View Full Version : Need new or used elasticized girth suggestions, like Otto Schumacher but less $$$

I have 3 Otto Schumacher that I use on my big horses that I love, love, love! In the states they are $200ish, and I really don't want to pay anywhere near that price for a new little girth. I really like the quality, craftsmanship, shape, and strech of these OS girths.

What I need is a new or used 22"-24" elasticized leather girth. I prefer contoured, but the stretchiness in the elastic is what I am mainly looking for. I have two super nice high quality leather contoured ones from ebay, but they are just not as stretchy as I prefer.

Can anyone recommend one, or does anyone have a 22"-24" that they would like to part with?

These are what I've used for years - at this price they hold up well and can be thrown in the washing machine or just hosed off after the ride and left to drip dry (made by Thornhill).

An all elastic version (I've never used):

Ovation makes a similar girth but the vinyl under the roller buckles is not "long" enough and thus the buckles can end up on the horses sides instead of having a vibyl backing protecting the horse from chafing.

I've always used the Wintec elasticized girths, with the elastic in the center of the girth (hidden).

I have this one from SmartPak (http://www.smartpakequine.com/ProductClass.aspx?productclassid=6116&cm_vc=Search) and really like it. It is comparable to the Wintec but less money.
