Just got an email, unofficial info:
My friend Sue's Freestyle - Romiro gelding placed 4th out of 30 horses, his new owner is very happy! This is his second year at DAD if I remember correctly.
Cabana Boy, bred by MBG member Maple Run Farm, was in the same class and he won! Cabana Boy is by Contucci and is owned by Hilltop Farm.
Greengate Farm's 4 year old, Donerlicht ggf (has a new owner I think) placed 1st in dressage
suitibility!

Donerlicht is owned (at least as of two weeks ago) still by Suzanne Markham. She is doing a fabulous job bringing him along. She has had him since he was two. I would be really surprised if she sold him...who did you hear his owner was?
Are the results on-line?

Ok...good. Suzanne and Donerlicht make such a beautiful team together. It would be a shame if they were split up! It is really a joy to watch the two of them together.
*smack hand of forehead* Is it Sue's gelding that got 4th? Wow, that is awesome! She must be so excited!
Any word on how Donarweiss has done? (He is Donerlicht's younger full brother.)

It is POURING here, and lots of thunder- I haven't seen any lightning, but I AM hearing the thunder- and I live 20 minutes from Devon...really unpleasant outside, right now. It is supposedly going to get down to just showers by eight tonight. Could be a REALLY late evening....

I was hoping to be at Devon by now, but we now have massive flooding here part of our road is shut down--the creek is almost to our barn (I've never seen it this high in the 20 years I've been here) and it has taken out even more of our fencing http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif so I have been moving horses around...What next a plague of locusts, my daughter said no...it will be flying pigs next, I said no thanks one pig is enough!
My boy is already up there but doesn't start showing until tomorrow. I guess I will be leaving here bright and early in the morning. I spoke with Lauren Dearlove (who is taking care of him up there for me) She said it was slightly rainy in AM but now it is pouring and they did stop the show because of lightning and thunder. She's going to call me to night and give a further update, they showed several fillies and did well top five, I believe.

Pintofoal, my friend saw Sempatico there. He was being led into the barn to get out of the rain.
I heard that there was champion colt class of all reserves and champions and Cabana Boy from Hilltop was Champion. Don't know the name of the class though. She said they had to finish the class in pouring rain. Then I think they suspended the show and will reschedule the remaining classes tomorrow.
Last I heard it was raining sideways and lots of wind and lightning and thunder.

Claudius, I sold a 4 yo Riverman/Rantares mare to a family who does A show hunters in Florida. We should be seeing her debut this fall/winter.
I arrived at Philly at 2:30 this afternoon and drove straight to Devon. OMG, it was raining so hard that when I got to Devon I decided not to even get out of the car and went straight to the hotel. There has been a tornado locally and the flooding is incredible! This is all coming from Jeanne. I just went through Hurricane Jeanne in FL and came up here in hopes of getting away from the weather! Hmmm, guess that didn't work!
The weather is supposed to clear overnight. I'm going out to Devon first thing in the morning. Congrats to all the winners!!! Hope some of you are either hanging out or coming back (Janice???) I do want to get a chance to meet everyone I have been talking with online here plus some old friends.

The fillies of 2004 class was suspended because of thunder and lightening. They took a half an hour break - and then resumed. It was still raining and lightening a bit for the last eight fillies to go.
Glad to hear that they postponed the rest until tomorrow.

Not worth the risk -- we'll try again next year and go for the performance stuff this weekend. We got back last night. Both the Scimitar two year olds we took pinned in their huge class. Shananigan was third and Saracen was fifth. The two Innkeeper kids went under saddle and both got ribbons in their classes. Concierge was ninth in a large class for five/six year old suitability ridden by his owner at her first big show. I was one of the swimmers in the last class they held on tuesday before they cancelled the show for the day because of rain and flooding. I have to say that whipping it around the gold ring on a three year old in a materiale class with horizontal rain and the ring under water was one of the most fun parts of the day. It was just so comical!! Every youngster in the ring deserved a ribbon just for being there. My girl, Inntuition got a sixth.
It's Devon.........you gotta love it!!!!!!

