I was kind of lucky when I bought my snaffle. It's actually a bradoon because the large rings look funny on my horse's small face. It's also a 14mm thickness instead of the standard 16mm for a snaffle. I remember when I went to Dover they were certain that Herm Sprenger didn't make a bradoon of that width in the length I needed (I think the length is 5 and 1/4 although it could be 5 and 1/2 if I'm not measuring it right, I can't remember what it was when I got it) and from somewhere the clerk found just this last one left.

Except now my horse is in the double and I do a lot of alternate schooling between the double and snaffle and I would like to buy another one of these bits so I don't have to keep switching. Does anyone have any idea where I can look? One wouldn't think this is a special bit but because it's a single joint and not many people use single joints any more, it does seem to be hard to find in the dimensions I need.

And also what is the proper way to measure the length of a loose ring? Is it from the inner edges of the holes or is it to the edge of the ring?

Thanks. I don't see it there but they do have an S shaped curb I'm drooling over. If only I had $380....

Smartpak?

Measure from the inside edge of the rings.

lots of places have the bit--smart pak for example (it's on the page below the bit in the link above):

That seems to be a 16mm though and I'm pretty sure mine is a 14mm.

from the smartpak ad:

<< The Herm Sprenger KK Ultra Aurigan Bradoon is offered in mouth sizes 5", 5 1/4", 5 3/4", 6 1/8". 55mm stainless steel rings. 14mm thickness."

most bradoons are 14 mm...

You're looking at the ultra. I'm looking at the single-jointed one.

Look at the HS Turnado from SmartPak (see first link posted). It's a single-joint 14mm bradoon. Nice bit.

Isn't that bit gorgeous? I think they say it was made from an antique pattern

The OP called it a KK bit, and I think that is why she can't find it. If I am not mistaken all of Sprenger's KK model bits are double jointed.

Just go check on 'herm sprenger' website:

http://www.sprenger.de

and order from one of the dealer near you!

My local good tack store was able to pull the catolog and special order from Sprenger for Mr too small for two bits

Visit or call a local tack store that stocks Sprenger and ask them to check and order one in.
