This past weekend, I took the big step back to riding. My dear, dear friend Amy Zaiser rode Rasta in a lesson with Lellie (more to come about that fabulous clinic! ), and then as the lesson was ending we just quietly went over to the side, and Amy gave me a leg up...I've said this over and over since that moment, I never cried when I broke my neck, but once on Rasta's back, the tears flowed. This picture is about 30 seconds into my first ride back, 6 months exactly to the day of the accident. I know all of you who have been through this with me, will understand and be happy with me. I have a long, long way to go, but it's started!

RFI-

While I don't know you personally I have followed your recovery on COTH, and it's so unbelieveably great to see you back on a horse!!! Here's to you, and your amazing strength to go though hell and back! In many ways I think you're still wearing a halo

How did you feel, physically -- emotionally I know it was LARGE but can you describe how it felt with your body -- did you feel strong enough?

Maybe it's the cocktail (or hormones :D ) but that's got me all choked up, too.

Yay! Keep at your PT and keep on recovering. I bet your boy Rasta was happy to have you back aboard, even for a couple minutes of tackwalking Mom.

So, so thrilled for you. I just went through a career-ending injury with my horse, and while it was him not me that was hurt, there is so much emotion in finally being able to get back on. It feels like a piece that's been out of place sliding back into its spot, like coming home to sit in your favorite chair after a trip so long you forgot just how comfortable it is.
There may be setbacks along the way, but you are back in the saddle. It only gets better from here!

Congratulations!! I have two friends who had broken their necks (one in a car accident and one riding) and they are both back to riding and competing and doing great. Wishing you the same!!

I am thrilled for you. Here's to many, many more hours in the saddle to come.

Could NOT have made it all these months without your encouragement and experience in all the "who do I ask about CLOTHES?" and "this sheepskin vest is itching so bad I'm going to go beserk (as if there wasn't this contraption bolted into my skull to take care of THAT! )" issues. as well as the middle of the night wondering, "will I ever get ok?". Hope to meet you in person!!!!

Thanks to all of you for the well wishes and so much encouragement and caring. The horse community has been absolutely THERE for me all along the way. I'm just very, very lucky to have made it back - xoxoxox Lynda
