View Full Version : Looking for spotted TB stallion

Ok, so I haven’t been keeping up with the message board very well, but I think I remember a message that said Racey Remarque had been put down/passed away and I believe there were other spotted TB’s that were mentioned as being recently deceased or not offering breeding to outside mares. Can anyone confirm this info?
Now, I have just acquired a TB mare that I would like to breed to a spotted TB. Great attitude and size is important. At least 16.1 hands. I hadn’t previously planned on having a mare to breed, so my time is getting limited to find something for spring and I haven’t done any checking around. If I am going to do it, I want something special, though.
Can you all tell me which ones are still around and contact information, preferably in the US? I don’t want the hassle of international transactions. Thank you all for your help in advance. I figured if anyone would know all of the stallions available, you guys would!! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yep, Racey Remarque was euthanized - here's the thread: http://chronicleforums.com/groupee/forums?a=tpc&s=6656094911&f=3206053911&m=63760539&r=355609001#355609001. I am pretty sure that Red Fox Farm still has a Sabino TB (Timely Roberto, I think) and doesn't the owner of RR have another colored stallion? I know there are others out there, I just don't know them off the top of my head.

I am sure Spot will see this- she has a good list but off the top of my head there is Sato (Spot), Timely Roberto (Red Fox Farm)- they don't have another one that I am aware of, Ellusive Quest (RR full brother but don't know if Nancy plans to stand him next year or not to outside mares), Bright White, a son of Bright White named Wild By Design, and Painted Deserts Airdire Apache. I am sure I am missing some...I have a son of RR but don't plan to stand him to the public anytime soon.

Just realized you were in Ok- RFF would not be that far for you- since they have to LC. Sato is in Canada, AA is in Oregon, BW is on the East Coast somewhere I think and Wild by Design is in Pen I think.

Now I am really curious why you wouldnt use your own stallion ???
One would think if you were looking for "something special" you would promote your own stallion?
Unless you don't like him enough to breed your own mare to him for some reason and dont consider him ***special*** enough?
I am confused ... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
Most people get nice mares to promote their OWN stallions, not look around to promote other ones ...

Thank you all for the links. Hmmm, so far I like Prince Stanley at Painted Desert (always have like that black!!), though I wish RR was still around. Guess I better figure out my budget quickly and allow for shipping expenses out of the area, though, or plan on using vacation time.
If I had a stallion (other than my spotted mini jacks, who are a bit too short and still only weanlings)I would surely breed to him It is hard to find good TB (sporthorse type) stallions in Oklahoma; if you want the 4x4 QH's or Paints they are on every corner, literally. They think 14.2 is big here & 15.2 is huge!! The cowboy types always stare when I ride my 16.3 QH working cattle and then ask what he is.

sorry - I guess I should have said "your mother and father's" stallion rather than "yours". http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
In some posts you promote him as "yours" and in others, you simply state the website for your parents farm as if you were a disinterested 3rd party.
Still - I am curious why, if you are looking for a colored TB stallion, and he is available and close by, why you would not consider breeding this mare of yours to him? NC is not THAT far away, especially if you are considering sending the mare all the way to OR instead!

brokenarrowdj, I have had two Prince Stanley youngsters and they both are doing very well in the showring. One pulled in some great ribbons down at Arizona HITS this past winter. The only downside to some of his offsping is their lack of a long stride. PS is a lovely, large horse but he doesn't have a long stride to go with his size. But I have found that true in many large horses with short backs.

brokenarrowdj- Another colored TB(chestnut sabino) is C Spot Run N, who was previously at Colorworld Farm, but is now standing in Montana with Sevenmile Ranch. You can do a search to find their site. They do ship semen, but of course then you wouldn't be able to get JC papers...

jparkes-thank you for the further info on PS. I guess the short back thing would be okay as long as I'm not breeding a very short-backed mare, which I wouldn't be. A 'longer' mare would, hopefully, even him out for a nice moving foal. Either of my mares are very nice movers, so I think I would be okay there.
Thank you Amy, Patricia and flshgordon for the links and info. I will have to check further on those boys.

