I know it is better to give than receive but...
Is anyone else sad that they haven't gotten a Secret Santa gift yet? I am sure it is just delayed in the mail, but I am actually really looking forward to getting something. I hope it comes soon. I don't want to get Bumpkined. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sadsmile.gif

I don't think I will be Bumpkin'ed. My secret Santa emailed me about 10 days ago to say that she existed and was working on it. But its not here yet.... Unless it is a wreath. I have gotten so many wreaths this Christmas that they are stacked in their boxes by the back door. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
My mother arrives the 23rd, so I still have 3 days to make this place look Christmas-y. But I got a great deal yesterday on a tree. It is 6 - 7 feet tall and is a nice tree and I got it at Lowes for $5.00!!!!!! SOME people around here have paid $80 for their tree.... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif But they shall remain nameless.
So I figure that I have saved $75. Now, what can I spend it on?

My secret santa said she didn't want to do it. Giving is better, and it was fun to pick a gift out, but it was a little dissapointing that I didn't get one of my own.

yeah, I am getting bummed too! I havent heard from my SS in over a month. I do love to give, but I thought the point of a SS is to exchange gifts. I used to get excited every day when I get home, looking for a box, but now I just get down, figuring I am getting skunked!
Hate to say it, but I may have to pass next year.
My SS way up in Can should be getting (or just have) hers any day now. Of course this is according to the US Post Office, so we'll see. Hope that is the case with my own SS.

I think if any of us do get "bumpkined" this year we should just regroup after the new year and pair up so that everyone gets something. We could always do secret valentines, lol!
I'm still waiting for mine too . . . no emails, no package yet . . .

Haven't heard from my ss but have distracted myself each evening by going on the web and watching will all the thrill of a rail-bird, the parcel I sent to <my> ss, snail its way through the USPS and arrive at my ss's house; they have TRIED to deliver but I think need my SS's SSSignature! But my box crossed the Santa Finish Line on time, if not a new course record! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yeah this just makes my crappy year complete. Never heard from my SS at all. I am truely happy for those who received. I am. Not to make anyone else as depressed as I am, but I am not surprised. I am sure it was just an over sight. No biggie. I am quite used to this happening to me. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif
Merry Christmas to everyone. I do mean it. Have a Happy and safe New Years as well. I willbe enjoying it in the Bahamas. This is something I am doing for MYSELF...for once. I am going with my girl-friend. She is leaving her daughter with her father, and my kid's are staying with their father. Hopefully I will feel better when I get back.

Please be patient with us Canadians.
I mailed mine out Canada Post, sall package airmail(fastest option), the week of Dec 1 like instructed, and was told it wouldn't arrive till yesterday or the day before (Thurs or Fri 18th or 19th). Yeah. Airmail. Over Two weeks. My other option was over a MONTH!!!
In contrast, my heavy bulky large parcel to my mom went ground and reached her in three days...
Please let me know if anyone gets Bumpkined, I'd also be happy to help.
Has anyone sent PeriWinkle Blue a gift for organizing this thing? PB, can we have your address??

Here's a question for those of us who have not received anything.
If you don't receive any gift, are you going to sign up for this again?
Just curious
If I don't get anything, that's ok. I don't want anyone to think they have to make up for it. Besides whatever I had on my list, I will eventually get for myself. No biggie.

Wow, this year a lot of people seem to be on the verge of getting grinched. Let us hope that the post is just slow and hasn't reached them yet. Don't despair yet!
However, if Christmas rolls around and you still have not received a gift or heard from your SS, please email me (in my profile). I will try and set everyone up with others who have been grinched, in the hopes that this time around everyone will receive a gift.
I wish I could pick up the slack for everyone who might get grinched, but vxf111 and In Your Dreams on top of Weatherford is about as far as my budget is going to stretch. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
Anyway, folks, email me after Christmas if you still haven't received anything, but don't abandon all hope just yet - you still have three mailing days before THE Day!

