Two Equine Reproduction Workshops will be held this spring at Virginia Tech’s Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension (MARE) Center in Middleburg, Virginia.

The Mare and Stallion – covers anatomy and physiology, breeding management of the mare, hormone therapy, artificial insemination, stallion collection and semen processing, pregnant mare care, nutrition, and selection of breeding stock. This two day workshop will include both classroom and wet-lab sessions at a cost of $300, or participants may enroll in the one-day lecture portion only for $150. Dates for the sessions are February 19 and 20, 2011.

Foaling and Neonatal Care – covers care of the late-term mare, indicators of foaling, normal foaling, overview of obstetrics, neonatal care, complications of pregnancy and foaling, care of the postpartum mare and foal abnormalities and diseases. This will be a day long course split equally between lecture and laboratory sessions. This session will be held on March 5 at a cost of $200.00