I do not believe that I have represented Rambo as my own, although, I guess by family relation he and the other spotted colts of his may be someday. I do, in fact, think that Puchi's Rambo is a very special stallion. He is a great boy to deal with, very kind, personable disposition, great mover, and had good conformation, all of which he is passing to his fabulous foals, one of which I have as my personal riding horse. I would think that you, Spot, would recognize that since he is the sire of your Spotted Up North that has done so very well in the Paint hunters.
Not that it should be anyone's concern, but my two mares are both related to Rambo too closely to breed to him to them. I was looking for a potential outcross that would already be pretty well guaranteed to produce color since my mares already are colored and/or carry the genes.

You mention guarantee colour. What about Norsires cremello... Zillionair. From reading her other posts here, she has said that he is also a Sabino. So you could potentially get a buckskin or palomino sabino foal...

Thanks for the link! I have never been big on cremello or palomino(absolutely no offense to Norsire intended!!), although the stallions are gorgeous!! I love buckskin, but I think it would be iffy to breed for.

Fred,
I like the sound of that. Maybe we could find a palomino WB to put to Miss Viva. That would be super fancy. And then, when it's broke to ride, I will personally polish your custom brown Vogels (we'd never use black on a palomino), and I'd groom her (for some reason she's a mare) within an inch of her life and send you off hacking in an Out of Africa outfit. Then, when you got home, I would have something like cassis and brie waiting.

Robby, have you ever signed those adoption papers???
I remember going to see Out of Africa with one of my rider friends, and watching Meryl in her perfect white silk and white linen shirts, in beautiful twill breeches... at one point she whispered to me, "why don't we ever look like that??"...
I then went through a phase of wearing breeches and boots (old brown field boots) and a white linen or silk shirt (ok, old ones) - of course, I always ended up with green horse goo across the sleeve or my breast......
maybe we should breed Viva to one of those incredibly cute cremello Welsh stallions.. to get something small enough for me to get on unaided??
or maybe Spot will get Sato Sport Horse approved? - for a 15/16 TB filly. (!)
Are any of the Irish horses palomino or cremello?

quote:
What about a Connemara? Aren't they sometimes palomino?

The "red" gene is actually quite uncommon in Connemaras, though the dilute gene is quite prevalent, in the form of buckskin/dun.
So there are not very many purebred palomino Connemaras, but quite a lot of palomino crossbreds (usually when a "dun" Connemara stallion is bred to a chestnut TB mare).

I've seen a picture of a filly bred by a COTH poster that was a Saphiro/TB cross, and that is the most gorgeous buckskin filly I have ever seen.

Gwendolyn, why didn't you mention your guys on this thread??? If you only knew how many times I stopped by your site just to drool. I seriously considered Blondie for my TB mare last year, but as she was being bred at the ripe old age of 19, I decided to stick to live cover with a local TB, and have a lovely filly now. Still, I would give my right arm for that palomino Apollon daughter you have...and the Buckskin Mascarpone son...and well, just about anything at your farm!!!
Back to spots...I know it was mentioned by the OP that palomino is not one of their fav colors, but I am pretty sure I ran across a palomino sabino TB, I want to say in Canada somewhere...of course the name escapes me now, I will have to look it up...

sophab,
I did not mention my boys because they are in Germany and not available with fresh semen, only frozen. Blondie and Mirabeau are available via fresh semen in North America, which is much easier and more liked by the breeders.
Thank you for all your flattering comments. Do you mean the Palomino solid daughter of Apollon or the one with the Palomino spots? There is a Palomino spotted Apollon son in California - Agamemnon - to whom you could breed if you like Palomino AND spots. Which buckskin Mascarpone son do you mean? The solid dark buckskin one or the buckskin Pinto?
The Sabino Palomino TB in Canada and BTW the only one in the world with that coloring aside of Norsire's all white Palomino one, is named SATO and stands at True Colours Farm.

