Working with the kingpins in DressageWorld, I'm opening up franchise on our corner, right across from the school yard.

I'll start you out:

A 16" maybe W Campbell pancake saddle that is used but can wear white at the wedding, if you take my meaning.

Good pics, pigskin seat. Campbells were made by Whitman (or have some connection to them)-- good quality saddles of the PdN era. The darker stitching on this one makes me think it was born late in the era, around the time that the original Pessoas came out. This would be early 1990s? I don't think W then means really wide by today's standards, but it just might work for someone.

And $95 bucks.

If my butt were smaller I wouldn't even have to ask if my wallet is fat enough.

Please follow the Only Rule needed to keep this thread alive: You cannot hock your own wares.

Looking at the underside picture of this saddle and knowing that regular trees in old Crosby's measure about 4" dot-to-dot, I can't imagine that this same dimension is more than 4.5". In your spot, I'd ask the seller to measure.

Here's a size chart. (http://www.hannoverianridingwear.com.au/images/pikeur/size%20chart.jpg)

I was told by a tack shop that they fit sort of petite as well as small in the shoulders, so I didn't risk it, but it's soooooo lovely.

Re these Ghia coats.

I know what "soft" and "shell" mean. Maybe I can figure out what they mean together. But looking the pic of the hunt coat, what's the appeal exactly?

Please excuse my ignorance. It is currently saving me $600 and the Pain of Want.

My first saddle was a plain flap Campbell, much older than this model. Almost want to buy it, just to torment those who grew up with "Couch" saddles.

Don't understand the hunt coat thing either MVP..

Keep sending the deals.....I have not spent money on the poneighs in quite some time.

This kind of altruism bears comment. The whole "It takes a village to find a deal" thing will work better if we agree to stay out of bidding wars with our brethren.

Please don't play your cards too close to your chest--Selfishly not posting here-- unless you are serious about buying the discovered treasure.

I showed up at a horseshow yesterday to relentlessly driving rain. I sat watching my ring for 3 hours before walking into the on site tack store and buying the Grand Prix coat. This one: http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=X1-40459&ids=844085043

I. LOVE. IT.

It is stretchy, comfy, breathable, waterproof (or water resistant maybe? Not sure, I wore my rain coat into the ring in the end), and the icing on the cake....I crammed it into a shopping bag at the end of the day to carry it out to my car and forgot about it overnight. It stayed wadded up in the bottom until I remembered it was there this morning. I pulled it out, shook it out, and it was ready to go. I rode in it today and it was absolutely heavenly. The fact that I can take it home and wash it is awesome.

It was expensive but absolutely worth the price tag.

OMG. I'm even MORE sold on the thing now! I think I am going to save up and custom order one in black with tan piping. Black and tan are our barn colors, so I think it will look really good and with just piping I can still wear it for medals.

The show series I am doing now has gift certificates for you to trade your blue ribbons in for - $15 each, and I have 10 of them now so I am trying to hoard those for this coat!

Is there more than one New Cavalry? You can still buy New Cavalry tack and it's generally more expensive (IIRC) than Edgewood. I don't think the companies are related (though if they are it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong!)

doublesstable
May. 28, 2010, 01:56 AM
Not horse related but my 18 year old son showed me an internet ad for a 2007 430 Ferrari convertable with 20,000 miles on it for $16,995.00.

I called the dealer and told them I was bringing cash and was picking up the car they had advertised..... of course I knew they would laugh....

I told my son not to get too excited because a "0" must have been missing from the price on the ad.... yeah it was a "9" missing meaning 169,995.00.

No, there is just one New Cavalry. IIRC the rumors correctly, two guys started New Cavalry and made polo equipment first for a minute. This was late 1980s.

Then they invented the hunter bridle that revolutionized everything-- exquisite square raised and raised rein combination, priced at almost double what that the very nice Crosby standard cost. The broke the $300 ceiling for bridles (sold with reins).

Edgewood and New Cavalry guys broke up, with the NC guy being around, then not, then open for business again. Both companies' materials have gone through good and bad periods. As you say, you can still order stuff from NC.

I'm happy when I find New Cavalry tack floating around. I personally haven't seen a bad piece of it.

John, the NC guy, plays polo himself (or at least he used to.) He had a big shop full of the old-school equipment used to make the bridles and other tack, but it's been shut down and warehoused any number of times. He has had some difficulty coming up with a distribution model that works, although there is no doubt he was the pioneer when it came to pricing. The last time I spoke to him - which was quite a few years ago - he was still talking about there being a market for thousand dollar bridles. I think that "market" is quite limited personally, too limited to support a production effort... but he doesn't have too many options to sell through retailers anymore.

There is no doubt that NC's stitching is among the very best in the industry. I don't personally love the color of my NC bridle but it is certainly well made. Although I do wish that it had a few more of the "mod cons" ... like a buckle guard on the noseband. Really, for that price, I don't want to have to go aftermarket.

Oh, that is great to know!

