I think I have a problem. I bred my mare this year. She is starting to get large. So with the holidays coming and the variable weather this time of year brings, I have decided to put her out and let her enjoy her pregnancy instead of riding her. My plan was to buy something in January or February to ride competiviely while she is busy making and caring for the foal.
So I have starting looking. At first, I told myself that I wanted a gelding with certain bloodlines. Then I decided a mare or gelding would be ok. Last night as I was searching the net I noticed that I was really only serious looking at mares http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif and that I was fantasizing about who the best stallion for each one might be http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif WTF? Isn't the whole reason I am looking for another horse because I just bred my mare?!
Is there a 12 step program for people like me?

LOL, it is kinda addictive isn't it.
I got over my addiction pretty darn quickly after the bills started to add up. I mean Briana has over $10,000 into her and she is only 3 and may never be rideable.

Hi. My name is OMom. I'm a compulsive foal-buyer. I have 6 horses under 3 years old. (ooops. How did that happen? http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif )
Everytime I look at a breeders' website, speak to a breeder, think about my breeder friends, I get irrationally excited about what they're doing, what they're producing. I can't help thinking people are nutz not to snap them up.
You think you need a 12 step program. Move over, babe. I'm right beside you.

lol, what is it about breeding that is so addictive??
One minute I am fretting that my foals won't sell, the next minute I am searching for the dams' next hubby! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
And just when is the COTH stallion edition due??

Actually I worked this out in my head so it makes sense to me. I could have 2 mares and breed each one every other year, so I would always have something to ride.
I tried pitching the idea to my husband this am over breakfast. In the middle of the conversation, he developed the 1000 mile stare and said he had to get to the office early this morning http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

Thats ok.. I'm obsessed with stallions. I've seen so many videos it would make your head spin, and my brain is like a stallion Encyclopedia. I can tell you just about anything about any given stallion, because I cannot quit looking at them. Saddest part: I have one mare. I'm not planning on breeding her til 2006. I've already decided on about 10 different stallions "for sure". http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Its a new one every week, and I still have more videos coming. This will never stop.
Please someone help me. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Praise the Lord “yes” there is a program for you! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif
HBA = Horse Breeders Anonymous It’s a 12 step program. Belskie and I started it… I can tell you all about it, I’ve been through it… so has she. Works wonders, right up until you receive an email from Mulchahey or the next Schockemöhle DVD … or whatever it is that triggers Pat… next thing you know, you’re hooked again…

You guys are cracking me up! But it IS addictive! When I started breeding it was (supposed to be) for the sole purpose of breeding the kind of quality riding horse I personally could not afford to buy. Now, I have TWELVE horses standing in my pasture with 6 foals due next year. As one rather exasperated friend says, "Geeze...how many horses do you need...you only have one butt!" And, if I had saved the money, I probably could have bought one VERY EXPENSIVE horse...
I'm glad to know I am not alone in this disease. Hey -- if the compulsive foal BREEDERS get together with the compulsive foal BUYERS -- will that make us co-dependants?
Nancy!
Nov. 19, 2004, 10:42 AM
Okay NHWR, you are not alone. I started with my one mare and then we bought a stallion. So then I needed another horse to ride. Of course she was a mare also. Then I found I never got to leave the farm to compete until foaling/breeding season was over.
HMMM, might as well breed her too and then I can wean the foal in early summer. So glad my first mare's foal was a colt. I'm riding him now, have retired my first mare (from competition and breeding), my second mare is pregnant) and I'm riding her 4 year old.
There of course is a lovely black and white filly by my second mare that I'm "saving" for myself. Hehehe. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Yeah, like I really need 3 horses to ride.

Yup, it's very addictive. I'm happily addicted now, too. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Two years ago I was really into riding and showing and was aiming for the 4'+ Jumpers within 4-5 years, and now that I've been exposed to the breeding game all I want to do is keep making babies!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I am a compulsive MARE BUYER! Couple that with the fact that I have never sold a horse and it's a real problem. Everytime I get that $$$ saved up for a stud fee, another mare with great potential catches my eye... So, you've guessed it, I keep adding mares and haven't bred my mares yet!
Omom - looks like you make breeders happy! Kyzteke - I'm like you... convinced that I won't be able to afford the caliber horse I would like so instead I bought a few great producing, but older mares. Now I have all my money tied up into a field of old, open mares! Maybe I'm just a mare retirement home provider?

