Freebie race program for Saturday, 4/2:

Race comments:

6 ST ELMO HERO will payoff at the lowest rate on the program if he wins his 25th start to keep the unbeaten streak alive. The reported explanation for his scratch
from the Cam Fella Stakes was that he was sick. A more recent report indicated that he had a quarter crack problem during the time off. I’m not going to select
one of the others to upset but might play against on race night depending on observations at that time. What price is going to be too low for your needs? We don’t
often get to see a pacer with a win streak like he has that race in the higher categories. I was fortunate to witness both Bret Hanover and Cam Fella when they
were doing the same thing. I’ll hope that he keeps the streak alive.

A very tough week for 'Elmo' connections and the Chicagoland racing community.

Michelle Eustis, daughter of 'Elmo' trainer, Chuck Eustis III, was killed earlier in the week by a drunk driver at Balmoral Park's backstretch.

How terrible. How does something like that even happen?

Not just A drunk driver --- but her boyfriend, Angus Lake.
She had racing Sunday night(4-10); then partied the rest of the early morning.

Coming 5am, she and her groom, Heather French, were riding double bareback when(a very drunk) Agnus ran into them with his truck-- Killing Michelle, and putting Heather in the hospital with a broken leg. The horse will be ok.

He was remanded to jail on (an immediate) 5 counts including vehicular manslaughter, and DUI's (of course).

Heather has been going to school, studying to be a vet tech.
Condolences to the Eustis family, and those close to Michelle, and prayers for a speedy recovery to Heather.

laserBob, you posted this story last Monday over in Off Course...

Very sad for this family. Michelles own racers had been doing very well recently, and life seemed to be getting on a very good track recently. Just a shame --- a true tragedy.

some updated stories

Funeral for Michelle tomorrow. Trainers at Balmoral are pledging funds for her daughter Haylee --- amazing how the racing communities come together.

St Elmo Hero finished his last race missing a shoe which Jamieson reported to the judges after the race. The charted line has been amended to reflect this by showing BE (broken equipment) as part of the line

Too bad he lost a shoe at the start of last weeks race because tonite he simply ran away from a small, but stellar group. He avenged that nose loss to Art Professor.

He won for fun.
