The owners of the 2005 Fl. Derby winner have taken him out of circulation following a lukewarm reception from breeders and get who failed to impress on the track. They took the additional - and IMO, thoughtful - step of having brain surgery performed on Atticus' son. Now he can mingle in amongst the herd, instead facing a solo and frustrated existence. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/61367/high-fly-pensioned-then-gelded

I am very pleased that the Webers have considered the horse's welfare FIRST. Sure, he's got a pedigree that would appeal to some backyard breeder somewhere - someone with romantic dreams of getting the ONE superstar runner from a sire most would consider a failure. He could have ended his days unpleasantly, for sure.

But now this one-time Triple Crown Trail leader and 3YO superstar is gonna have one looong, sweet retirement. Nothing to do but eat and socialize with buddies all day.

Live Oak gets two thumbs up from me.