HI!
Just got back home late last night. Cavaleer is dead tired, after being there two days. We saddled up a little more than an hour before our undersaddle class he was TIRED by the time we made it into the ring, the old man packed around like a champ though great pillar of strength for a couple youngsters that where spooking. He was a bit on his forehand (not moving forward enough into the bit) and when they asked for only posting trot I was bummed because we get our best movement with me sitting and putting him on his hindend more..but he placed 8th and I know Terri got some great photos, can't wait to see them. I met some really nice people and other riders and we had a wonderful time. I have to say Cav took a special liking to Roi Soleil http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

KimPeterson
Sep. 30, 2004, 05:07 AM
Hi,
I think he might have been 6th undersaddle as I think Liz had a green ribbon but might be wrong. He looked very cute and she did an excellent job of riding him.
Statacco and his rider had a mishap, he spooked or reared? for some reason all fired up and fell on her (it was a bit muddy for sudden moves) - they had to stop our class in the middle, I hope she is OK if anyone hears how she is doing please post. The stallion looked uninjured but they said he broke his saddle. She was taken away to the hospital during the class. --

Oh and Iron Spring Farm's stallion won the stallion under saddle class. Don't remember his name but he was pretty and his rider was VERY nice. They made a lovely pair! I don't remember his name but do remember them calling Iron Spring Farm. Congrat's to them and they did have a number of beautiful young horses there as did Hilltop Farm (very jealous of Hilltops barn at Devon -- except when it pours rain http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

Yes 349 Maya Sniadecky Staccato, they where at the other end of the arena suppose to be standing with the other four horses while we cantered at the top of the arena and for some reason he freaked out (he was fired up) she did not move after the fall and one of the women that tended to her said they think she broke her leg or pelvis it looked very bad and my heart went out to her, she was in a great deal of pain and made a noise when they lifted the stretcher to take her out...

Just wanted to let folks know that the Grand Champion of the show, Ocita, was CONCEIVED AND BORN IN THE USA!!! Ocean Heights and mbamissaz - you must be looking at the wrong list on the page. If you go to dressage daily, and can find the Devon page, the results are listed in each class under show results. Yes, Casing Wonder came in 6th with a 73.200% - it's right there (http://www.horsesdaily.com/news/dressage/2004/04dev/breed/results/04_2cg.html)! Ocean Heights - yes, you've listed the class entries, but the results are on the page, above the list of entries (http://www.horsesdaily.com/news/dressage/2004/04dev/breed/results/16_4yostalus.html). I hope you guys can find the results page, because it's there, on Dressage Daily!!! Good luck!

Hi: No, Happy Hour wasn't there. We scratched him from the competition last week due to a farrier issue http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I did not want to take a chance and push him until the problem was corrected so I had to do what I felt was best for him. And in reading and hearing about the horrible weather and footing, I'm not so disappointed. In one way, it's a shame because he is in lovely fit form and condition, and from that standpoint, it would have been lots of fun. Can't say I missed the flooding though... Hi OceanHeightsFarm: I'm very sorry he could not be there, but we always keep his well-being our very top priority and I had to make a judgment call. Oceanheights - I LOVED Cavaleer - he looks super for his age! I was bummed because I couldn't find any info on him in the program but he was just such a sweetie in the ring. Very handsome & classy looking. What is his breeding?

Hi all,
I'm still up here at Devon. Got to meet some of you. Missed meeting you Kim, but got to watch you and Cavaleer in the under saddle class. The old man looked wonderful!!! Good job getting him fit again! Capitano/Cor de la Bryere is a such a classic bloodline!
Maya and Staccato's mishap happened right in front of me. Goodness, it happened fast! Maya is ok, but will be mighty sore for a while. I saw her this morning and got a chance to talk to her. Nothing broken, just some major bruises and sore muscles. The fall broke the tree of her saddle, but fortunately he didn't fall squarely on her. I think the fall surprised Staccato as much as it surprised all of us. He didn't mean to go over backwards. He lost his balance. Up to that point he had looked fabulous in the class. Congratulations to the owners on his win in the stallion championships!
Kim, the big noise you heard when they lifted Maya didn't come from her. One of the paramedics got his hand pinched in the stretcher as they lifted it. He was the one who let out the big yelp!
Hilltop and their stallions certainly did the owner Jane McElree and their clients proud. They produced some wonderful offspring who placed and won at Devon. The handling team did an excellent job again, too. Cabana Boy and BW Corabella were super!
The Holsteiner IBC was not well attended this year. Ocita didn't show up for the class. I was surprised at the number of people who left early. Dr. Laurie Cameron and her lovely Cor Noir filly won the HUGE new AHHA perpetual trophy, a cooler, a silver engraved photo frame from Dr. Mary-Anne Ost and beautiful ribbons. Congratulations Laurie!!! Terry Miller took some great photos which will be published in the Impulsion.
Born in the USA was a great success!!! The prize money was fantastic! The owners and breeders shared in over $10K.
Despite the rain on Tuesday, Dressage at Devon is a meeting of the best of the best. It's tradition. It's an experience! Gotta LOVE IT!!!
For sure, I'll be there next year. Hopefully life will settle down enough for me to take several horses to compete.

