What do you do? Do you just pamper your horse and make him look pretty? Or do you go on a hack? Or do you actually do a large workout?

I used to ride normally the night before. The longer I do this and the older I become, I now use the night before for cleaning tack, loading the trailer, getting the boy clean, braiding and what not. Usually useing the time to relax and talk with fellow riders at the barn and my horse is rested for the day ahead.
They way I look at it now, is whatever was going on better be fixed before the night before. The night before is not the time to change or drill anything. I also tend to get a little keyed up these days so best not to sit my tense butt on my horse. That never works out.

Depends on the horse and what show. If it's a schooling show and having brown horses w/ not a lot of white.. don't have to clean them.... they are already kept pretty clean. I always clean tack after I ride anyway.
But I let the horses attitude dictate how much work they need and that seems to work well. If they are goofy and need more work, then so be it. If they are excellent; then we quit - - always on a good note..
Even if it's simple.

I usually hack a bit, just a nice fun ride, load the trailer, double, triple check that everything is good to go. Clean boots, clean tack. Glass of wine. Full nights rest. :)

I try to follow the same daily schedule that I'll have at the show for the 10 days prior to each show. I try to give the horses the day off the day before we leave, and if I do ride it's a long, loose hack. I also do a long, loose hack on the first day of the show for my less-green horses (as opposed to doing schooling rounds over jumps).

Bath and cleaning tack! I never ride the day before a show - my lazy daisy needs to save all her energy.