There is a related disorder as well ... I am well acquainted with it myself, as are many of the members of the pony list I am on.
It is CPBD (Compulsive Pony Breeding Disorder) and is very highly addictive.
Most of the Ponies-L members are afflicted to some extent, many of them quite seriously and to date there does not appear to be an effective cure ... or program.

My hubby will sign me up!
It all started when I went to look at a GELDING for sale at farm X as a riding horse. I didn't like the 3 year old gelding...loved this filly not even weaned yet. Seller would only sell me the filly if I took the momma too as she was getting up in years and he did not want to be a retirement farm. (At least he knew how to make money at it better !!!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif). SO momma came. Her filly sold quickly and I thought "this is great" and bought another mare just to breed. Her next foal sold fast (caveat to that was it took 2 seasons to get her back in foal...), so another mare came....then after you get up to 5 mares or so you are spending too much on stud fees and the illness progresses into "gee...now I need my own stallion. It would be better to sink all this money into a stallion I own..." http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif.

<span class="ev_code_PURPLE">I started to think about breeding, because I loved my mare so much. Than I looked into embryo transfer, because I could ride her as long as her baby would grow up with a surrogate mother. I found out the costs for embryo transfers and thought I can buy a foal for this money. With my taste, I was soon at the pricerange of a mare, so why not buy a mare in foal? I did that twice now, had foals every year since three years and now I'm looking for the next mare in foal and at two of my own to breed in spring. Crazy? YES! But happy! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif</span>

Guess what? I have successfully convinced myself AND my hubby that I can't part with the one that was to be sold. I have already picked out stallions for next year and am thinking hard about 2006.

I definately think I need to join HBA too... It is a real addiction.
Only I am addicted to getting more mare, and stallions and breeding... Then when I can not find more mares I use extra eggs out of them to produce more. So far up to 6 stallions and 13 mares and 2 mares that are capable of carrying transfer foals... 9 babies on the way next year...
So for who even wants to get more horses, foals, breed more can spend a weekend here and it may help to reduce the craving (for a day or two) http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

camojohn, your story sounds suspiciously like mine... I had my riding horse, but just got married, and thought my (non-horsey musician) husband needed a horse.. since my gelding was getting a bit older.. the 'plan' was that we would buy a nice big mare for him ( my husband, I mean) to ride, breed her.. and by the time the foal would be old enough for me to ride, my older gelding could retire.. and so we started to look for a horse "for my husband"...HA!
I went to look at a huge 3 yearold just gelded incredibly athletic big tough colt, right off the track ... meanwhile his owner - talking over my head to my husband, suggested that the colt was 'no horse for a girl' -he wanted me to buy the dam. I looked into the stall, and saw the most beautiful mare I had ever seen in my life. The memory of that moment brings tears to my eyes even now... The man wanted me to buy her because she was barren - the colt was her last foal.. I tried to cheer him up by saying, "she'll have another foal!" no, he said, never.. I have spent about $25,000 trying to get her in foal...
well, I bought the colt, and he was a star, and incredible animal. But I could not stop thinking about that beautiful mare. I had two horses to ride, a great house in the city, a great job, freedom to travel, money too... but that mare...
the Woodbine racetrack sale came up the next year, I came home from work to find the sales catalogue in the mail.. and immediately looked for the mare.. she was barren again.
we bought her of course. She was still the most beautiful horse I had ever seen.. and whether she ever got in foal, or did another thing in her life, I just didn't care. I felt that she had been a commodity all her life, bought and sold, raced and claimed. I felt that a creature of such beauty and nobility - like a Stubbs painting.. deserved more than that.
I bred her the next spring.. and she had three exceptional foals for me... of course I had to get another mare to keep her company, buy a farm.. get more mares...quit my job ..
and my poor husband....

