I'd like to purchase a power paint sprayer to use around our home/barn. I'd like something strong enough to paint the barnyard fencing (5 board) and also utilitarian enough to paint the lawn furniture and other odd chores around the house. Any pros vs. cons, brands to steer clear off, rave reviews, etc?

We have a gas powered paint sprayer but they are several thousand dollars. We own a fence company and paint most of our fences this is why we have one. Home Depot sells an electric paint sprayer for around $1,000. Works great just make sure you clean it thoroughly when you are finished. We had to buy one when our gas one broke in the middle of a job. Most paints are now latex, though we use acrylic and have had no trouble just mix well before use. Hope this helps.

Decide first which kind of paint you will be using.
If you have metal to paint, with oil type paint, then you need a different kind of sprayer.

We have one of those Wagner sprayers you set a paint bucket on and a hose sucks the paint out, similar to this one, but it has a bottom to set the paint bucket on and at that time cost around $150:

Ours works great, except that now that we have mostly all metal, we won't need it any more, we are using our neighbor's oil paint sprayer, that he uses to paint the grain truck trucks he builds.

Ours is a pain to clean, like all such sprayers, so you want to line up a lot to paint and get it done at one time.;)