Hi Meghan! I didn't see you, I was so happy he was able to make it there and thrilled just to have the opportunity to ride him in the "Dixon" oval, he really needs me to sit and drive him into the bit to get an extension, but did a good job despite being tired (both of us) http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
We entered late - so we are not in the program. He is Holsteiner bred/born/branded in Germany sired by Capitano - and his dam is Kamille by CordeleBryere -
His sire Capitano is also the sire of Capitol I
--
Capitano is by Corporal (Cottage Son) and his dam is Retina by Ramzes -
Thank you for keeping an eye out for us, I just love Cavaleer he is my man. You wouldn't believe what he has been through in his life that horse has real soul http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif I have only had him a year but love him like I have owned him his whole life.

Hi Oakleigh! You should have said HI I was talking during the class anyway http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif We had a great time thanks for the nice comments about him, keeping him clean was a job in itself..he liked to roll in the orange stalls..even with 6 shavings bags he managed to find his way to the red clay...
I CAN'T wait for Terri's photos I signed up to have photos taken of him in hand and undersaddle. Here is a link to one of us walking around the ring for those that didn't get to see his "little" happy face..in full dressage gear... Photo of Cavaleer and Kim walking in class at Devon.. Small brag.
Two of my sis's homebred draft crosses made top ten in their respective classes.
Fresh Cut Flowers was 9th in Maiden mares 4+. She is out of a TB/Perch mare by Cutladdy's Champ (TB)
Kryptonite was 10th in the 4 yo+ Materiele class. He is out of a TB mare by Glendevon's Mountain Man (TB/Clyde).
I think it's pretty neat that they could go out and compete with the big boys - not only beautifully bred horses but many presented by professionals - and both of them were presented by their ammy owners!
Yay for draft crosses with minds and movement!

Hi Everyone
We just got home. My colt Santaluca placed 9th in the Colts of 2004 class - right between the 2 Hilltop colts. He really didn't show well, though. The evening before, he was really bold, and just WOWed us, but for the class, he got very timid (he is a mid June foal) - just didn't strut his stuff - oh well... at least we finished before that horrible rain started.
Dallas by Nevada placed 6th in the 3 year old Colts Materiale class. This was the first time I had seen him, so a thrill. He has lovely gaits, but is HUGE - probably about 16.3 and growing <sheesh, his mom is only 15.2 http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif> so a bit downhill at the moment. He was such a super boy. Perfect, perfect, and his trainer, Sue Fryant just loves him!

Awww Mardi. It sounds much worse than it really is. The rings have many drains in them. On Wednesday, you would NEVER have known that it had poured the day before. The rings were perfect.
Devon is tradition. Devon has an aura that makes you feel like you are at home. The village, the grandstands, the people, the horses...all contribute to that wonderful feeling you get as soon as you walk through the gate. It's amazing that you can compact two rings, all the stabling, the village and everything into 10 small acres, right on the main street.
Devon is education. There are always several young prospects by the top sires. It's wonderful to watch them and compare similar traits. There is so much you can learn by just keeping your eyes open at Devon.
Yes, I agree completely... You gotta love it!

Dressage at Devon is a community, or a family reunion. It is like playing that volleyball game at the family or company picnic. Everyone wants to win, but it is the only show I have ever been to, that everyone will jump at the chance to help someone else if you need it. Break a leadrope? 10 of them will be tossed to you.
Hundreds of "relatives, and friends" showing each other their best horses, and you are thrilled to see how lovely they all are. Even when you are placed 11th, you are thrilled for the 10 finishers above you. Even if you thought your horse should be higher, it seems to be ok, because you know it is Devon, and you have a nice horse that deserves to be there.
In the middle of this party, there is always a rain day. That day is the "family" hike up Mount Everest. The thrill of survival, that brings the participants even closer. It is also on that day that your heart goes out to the family's super athletes - not the equine version, the Christine and Klaus version. When you see them come in with yet another horse, and can see the exhaustion, but somehow they pull the reserves out of their drained bodies and keep up with that huge trot. Once again, they leave the arena smiling, because they did it, and did it well.
And then you have the most incredible person at the helm of the great ship - Lorik. She keeps it all running, and makes it work no matter what the weather deals out. And smiles the whole time.
Devon? Yep! We all LOVE it!