My name is ljs and I too am a compulsive breeder. I remember telling my husband that the most foals a year we would have would be 4. We have 7 due in 2005 and may be breeding 8 next year. We already are planning the addition on the barn! I can't help myself. The kids and I try to guess color and sex of each foal and put it in a hat then see who wins...what do we win? I guess we win more foals... But sleepless nights and all, I love that Christmas morning feeling when those moms get ready to give birth.Talk about excitment and adrenaline rush!!! HELP!!!

My name is Nancy, I too have this illness, and it started by merely looking for a jumper prospect, a seemingly simple thing that quickly got complicated when the prospect of choice was a stallion, it was decided we would treat him and think of him as we would a gelding, that plan went fine until people kept calling wanting to breed to him, finally we stupidly said, well--just a couple breedings, it couldn't hurt, it would help with expenses, ect,
then it started, the adds, the approvals, the promotion, then gee-- wouldn't it be fun to breed a foal for ourselves, no two--they need company, then maybe we should hold inspections, and now the colts need promoting, and then, oh no they are growing up, we better breed some more, and while we are at it, we need better mares, and we can't possibly sell any of them, not the first one, no way, he was the first, and actually none of them because one never knows when one might miss a potential Gran Prix prospect, besides, we raised them, we love them, no way can we part with any of them, meanwhile several things are happening, apparently----------this is contagious----many of my clients are breeding, okay we are supposed to be a commercial H/J barn, so what if we put ourselves out of business, we have great mares and babies--ones that we can never sell, and the stallion now is too busy being a stallion, he has no time to show, there are more important things, my boarders get very very nervous when I start talking about a new mare or foals, warily eyeballing my isle of 30 stalls that has no room for another horse, acutely aware one of my mares is leased out, and the fact I have made arraingements for the NEW MARE I HAVE TO HAVE, and am picking up Sunday, temporarily has to live somewhere else, I own a barn and I am boarding a horse. Someone tell me---is that hitting the bottom yet????? Does it get better or worse than this??

Camohn....OMG... I feel soooo guilty! That's all I've been thinking about lately. Hiding a mare! I can't afford another mare. I have 2, but one didn't get pregnant this yr. But then I can't have just one baby!!! How lonely the little darling will be, not to mention socially deprived. What behaviour problems will I have to deal with!?
Yesterday I called to make an appointment to see a stallion. Then, I brought up the fateful topic. "I saw an ad that you also have some mares for sale. I guess I might as well look at them while I'm there."
I have a friend with 40acres and only 3 horses. What's wrong with her?! Never mind, plenty of room for my hidden mares. No, I mean mare, singular, ....maybe she'll want to go in partners on one, or two.........hmmmmmmmm

Do we get a chip for staying on the wagon?
I used to have a real problem...2 and 3 foals a year. Then I went to binge breeding, having a baby every few years. I even went 4 years one time without breeding!
I'm really committed to stop now. I'm so proud. The last time I bred my mare was 18 months ago. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

Susan,
Over a month ago the Great Belskie and I joined forces to start Horse breeders Anonymous - a 12 Step Program modeled after AA. The plan was that we would be available night and day for support through the trying times ahead… like when the stallion issue of COTH hits the stands. So we’ve been there for each other, with regular support meetings (and lots of coffee and cheese cake) http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif, but something is terribly amiss.
The Great Belskie is on her way to pick up a new mare later today… http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif and even worse, we’re racing over to see the mare as soon as it arrives. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

