Just in for my consideration-what about this little lady? 3 coming 4yo, almost 16.3h and raced 3 times....
Do we let a hussy in the frat house?

I love her. What is your goal for her? Heavy competition? Definitely vet her ankles as 16.3 is big and she's a big girl and if she raced she may have some minor things going on there.

I like her a lot, and you know I think mares can be great. Plus, if she is well bred/built, you could always breed her if she didn't work out for you. She looks to be in good shape - how long has she been off the track? I can't see the ankles well enough to have an opinion on that . . .

I know people think I am weird for this, but I was actually LOOKING for a mare. I love mares, and it took finding my boy to even consider a gelding, so I don't think one should ever rule out a horse because of sex, unless of course you are looking for a broodmare.
I think she's great, if I didn't just buy a horse I would steal her from you too.

Unfortunately because many people don't want to deal with that one week a month "chance of thunderstorms" if you know what I mean, many people are biased against mares- including myself until I got my girl!
If you can find a sweet mare, there's nothing like them...Unfortunately they're much harder to find than a sweet gelding.
LMH get your butt out there to look, I'm telling you she looks just like Grace and that's a good thing http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I would look at her if I needed two and you decided not to! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

PLEASE!!!!!!! Go look at her! She is a tank of a girl and I LOVE mares. If you find a nice, sweet mare, you have it MADE! Please please please consider her. The ankles are kind of hard to see because of shadows and angles. Have her vetted, bring her home and then update us with pics of you and her competing, then, later, her first baby. (Look out though, breeding is addictive) Even if you do not want to eventually breed her...PLEASE give the filly a look-see. I love her.

LMH, she is fantastic! A really nice, balanced overall picture. I don't see any issue with her ankles, they look perfectly normal to me.
I have a filly and a gelding. When I bought the filly last year, I had been looking for a gelding, didn't want a mare. Go figure... got my mare, and while she can be challenging, she has been great fun and incredibly rewarding. When I bought my gelding this month, I was really wishing I could find another mare. He's more predictable and very sweet, but doesn't have nearly as much personality as my girl.
Plus, at just coming 4, she's going to grow a bit more still... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Go look at her!!!

LMH, I think she is LOVELY. I don't see anything wrong with her ankles, and you know how I am about ankles. I do wish her neck was set on 2" higher, but I can live with where it is http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Especially since she'll change shape when she gets a topline.
Do let us know how she vets!
Saddith
Dec. 31, 2003, 10:32 AM
First off, she has great balance. Overall she presents a very proportionate picture.
Her eyes do it for me - kind yet that look of eagles... she will be a handful at times I am guessing. But seems to have a good heart underneath.
I really like her gaskin area. First place I look for power. She seems a bit weak through the loins and croup, but her short back will help with that. I like how her neck ties into her wither, although it ties in a little low to her chest... but not bad. It has decent length and her head is a classic TB beautiful head. Her shoulder is a tad straight, and I can't tell much about toeing out, although the left front may alittle... and the back ones look OK. I definitely would look at those ankles... the do look a little puffy to me but that could just be the photos.
Overall, I would buy her if she vetted. She looks kind and athletic. Have you met her in person? To see what her personality and movement is like truly? Sometimes the big ones can be clunky...
LMH
Dec. 31, 2003, 10:37 AM
Saddith-thanks for the observations http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I have spoken with the vet twice and the trainer over the ankles and both swear it must be the pics-the vet said she is in good proportions and know swellings or signs of "jewelry"
As he is the vet that I turned one down on for a bad tendon, he knows I am a leg FREAK--I can't imagine he would suggest her to only have to say she is not going to work...I have to go on trust here I think. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Well, if you get a good vibe from both people - go for it!! Where is she located, when is she coming home and when can we expect pics??
Is it time to get a little more excited? The vet has looked at her already then? Did they do any xrays?
LMH
Dec. 31, 2003, 10:50 AM
I think we can get a weeeeee bit excited. She actually is living with this vet and his broodmares...has been since two months.
He has been her vet since last year so he has her complete history. He HATES prepuchase exams and HATES when he knows the seller and is rep-ing the buyer...well I was laughing because he called ME about her-I told him "Dr you are the ONLY vet I know there as you did my last vetting-so you are in the middle and you did it to yourself http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif
Anyway, I asked if he had ever flexed her-he said not recently so he will go do. I of course told him I should not expect a farm call since he just has to walk outside to vet her! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif
Of course xrays "could" show something. I have received so many mixed opinions on xrays--especially at her age and pitiful racing attempts.... http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif I just don't know but must decide by this afternoon.
Oh she is located in IL---anyone wanna bring her to me?

Hi LMH
Obviously, she was slow because the ring was shaped funny and she couldn't tell where the fences were!
Seriously, she's nice! I love mares myself - show me two identical talented horses, one a mare and one a gelding, and I'll look at the gelding and say, yeah, he's ok I guess, and I'll see the mare and try to figure out how to spirit her into the trailer so I can make off with her!
A good mare is the best possible world (IMHO).
With the small pictures, I was a little concerned that maybe her neck was set on a bit low, but I don't think so at all now that I've looked at the larger pictures.
You guys with all your OTTBs are really getting me thinking more and more of going the TB route when I do decide to get another horse (I should emphasize an additional horse!), even if I do compete in dressage, and have really enjoyed my SWB (ahem, who is actually half TB).
Fingers crossed on the vetting!!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

YAY!
So your journey had an unexpected destination. I think it was fun for all, even those of us who did it vicariously.
Welcome to the mare club! You'll love it. Mares are great...I saw your post on the Sporthorse BB...already thinking of breeding her someday? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif See--mares can multitask!
So, what will her barn name be? My suggestion: Marlee
She looks just beautiful...any idea when you will actually get her?

So, are you already thinking of breeding her in the future? Look into the TB mare piolot program with the ATA. (http://americantrakehner.com/)

YIIPPPPPEEEEEEEE http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif That is sooo exciting - I'm so glad you found one that makes your heart do flips (and she must if you are getting a GIRL http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) . She is just gorgeous and I will definitely have to come see when she gets to GA. How very very exciting - I've always found and believed that when you bond with a mare, she'll try soooo hard for you, so I hope that turns out to be the case with this one too. She just looks like a show horse.
What a great way to start 2004 - I am so excited for you!!
Does she have a barn name yet???

What Madison says is true, when mares bond, they bond and they will do anything for you. my mare and I are so close, sometimes it scares my hubby. She takes care of me like I am her filly, if that doesn't sound too silly.

I honestly can't remember, but he wasn't listed on pedigree query (I remembered part of the dam's name). Anyway, I'm here to tell you he was cuter than Robbie... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
Still, I put Rivers in the back barn, and there were only 2 horses in it (24 stalls). One breeding stallion and one layup with a stunning looking head and great body (blood bay, not a lick of white). I sauntered up to him and thought how much better he would look in hunter tack than racing tack http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif and noticed who his sire was... Tell me that wasn' t like some sort of karma? Then the next day I learned he *might* be a freebie...
And the sad part is, I know how to push the right buttons with his owner to bring about that particular event (the "freebie" event). But the sane part of me remembered my recent escape from certain financial circumstances, the fact that I just renegotiated the barn lease based on the current horse level and the fact that I DON'T HAVE TIME TO RIDE TWO, much less three, so I did not attempt to push the buttons. I tell you I cried all the way to the GA border... http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/cry.gif
But I did leave word with everyone else at the farm that I was VERY interested in him, so if he falls in my lap I can only say it was meant to be... http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

I'm a fan of the bigger TBs- and I think she looks like she will be a lot of fun to get to know- bossy but athletic and sensible.
