Soon, I will embark on a project I've been given.

We have an older pony at our stable (mid-later teens), nice little medium connemara, who has not been ridden in about 6-8 months. She's been turned out several hours a day, and is VERY over-weight. She looks like a huge bowling ball with legs! :D

I'd be interested to see how you would go about getting her back into shape (in a general sense - not asking for secrets). She is sound.

Like: Do I just talk-walk her for 20 minutes for a few days, then work up to a walk for 20 + 10 on/off trot? Stuff like that -

Thanks!!

was the time off due to injury? If so, ask your vet for her return to work schedule.

was the time off due to no one having time to ride her? If so, just start riding her! I would say until she's sweaty each day. If that is 5 mins trot or 20 mins canter... it depends on how fit she is from the turnout.

Thanks Alterrain !! Definitely the latter. She hasn't had soundness issues in quite some time. Kid didn't/doesn't have time to ride.