A few things to consider.....
It's Christmas time. The post office is slightly busier than normal. Five, maybe six other people are using them for gift delivery.
A lot of us are from Canada and those sleigh dogs picking up your gifts from our snow huts and running them down to the border are being closely examined and delayed by President Bush. Dog poops are considered a biological threat, I think.
Your present may have gone out late because your Secret Santa was in a major depression after Rupert got voted off the island.
My donkey ate your gift. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/uhoh.gif
Your Secret Santa was Saddam Hussein, your present was left in the hole and you will never get it. You will however, be able to sell your story for 100K to the tabloids.

Now Now Now little people!!! Do not dispair!!
It's been a little rough getting that silly sleigh off the roof for poor old Santa this year and that has kept A LOT of the little Secret Santa's busy just pushing the darn thing!!
Seems every year the old fogy gets fatter and we have to push harder to get him in the air..GEEZ!!
BUT he just got done with his test drive of the reindeer so we can all get back to PRESENTS!!
If you have not gotten your "GOOD STUFF" yet, please email me (or PT) with your name, screen name and address so I can follow up..seems a few of the little rotten Secret Santa's have lost thier paperwork....and therefore I HAVE THEIR PRESENTS HERE!!
Send me your name, screen name, address and I will sit all day long tomorrow (SUNDAY) and match the cross overs...and slap silly those Secret Santa's that are just lazy little elfs!!
PS...be sure to send me your email cause that's how we track this stuff....lots of folks want their goodies so we will look into it...
AND AND AND...
A very special message to World Class..honey your stuff is on the way!! Your Santa emailed me and was frantic her stuff is not at your door....
Your post about your horse just broke her heart and she wants you to know YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!!
ALSO...Celebrity..yours is a bit of a special order and that darn Santa loaded it on the bottom of his sleigh so it may be a day or two late...but it will be worth it!!!
Your Secret Santa says..."hang on tootsy..it's a comin down the chimmney SOON!!!"
If there are other Santa's who can't figure out the "alter name" thing to pst, just let e know and I will pass on the message...

Speaking of Talloaks, Dobby has been a very bad elf to her. Dobby knew that Christmas was coming, and Dobby even finished his shopping for Talloaks early. But Dobby was recently released from a house-elf position, so while he was out shopping he bought himself some phat new clothes and went on a bender at all the hottest elf clubs. Then Dobby was so hung-over he couldn't manage to mail Talloaks her package until last Thursday.
Dobby just needed to tell Talloaks that he is very, very sorry. Dobby was bad. Very Bad. Dobby had to iron his hands.

Well I feel very proud, myself and my co-workers (We are police officers) went to a call Monday night where a house had been burglarized. The intruders stole ALL the children's X-mas presents, threw the X-mas tree outside and took all the TV's in the house. They have 3 children ages 1,5,7 They do not have a large income-they had put all the gifts on layaway for the last 7 months. The came home after delivering their part time Newspaper route to find this. The children were in tears as well as the parents. Well we collected donations from fellow officers totalling $180. I drove to Wal Mart last night and they were awesome. They let us get a 19" color TV for $55, and all the toys for 50% off. We got the TV, a George Foreman grill (the wife had purchased that originally for her husband as his gift) they gave it to us for $19.99, each child got 5 toys each (really fun stuff and for the baby we got some educational toys as well that were pretty pricey. We are delivering the gifts tonight- I can't wait to see their face- we went by this morning to see if there were any gifts under the tree-and NONE. (The tree was still bent from where they tossed it across the room) So our police Dept. on midnight shift is their Secret Santa-hopefully the kids will remember this and grow up to be respectful citizens. (This is in a community where they dislike the police-project area). Wal Mart is commended for their service- the bill should have been over $400. ( I spent from 1am to 3:30 am shopping and had a ball!)