Alkmene and Midnight Dream and Nanett and Win the Gold, do you see where I am going with this?
I think if I hit the lottery I will buy you out!
They are all lovely. I am more of a fan of Appy spots than Paint spots, and absolutely love the dilutes. I am sure when my little Soph gets older (she's only 9 mos now) she will have lots of little dilute warmblood babies for me... My trainer recently discovered Blondie, and really likes him. She has a fabulous Art Deco 2 year old on the ground, and has been considering rebreeding his mother. It is such a dillemma, breed or show, you know?
Anyway, I am truly sorry to take over this thread...I was just so excited to see you here! I have been following your farm for a few years now, and think you are just putting such fantastic babies on the ground.

hunt_jump - finally back from moving!
Spot's sons that are standing at stud
- TCF Johnny Onna Spot will be *maybe* this year, but probably not until next year
- Spots in My Pocket - the owners have flitted around from PA, to MD, to NC to ??? in the last 1+ years, so no idea where he is now, but I know they have bred a couple of mares to him for 2004 foals.
The other colts were gelded, or died so no chance there. And no idea if Spot got any mares in foal from 2003 covers for 2004 foals yet.
Hope this helps

You know - when I had my LooksPalominoToMe colt, before the AI fiasco with Goldhope Farm, my intention was to buy a really pretty, typey palomino or chestnut appy filly with a nice snowflake blanket and 4 stockings and a blaze, big, nice mover, etc to breed to him, to produce (*Hopefully!*) a lovely 1/2 TB palomino Appy foal with the nice blanket and 4 white legs and blaze. THAT would be awesome!
Years back, Wayne McLellan showed a stunning buckskin Appy/TB cross in the hunter ring with the pretty blanket on its rump and 4 white legs and thin blaze. He was stunning! Looked like a well marked Appy, but about 16.1hh and the stride and elegance of the TB

I feel you there Spot. There was a beautiful Palomino Appy mare at the barn I used to board at. She was a little small for my taste...might technically have been a pony, but what a look to her. She even moved nice, which was a bonus. I almost had her owner convinced to breed her when life happened and she almost ended up sold, and the barn (appy's owner owned the place) ended up sold and yada yada yada. I would love to see what she passes on though.
Oh, the horses I would breed with all the money in the world...

hunt-jump - Johnny Onna Spot was my absolute favorite as well - hands down. He was funny and cheeky and had some really funny quirks about him - most of all the fact he LOVED being upside down - inside, outisde - didnt matter too much. I swore that he'd roll intentionally close to a wall every time so that he could lie on his back upside down like a dead beetle http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif . And every time we'd roll him back, he'd roll right back over onto his back. Literally - he would cast himself 5 or 6 or 10 times a day and then promptly go to sleep upside down ... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
He is in California with an APHA exhibitor that finished first in the nation in the Amateur division. I know she had him at the World show last year, and this year the plan is to campaign him consistently and hopefully finish first in his division
sophab - I love the palomino's and buckskin's, and I REALLY love the typical Appy markings (complete with blanketed bum! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ), but its usually impossible to find a big striding, 16hh+ one in a straight Appy, so I really believe that if you produced some nice dilute crosses, there would be one heck of a good market for them.

Appys! Sorry LOL. I would LOVE to have an Appy (or an Appy Sporthorse) as my Event/dressage mount.
I haven't found many that fit my fit my "requirements"...As far as height, build, Sporthorse-y.
I also LOVE black/bay leopards or black/bay solid with the appy butts or blankets.
I also wouldn't mind a dilute http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I simply haven't found them. The ones I did find, weren't for sale, i remember a couple years ago, a guy that rode with my trainer had a gorgeous leopard app TB gelding, PHENOMINAL movement...Not for sale! and if he was there would be a HEFT Price tag...
...That's my other problem, I would like to buy or lease one (not breed, too many variables) and I haven't seen many around me and Importing from canda just isn't do able right now http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
My partner breeds Pinto/dilutes Sporthorses and sportponies, lol and I have even told ehr, I am GOING to have an APP! (mare)...I just won't breed her to a pinto http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
But let me know where some are so I know where to look when I search again! Unless anyone is entertaining a lease LOL.
(I do love WapSpotted (and his line) and the "chocofetti"(JumperAppaloosas)? Also!