I could not slip the new mare in quick as the "old mare" has not left yet. The new one can stay put at her Other Home until March.....so I am going to enjoy winter with one less stall to clean! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. I am happy for the mare I sold though. She is only 7. I bought her as a broodmare because she was injured....but she ended up making a close to full recovery/is functionally sound and she is a pocket pony sort. She was bought as a children's hunter prospect and will enjoy being fussed over by her new girl who outgrew her pony. We too started with 34 acres and 6 horses. Hubby had 3 polo ponies. I had a riding gelding, & the filly and her dam I mentioned above I bought. I sold the gelding as I wanted to do dressage and he wanted to jump. Then there were 5. Then the next broodmare, and the next etc. WORSE: hubby has kept up with me collecting an equal number of polo ponies!! He kept buying "prospects" of which one in every 2 or 3 would work out. That has kept me busy trying to sell the ones that did not work out as fast as HE can buy them. Of course we finally hit the one that did not work out for polo to be sold........but he accidentally bought himself a sabeeeeno TB mare that is too jumpy for polo in a crowd but jumps the moon (OK...gates and fences) so I think she should STAY! He is laughing at my evil plot to keep her. He has a niece who is a good rider and her parents are not horsey folks. DO not want to buy her a horse. He always said he would do anything to be supportive of her riding since he was in the same boat with his parents and polo..........so I gave the mare to her to show http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.Sooooo.....we are now at 14 with the mares, foals, polo ponies and Mr. Studly. And 3 1/2 foals due in the spring. (3 of mine and one I am sharing with SportArab.)

Oh, you guys are GREAT!!
None of my family is "horsey" and they all think I'm just nuts for having all these horses and then breeding more.
Thank goodness there are those who understand -- it IS addictive. So, first we've all admitted we have no power over this addiction and need help from a Higher Power (IRS, spouse, accountant?).
Which step is it where you apologize to everyone for all the horrible things your addiction made you do? Hmmm....
And does all this mean we actually have to STOP? OK...right after breeding season...

Kyzteke,
I think you need to take this addiction thing a whole lot more seriously. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
To quit, we’re gonna need some incentive. So, for each Step we admit to, we should be able to buy another broodmare or do another breeding. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif That seems like the civilized thing to do, and I’m big on civility. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif So, "I, Elaine, admit I have an addiction," and now. Praise Gezus, I gotta go run and see Belskie’s new mare.

Well the way it has worked for me is this
http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
I sell one and that enables me to buy another and breed one. Somehow hubby has realized
that selling one always equals 3 more, so NOW i have him thinking we shouldn't sell any http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif
BUT I am taking 2 home and didn't sell one this year, so he has realized even this first plan isn 't foolproof http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Here is where I need help, counselling. A few years ago, I decided on what I called my "Ten Year Plan".. I have a colt, and he is so full of charisma, and so beautiful and level headed ... I am having dangerous thoughts...ie keeping another stallion. Now, I just gelded my other very legitimate stallion prospect.. so there is hope for me coming to my senses (especially when the colt turns 2! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif - but everyone who sees this colt loves him, and sadly, so do I... help.. heeelpppp. There is a picture of him (he is the pinto) (and the filly I just sold) on my website....

Nevermind that when the propect is 12 and I have to plan ahead -again, I will be 64, and then of course I will need a stallion prospect from that one, lots of people at 76 are still very active. Re: hiding mares---
That thought crossed my mind this morning as I drove home from Fingerlakes racetrack. I went to see a mare that my "spy" Louise had emailed me about. I'm going back to pick her up on Sunday, and my two horse trailer will come home full. I am a very very very sick person - I bought two mares. I'm not sure if I will breed both, but I got a package deal, and they both were really nice mares. The one with a better pedigree has a small ankle chip - she's the one I went to look at. The other is built like a brick house.
When hubby called me to tell me that he and his buddies had gotten some deer (opening day in NY), he asked if I bought her? I said yes, and he asked how (since I am still recovering from my terrible losses last month and vet bills up the whazoo)? I told him how much and that I was going to be able to put most down, and the rest when board money comes in in December. That was enough. I didn't tell him the amount quoted was for 2 horses though.
This evening, he asked again about the filly and when I was going to get her..... I said: "Well honey, it's a little involved..." http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
To be honest, he wouldn't have known - he can't tell Drew from his sister - or any other bay Mandarin around here (I have 4 and 3 are mares), and I could have put them out back. I did tell him though.

I'm a recovering mare collector, down to five from nine. I'm still a breeding addict though, but have downsized to just two broodmares, and I'm thinking of selling one of them as a riding horse right now because I had someone interested.... My goal right now is to get down to a total of three mares including one to ride and two to breed - but I have a couple of old ones that I'm going to have to hold onto until they are ready to be buried.

