I have never dealt with a treeless saddle before--am trying a Freeform and have no one to ask for advice...question on placement---closer to withers or farther from withers than a treed saddle? How do I tell if there is enough clearance under pommel? And---I have heard these may slip when mounting--true or not?
Any tips from those with experience would be highly appreciated.

I ride in a Sensation Hybrid Treeless saddle, not a Freeform but I believe that you put the saddle so that where you sit is centered over the natural place you would be sitting when bareback. I hope you are using a breast collar with it too. That will just add another layer of security. You should be able to insert one finger under the pommel while seated in the saddle. To be sure the saddle and pad provide enough clearance you could do a "string test" Instructions: http://www.saddlingsolutions.com/Fitting.html
I also strongly suggest that you join the treeless saddles group on yahoo groups and ask your questions there. Lots of Freeform riders and also some dealers on there: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/treelesssaddles/
Hope this helps.