That was my "original" problem....so I found the stallion (gorgeous buckskin with snowcap blanket) and waited until I was able to buy him. I then crossed him with TB mares (he was a solid 16.2 himself) and "created" my breeding stock.
I now have solidly built, 16hh+, dressage/event prospects. Lovely manes, tails and conformation, but people still don't seem to be interested.
When I was looking for new blood to add to my program, I did have a great deal of difficulty finding good quality Appies....I bought from Alberta and Nova Scotia; the stuff I saw in Ontario was absolute crap....which could explain the reluctance of people to consider the breed; what they have seen around is not worth buying.
I guess I'm going to have to hit the show circuit with a vengeance this year in order to promote my product. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Crosswinds where are you???
I have seen her stallion Rambo and his offspring.
Besides the excellent temperament, flawless conformation, and FLOATY trots- like hunter hack winners, they are very flashy!!!!
I believe Crosswinds may be thinking about moving to Oklahoma where her daughter lives....
Maybe you could do live cover and have a JC registered foal????

Sure am. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I currently have a 5 yr. old TB/App palomino filly and a 3 yr. old TB/App palomino gelding. Hi Hidden Hill! We're still hanging out in NC! Trying to get started west, though.
Our web site is: www.crosswindshorsecenter.homestead.com (http://www.crosswindshorsecenter.homestead.com)
Last year Puchi's Rambo sired a GORGEOUS golden palomino colt out of a solid buckskin mare. The people LOVE him. We just sold a pure white sabino, 17 hand, 3/4 TB gelding to a client of Denny Emerson's for an event prospect. He'll be headed to California in the late spring. Rambo is also the sire of Spotted Up North, the successful painted TB showing in APHA. The looks movement and dispositions are taking these horses far in the competition world.

RaceRider - I LOVE Puchilingui and his offspring and have my Puchi Trap mare and Sato - who is owned by Jerry and Nancy Tyler.
Jerry is beyond the nicest man in the world to deal with, but to be honest, he is not looking for any outside mares to breed to Puchi. His very best and closest friend died last year, and he helped Jerry with all of his breedings, so he really no longer has anyone to assist him. Plus - he has very limited stabling (or - none at all for visiting mares) so he can only accept mares in around June/July when they can live outside which is too late for most people. He also has a full time business to run, has 40+ head of horses to look after every day by himself, is getting older and simply doesnt have the time to devote to accepting and managing outside mares.
Its a shame - I would love to see more Puchi offspring out there, but unless I bring Puchi here to breed him myself along with Sato, I dont think you are going to see it happen ...

Spot - It's a shame Jerry can't get some help with the horses, maybe Jenn or Robin should take over some part of the horse operations. I agree, he is the kindest, most wonderful man, and is like a father to me. Puchi is a lovely horse and produces wonderful color. Jerry does such a great job with the babies too.

RaceRider - now I know who you are! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I adore Jerry and I agree - he is beyond the nicest individual you could ever hope to do business with, and just to have as a friend as well. He is just such a decent human being - period - and what you see sure is what you get with him. I think that Jenn and Robin have their own family and own commitments and are limited how much they can help out, especially on a consistent basis during breeding season when you have bookings to visiting mares.
Jerry told me a year or so ago that if I ever wanted Puchi up here for a season, I was more than welcome to him - just to come by and pick him up. You know, the problem is, until you actually stand a stallion, you have no idea what goes into marketing, standing them, handling the responsibility of outside mares, taking them to be collected, etc, etc
If I wasnt in the starting-up-new-businesses mode, I might seriously consider doing so, but I honestly and truly cannot do so while still being fair to Sato, my family and the new businesses, plus the house we just moved into!
Maybe next year when everything sorts out I will find myself in a position where I could bring Puchi up here (if Jerry hasnt changed his mind! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif).
Sato is just plain a nice stallion to have around - he's fun to show off (well - when he hasnt rolled in the muck and looks like a mud puppy anyhow ... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif !) , easy to deal with and I can manage the bookings to him with little trouble. I am just concerned that if I had another stallion as well, especially one as popular as Puchi would be, I would end up doing a whole lot of things half-assed rather than a few things very well. THAT is the main reason why I have simply not pursued that avenue with Jerry at all.

quote:
Can't ya fit one more stud up with you! Imagine the $$ and interests that would come your way!