Oh Man, Darlyn, you said it all! How true all that is.
Example: After being kicked, I am, yes, scared of Mr. Duc. I had arranged to meet Christine so that she would unload him.
She was delayed and I got there first. Ooops. I pulled in, got out of the truck, walked right over to Hilltop and told 'em the truth. Without blinking an eye, they said "sure no problem." and three of them came over to help.
Of course, Duc was PERFECT, didn't even raise an eyebrow ... and I felt like a dope. But not a one of them made fun of me, or even looked at me even *slightly* crosseyed.
Devon. Gotta love it. And as far as Lori goes. You hit the nail RIGHT SMACK DAB on the head. She's one in a million. I hope she's got her feet up now, having a nice glass of wine; though, knowing Lori, she's probably helping the performance people!

Just want share our exciting results!
My guy CFS Showtime placed 3rd in the 4 year old and older stallions (not showing under saddle). He finally got the 8 score he deserved for his walk, but did not set up well for the handler (He will get lazy and rest his hind and look siclehocked)... but I was thrilled to place 3rd in the open class with an APPALOOSA! He did not do as well in the App class but got an acceptable score of 69.9 - they let a mare come in to wait right by his triangle and he was compeletely enamoured with her and was very tense and didn't show a good trot or walk... we were disappointed! All in all it was fun - with the rain on Tuesday - I didn't get to hook up with any COTH folks... but did see Cavalier under saddle (he looks great for his age)... and Pintofoal...Sempatico is something else!!!
Congrats Janice - you might be getting a call from me soon about your girl - glad she did well... and MD - I didn't know Kryptonite was one you sister bred - I've seen this horse at some of the VA dressage shows - VERY NICE!
Congrats to all that did well!!!

ps - My guy (the app stallion mentioned here) is going back to the breeding farm (originial owners) ... I have decided that I do not want to be a stallion owner.. he will be for sale - those interested can contact me by email. trish

My first year at DAD - what a wonderful experience. Y'all are all so right about the whole attitude of helpfulness that abounds there!!!
I was going to go to the party, but with the rain I wimped out - plus I was EXHAUSTED! But then I had to go back to the grounds to find my cell phone charger (which was dumped on accident in the muck bucket outside YUCK!).
My boy did not do well the first class - we were in Yearling colts, and finished dead last - but I chalk it up to, not arrivin till almost 11pm the night before, having been on the trailer for 13 hours the day before (not to mention coming from FL) and then the stress of them moving the time up 30 mins (I finished my last braid with the 10 min gate call).
However, if I may brag for a minute, he did do MUCH better on Thurs for the IBC classes. He was in the Trakehner and the AWS classes and finished 3rd in both. VERY PROUD of him (and his handler!!).
Bugs-n-Frodo
Oct. 2, 2004, 08:21 AM
Well, I hold a particular fondness for Contucci since I found out his sire is Caprimond. I am a loyal Trakehner lover so it took me awhile to find that out. <blush> I have always loved him though, I just wanted to breed a Trakehner. I may have to go see him in person.
It sounds like you guys had a BLAST and did very well. I am hoping to join the "family reunion" next year. I was going to this year but wimped out. I am worried that I will not be able to compete. I want to take Frodo in the two year old class and/or the Trakehner class next year. Problem is, I am a HUGE wimp about "big" shows. You all may need to help me out here. I want to go with someone who has experience with this kind of thing since I have NEVER done this. I really want to show Frodo off though. He looks really good right now, especially the fact that he is a yearling, I wish I would not have wimped out.
Congratulations guys!!! Great job and your "kids", atleast the ones I have seen, looked great! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Well, I have to add to the blatant brags here. It was our first Devon experience, and with two mares with foals at side, it was rather busy! We did not come prepared for the stabling issues, and one filly managed to get her leg through the space in the stall wall. So, husband was off to the Depot, and everyone who saw their bright blue tarp wall covers thought it was a very clever idea. It may look silly, but we had no more injuries! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
Of course, this happened on Tuesday morning, just before the fillies of 2004 class. Luckily, she has a nasty scrape, but she was not lame. After all that excitement, she and her barnmate both did fantastic! Of 38 fillies competing, May Cabaret (by Michellino out of a Matador mare) placed 5th, and Willow, (also by Michellino, out of a Stravinsky XX mare) placed 7th.
We at Frogs Leap are just a' leaping with pride, that the first foals born on our farm have placed so well among some of the best young horses in the country! It is not such a bad way to start out. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Congrats Becky! I think that the top five or six in that class had scores of 80% and above! The second placed filly "BW Corabella" was the filly champion and reserve young horse for the show. Lot's of quality youngsters in that class. My filly "Uma Corwin CBF" placed third and were are thrilled as well!.
I agree that stabling was horrific! I also used a blue tarp to make a complete "wall" for my kids. One stall had a six inch piece of re-bar sticking up - then bent over in one of the stalls http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif. We put a muck bucket over it.