I just mailed off a little package to a female soldier whose name I got from an email list of those serving and feeling lonely. Made me feel so good to pick out some nice toiletries and candy. To keep it horse related, I sent her a picture of Daisy wearing a baby blue scarf in the pasture. (Nothing more stunning than a dark bay standardbred in ice blue!)

I'm just jumping in here, I'm not on anyone's SS list, or anything. I stopped shopping for Christmas presents years ago, because i got fed up with the commercialism of it all. Now, I have a big party for all of my friends, I bake batches and batches of cookies, and we have a great time. People come early, and stay late. They start calling me in August, to make sure I'll be having it. Yes, I decorate, put up a tree, but no gift. Unless I see something very appropriate for someone. It's taken a lot of pressure off of everyone else, too. Now we all actually enjoy Christmas! It also makes a gift, if it does come, that much more special. It wasn't bought just for the sake of buying.

Hi Guys.
I think that the Secret Santa idea is really nice. I unfortunately can't play, because it wouldn't be fair to the person having to send me a gift... I am in Europe, and the postage would cost more than the gift.
However, PeriwinkleBlue, please let me know if anyone gets grinched out of a present, especially someone who sent one out.
I would like to help make sure everyone gets a gift. I will have it sent within the US (LOVE the internet!)

You all might be surprised at how many Christmas angels are police officers. My husband is one of them. When he was working the streets, there was always at least one hard luck story every Christmas that he personally stepped in to fill the bill on. He always had the same hope as Hunter_Rider - that the kids would grow up and remember that cops are not the enemy. Two years ago, he was notified of a family that had three small children and not enough money to even get a Christmas tree - husband was starting new job after Christmas, they had just moved here, broke. Their furniture consisted of a card table for the kitchen and two lawn chairs in the living room. Our family got together and got them a Christmas tree with decorations, gifts for the kids - you should have seen how delighted they were! My sister had a couch and chair she was going to sell and delivered it to them, and we got them gift certificates to the grocery store so they could have a nice Christmas dinner along with other things. We bought the parents a nice set of towels and sheets which the wife was so excited about - said she had never had new towels before. It's really giving that fills your heart.

Well, I am on both sides of this one!! I sent mine late (sorry) and haven't yet received mine.
For those who have given up: remember that the mail is a lot slower right now. I sent mine last week Monday, and the optimistic time frame for it was 5-14 days. That is a huge range, and with weekends and holidays added in, I'm worried it won't arrive til after New Year's!! (But it was either that or triple the postage for courier).

Well last night we delivered the gifts...it gets even better. The City Manager and Chief of Police found out what we were doing and many more people bought gifts, including bicycles and gift cards (the children's clothing was also taken). Our Crimebusters van came and picked up all the gifts which appeared to probably amount close to $1000, 20 of us drove our police cars to their house at Midnight and knocked on the door. The father answered in his briefs-so an officer told him he has company and to get dressed. We brought in the gifts, the Newspaper was there as well (The Virginian Pilot). Both parents were in tears and the children were in shock!! The only furniture in their house were 3 folding chairs in the LR.It is to be in the newspaper tomorrow for their Christmas Story. The blue lights were activated on the Crimebusters truck while Christmas Music played over the intercom. It was a sight to be seen, and a memorable moment in my career.

