lisa's Booby Trap wore when she won the Loudonville Stakes at Saratoga. Her shoes are unique because she wears a hind shoe on one of her front feet. These items will be available in our Spring online auction. You may view them at http://www.biddingforgood.com/racefundbid
Bidding will begin on May 6th at 8:00PM and end on May 22nd at 8:00PM.

Thank you for your support.

If anyone hears anything about her, please let all of us know.FWIW, it was mentioned today on another forum that Lisa returned to Finger Lakes grounds about a week ago, and has been walking daily. It was also mentioned that Mr. Snyder is having health issues (plus two other horses in his stable) and can't do the work he was able to do last year. Hoping for the best for both trainer and mare..

Lisa was his wife who passed from cancer and "The booby trap" is the name of a club that held whimsical value to them.

As you know, Tim has donated some Lisa Booby Trap items for our online auction and he hopes they will help us raise funds to help other horses. Okay, my message went poof! I'm happy that Lisa didn't get disgraced, which I've seen more than a few times with other stakes winners who don't deliver in lesser races. It's heartbreaking. She looked particularly strong in the lane when she seemed to find another gear.

She has a new rider, Danny Morales, who piloted my boy to his only wins here at the Thumb. Danny is a genuinely nice guy who has persisted through some difficulties and is now being rewarded by being named on some really nice horses from some good barns. I'm really happy for him: he's having a great meet so far.

Now, to get my sleeper boy to the track....After a year and a half of carrying his big black ass, he was days away from being shipped in when the mud got the best of him and he developed an abscess. Never a lame day in the time I've had him, but now, oh yes, he's three legged lame. This is killing me! Please yingle for my Darna Dab!

I tuned into TwinSpires live video, and got to watch alot of the pre-race. She was full of beans in the paddock - was kept over in the stall well past everyone - was a handful for her groom jogging every pass of the circle. It was a riot when the "Call to the Post" went off, as she literally snapped her head around towards the direction it came from, and I thought was about to take her groom with her if he didn't get her out there soon enough!

When they did come on to the track, she was still full of herself. Then unfortunately after they went through the post parade, the cameraman focused on the #1 horse the entire time they were headed for the gate. (Don't you hate when cameramen constantly focus on just one horse, and it's almost never one anyone is discussing (during live commentary) or a huge long shot while everyone wonders what the favorite is doing!)

She loaded right into the gate, they took off, the 1 horse came flying up inside her...

...and then TwinSpires live video told me my computer was not handling Optimized viewing, and shut me out of the rest of the race!! Of course this is right after I just watched 10 minutes with no issues...

So I went to Finger Lakes' site, found their replay video page, and waited for it to show up to finally watch the race. Glad to see her win!

Victory today (7/11/11) in a $25k allowance (http://equibase.com/static/chart/pdf/FL071111USA8.pdf) - won by 2 1/2 lengths.

That put $15k in to Snyder's pocket (less jockey fees, et al)

My son, an asst. starter, texted me as soon as she won. She looked fabulous in this race and outran some nice company. I'm thrilled for her and absolutely hope that Tim finds a good spot for her at the Spa.

And, FWIW, the track has been a bit unforgiving because it is so dry and track management can't seem to find it in them to put adequate water on it (I drove through a lingering dust cloud when I drove backside tonight...). I haven't even looked at the times for other races today, but she laid down some decent fractions.

RussianBlue, I just looked at the upcoming stakes races at Saratoga, and the only stakes on August 1 is the Amsterdam. I think the Rachel Alexandra is run at the Fair Grounds in February. Do you have any recent info on Lisa? It even states on her FB site that she is running the R A, but I just googled it, and it isn't even run at Saratoga.

Per their website:

http://www.lisasboobytrapofficialsite.com/

"LBT will be running on August 1, 2011 in the Rachel Alexandra race at Saratoga Springs in the 7/8 mile race and $75k purse.

LBT is also looking at entering the ballerina race on August 27, 2011"

However that said I don't see from NYRA any so-named "Rachel Alexandra" race on the Saratoga schedule. [There is a Curlin Stakes on July 29th] Monday August 1st the feature race is the Grade 2 Amsterdam. There is no other stakes race that day:

http://www.nyra.com/Saratoga/Stakes/StakeSchedule.shtml

Maybe its simply an allowance race on Aug 1 misunderstood by her camp as being a stakes race?

The "ballerina" is the Grade 1 Ballerina Handicap on August 27th @ 7 furlongs on dirt. That is a Breeders' Cup Win and You're In race. I'd think going for this race - unless she shows an enormous back to form win in her next effort - would be dicey.

Here's the SAR condition book link:

http://www.equibase.com/premium/eqbHorsemenAreaDownloadAction.cfm?sn=CB-SAR-20110722-20110808D

Toggle to page 19 (of 32). There's the race: Aug 1st, 7th race, Rachel Alexandra, a $75K stakes.