I know, I know ASplashofChampagne ... thats the whole problem - just how MUCH interest would come my way if I had Puchi here as well! And in the end, I'd probably be reduced to a babbling idiot ... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Awww.. thanks. I think he's pretty nice too. Well at least on days that he doesn't give me a hard time because he doesn't like walking through the mud at the gate. Funny thing though, he sure doesn't mind rolling in the stuff once he's in there. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
I'm just not set up to stand a stallion at all. I'd also need to take Stallion 101 classes before I'd even consider it. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif I loved Spottie because he was the only stallion I've been around that let you forget that he was a stud. So incredibly sweet and a gentleman in all ways. I'm still so sad he's gone.
Special Lady aka Carly... what a sweetheart. I have leased her from Spot so the 2004 Sato foal is mine all mine. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I hope I get gold AND spots too! vegas is gorgeous Nikita! which mare is he out of?
I remember seeing an ad for a palomino app stallion awhile ago, and although it was just one picture, he looked very nice... does anyone have an idea of who this horse might be?
A Fine Romance has been bred to App mares 3x and all three offspring have been coloured. The first one was a gorgeous leopard spot, really wildly coloured, looked like a TB, only coloured. I tried to buy him from the client, but she would not sell. Ithought he would make a stunning Sport Horse stallion prospect, but the owner gelded him. ( a colt was too much for her, and I respect that decison - but what a lovely horse! She bred back and got a colt again, snowflake, also a gelding now.
Another mare owner bred her leopard spot mare and got a chestnut filly with a blanket...just beautiful! Now there would be a filly to breed your palomino TB to Spotty!
I think there is an unfair bias against Apps, but there would be more of a market for them I think, if there were more "Thoroughbred" ones, the halter type just won't make it as a sport horse.

Nikkita- I hope someone does but him and keep him in tact if he is a good candidate. He's a lovely guy to carry on the spot pokect genes!
Good luck with the up coming foals. I'm really holding my breath for Spot and her puchi trap baby. I'm chanting bucksin sabino colt...buckskin sabino colt....LOL.
Fred- I agree with you about the apps. I have had 3 in my life and all of them were so exceptional and anyone that had seen them would have paid high $$ to have them. They were big 16.3* Tb-y WB looking guys and GREAT coats. One was a Palomino Appy, huge blaze, solid down to his rump had a rump blanket and four high white stockings. He had a gorgeous mane and taila lso, and movement! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
he was a gelding.
The one other really worth mentioning is the dressage/event app I used to school for a friend. same description but a bay leopard. was almost 3/4TB...I think when he sold he sold for 20k to an eventing woman.
Neither were halter types.
I just think they need to be Campaigned/Marketed agressively and effectively.

Thanks for all the nice comments about Vegas. On certain days I tell him he's going to made into stew http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif but overall he's a pretty nice guy. With the donkey teaching him manners, I expect no less. And hunt_jump if you win the lottery I can tell you, Vegas would love Florida.. he's a Florida kind of guy.
Fred - The dam - Elizabeth Victoria - is a mare I bought from Jim and Marianne Elder before Marianne passed away. I didn't know it at the time but she knew she was dying and trying to get homes for all of her horses. This mare was throwing a lot of white even bred to solid stallions and Marianne thought the breeding to Spottie was a pretty neat plan. She really wanted to see the baby but she didn't quite make it. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
Splash - I sure hope Spot gets her buckskin too. And then I hope she gives me P. Trap just because I'm such a nice sister. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I LOVE that mare!
And as far as the apps.... before getting Carly I was looking for a nice appy mare with the plan to breed her to GGold. It something I'd still love to do. If your eally know your stud, they can show you the world...and when brought up together the (stallions will kill others) can be a phalicy.
I have dealt with many mares and many stallions...and I must say when it comes to a war...I got the stallions back LOL

Well, my brat is now sold (though she stayed at the same farm) she is less of a brat now (at age 6) but I don't think that she will ever outgrow the spoiled princess attitude. I have had and dealt with mares in the past that were absolute dolls (including TBs). And I agree that if you can get a mare that isn't a complete brat that they can be wonderful. But I'm with you Splash, I've had a stud and been around stud colts and give me a well raised stallion any day. I think I am in a minority, but I love stallions especially as competition horses.

If your in the minority than let me jump in that boat with you!
Now, if we could just get training and boarding facilities to be more OPEN to stallions...then hmm I don't know about you, but I have a couple colts I can "pick up"! Unfortunately till I have my own place... I have stayed AWAY from really nice bred colts (who are in need of training to prove themselves) b/c it's just damn near impossible to board them...
There are probably reasons (not all people have "well mannered stallions")...and they probably chose to board them too!