That is awesome! You & your department & everybody involved are wonderful giving people. Honestly, you probably will never have a clue how much this meant to that family.
I hate when people do things at the holidays to others. In Chicago a group had about 200 toys collected to give to children at 3 hospitals & of course it all was stolen! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif But due to the outpouring of support & compassion, over 2,500 toys have now been collected and 32 MORE hospitals will be given toys in addition to the original 3. Ok, so I've been doubly Grinched... no SS gift AND I got the Flu on Sunday and my temp has not been below 101.4. Monday I had 105.3 and wished I could have crawled from out of this horrible, hot wet skin http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/dead.gif
Last night my Husband started with the same symptoms I had. And by 10pm my 15 month old was coughing. This afternoon he had a 102.4 temp http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.
So Christmas at Toby's Moms' house is going to be postponed - indefinately. There will be no family gathering at the in-laws (YEAH!). There will be no 1 hour trip to visit my Dad & then another hour to visit my Mom & Grandmom. Just a family coughing, wheezing, shivering, sweating - well, you get the drift.
Who knows, maybe my SS gift will eventually arrive. Sad to think how much time some of us put into getting really neat things for our giftee, only to be left out. I had heard from my SS that she ordered it, but then it was BO'd, so she would order something else. Not heard anything since. And funny thing is that Periwinkle Blue put us as each other's SS, so I know (by the mail receipt) that my SS got hers. I am sad, really sad - Not to mention SICK.
Well, this is a Christmas to note in my Son's Baby book. Remember 2003 when Mommy got sick, then she gave it to Daddy & you.

So, I may be one of the guilty parties. I sent an e-mail to sign up for Secret Santas ages ago. Then I saw a second post about starting over the signup process, and didn't do it the second time. I haven't read any of the Secret Santa posts, because I figured I wasn't doing it. When I got home yesterday, I had an adorable package with a great Secret Santa gift in it, and now I'm worried I was supposed to send one, but I've never gotten an e-mail or anything saying to whom I should have sent it http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif So, if someone will e-mail me and tell me who to send something to, I'd be more than happy to send a gift, although it wouldn't quite make it for xmas. PerwinkleBlue- after the new year passes can you post the names of the scrooges that stiffed everyone in Secret Santa? Really, I am curious to know who it was. Not that it matters, I guess. I am pretty annoyed with it because I felt horrible that my secert santa gift was shipped on December 5th (late) and I didn't want my person to be upset. Even at that, she still got hers by the 10th! Of course, then I got grinched. Since this is an optional activity, I don't know why people sign up if they aren't going to follow through. My person never even made contact once to tell me that they were working on it. Oh well. I am a grown up and I will get over this. Fairweather is right. Give it some time, guys - life gets in the way occasionally. I should know - my first SS swap (on a different board) ended with my finally mailing the gift in July of the following year. Now that's bad! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif
What I would like to do is wait until the first week of January. If presents still haven't arrived by that point, then I want you to email me with your username, real name and money amount you signed up for. At that point, I will start contacting your partners and finding out what's going on.
I AM sorry that your prezzies still haven't arrived and Christmas is over - that really makes me feel bad. But look at it this way - if you do really get grinched, then just take Fairweather and Bumpkin's example to heart. Sign up again next year, and I guarantee you'll get more than one gift to make up for it! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
The first week of January, I will start a new thread asking for all grinched COTHers to email me and let me know. Until then, take heart - it might just be in the mail! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Yipppeeee!! Today when I returned from the holidays I had a package from khobstetter - I suspect she may have been kind enough to take on an additional SS person when some packages had not arrived, so if that is the case, extra thanks for that too!
I had a great goodie box - some chocolate for me, two nice h/j coffee mugs, a funny fuzzy horse pen, and a great picture frame that I will promptly put to use!! It was a nice box to come home too. Thanks so much!
My fingers are crossed that others are receiving some post-holiday presents, but if you need additional SS's let me know and I will shop again!

Well I give up trying to find out if my person (Ash) got their gift. I posted both in SS threads and individual ones in November asking for more information on her horses - no replies. I PTed her asking some questions and that PT self deleted when it was ignored. I've PTed again to see if she's received her gift and even though I can tell there have been more views than the ones done by me - no response at all.

It's no fun when you're being ignored.
Thanks Mrs Mouse for all your efforts putting this together. It was at least fun reading the thread of those that received gifts or at least got some feedback about the gifts they sent.