I've noticed that smaller stakes like this can (for whatever reason) slip under the radar of their posted main stakes schedule, and this seems to be an example..

Video: replay $75,000 Rachel Alexandra Stakes (Aug 1, 2011) (http://www1.drf.com/replays/savedreplays.jsp?RACE=1954)

The Daily Racing Form:

Kid Kate’s tally in the Rachel Alexandra was the fourth win in three days for trainer Chad Brown, who posted the first Grade 1 victory of his career when sending out Zagora to capture the Diana here Saturday.

Lisa’s Booby Trap, who captured the imagination of the fans and national media alike when shipping from Finger Lakes to win an overnight stakes here last summer, tired badly from their early efforts and were eased to the wire along with Decelerator.

Another - Times Union (http://blog.timesunion.com/horseracing/lisas-booby-trap-last-in-spa-return/7818/)

The feel good story of last summer isn’t so warm and fuzzy this time around. The saga of Lisa’s Booby Trap, a horse with one eye, a clubbed foot and named after the trainer’s dead wife, returned to Saratoga Race Course Monday afternoon.

The 4-year-old filly, sent off as the 3-1 second choice, finished last in the field of eight in the ungraded Rachel Alexandra Stakes at seven furlongs.

Shipping in from Finger Lakes, Lisa’s Booby Trap began lugging out while setting the early pace and then did it even worse near the half-mile pole. Jockey Dennis Carr tried his best to right the filly, but couldn’t do it. The filly ended up being eased but did get across the finsh line.

“We’ll take her back to the barn and figure it out,” trainer/owner Tim Snyder said. “This has never happened before. He (Carr) said he couldn’t steer her, so he basically had to stop.”

A very disappointing and disheartening result, but fortunately no serious problems were the cause.. this was posted on her facebook page tonite:

Lisa is ok! Thank you for all of the concern, this was not Jockey error he actually did exactly what was needed to keep Lisa safe. She had a sore in her mouth from previous dental work that was thought to have been healed, he was not able to control her when she was bumped so he decided to pull her back to keep her from getting hurt. Although the outcome is not exactly what everyone was hoping for, the important thing is she is safe in the barn tonight and will be able to run again. We will keep you posted, again thank you for all of the support!!!
---------

One thing I just thought about.. LBT is used to running in short fields.. most of her races have been in fields of 6.. last year's turf debacle was against the largest field she's ever been in (10), and today's race (8) was the 2nd largest. Maybe with her blind eye and temperament, she reacts badly to a lot of company or bumping, especially if she can't see it..

Jock comments:

"She was getting out the whole way, and she's a filly with a bad mouth," Carr said. "I thought if I could put my hands down, she might straighten out, but when I put my hands down, she went to bolt. I had to fight with her the whole way; she never ran straight."

My friend and I were there and we were shocked and gravely disappointed. We thought she was hurt at first.

She has an issue with her mouth, evidently, which I had never heard. Plus, maybe there was too big of a crowd in the field for her.

I'm hoping Tim can correct that and that she can run at the Spa again. She was feisty and cute at the paddock--even doing her imitation Zenyatta dance. LOVE her! :D

http://www.timesunion.com/sports/article/Lisa-s-Booby-Trap-ready-for-her-encore-1605332.php

Looking back at that race replay on FL's site, I think the comment is pretty unfair. Morales had Lisa a close-up 3rd to a soft pace, and it looked like Morales started having some control issues with Lisa around the same time in the race that Carr did at SAR, tho obviously not to the same degree.

When they turned for home, Lisa had no kick in the stretch. And I seriously doubt Lisa was going to beat Tamarind Hall that day anyway, who was a powerhouse, and went on to win a stakes at BEL.

LBT returns this Saturday to Finger Lakes in an allowance against the boys..

She's listed as the 9/5 favorite, but I doubt she'll go off that way.. Toque has been exceptional all season (including a SAR win), and Ricoriatoa ships from NYRA after an Englehart claim a couple back. The 5yo son of Smarty Jones is a $237K earner...

She'll have to bring her best game to have a shot.

Quite the drama in the pre-race, the three horse threw a fit at the gate, jockey fell off, and they could not get the horse loaded. Those guys are brave! It took a blindfold to get him in the gate, though. Joc got on when the horse was in the gate.

What is a bullet run, and what is a buy in (like an 88 buy in)?A "bullet" is normally a reference to a very sharp, fast workout. As for "buy in", maybe you're referring to a Beyer, as in Beyer Speed Figure.

An "88 Beyer", for example.. ;)

Yep, that was it. And now I see why they were talking about it.

The New York Breeder's Futurity was why they call it a horse race -- next race after Lisa's -- the favorite's jockey fell off the horse at the start, Wild Cat Smile won, and the long shot came in second (French Wine). Not sure how it ended up officially, as there was an inquiry. Wild Cat Smile can run, though!!

