Yea! What a great sticky idea, Erin! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Here are the ROLEX items on my mind...

1) Let's do the IMACOTH'r pin/stick/shirts... whatever again this year!

Last year some of us had the IMACOTH'r (ill post a picture) tag pinned to our bodies, backpacks, hats. In fact, one interesting COTHr (who was it?!) had the tag attached to two giant curly antennae's coming out of her head! Hard to miss!

2) LET's have a GET TOGETHER! There are so many people I want to meet and I never seem to be able to meet them! Can we have like an official "course walk" or "brunch" or something? Meet by the lake, or the scoreboard....

3) Who's camping?! I'm gonna go down on Tuesday (I think) and hopefully get a tent site! Is this feasible? I heard a rumor that the campgrounds guy said if you aren't there on Monday, you won't get a primative site. SHould I panic?

A sideline .. for those who are going to be there on THURS April 22nd, you might want to attend:

* Rood and Riddle will hold an equine-health seminar on April 22 at the Kentucky Horse Park's South Theater. The seminar, which will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. and has a $5 admission, will include presentations on treadmill examinations of the upper airway; magnetic resonance imaging; and sport-horse medication rules. Presenters will include Dr. Chris Newton, Dr. Scott Hopper, Dr. J. Brett Woodie, and Dr. Kent Allen.

This is my first Rolex as well! I really, really hope we can get the t-shirts before we go. If not, I'm sure I can think of some way to proclaim myself as a COTHer. See y'all there. Oh, also, I vote for a meet up - an official one so we don't just say, "Yeah, everybody show up and we'll meet." Something with a definite time and place!

MrToad! See my first post. That picture is what a bunch of us printed out last year and pinned to our bodies to proclaim our COTHhood.

I laminated mine (probably still have it) and pinned it to my backpack. Like I said, someone else stuck it to two curly bounching antennae coming out of her head! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Just one solution.

I'm not camping this year but last year the campground wasn't as bad as it has been in years past -- no more dog agility trials at the same time. However, you should still get there on Tuesday if you can swing it. That will, hopefully, get you closer to the bathrooms if needed. I slept in my horse trailer last year (in the gooseneck portion of the dressing room) and stayed at a campsite slot with a couple of others (in tents) so the close proximity of the loo was really helpful. You don't have to be in primitive just because you have a tent (although the RV'ers will wish they had your pad). I ran an electric line to my trailer for the fridge & microwave. (Just because we went without the RV doesn't mean we can't have some luxuries.)

I also hope that there will be a COTH get-together.

Wow -- ya'll are lucky to be going this year! I sure wish I could! I went to it in 1997 and 1998 and it was absolutely amazing. Of course, at the time, I was 11 and 12 (respectively) and hadn't heard about David O'Connor yet so I didn't really know who I was getting my picture taken with and getting an autograph from. I just remember my friends telling me he was famous and an amazing rider. LOL.

But really, hope you all have fun and take lots of pictures. Maybe one day I'll get to go experience it again. It's what made me decide one day I would love to event, but there's no eventing barns in my area that give lessons, so I'll have to put my dreams on hold. Until then, I live to go watch the Poplar Place Spring Trials. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I would say probably 1 1/2 hours from Louisville to KHP.

I'll be there Friday and Saturday definatly and maybe on Sunday. But, I'll be in a meeting on Friday and am fence judging all day Saturday, so probably won't be able to meet anyone. But I will print out the sign and pin it on me somewhere just in case anyone wants to meet me (which I doubt, but just in case http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

Regarding the KHP campgrounds: there are an "infinite" number of primitive sites (i.e., don't have electric) available. But only a "finite" number of sites with electric hookup.

Happy Tenting!

XCtrygirl -

I'm not going there for any reason... but I'm planning to be at the KYHP all week camping! So I'm BET I'll be very free to run over to louisville and get you if you can't get a ride! 1 1/2 is not the end of the world.

Of course, if I get that (damned) job offer in the next week or two, I might not be camping at all... I *might* be moving! We will see....

I got a really wonderful pullover at Rolex last year and I'm not going this year so I went out to the site to see if they were selling any of the stuff online--and they aren't! What a missed opportunity! Bummer. I wonder if they'll consider it for the future. They could probably sell some of the shirts from their old events as well--if they have any left. They sell out SO quickly!

