View Full Version : Who's gonna win tomorrow?

Let's hear the predictions!

While I'm at it, here's mine. I'm rooting for Sam Schaefer, as I remember trying ponies for a client at her mom's farm with her in a stroller napping as an infant. It's been a pleasure watching her grow into a top rider.

However...my betting money is on Molly Braswell. She's hungry, in top form, and has exquisite flatwork.

Next!

I have similar feelings about Schaefer Raposa. I've known her since before she was born. P.S. I feel old.

I think it's pretty wide open, really. There are some very, very good riders, but I wouldn't say there's a heavy favorite, unlike some past years.

There are so many things that have to click for the winner. The stars have to be aligned just right to make it your day.

Good luck to all!

Is there a particular emphasis for the Maclay compared with some of the other BigEq finals? For example, I've heard some people on COTH say that the USEF Talent Search kind of focuses more on developing jumper riders. Curious if there are general thoughts on some of the other finals...

There are SO many talented riders. I went to Harrisburg and was thankful I didn't have to choose.

I just hope that EB is in the ribbons. She was 10th at USEF and 11th in Medal finals.

Definitely my friend Erin Fry :) She's probably an underdog but she's a beautiful rider and she's on a great horse. There are a lot of amazing riders this year though, and it should be a good class!

Taylor Ann Adams just coming of a big win out west.

There's so many really excellent riders on the list, and so many I've been seeing over and over in watching the live stream of the junior jumpers, and all riding in near top form.

I'm sure it will be an excellent class. I wish I had lots of time to sit and watch it tomorrow.

Who were the top 30 to flat?

I just got back in from going to ride my own horse. I was very lucky to catch my friend's round before I had to leave. (Not bad, but wasn't going to bring her back in the top 30 I don't think.)

I saw a 9 in the group as they left the ring so it would appear that Samantha Schafer wasn't hurt by her early draw.

Can someone tell me how Katherine Schmidt went?

That last round was a great test! Had some big movers in the placing: Lucy Davis, Catherine Tyree and Amber all took some big leaps to get the ribbons!

I have to say that as far as the TESTING is concerned, that was the best Maclay Final I have seen in many, many years. They really made those kids work for it! :)

Congratulations to ALL the winners. Very impressive!

The top 30 on the flat or the top group for the second over/fences round, which had 18 riders? I didn't really pay attention to the flats, but in the second round course there was a trot jump.

My internet went down during the last part of the Maclay. What tests did they have the top 30 do?

Didn't watch the flat, but fairly certain they dropped their irons

The top 18 did a second round which had:
-A trot jump (in the middle of a line)
-An option for fence 11 (either tight to a skinny or wide to a vertical)
-A bending line which many did in 1, but had not set striding and a few did it in 2
And overall, if you didn't have a good forward pace, you didn't shine very bright, which is a very good test in itself

A lot got stuck in 7ab (bending 1 or 2), mostly rubs or missed spots and Sam had the stop there. A lot of rubs on a rollback to a natural oxer aswell.

Overall the best rider won (keep in mind as well that Hayley was 1st going into the final course, she didn't have to put down a brilliant, overthetop course, she just had to keep her place)

Personally, I think Catherine and Lucy had the best second round courses, but when you add in the flat and first round the places they got were good indicators of their performance.:)

I thought the course for the second round was a really good test with lots of solid questions. The forward bending first line, the rollback turns in the middle, the combination by the ingate, the trot jump as the second jump in the line- all showed which riders could make their adjustments smoothly and effectively.

I was hoping they would test the top few riders a little more, but obviously they felt like they had their winner.

Congrats to all- it was fun to watch.

I wil assume the judges determine the test and so forth --

That said this would be soooo Scott Hofstetter.
He as a judge is also an incredible rider who is soooo particular to detail.
On the very first round the ending of the long run to the oxer would be so him. If this is all true of the judges determine what they do,then I can see his influence through this show .

Great Job all riders!!

We did a clinic with Melanie Smith Taylor last weekend Oct 30-31 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and the second round was all hers with a few minor tweaks. She had us do that same course (and tricks) and discussed her expectations on how it should be ridden. Obviously we were no where as good as the Maclay riders but we tried.

The first round seemed all Scott...