It's on the Finger Lakes Track website, under horse racing, race replays.

They have a very good live feed and replay system on that site.

Race replay: Finger Lakes Race 8 - October 15, 2011 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU0Tb760X8E&feature=related)

In her two efforts in October the betting public doesn't seem to have a tremendous amount of faith with her not being the favorite. That's all good (the higher odds) for those who have stuck with her at the windows.

For her efforts in 2011, to date:
6 starts 4-0-1, earnings of $60,330

Let's not get too crazy about the win ;) It was just a three horse field (http://equibase.com/static/chart/pdf/FL110711USA8.pdf) - win wagering only - for the $16,100 optional claiming. Three vet scratches narrowed the field down.

I have been following and wagering on her all along and am very pleased that she is still running. True, it was only three horses this time, but it's a little more money for oats this winter. : ) She gets my HOY vote anytime!

I see Lisa tried her hand at the Presque Isle tapeta to start off her 2012 season.. seemed to take to it pretty well, with 2nd and 3rd finishes and 80 Beyers..

Back at Finger Lakes this past weekend, and stretching out to a mile. For some reason, Dennis Carr (who has been her regular jock and also rode her at PID) was off her and on another horse in the race.. thought that was strange..

Anyway, she went too fast early and ran out of gas late, but had enuff to hold 2nd..

I wonder if she'll try SAR again this year..

I saw Tim at the track last weekend and spent about 20 minutes talking to him about Lisa and life in general. He told me about the book and showed me his advance copy and explained that the book is about more than LBT. He's had a kind of storied life (he was literally born at the track!) and, along with the whirlwind of his success with Lisa, he's had a crazy year with some health issues that are resolving and a wowza! personal surprise that I don't feel is okay to share in a public forum eventhough he probably wouldn't care if I did. He also mentioned that there might be some Hollywood interest in his life story as told in the book.

I think Lisa looked terrific in her first out in almost a year. When I talked to him on Saturday he was pretty confident in her fitness level and she certainly proved him right!

Got the book from Amazon yesterday, read about 50 pages last nite. Yikes.. to say Tim had a rough and challenging time as a youth would be an understatement. Always so sad when someone who experiences up close and personal how destructive alcohol abuse can be, then turns to the bottle themself. :(

That article mentions Dateline will finally be running a LBT piece.. folks will remember they shot a lot of footage of LBT and Tim back when she first stormed on the scene, but the project was then shelved after the fairy tale fell apart on the SAR turf..

Joe Layden's NYT Rail blog entry (http://therail.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/06/05/the-rail-bookshelf-a-fillys-growing-mystique/).

Perfectly stated,

Horse racing fans typically fall into one of two camps. In the first are the hard-core gamblers, obsessed with speed figures and lineage and probability. In the second camp are the romantics, for whom horse racing is all about beauty and strength and the story behind the story.

Ordering the book now. ;)

Finally getting the chance to read The Ghost Horse. It's a great book. Beautifully written by Joe Layden. Fairly short book, and in no time am halfway through - could be done in one sitting for most probably, but time limited this summer! Just wish it could go on.

I wonder how she's doing? Not a good result at Presque Isle last month. :(

But this is a story that should be made on the big screen. Well written. Characters with some merit. Not Snowman, IMHO. (Well, the horse has some, not so sure about those surrounding him.)

Dateline NBC originally filmed a special about Lisa and Snyder in 2010 when she burst on the scene at Finger Lakes, and then won her small stakes at Saratoga, but it was shelved when she followed it up with that turf debacle. Since then they've been back to film updates in the hopes of finally airing the story, but Lisa's continued setbacks have kept it on the shelf.

Lisa was reportedly to be retired and bred this past winter.. she's been unable to stay on the track for the past couple years other than a few starts in the spring. Snyder then reconsidered, and she's back on the training track as a 7yo.

Dateline came back to Finger Lakes to finally cap their story as Lisa attempts one more comeback. The show will air tonight, Sunday, at 8pm ET on NBC.

Here's a howler from that article:

Consider for a moment that Zenyatta, arguably the great- est filly in history, stood 17.2 hands high, and was considered an absolute beast—physiologically on par with the top male horses of her generation. Secretariat, known colloquially as “Big Red,” stood 16.2 hands high. At 17.5 hands, Lisa was taller than either of those horses, taller in fact than just about any horse.

The enthusiastic writer forgot that a hand is only is only 4 inches.

Any reason why she wasn't bred? I'd love to see her pass on that great heart.Just speculation on my part, but I think she's been doing well and they just wanted one last hurrah for her on the track. Finger Lakes analyst Dave Mattice made the comment on their handicapping show that she would be bred upon completion of this season (whatever that amounts to), and that her connections were looking strongly at Freud as a possible stud.