I can only conclude that I'm paying off karma at a vastly accelerated rate.

I'll be working Rolex again this year. Thursday and Friday in the Members/Patrons/Sponsors tent at the concierge table and out at Steeplechase on Saturday with Malcolm. Steve will be with me this year, so look for a tall, skinny, dark haired gentleman with a tall, not so skinny, blonde at his side. That will be us. And be sure to come out to Steeplechase, will ya? It gets kinda lonely out there.

Ok, is it too early to start planning a GATHERING?!

We need a Leader... I'm not sure I'm leadership material... but I'll start!

Can we all plan to meet somewhere at a certain time? I tend to be oblivious to my surroundings, so even though I've been there several years in a row, I have no idea where a good place to meet is. A place that isn't crowded, etc....

The Scoreboard?
By the Lake?
By one of the XC jumps?
The startbox?

We could take an official "COTH COURSE WALK" together! Or something. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

What do you all think?

How about meeting Friday afternoon or something.... before Saturday XC starts? Or Shall we meet after XC on saturday because more people will be there?

mcmIV...how about meeting at the snack bar that is just outside the barn area? It was never crowded when we were there and there are tables and chairs and covering. It is next to where the jog-out is.
Should we designate two separate times for people who cannot make the first one? If we bring refreshments we will probably be welcome during the evening parties at the campsites.

tecumsea...why don't we try and pick a few times when the activities have slowed down (or before they start) and then vote on them?

There there are seminars going on during most noon breaks, and course walks on Friday evening that some of the hardy COTHERS might want to attend. (I will try and survive for a few of the jumps.) Perhaps we could fit one meeting in before the coursewalks?

But mcmIV is organizing this, so I am going to defer to her.

I know of two coursewalks on Friday evening, however i am not sure of the times. When we find the times we could meet at the snack bar ?? amount of time before.

Our very own LAZ is organizing one and charging a very minimal fee in order to raise money for her Area VIII Young Riders Team. (You Eventers will have to agree that this is an extremely worthy cause!) It will be conducted by Holly Hepp who has two horses entered at Rolex and is the coach of Area VIII.

The other is put on by NunnFiner (I believe) and will be conducted by Ashley McVaugh and Will Faudree.

Both should be excellent!

Wasn't Free the COTH'r with the Tag stuck on curly antennae's on her head? I seem to recall.....

I'll wear my tag - I'll wear a SHIRT if I can find a place to buy one. IMACOTH'r!

As for times to meet.... I don't know when it's "slow"... like I said, I'm oblivious. I'll tag along with a group, but for the most part I wander aimlessly and stop for an occassional nap or to watch horses with my camera.

So how about at the snack bar (near the jogs) two times.

Friday and/or Saturday? I'd like to walk the course. (I don't think I've ever walked the entire course, I always get distracted)

How about an official COTH BB'r Course Walk... in which we walk at a comfortable pace, chat, and ooohh and ahhh over the big fences. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif We can tell tall tales of how we once ran courses like this one... but back when we were 12 yrs old on our crazy pony!

So *someone* - tell us when a good TIME is on Friday and/or Saturday! Friday would be good for the "course walk".... When is there not a seminar/luncheon/famous person speaking...

I loved watching it last year, seeing the horses and riders up close. I'm planning a crafty little escape from my office again this year....

I hear there are unlimited camping sites (no electricity), true? what are the best spots?

Are there showers? We would be mighty stinky without!

I will be in the Patron's tent Saturday and Sunday, how will I know you? Or should I just go up to all of the concierges and ask if they are a hitchinmygetalong? Those other than you might think I was kinda of wierd http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif.

I'll be there Saturday 8-12:30 and Sunday 9-2.

Even though it sounds strange, there really are unlimited tent sites (w/ no electric).

Picture a huge green grass field, maybe 50 acres? and the tent sites aren't numbered or anything like a "regular" (crowded) campgrounds. You might not be real close to the loo, but there's plenty of room.

And there is a fairly nice shower-house (at least as those types of things go). Shower water is medium-hot. But you might want to wear your sandals! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Only 13 days or so to go! Woo hoo!