Laurie, you should be VERY PROUD of your filly. She is gorgeous!!! Congrats also on winning the AHHA perpetual trophy. Since this year we retired the old trophy and replaced it, your name will be the first one on the new one.
I also agree the stabling is horrific. The area that they have remodeled is wonderful, but they are taking WAY too much time getting it done. I think they are only moving forward about 20 feet per year. Too slow, considering all the income those stalls bring per year. At this rate, it will take 40 years to get the job done.
I enjoyed sitting down and talking with you. Next year I won't be a weenie about going to the COTH party in the rain... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I really wish I had gotten a chance to meet more of you COTHers!
Edited to add: I've already spoken to two of my trainers in FL. We all agree that it's time again for a BIG Florida group to make the trip up to Devon in 05. I'm going to start organizing it next month. Perhaps a couple of semis full of those nice Florida horses... See y'all there!!!

Hi all,
I got back from Devon last night and had that glass of wine, OMOM. I'm exhausted! and I'm not done yet. Congratulations to all who participated. It's truly an honor to be able to help present such a wonderful show in such a wonderful atmosphere for all of you amazing owners and breeders. Devon is 'home' for me. My 'family' has a reunion there every year.
The weather was horrific and beautiful all at the same time. Tuesday's deluge created huge obstacles for everyone. I sat in the office with two competitors after everyone else had left because the roads were closed and they couldn't drive home yet. We had a couple glasses of wine and ate some of the cheese and crackers that Fairview dropped off for the party that never was. (Thank you Mayhem for the really nice t-shirt!) I think I got back to the hotel around 1:00am that night. Wednesday brought nicer weather, but trying to insert the classes that had been missed the day before caused the show to go until 11:57pm....three minutes more and we would have been fined. The area residents weren't too happy with us.
I agree that the stabling is, in a word, the pits. I do believe that more of it will be renovated in the future, but it's a very slow process. Last year there was some concentration on fixing a few of the other buildings so there were no new stall additions. Believe it or not, that showground is basically maintained by two very hard working men. Hopefully they'll do a few more this year.
About the placing of the breeding on the results page. This is a software issue that I am going to try to solve with Fox Village for next year. It's a very powerful tool, but was written with performance in mind, not breed. Pete (who writes the software) is very easy to work with and makes improvements every year. I just have to get on his list.
Again, congratulations to everyone. I saw some beautiful USA born and bred horses. I think we have some of the nicest horses in the world here in the USA and am pleased to be a part of being able to showcase them at the worlds largest breed show. Hope to see all of you again in 2005 with an even better show and, hopefully, better weather.

Thank you, Oakleigh. My grey filly is going to look really sharp in her red "jammies". I really appreciated the time you took to catch me up on all the current "Holsteiner" news. Always fun to see a long distance friend.
I did spend some time talking to Susanne Hassler about the stabling http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif. She mentioned that a few people were considering getting a fundraiser going to try to speed things along. It is pretty tragic to have to put your "pride and joy" into those stalls. Every year I bring more "stuff" to baby proof them http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif - and it is never enough.
I did meet OM on Tuesday afternoon. She was "making the rounds" to catch up with as many people from the COTH that she could. Glad she did as once the rain came I felt we were lucky to make it out of there when we did. A little over an hours drive turned into three and a half hours. Very stressful as it was only the second time I had driven the monster long gooseneck - major white knuckles!

Well, guys, I have to tell you that although I agree that the old stabling is pretty dreadful, my Irish Sport Horse filly - who is about 16.2 at 2 years old - survived the Devon experience to go back 'home' (to her trainer's) to suffer a really bad injury to a hind leg by getting caught in an absolutely gorgeous and very, very, very well built stall. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gifShe somehow got herself cast and tore her hind leg up very badly. Now she has to stay with they until her leg has healed well enough so there's no more chance of proudflesh. Fortunately it wasn't a career threatening injure, but there's a significant chance of major proudflesh (which could be) if she's not properly cared for in the next few months. I would love to see all the stalls redone too, but those d*mn horses are walking accidents looking for a place to happen and they can do it in the best of facilities as well as the worst!!!!!