Let me see if I've got this Santa business straight. You say he wears a beard, has no discernible source of income and flies to cities all over the world under cover of darkness? You sure this guy isn't laundering illegal drug money?

MrsMouse, add me to that list of people who are willing to send an extra SS gift. I won't mind more shopping... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Don't give up hope!! My partner has yet to recieve her gift and I feel terrible about it. I have had a horrible cold, then the flu and now I have a bad sinus infection that just won't go away - hurt so much, my teeth hurt. Anyway, I have also been having marriege problems, and was seperated from my husband for 3 months with no credit card. Sorry this is turning into a huge vent, but please don't loose hope if you have yet to get a gift - I may be your partner. I promise though, you will NOT be grinched!!

This is my last post to close a day I didn't want to have happen.
To end it on a constructive note, with no judgement towards anyone; we should all give thanks to whoever if the worst thing that happens to us in '03 or '04 for that matter, is to recieve one less gift.
There are worse things that can happen to a body.
And it is the giving that counts. And the folks who are brave enough to organize an opportunity to do so!
They have my appreciation, and COTH. And if someone was "bumpkined", you had the tiny thrill in a scary time, of thinking and wishing something happy for a stranger and there found the magic of the season. And that is what it is all about.
love to all on COTH, June

I guess my original post comes from my total disappointment. I did buy a gift for someone. I read what they sent in to Secret Santa and bought a gift that I was sure they would like. I carefully wrapped it, packed and shipped. I waited for them to post that they got it. I even developed an alter to post occassionally to let them know that a gift was coming. It was lots of fun. From that experience- I am satisfied.
However, I was sad that there wasn't someone out there who did the same for me. They didn't take the time to follow through and it stinks. So, my only comment is that if someone is going to sign up for this process, then there is no reason not to do their part. We get the names in November. If they are too busy, etc, they do not have to participate. It's that simple.

Just to let anyone who was grinched know, there was a bit of a mix-up with a couple of the partner matches at the start of the swap. I had thought everything was straightened out early on but it seems one stray wrinkle was left!
I ended up receiving an extra Secret Santa gift that truly was supposed to go to someone else. PeriwinkleBlue is aware and will let me know who to send this along to when she sorts all the details out.
So until then I have your present in safekeeping!

Well, I said I'd wait until January to start feeling bad about not hearing from my SS and lo and behold, there was package on my doorstep to "Rugbug." Soooooo fun. It doesn't say who it's from, but it was a very fun package. Many thanks to whoever it was!!!!
And for those who haven't received anything yet...don't give up hope. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Well!!! I got an interesting e-mail last night.... so please read this!!
My SS PT'd me way back in October, so I just couldn't understand why my package hadn't yet arrived. I e-mailed Periwinkle Blue Saturday, and got a reply from my SS Sunday. Turns out she sent the package a couple days before the deadline (i.e. a whole month ago!!).... from the U.S. to Canada.
Those wonderful border-guards apparently think that one of the items in my package, a multi-tool of some kind, is a terrorist device, and have confiscated my package.... at least that's what my SS and I have concluded.
Sooooo... I'll be phoning the Post Office/border today to see how far I can get with solving this one.
Thanks in advance to Sobriska, my SS, who tells me I have a great package - on its way...

Whoo hoo~ finished exams at last!
~ More leg, less hand. ~
I, like Blugal, live in Canada and am assuming that the customs officials are having a blast with some fabulous package destined here for the great not-so-white North. I haven't yet heard from my SS, but maybe someone's watching the board now just waiting for the package to arrive?
But, on the other hand, like June said. If this is the worst thing that happens this month, let alone this year, we're still good here chez DH. It was a ton of fun shopping for Freebird and I still have that impending Christmas excitement thing going on when I check the mailbox http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Poor Sobriska. She was my Secert Santa and she was really nice. I am sure she was upset when hers never arrived. At least you know it was always on it's way and you have a funny story to tell. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif My person hasn't ever contacted me- not once. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
