They're just about done whacking down pine trees where I hope to build an arena one day. While they were here clearing for the barn, it made sense to do that also, even though I can't start on the arena yet.

So... what should I do with it? It's about 150x200 on a natural high spot. They're going to grade it with a crown running down the long center.

It will likely be at least a year before I start on the arena, I still have to do fences/shelters/barn.

If I plant grass, will I regret it later when I can't get rid of it in the arena? I think I have to plant something, it's slick clay and the erosion will be bad otherwise.

I'd love to use it for turnout, but see above re: slick clay, I'd probably have to do something to the footing, which doesn't make sense if I'm going to scrape it all off later.

Thanks for advice and ideas!

I personallly would just do the clearing and then leave it as is till you are ready other wise you will have to spend money twice prepping it.