I was lucky enough that my trainer found my stallion and loved him. I do know of a few boarding/training situations around me that would consider a stallion (though on a selective basis) for boarding, but I can understand why many don't. As wonderful and well mannered as my stallion was, he was not like having just any horse in the barn as I was always taught that you treat them like a horse (and expect them to act like a horse), but never forget that they are a stallion. I think stallions just require more mutual respect than most horses and when that is not realized is when problems arise.
If only I had the $$ and my gelding sold I wouldn't hesitate getting a really nice young stud colt.

I can understand very much also Hunt-Jump...I have BEEN in boarding facilities where there were stallions...that they just shouldn't have been there http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/no.gif
Ruins it for the better stallions with better owners.
I believe the same philosophy- ALL of the stallions I have ever worked with and owned, required, I should say DEMANDED more respect then any equine I have ever worked with... Well "princess filly" is an exception...but like I said, if I could FIND testicals SNIP SNIP LOL.
Never forget they are a stallion... and stallions will test too, much more than other horses.
and your right, the problem arise, when they fell they are not being treated "equally"...

I have three stallions and every one of them is a doll. I much prefer studs to mares, but I'll deal with whatever gets tossed my way. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
We don't board many horses, but have no problems taking in other stallions. If they are not respectful, we have a discussion with owner about the problem, recommend a price for fixing it and teaching them how to keep the horse intact and cooperative. If they don't want to fix the problem, they are asked to geld the horse or move.
As for raising colts together, I currently have 3 two year old colts all living in the same paddock. No problems since "daddy" is just across the lane and they are still intimidated. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Jan. 7, 2004, 01:28 PM
Before I got Spot Pocket, he was apparently turned out in a paddock with a retired gelding and they adored each other!
When I went to visit Blazing Colours Farm, their TB stallion is turned out with their gelding and they said that it is the stallion who is picked on more than vice versa!
Sato and Spotty were always integrated with the mares and expected to toe the line in those circumstances. They were housed together, were cross tied in front of the mares stalls, the mares were cross tied in front of theirs and they were expected to behave and if they didnt - they were dealt with.
I think the whole big problem with stallions is when they are insulated, kept totally away from the mares except for breeding and isolated from all other horses and cannot interact they way nature intended them to do so. Heck - even with Spotty and LooksPalominoToMe, we intentionally lessened the distance between their paddock fences so they could play that stupid face game with each other over the fence. They came in with fur pulled out of their faces, but they played together, interacted and socialized together and were happy stallions.
I hate when the stallions only see the mares when they breed them and people wonder why they get so cranked and are so hard to handle at times when they even SEE a mare http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
In every single case, no matter where I have boarded, the mares cause more problems than any stallion on the property. I love mares and love dealing with them but they are more tempermental to deal with and let you know it when you do not treat them well.

I loved that movie, but that was one disturbing BBQ! Has anyone ever read Carl Hiaasen? He is a great author that writes the funniest novels as well as a column for the Miami Herald. I really shouldn't be looking at getting a new horse at all. I've only ridden a handful of times in the last 3 years and haven't shown at all in over 3 years. Instead I have been trying to sell off my show horses (finally down to one). But I have managed to get drawn back in this year and would love to find the oppertunity to have a youngster (possibly a stud colt) to bring along. I am still trying to finish school and I am not currently interested in showing (hence why I want to sell my horse), but I really miss the horses. I always loved bringing along the babies. I don't know if getting a new horse when mine sells will happen or not, you never know.

The pictures of the chestnut and little bay jumping on the homepage and recently sold page are of me. That chestnut is the reason I am so interested in the Full Pocket blood. He is the other favorite of the horses I have had and is by Fighting Fit who is by Full Pocket. FMF.. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/lol.gif, that is so true!
I hope Pintofoal does not kill me for saying this, but the first time, Liz and I were live covering a mare and her mom came to watch..this is what flew out of her mouth, when she watched for the first time.
And I quote "What in the Hell does the mare get out of that! I know I would not get anything out of that...it was too quick!"
I think, Liz and I being in our naive early 20s, just about died at her commment! We did tell her the mare really does not get much out fo the three strokes and it's over deal. The vet once described it to me as like getting an itch scrated, but no BIG O's for the mares! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