I am volunteering through Children's Miracle Network. They sell programs and run the gift shop. Last year I sold programs at the ticket booth by the camp site Friday and worked the gift shop on Saturday. We were really busy Sat, but I was directly across from the Jumbotron so I saw a little of almost all the horses go during my shift. Am not sure where I am working this year, but I will be on the lookout for COTHer badges.

Martha,
Time from L-ville to KHP depends on what time of the day you arrive and how fast you drive. It usually takes me just about 1 hour +/-. Watch your speed around the 2 Frankfort exits on 64, there are often state boys on patrol there.

if anyone was any input it would be great and much appreciated.

Well, what will really hit home is if you can find some photos of people standing next to/inside of those jumps. It will give it some scale, which has much more impact than saying "this particular jump is 10 feet wide and 4 feet tall." I will tell you, they are SCARY HUGE. Last year I was on the planting crew that mulched and planted the flowers around them (FUN job, by the way) and we would just stand there and scratch out heads... How on EARTH does a horse get over THAT?!? I'm sorry now that I didn't take any pictures. I know on the website they have some pics of them being constructed.

An aspect you might touch on is how they are trying to make the jumps safer with break-away logs and the like. This is an interesting article about it:

http://www.thehorse.com/viewarticle.asp?fid=4424&dpt=5

I believe the course designer for Rolex is Michael Etherington-Smith. What an interesting job he must have! To design a course challenging enough for the world's top riders, yet safe enough to not put everyone in peril.

Good luck with your presentation!

Was at the Horse Park today on the 'mulching crew'. The course is really coming together and they have changed quite a few things this year.

It will run the same direction as last year, but most of the complexes have gotten more technical--e.g. narrower faces on the jumps, more bounces. They are also building a new grandstand next to the main ring, so there will be more 'good' seating there from now on. It's nice, but too bad they end up blocking the view of part of the lake with it.

Everybody think rain as things are kind of dry here right now.

Two weeks to go!

I've been walking the course every day during lunchtime (I know, lucky) and just marvel at the beautiful job Mick and crew do with the carving and smoothing of those beautiful logs. I think it's great that they offered those covered grandstand seats to General Admission. It's hard to get used to the stands, but they'll be such a welcome addition. Always amazing to see how much comes together in the last week/two. The tents going up remind me of the $5/week I said I'd put away for those vendors...

well crap-------that means i have to pack twice the gear i was planning----some for warm some for cold-ugh----i HATE packing

so as far as comfy shoes--are we talking like running shoes?

so coat for night, windbreaker for day? and of course whatever the fab MN weather feels like being the day we hit the airport------which can be anywhere from 20 to 70 http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

unfortuantely i am NOT a jeans kinda gal and usually traipse around in a dress/skirt ensemble but i dont think this will be appropriate so I may have to invest in more jeans, in addition to the 2 pair i have stashed in the back of my closet somewhere, although i could always do the skirt/dress look with running shoes that one sees downtown during lunch when all the women walk for their lunch break http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif yet my usual barn attire of grubby sweats i am feeling may not be appropriate. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif

also i think i am going to take disposable cameras instead of the digital, since 1----unless you have a lot of memory cards, you always run out of space on the digi cams and 2--in the event i get so excited and drop everything, a disposable cam is easier to accept being lost rather than a digi--i always take disposable cams to horse shows for this reason and am always impressed with the quality of pics from them

ok another stupid question----cash or travelers checks? i know traveleres checks are safer but is it a PITA to find places in the KHP that take them? and of course how much $$$$$ to take? i dont plan on doing a lot of heavy duty shopping--remind me i said that----but of course i have to eat, buy this and that-----on an average how much does one spend on food down there? out hotel has breakfast, so thats not an issue--

has anyone gone on the horseback ride arounf the KHP? if so how much and was it worth it? anyone gone on the big farm tours? again how much and was it worth it?

this is my and my friends first trip to KY so in addition to oogling Rolex we want to see as much of horse heaven as we can--amateurs, i know http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/uhoh.gif

and finally, we are staying at the Continental Inn of Lexington on New Circle Road--about 11 miles from KHP and 5 miles from Keeneland anything fun/good places to eat in that vicinity?

