The New York Times has a thoughtful essay in the Health section called With AIDS, Time to Get Beyond Blame (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/20/health/20essa.html?ref=health). The writer is a physician who specializes in infection diseases and she mentions DC's case in her discussion of the legal issues surrounding HIV transmission.

The DC case also gets a mention in a related post (http://www.metafilter.com/91246/HIV-is-a-virus-not-a-crime) on the very awesome website MetaFilter.

(I'm not sensationalizing the DC case. I think it's a very sad situation. But the core issues -- HIV/AIDS/disclosure/brain injury -- are too important to ignore.)

If I remember the original articles correctly, the allegations were not simply that Darren did not know/get tested, but that he told his partner he DID get tested and was negative. If these are the charges brought against him, then the case will not precipitate a reluctance for individuals to get tested. That is how I see it.

As the background re: laws affecting the case isn't horse-related, we're going to close the thread. As this topic has gone off the rails numerous times before and isn't horse-related in terms of the charges, we're limiting discussion of the situation/case to how it eventually may affect his involvement in the industry.
