View Full Version : In Memorium - Horses We Have Loved

Since tomorrow is Memorial Day I thought we could have a thread to remember some of the great horses that have touched our lives. I realize that this really isn't the purpose of Memorial Day, and I mean no disrespect. I just thought this could be nice.

My horse, Vanadiun, died this past November of colic. He was a rockstar and my horse of a lifetime. Any horse that could pack me around was worth his weight in gold.

Here he is at age 3, still in Europe: http://clipshack.com/Clip.aspx?key=67A0D5CDD9F06464

(He really wasn't as small as he looks in this video. The rider is 6'6")

Here he is at age 4. Our first ride together. http://s91.photobucket.com/albums/k281/saturdaynightliveak/?action=view&current=MVI_0214.flv

And his first time through a gymnastic.

And unfortunately I don't have anything more recent than that. I never could afford horse show photos and the only videos of his horse show career are in the possession of an old trainer.

He is greatly missed.

Anyone else?

Heh, that's actually my clipshack account. I saw that video of him and was IN LOVE, but had to wait on a sale to go through before I could buy him. I'm glad that he spent his life with someone who knew what a rockstar he was.

Small world! He really was an amazing horse. Pretty much the love of my life (he shares that with my eq horse Stewie).

In The Mood (Vinny) - the sale horse that 10 years later my mom & I still had. He did everything we ever asked of him & usually winning too. I credit him for the wonderful relationship I have today with my mother.

Braczen - my dream come true. He was by Alla' Czar who I have drooled over since the late 80's. Sadly lymphoma took him too soon from us (he was only 6) before he really got going with his riding career, but he was so easy & uncomplicated with what little he did do.

Lost both of them last fall only 3 weeks apart. It's better now, but I still have moments where I tear up. I have a feeling this October might be rough.

For Sansibar who passed away on sunday, 10 years old. He had a severe and aggressive form of arthritis in his knees and hocks, there was nothing else we could have done. Cleared 5ft with ease, and never ever hit a rail or refused. He had a big heart and I will never forget him. He never had a chance to prove to others what he could do. This horse was everything I wanted and more than I ever dreamed I would have

And here is a photo (http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v2116/222/37/500990313/n500990313_5575588_110.jpg) of him when we retired him, and he was able to enjoy life for a year as a horse.

Rest in peace Sansibar, the greatest horse I have ever ridden. You will not be forgotten.

I can barely see the keys through all of my tears to type this.

My favorite old school horse passed last October, He was well up into his 30s though his exact age was unknown. He had a mane that could hardly ever be tamed, though on the rare occassion he got braided, he looked good and he knew it!!

Dang girl, that's making me cry. He was a bad ass. Look at him go! Great photos. That second one is a hoot.

Darlin' was my horse I'll always remember fondest. A little appy mare, not super fancy, not super cute. But she taught me tons and was a character. Never thought I'd love another horse like that until Chance came along. Easily her equal in personality, ability and teaching capability.