I forgot to add-
Right now I'd like to breed Yak to as many mares as possible to help promote him - these two make five of my own, and Roz will be bred to HOF - so 2006 foalwatch will be interesting!!!
Both mares are 4 and I figure a little retraining during the pregnancy, and finish them after foaling, and they can move on. Dual purpose, I call it. (I do realize this is justification laced with denial http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif).
I will post pictures of the new girls early next week after I get them home.

The problem with me is that I will not -- no, I refuse -- to send my old girls who did so well for me with the babies they produced of to where so many send them. Thank goodness I have pasture and the resources to let the live out their lives long after they can "produce".
Living my life with mares has been wonderful. Tomorrow I will most likely have to say goodbye to one of my best mares, who is now 25.
Riddled with Chushing's, she's very suddenly reacting to what is probably a tumor in her lung and it's been a 24/7 situation since yesterday morning.
With all the wonderful babies she's produced, THIS is a major part of the reality of being a breeding addict....taking care of "mom" in her golden years.
These mares are wonderful. We pry and poke at them all during pregnancy, yet they put up with us.
I'm gonna miss this gal... I started breeding her when I bought her at age 11. She's now 25.
Sorry to sound so morbid, but what started out as a funny post in which I took part a few days ago has suddenly become bittersweet. I know those of you who love your broodmares will understand.

sid,
I am sorry you have to face this. But I think this is the only way I could let my mare go. I could never her sell her or send her away. That is why it scares me to think about getting another one.
The first time I saw a mare foal I couldn't believe what they had done (especially having produced a couple of human "foals", puny by comparison). Everytime I witness it, I feel like yelling like those guys on SNL's Wayne's World "I am not worthy". It is such a powerful thing.
Good luck tomorrow.

Quinn, at least tell me you got new snow tires!!!?? - that baby won't be born for months, at least let's get you through the winter, shall we?? and you will notice that although Quinn stepped up she did not admit that she just got a new broodmare... but who is counting..least of all me..

OK, guys, what I want to know is, what are you slipping into your husbands coffees, that they accept your jones? My hubbie was not at all pleased when I bought horse #2 ..."She was only $450! How could I pass her up?!" (though he is very gracious about it)... but I expect the word "breeding" would lead directly to divorce papers. I keep telling him it could be worse... I could want CHILDREN....

Okay--I'm still single, it couldn't have anything to do with all my horses? Could it? Or the fact I tend to impart from the get go, that the horses will always be #1 ?? Nahhhhhhhh.

Hallmark is by Hall of Fame, by Art Deco, out of a APHA mare Kiss What Kelly by Quartermasterxx (Buckpasser) x Lobo 11 xx
Before I got the mare I asked about Hallmark on this BB - he stands at Terry Brown's, and all the comments on him were very postive.
The mare, Jewelers Mark, was bred by Terry Brown and she is a beatiful big mare, very placid and calm..a beautiful mover..
The babies have just been weaned, and this colt's attitude is "whatever".. I am in love.. somebody puleeese shoot me...
what do we put in our husbands' cereal? Nothing. It is more like the army's approach to homosexuality.. 'don't ask - don't tell'....

Okay, see it's like this for this addict:
1) Last foal was in May. Did not breed this year. DOING GOOD!
2) No husband (divorced) to help keep me on the wagon, though, but plenty of non-horse friends who "don't get" the attraction to breeding.
3) 2005 will be pivotal for me because visiting this board, going through the foalings vicariously with you folks, looking at those adorable baby pics...that might be too much. I'll need to go to Cartier's Breeders Anomymous meetings at least 2 x day.
As the saying goes, "hang around the barbershop long enough, and your gonna get a haircut"!
BTW, Fred, my mare is still hanging in -- tough old gal. We're doing everything we can --the next few days will be telling. Thanks for the thoughts.