You are going to be on your feet all day, so wear what makes your feet happy. Carry dry socks with you since you will get wet in the morning grass.

Pack for both hot/humid and cold/wet. There is absolutely no predicting the weather.

unfortuantely i am NOT a jeans kinda gal and usually traipse around in a dress/skirt ensemble but i dont think this will be appropriate so I may have to invest in more jeans, in addition to the 2 pair i have stashed in the back of my closet somewhere, although i could always do the skirt/dress look with running shoes that one sees downtown during lunch when all the women walk for their lunch break http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif yet my usual barn attire of grubby sweats i am feeling may not be appropriate. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif

Don't forget a hat, or you will be unhappy with the sunburn should the weather decide to be nice! Or, if you prefer, there will be several places that you can buy some pretty cool hats on the grounds. Also, there is usually a vendor in the "big tent" that sells the neatest messenger-bag/hip packs/mini-back packs and their prices are terrific!

also i think i am going to take disposable cameras instead of the digital, since 1----unless you have a lot of memory cards, you always run out of space on the digi cams and 2--in the event i get so excited and drop everything, a disposable cam is easier to accept being lost rather than a digi--i always take disposable cams to horse shows for this reason and am always impressed with the quality of pics from them

Write your phone number WITH AREA CODE on the disposable with a Sharpie. That way, if you do lose it, there's a better chance of getting it back.

ok another stupid question----cash or travelers checks? i know traveleres checks are safer but is it a PITA to find places in the KHP that take them? and of course how much $$$$$ to take? i dont plan on doing a lot of heavy duty shopping--remind me i said that----but of course i have to eat, buy this and that-----on an average how much does one spend on food down there? out hotel has breakfast, so thats not an issue--

Well, I don't know about the traveler's checks thing. Maybe someone else can help you out there. The food on the grounds is typical carnie food - overpriced and just so-so (captive audience). You might want to hit up WalMart or somesuch once you get here for food you can carry and snack on. And lots of bottled water. As far as spending $$$ - well, you can drop some serious change at Rolex, but I personally can't stand "shopping" there, so I never spend much. Oh, they will have an ATM machine on the grounds, it's usually near the scoreboard.

has anyone gone on the horseback ride arounf the KHP? if so how much and was it worth it? anyone gone on the big farm tours? again how much and was it worth it?

That "trail ride" is pricey and you really don't see much of the park itself. I can't recommend it.

this is my and my friends first trip to KY so in addition to oogling Rolex we want to see as much of horse heaven as we can--amateurs, i know http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/uhoh.gif

Are you renting a car? If so, please take some time to drive (carefully) some of the lovely back roads that wind through the farms. If you have any time available, you might try a tour of one of the farms. I think Three Chimneys is pretty easy to get on to. Do a Google search for their website. And just a quick visit to Keeneland (racing ends Rolex weekend) is a nice diversion. Though you want to do that in the EARLY morning. You can get there as early as 6 or so, park anywhere, and just walk on over to the track and watch the horses gallop. Won't cost you a cent.

and finally, we are staying at the Continental Inn of Lexington on New Circle Road--about 11 miles from KHP and 5 miles from Keeneland anything fun/good places to eat in that vicinity?

I'm not that familiar with that part of town. Sorry! Hey, have fun, stay safe, and look for those COTH'er badges!

Sorry if someone has posted this already -

My advise to all........BRING A BACKPACK!!!!! They are the absolute best thing in the world....you can stick EVERYTHING in it....you have both hands free for shopping and it is much easier to carry around.

Clothing......BRING IT ALL!! Seriously I've been going for about 10 years now.....and have had everything from 80 degrees to rain to snow to wind and 35 degrees - sometimes in the same weekend! Sock are a great idea as is a poncho of some sort. And LAYER everything that way you can adjust to the changing temps.

But most of all.......HAVE A BLAST!! I'm going down on Wednesday this year so I can catch all the excitment. Hope to see some of you there!

get off on the winchester road exit, off of new circle, which is right across from the continental inn. go out of town until you get to Sir Barton Way, which takes you into Hamburg Pavilion. it's a huge shopping center, with all kinds of stores, grocery stores, and lots of cool restaurants. State Line Tack also has a store there, its part of the PetSmart.

you can also get on the interstate from Hamburg and get to the KHP really easily from there. just make sure to ask for directions... every time i've tried to do it i get on the wrong way, and have to turn around 15 miles later.

on another note... we should all just get those little sticky nametags from walmart and write "what the fruitbat" on them. easy identification system...