Tiki,
I am so sorry to hear that! It really sucks! Both of my fillies survived the horrible stabling, the hurricane, and the 10 hour trailer ride home, only to end up hospitalized by some nasty bug they picked up on the route somewhere.
Please send jingles our way for May Cabaret and Willow. So far, Willow has been in the clinic since Saturday, and Ray went in yesterday (Monday). High fevers, depression, and some signs of ulcers. Anyone else have horses with this?
It is true, these things are walking disasters waiting to happen!

Did you disinfect the stalls before you put them in? I use a mixture of water and roccal in a sprayer and do the stall before I put the bedding and horse inside. There is also something called stall safe that you can use that is non-toxic - I like the roccal because it takes care of a variety of things..
Wishing the best for your babies, maybe it was just from stress lowered immune systems and a type of "cold" bug ? shipping fever? -- at any rate I hope they are OK -- it was pretty damp Tues and Wed AM --

Oh no, Frogs Leap. Jingles for your kids. The stress never helps in these situations. I hope for a full recovery for them.

You just can't cover all the bases no matter how hard you try. Sigh. I should have thought to do this, but it was my first trip to Devon, and in the confusion of the traffic jam of unloading, I did not. You can bet it will be at the top of the list next time!
It was a big week for the babies, and I am not surprised that their little immune systems could not handle all of the new input. But keep the jingles coming!
Thanks from the kids!

Frogs Leap - I did go through something like you describe this past May! You can read all about it on THIS THREAD (http://chronicleforums.com/groupee/forums?q=Y&a=tpc&s=6656094911&f=5206053911&m=690200313&p=1) from the Horse Care Forum.
It sucks, but there was no permanant damage done. My youngest at the time were yearlings and I had no pregnant mares, so I was quite thankful for that. The 5yo must have picked it up when he was off the farm for one day, in a "foriegn" stall for a couple hours and in the trailer for two hours each way. He was a bit stressed by the new place and new riders too.
I was very surprised at how many other people chimed in with similar stories on that thread and the fact that none of my vets thought it worth reporting to anyone (like the Va Tech vet school or the AAEP?).
I hope it passes quickly for you. It scared the crap out of me. PT me if you want more details.

Thanks for the thread, I have read throught the whole thing, and forwarded it to my vet. I have also heard from other that have been showing in the Mid-Atlantic region of the same type of fever symptoms. Maybe it will will help the girls.
So far, the girls fever's are staying below 104, but just barely. Willow is doing better, she went outside today and froliced like a 4 month old should. Ray has been moved to isolation because of diarreahea. Hopefully, she will be better tomorrow.
Keep jingling!

Frogs Leap - I'm glad that it helped. In a way I hope it is the same thing, since everything turned out fine here. It might be a little harder on your babies, since they are so young, but at least it is very treatable.
Hang in there! We are all jingling for you here in Virginia! And please, let us know how things turn out or if you need anything.

Know this is closing the barn door after the horse is gone but maybe it will help in the future. We ALWAYS give our babies a shot of Eqstim (an immunity booster) prior to taking them to a show. We used to come home with colds and snotty noses all the time. Since starting this regimen we haven't had so much as a sniffle (knocking HARD on wood here!)
Sure hope your babies get better quickly.

Frogs Leap,
Jingles from me as well. I hope that your, and all of the other horses that may have sustained injury or illness in conjunction with the Dressage at Devon show are feeling better soon.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I took a yearling filly to the Aug. 14th Morven Park Show, she was there just under 24 hours and within 3 days, had "the squirts", fever of 104.6 and was VERY depressed. No one else on the farm ever got whatever she had BUT as soon as I could,I revaccinated EVERYONE for PHF, Rhino/flu, EEE/WEE and West Nile just in case.
My gelding came down with something similar earlier in the spring, again, no one else got it but it was very weird that he spiked such high fevers (104.9 down to 99 then back up to 104.6, down to 102, up again). We put him on bute/banamine for several days, it worked...for the filly we added doxycycline to the mix (just in case) as my vet said he was seeing Potomac Horse Fever crop up all over our area...
I have no idea what either of them got, and GLAD none of the others got anything. Also quite strange that both had such similar symptoms at different times...with the filly I attributed it to stress and thought she could possibly have a low immune system...good luck to you, my 2 year old that was at Devon seems fine but now I will really watch her...