I'm back on the wagon. Sold 1 mare last week and leased out one to another COTHer for 05 over on the breederless mares thread http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. Too bad I asked who she was going to breed the mare to. THAT was a mistake. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif This COTHer has 2 young WB stallion prospects she has hiding in her barn. One substantial boy the TB mare will be bred to for a test foal, the other is very refined and elegant. A perfect match for the tanker WB filly I wasn't originally going to breed at all next year as she will be 3 and is to be my riding horse. You see where this is going. One foot fell off the wagon already. I just printed off the breeding contract............. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif.

Sid,
There appears to be one tiny flaw in the Horse Breeders Anonymous 12 Step Program that Belskie and I developed - in three words -it didn’t work! In fact, it failed miserably. The Great Belskie and I didn’t even get around to formulating Step 2 before she was off picking up a new broodmare. And at this moment Arthur is off looking for the elusive black 16.3 hh SPS Escudo mare… http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif geez….
I realize it’s gonna take time to work through this HBA program, but so far the only thing we really gotten out of it is good conversation, warm fellowship,a stronger addiction to coffee (and a fondness for Hazelnut Cappuccino Cheesecake). http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

I just spent the day prepping stalls (had to put a partition in a foaling stall since my first isn't due til May) for my new girls that I'm picking up on Sunday.
While I was tearing out and cutting and putting back, I called the trainer. It had just occurred to me that the mares might be on some funky track diet and I should probably make a quick trip yo the feed store to get a bag of something to transfer them over to my feeding program. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
The trainer was at her grandmother's in PA, and her cell didn't have the best reception, so she called me right back. I am so pleased at how excited this gal is with my plans for them. She wants baby pictures and updates and all that stuff - a track trainer who cares gives me warm fuzzies.
Now all I have to do is go repair a few blankets and I'm all set!!!
Tom - it isn't too far at all!!! Gail has promised me a filly next time I breed to AFR, so I'll keep you updated on that front as well. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Do you get more sympathy for a breeding addiction if you have no other income? Somehow, saying I am a horse breeder by profession is misleading, as it implies that I make money at it, and we all know that's ridiculous. Anybody who gets into this business for the money is going to get out quickly, and I've been doing it for almost 30 years.....so I'm either REALLY stupid, or I'm more in need of that 12 step program than anybody. Too bad I've squadered this year's profit on hay so that I can't afford counciling........or even cheesecake!

O Mom, that pic was at Blue Rock. We were lucky though and she did win her class at Devon as well. She is out of a Tb. mare named Skim The Moon and by the Trakehner stallion Zarr who stands at Warioto. I have her full sister who is a dK brown bay with only a few white hairs on her forehead.
Skimy is bred a bit like a mare at Ironspring Farms that produced Persimmon for them. Skim is 18 and we did not get her bred back last yr. and she resorbed the yr before. So we will try one more time this coming yr. She loves her babies, however we will listen to her.
How is the mare you are looking at bred? She is such a nice type and looks to have a bright future ahead of her. My jaw dropped as well when the picture opened up. A gorgeous dk brown/blk with a bit of chrome. What I try to breed for and hmmmmm sorta often get hmmmmm, redheads. Even when I breed dk. br. to dk. br. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif
This is a pic of Skim and Fancy.
Maybe you can see why this mare you are looking at struck me so. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

I have sat on my hands long enough so with head hung low I will confess. I added 3 new mares since spring:
Cerene (http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/index.php?query_type=horse&search_bar=horse&h=CERENE2&g=5&inbred=Standard&pedloggedin=0)
A Little Bit Of Heaven (http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/index.php?query_type=check&search_bar=horse&h=a+little+bit+of+heaven&g=5&inbred=Standard)
She's The Best (http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/index.php?query_type=horse&search_bar=horse&h=SHES%20THE%20BEST&g=5&inbred=Standard&pedloggedin=0)
Now I have to add here that camohn has been my "sponsor" and while sometimes she says "I thought you were selling" when a nice mare with a good pedigree comes along she also is an "enabler". On a positive note 3 did leave my farm this past weekend so with the others sold this year I am still at a net loss of 5 for the year so I think I am trying to hold onto the wagon!! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sadsmile.gif
