Jul. 29, 2010, 07:18 AM
Curious how the horses live and work at the track? Want a chance to talk to trainers and riders? Here is your opportunity! On August 21st at 8 a.m., Leighton Farm in conjunction with Laurel Racetrack will be hosting a seminar to benefit Thoroughbred Placement and Rescue, Inc., providing you an opportunity to see the horses at work and ask questions of trainers and riders. Come join us on the Grand Stand apron at Laurel to learn more about these wonderful horses.

A donation of $20 is being requested at the time of the seminar, children are free.

Retraining the retired racehorse for a new career starts with understanding the horse you get. To do this you must understand the basics of race training and handling because the day you get a horse off the track his only knowledge is that of a racehorse. To understand him or her is to make the transition to a riding horse seamless. Learn how they are ridden by watching horses train in the morning and discussing the techniques applied by the riders and trainers. Exercise riders, grooms and trainers will stop by to talk and answer questions. In addition, Kimberly Clark will be there all morning to discuss how the horses are ridden and handled and explain what is happening on the racetrack during training hours.
