View Full Version : Wild Grapes on Farm

I have wild grape vines on my farm that have a pretty hearty harvest this year. I believe they are fox grapes?

I have searched online for more information about when to harvest, what to do with them, etc., but haven't really found enough.

Anybody done this before?

If you are certain it is a wild grape, foxgrapes are usually harvested in Octoberish depending on the weather. I think there are plants that resemble edible grapes but aren't so you may want to check with your extension agent or someone you trust.

There is another kind of edible wild grape and I can't remember what it's called but I think it's harvested in September.

You can make wine, jelly, jam with them - anything you can make with cultivated grape you can make with wild grapes.

In the south a very delicious wine is made out of muscadine which is also called fox grape or scuppernong.

A very yummy wine.