If you have a particular interest, look in the Rolex program and see who is in charge of that area. Then make a point of finding them during Rolex and letting them know you would like to volunteer in the future. Try to get their contact information and then send them a reminder a few months after Rolex to let them know you are still interested.

I will warn you that some of the jobs have a rather long waiting list of volunteers. A friend was on a waiting list twelve years before she got to be a dressage scribe. Depending on where you get assigned, you'll do things like put on wrist bands, hand out programs, or just give out information. It will help that you are from Lexington because sometimes people will ask about good places to eat, other things to do while in the area, etc. If you have any problems, Lynn, the lady in charge of the Concierge volunteers, is always close by and is super nice.

jumping into this late, I know. I'll be there sometime late Friday afternoon thru Saturday. Would love to meet up. I know some people (SimpsoMatt and Joliemom, for example) on the matt's Rolex listserv have decided to meet up at 5:00 outside the member's tent, IIRC, for what they have deemed "The Stumble" (aka, walking the XC course with drink(s) in hand). This was the only way I can walk the whole course as the pace is slow enough for Reese, the soon to be 11yo Newfy, to keep up!! But as long as it isn't forecasted to rain all weekend, Reese will be making the annual trek! He's usually all I need for people to find me in a crowd. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

jumperpony_Blaze... the fences can be no taller than 3'11" (the solid part on XC anyway). Brush fences can be, I believe, up to 4'3"... same with stadium fences. If you want to see some pics from teh last few years, visit SimpsoMatt's Rolex site at http://www.jmatt.net/rolex/

I'm already committed to the 5 p.m. course "stumble." http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif If anyone gets by the Trakehner booth from around 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday and then again from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, stop in to say "hello." I say around 11:30 a.m. as I have a vet appointment for all the horsies that morning and then have an 1 1/4 drive before I get there.

I don't think any weekend meeting times/places have been discussed. I know for us, we'll be doing The Stumble on friday and then staying fairly close in on Saturday - infield water, lexington bank, head of the lake, sunken road... and of course a trip to watch a few in the vet box and hopefully to say hi to canterlope and Malcolm at steeplechase. But for those of you wanting IMACOTHr t-shirts -- make one yourself! Just go buy a white t-shirt and some t-shirt transfers at an office supply place. ooh my god... I am desperately trying to save Rolex (the happiest event on earth) from being a complete disaster for me this year.

Today, 3 days before the flipping event, my best friend calls to tell me she can't go. Apparently "school" is important. So I'm stuck with a group of parents and trainers (who will inevitably go to bed early, get up early, and gorge themselves at happy hour), an extra patron's pass and a broken heart http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/cry.gif. Finding a replacement will be tough considering A. everyone is already going B. I have few horsey friends my age C. Hello we leave in 3 days to go to Rolex but this year I didn't buy tickets in advance, so where to we buy them???? Are they somewhere like at the main gate of the Horse Park? Or can we go park in the Rolex parking lot area na djust walk up to the gate a purchase them there??

Thanks

Mickster

Seats may be purchased after you have entered the Horse Park at the Ticket Tent in the Event Commons.

Basically, once you pay for parking, you then get to pay again for tickets. Parking is $5 per car.

I don't know if "Reserved Seating" tickets will be available, it's "first come, first serve" the day of the events.

There are 5 of us driving up from S Georgia on Thurs, so hopefully will bump into some of you Friday and Saturday. Three of us are COTH'ers.

No one is packed yet, what the heck to wear? I checked the weather seems chilly compared to our 80's right now. Could be 60's or 70's. Does jeans, t shirt and light weight jacket sound about right. What kind of shoes - paddock boots, sneakers?