I just couldn't bring myself to spend the $$$$ on the GP sight unseen (and I am a huge Pikeur fan) so I bought the Amira version for $374... here's hoping they are similar and I like mine as well as you like yours!! I got navy with azure blue piping. Loved the fact that you could select the jacket color and piping separately... kind of a semi custom deal. Since I figure I will be using it in the rain also, I passed on the velvet collar, but that would have been another option...

This properly goes on the Tackoholics thread, but I can't resist. So how does it look? Gold leaf? Otherwise substantially beautiful?

If you guys want to talk expensive and beautiful, you need to get into rawhide bosals and such. But that's another thread and tack genre.

A sad bit of news...I won the Der-Daus...now the seller is refusing to send them to me! She claims her husband, behind her back, gave them to her niece. Does this seems weird to anybody but me? 'Cause like hey, why not say, auntie made a binding deal to sell them and snookums gotta give 'um back? You know, grown-ups play like that sometimes LOL. My money's on, she figured out where she could get better bank for Der-Daus, is what. And yes, she had no seller rating, but you know what, the boots were the perfect size for me...sigh. I'd stay away from this one, gang.

Anyone with skinny legs looking for some brown vintage Vogels, an old leather crop and helmet? So here is my big purchase! Grand Prix Shad (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=130397835591&view=all&tid=0)

I don't own one, and I need one because I am going to start doing the "mini classics" at 2'6". Even at the buy it now price, I thought it was a steal. I didn't want to bit and then have someone steal it out from under me at the last minute.

My addition to the thread - RJ Hunt Coat in Grey (http://cgi.ebay.com/size-8-RJ-classic-grey-hunt-coat_W0QQitemZ260613098393QQcategoryZ159007QQcmdZV iewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m445QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DNGRI %252BPSSI%26its%3DI%252BC%252BS%26itu%3DUA%252BUCK %26otn%3D20%26pmod%3D130397835591%26po%3D%26ps%3D6 3%26clkid%3D7971041006079633262#ht_500wt_1143)

With respect to the Prestige saddle noted above, does anyone else have a few questions about it? First, the two pictures of it look like they actually came from the CWD seller as there is are watermarks on the pictures. Second, no information other than what CWD normally lists. And the seller is not Milloutte who posts her. And finally, shipping is only $10?

The seller also post two other saddles with a shipping of $10 each. Sure wish I could ship a saddle for $10.

I assume the seller purchased it from the CWD seller and found out that it didn't fit and is reselling it.

Wish it were a larger size.....

I have no idea on the saddle. I just saw it, wished I had a horse so I could buy it, and moved on. Looking back though - all of those seller's ads look a bit "off" - like you said, I don't know how you can ship a saddle for 10$, and I wish non-stock photos were taken....

Ebay seller only has a "3" feedback, coupled with "borrowed" *cough* photos, and uber-cheap shipping - I wouldn't touch that saddle with a 10 ft pole even though it is one of my dream saddles and it's my size. It just looks shady.

If the saddle fit me, I'd email the seller and ask for pictures of the saddle. But it doesn't...not even close! Too bad, seems like a nice deal, and I know a lot of successful eBayers start low and it gets bid way up. I put some field boots on eBay and started the price at a reasonable number, and got no bids. Relisted immediately with a way low price, and it got bid up above the original starting price  . Who knows? I'm sure there is some psychology involved.

It is really nice, though, and it was pretty neat to get a leather show girth with interchangeable fleece & leather for less than I pay for a synthetic fuzzy one at the tack shop.

It's really pathetic, but I keep looking at the one ending today in the link above and thinking "well eventually the other one will wear out, so I should probably get a spare..."

Yeah, it's like my DH says, "We'll go broke saving all this money!":p

Mine came up with a reasonable idea that has actually been a very good thing. For any 'deal' that I just must. have. I'm required to put up another item for sale. I can't tell you all the ramdom stuff I have sold, mostly through friends but the internet does help. For starters, I've sold 4 Rmabo blankets & 1 Rhino. I've been holding onto the Horseware collection, but they just don't fit my big TB - I did keep some extra blankets around for my 2yr old as there's little point in selling everything only to buy it all over again!- but it's a good way to rationalize things, save money, and get rid of the old stuff you will never use - I looked in my bit box and have triples of some bits ?! I really don't need 3 d-ring segunda's - umm, not a single current horse of mine goes in a segunda...

These funds go towards breeches, bridles, vet bills ...

You must've gotten a steal of a deal then, I actually won these boots, paid 50 total with shipping. They're too tall, and I already got an offer from a friend for 300 for them, they're listed on a bunch of other sites for anywhere between 320-389, just gotta google grand torino field boot.

Just wanted to add - I wish people knew how to use ebay. Horseloverz has a ton of items at 99 cents but people run them up to 40 bucks with 3 days left. If all the bidding happened in the last 5 minutes of the auction like it's supposed to, the price would be a lot lower and you'd get a better deal.

I'm not saying they do, but when you see seasoned ebayers running a bid up DAYS before an auction ends.. it has to make you wonder what the motive is. ~guess I'm just a skeptic . shrug..

eBay monitors this kind of stuff and will bust you on it. You could get away with doing it from the same 2 accounts once or twice, but imagine all the different accounts and IP addresses a big company like Horseloverz would need to bid their own stuff up.