Mickster can you clarify that? When you drive up to the Horse Park you pay for the parking then drive off to the right towards the water complex and park out that way. If you drive/ or walk off to the left you end up at the main gates of the horse park. So do I have to go way over to the horse park to buy admission tickets for Rolex or do they sell them at the walk up entrance near the water complex??? you know the food vendors are off to the left, the water pond is on your right and a road over the damn in front of you w/ the gate person collecting tickets.

Holly Jeanne
Apr. 19, 2004, 08:05 AM
NRB: Sounds like you mean the parking area by the camping entrance. If that is correct and if they haven't changed anything, you can buy general admission tickets at that gate. That's my plan. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I'm pretty sure now that I will be at the Trakehner booth (Main Tent - Booth #2) on Friday from around 11:30 - 1:00 and again from around 2:00 - 4:00.

Since I'm there in "official" capacity, I don't usually have the time frame to make the get togethers, but if you see a ridiculously tall brunette wandering around in the press areas, that would be me. Say hi--but just not when I'm pointing the camera at somebody, LOL.

I'll try to pop my head in pre-stumble, but doubt I can actually go on the stumble.

Thank you Jess, I’m blushing! We will miss you this year. Yes, you can count on me for SB updates. I brought my computer on the off chance I would have internet access and they do have it here at the campground. Still plenty of campsites available, we are in 159 if anyone wants to stop by. They did just tell me that they expect that all the sites with hookups will fill up today or tomorrow.

It is windy and raining this afternoon. This morning was beautiful. The news channel says that it is going to rain tomorrow and then be pretty the rest of the week. We are headed over to the park in a little while to see what is going on. We did the blue grass driving tour this morning and saw some of the most incredible farms. We are scheduled to tour Calumet tomorrow afternoon. Haven’t decided yet about 3 Chimneys, does anyone recommend it? This is the first year that we have gotten here before Wednesday, it is also the first year that we have camped.

Let me know if anyone has any specific questions before you get here and I will try to find the answers for you. Someone posted earlier about where to buy tickets and I will try to find that out.

What a wonderful vacation. -Terry

However, there is a PROBABILTY that Reese will be staying home. For those who don't know Reese, http://www.ultimatedressage.com/phpBB/album_pic.php?pic_id=1017 He's been coming to Rolex with me for several years now. He'll be 11 years old on May 2nd... quite an accomplishment for a Newfie. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed just last week with Diabetes Insipidus -- basically the vet believes the gland in his brain isn't producing the necessary hormone for his kidneys to concentrate his urine -- meaning lots of water in (and lots of water "out"). I'm just not sure trapsing around KHP will do him any good (he regularly laps up over 8 liters of water just laying around the house all day). I'm waiting to hear from teh vet today after his conversation with the internist, but I just don't think he's going to make it down this year. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/cry.gif

I actually KNOW where Brunswick is and I have BEEN there!http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif(St Simons)We were looking for a 7th and 8th person to go with us.We started out with eight and have ended up with six.The cool part is that I will be meeting an old friend whom I haven't seen in 20 years. I had posted on COTH last year looking for her.DMK replied and said she was a friend of hers and ex room mate in college!Gave her my ph number and we've been emailing ever since and now meeting up at Rolex. She will be staying with us at the hotel.

tle and joliemom
How many are normally stumbling around on the course walk ? I think you need to leave Reese home sadly as it may be. Sounds like she would be more comfortable. A great picture of you and her!

We are leaving at 6:am and thinking it will take at least 10 hours to get there. We are staying at the Holiday Inn South.Anyone else staying there?

The Stumble

History
In 2003, Maria, Matt, and joliemom were waiting for Miss TLE to walk us around the course. It was late in the afternoon, and being members ticket holders, our little group made sure to get their $$s worth from the open bar.

Matt and joliemom had switched off to brown liquor of the bourbon sort when a Lexus rep drove up in a golfcart and asked if we'd like to test drive one of their fine vehicles. We declined saying, "you don't want us driving anything." They insisted and said we'd each receive a free hat. What the hell, we drove their vehicles around the little off track course, giggling like school girls. Matt was informed not to return.

TLE arrived, gave us a look that said, "you poor pitiful f*%#ups." Reese also gave the same look and I nearly felt shame, but remembered he's a dog and licks hisself clean.

Off we stumbled. And laughed. It was all very spontaneous.

Flash forward nearly 365 days and we're about to repeat what has now become The Stumble.

The Stumble Plan
Meet outside the Members area at 5 since that's when the bar closes. By 5:15 we'll proceed in a disorderly fashion, making our way to jump 1. If you miss us, it's not like we're an EcoChallenge Team, just listen for the giggliest group and there we'll be.

If you're with a real group and become tired, just drop back and wait for us, then fall in.

Requirements
Drink in hand.
Sense of humor along with sensible shoes.
Pictures without flash, please. Matt startles easily.

Words of Advice
What goes on during The Stumble, stays on the Stumble. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

Now for another question... the weather is forecasted to be warm, with chances of thunderstorms every day. As one of my biggest phobias is being struck by lightning (has almost happened several times so I run inside at the first hint of thunder, I am a BIG chicken), is there anywhere safe (i.e. not metal stands or tents) to escape the weather? Or do people just make mad dashes for their cars?

http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif The stumble sounds like the S Georgia group ideal meeting. Most of our get togethers start with liquid refresment (margarita's http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif). Our pre Rolex gathering centered around who was bring what food and alcohol.

Can we please gatecrash, we promise to act in the most appropriate manner. i.e. stumble, giggle but at all times maintain a ladylike decorum in other words won't spill a drop. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hi,
I've been lurking for a while & finally registered.
We leave for Rolex tomorow! I think this is like our 18th year.
If you see us on cross-country, say hi. If the weather's nice, we're the people with WAY too many pins on our cowboy hats. If it's pouring down rain, we'll still be out there, just dressed in blue rainslickers & rain pants.
For dressage & show jumping, we'll be in the Sponsors tent (and the trade fair).
We'll be looking for COTHER badges.

I have heard varied reports for the weekend, which is better than solid, 100% chance of rain... the weather here is so crazy, I am not counting on anything until the day of!

Expect intermittent thundershowers thru Friday. Otherwise, it will just be drizzling rain. Good news, is that the highs are gonna be in the upper 70's. Bad news is that Lexington was just ranked 16th in the nation for allergy problems.

Anyway, all the horses that I saw passed, but the next-to-last pair, Jessica Shuler/The Alchemist, were held for re-inspection. At that point, the weather became torrential and I walked back to my office (I had to be presentable for the rest of the day!).

The weather is NOT playing nice here in Lexington, which is a total shame, because it really has been absolutely gorgeous here lately. Now they are calling for not only t-storms tomorrow, but severe t-storms.... nice. However, the outlook is looking better for Saturday, which is what we all REALLY care about. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Also, I would not count on the live webcam for dressage. It has been so spotty in the past, and I can't find anything on the site that points to them doing it again this year, but I could be wrong. Under the "Latest News" section of the site is this paragraph:

Today @ Rolex

Our "Today @ Rolex" site will be "live" Wedesday evening. Aspects of the Today @ Rolex site include the Virtual Coursewalk, "live" audio from our announcers, Send Email to Riders, another email section where online viewers will be able to ask questions of riders. Selected emailed questions will be answered by the riders. We will focus on using a wide variety of riders and questions. And of course, scoring, as always will be "live". The Photo Gallery will also be part of the Today @ Rolex site, and our goal is to have at least one photograph of each rider on each day posted to the Photo Gallery.

Hey, you all wouldn't happen to know if Stephen Bradley jogged up with both From and Brandenburg's Joshua would you? I was just checking the Rolex site and saw that Josh was not on the entry list anymore and wondered if that was just a typo or something, Thanks!

Nevermind, Stephen called last night to tell us what was going on and said that he had to scratch Josh. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

The weather here is awful right now. I could barely see to drive home.

Weather underground said "chance of thunderstormS" for Thursday and then "chance of A thunderstorm" on Friday and Saturday.

I am taking that to mean only one storm on Friday and Saturdayhttp://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gifhttp://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Quick update on Kentucky weather ... I'm 60 miles south of Lexington. It's been raining since early this morning, varying between torrential and "light but steady" ...

The system that's producing all this is not supposed to be out of the area until Monday.

We'll be at the Red Roof in North...pretty basic, but they take pets and are close to the Park.

I'll try to make The Stumble, depending on the people who I have in tow. If they are hungry, I might be overruled. But, look for a short gal with a happy Lab with a blue harness...I love to meet people.

I'm so glad to see that Jessica sailed through the reinspection. We rode together in the same group lesson at Penrose when we were young. She had a cute pony named Wrinkles.

oh, and cosequin got smarter lol after last year when the entire country rushed their tent for those buckets... they have three pallets of buckets now, stacked behind the tent to give away. i think they realized the futility of denying the devoted horsepeople the all powerful Cosequin wash bucket http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif

Hi all,

Have not had time to read the email, camp store closes in 20 minutes. Amy Tryon is leading the modified division by a good margin. She is at 42 and no one else has broken 50.

Jess, SB had a really nice test with Magic but the judges were pretty harsh with him. He has a 59.something. His half passes were the prettiest of the day, but had some trouble with the flying changes. Sally O'Conner had very nice comments about him. He rides Blackout tomorrow.

For the 4* William Fox Pit is in the lead and Abigail is in second.

It has rained all day! I am going to go dry out now. Will post tomorrow.

BTW saw Canterlope today (who I already know) but have not met any other COTHers. Understand Hitchinmygetalong is working on Saturday in the Members tent. Will look for her.

So Natalie is in first place in the modified and I believe Darren is in second.

In the 4* Kim Severson is in first and I believe Phillip moved up to second (I was at the Jimmy Wofford saddle fit). We had some very interesting rides today. Shannon Ewing did a great job to keep her horse in the area. I believe she had a 90. Will Coleman also had a very challenging ride but ended up with a 78.something.

Some very nice rides and some very interesting ones. The riders are thinking that the footing is going to be ok tomorrow. They moved the modified cross country to the afternoon in hopes that the course will dry out some.

Jess, I don't know if you have heard but Sailing shattered his ankle. He is at Rood and Riddle and hopefully will make it through to continue to be able to breed. He is not dead as I understand has been incorrectly reported on this forum somewhere. Keep him in your thoughts that they can keep him alive. So happy that I have a darling colt by him.

Sooooo Frustrating -- On the news last night, they said that the order of go for x/c was changed due to the weather and that the best placings in dressage would go first. Today on the official site, all I could find out was that that **** and the Modified were switched between morning and afternoon.

Does anyone know where to find a list of start times for x/c?

The only list of start times I see is the one that was posted on the Rolex website yesterday... if it was changed last night, that's not shown there. Although the 4-star horses do seem to be going first, it still looks like the original order of go is being used, not the dressage leaders starting off.

I wish the scoreboard were being updated more quickly! The only horses I see updated are the ones that are out, not the ones that have completed XC... http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif

Up to date times are on the Rolex site now.
As for Buzzby & Topspin, I'm guessing the conditions caused the withdrawal.

Also posted under Dressage results:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> I can help w/ xc results.
Lots of run outs & falls.
As of about 15 minutes ago, Ab Lufkin was in the lead and the only one to go clean & fast.
Bruce & Tricky went clean but w/ about 7 time faults.
Phillip fell at the sunken road w/ his first horse, but both are OK, but did not finish.
Polly Stockton fell off at the bank, but seemed to be OK, though she did not get up while I was on the phone. OK, meaning that there didn't appear to be anything desperately wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised at broken bones from what I heard.
The Rolex scoreboard shows both Buzzby & Topspin have been withdrawn, looks like prior to starting.
Could be b/c of the mud. It rained basically non-stop for at least 2 days, and the mud was quite nasty from what I understand.
Also withdrawn is Adrenaline Rush & Shannon Ewing. As You Like It was retired, as were Gringosch & Debbie Rose. Riverdance & Lellie Ward were eliminated.
Ralph Hill just fell at the bank, apparently suffering an injury to his shoulder. Which is a rarity for Ralph. He hardly ever falls off, let alone gets hurt! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Kim & Dan went clean & very fast, Bruce clean on his second horse, Julie & Jake went clean, David went clean, Kim Morani went clean & fast, Becky Douglas retired at the second water.
Meicha Decher didn't go.
William Fox-Pitt went clean, but had a scary moment at the bank.
As for time, the only ones I'm sure about are Kim Severson & Kim Morani have no time.