Norsire - Now that is where by "boys" do all things correctly. We do live cover only and they take their sweet time. Robby- Faint? no....Laugh my A$$ off? Yes....
I was collecting a huge grey Irish draught stallion...I had live covered a couple times before but not many. Well Lemme tellya...That big grey was the most romantic lover I have probably EVER seen! (Horse OR human!)
We had to urge him to actually GET UP and "do his thing"...Even the mare was getting pissy. He just wanted to live and chew and "sweep her off her feet"...
Our Vet was female and she goes- Geez, I wish I could find a man that takes this much pride in "foreplay"!!!!
I about died...I was 18 I think. and I STILL blushed.
FMF- Your wild....I remember my mom (extremely NON-horsey) asking what AI was..and how it worked with the horses...so me being "me" I told her...all the sudden she just blurts out (and this is a very conservative/"high class" typa woman) "So you just basically JERK him off"? (moderators delete if too provocative)...I almost died laughing.....
Needless to say I was 18 too at this point and well all that was going through my head was "Man- I'm glad she doesn't know about my interest in boys http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)
http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/uhoh.gif Moms??

Didn't faint, but was almost knocked out http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif.
The stallion we learned on paddled outrageously with his left foreleg while he was on the dummy. It was the handler's job to hold the leg down tight once he was up. One of the days I was handler, his hind legs slipped out from under him (the mat had shifted or something, don't remember), his foreleg was jerked out of my hold, flew up and whacked me in the chin. Really rang my bell, thats for sure! But I did have a huge bruised lump for a week and a good story to tell at parties. Faint? No. But we did get a good laugh. My first experience with collecting or breeding was when I was about 18 and had my stallion. He had covered a few mares as a two year old before we got him, but didn't breed again for probably a year. My mom and I were there when they were collecting him for frozen (I was not handling him) and he was too funny. You would think that he had never bred before. They couldn't get him to mount the dummy so they used this really old QH mare as a jump mare (we had him collected on a local QH breeding farm). The poor boy kept wanting to jump her neck. He couldn't quite figure the whole thing out. The poor mare was just standing there like "what the *&$!*% is he doing?!?!".

LOL HuntJump....That's what I said! I go run errands and POOF...People respond.
"My old man" My first stud did the same as yours... But I just loved the look on his face..."I know I can I know I can I know I can"
I had a QH mare, the only mare that really "put up" with him..she would literally stand stock still and sigh until he FINALLY figured out what to do... http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
Then I had a "hussy" who wanted it so bad she would just start stomping and wiggle to "accomodate" him...
How funny they can be.... http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/uhoh.gif

We were covering a mare one day while a plumber or carpenter (don't remember which) was there repairing something. When most men witness a breeding, they invariably make some comment like "Now, THAT'S the kind of job I want." or something to that effect.
When the stallion was done (after the usual 3-4 strokes) and I was leading the mare away, I heard the guy saying to himself "That poor mare. Not much for you, huh?" I couldn't help myself. I turned around and said "I think I love you. Will you marry me?" He turned beet read and went back to work!

Im back to play too!
After an incredibly hectic week, I just downed pretty well a full bottle of wine, started putting away my good china and crystal and then decided (wisely! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif) that probably wasnt the best of ideas, so here I am to play until I get snoozy and want to go to bed!
You know - I bet between the lot of us, we would have enough material to fill a book on breeding funnies and stories!
Like the one of the client who didnt want me to cover her mare more than once or she would conceive with twins, and twins were bad for a horse, so she was going to come and pick her up right away before I tried to cover her anymore! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
It wasnt until I explained it in terms that she could understand - like - if you had sex with your husband 3 times in one night and got pregnant, did that mean that you would conceive with triplets??? that she finally conceded that maybe I was right -I *should* cover her mare again if she was still "in" ... sigh ...
Or - the time I was inseminating a mare with syringe #2, I guess I pushed the rod up against the back wall too far, the semen wouldnt come out and when it did - bwam!!! - it exploded 60 cc's of nice fresh cooled semen all over my face and hair like a poorly constructed bad porno flick !
or - the first time I was cleaning Spotty's sheath, and as I had my arm buried up there to my armpits, he started to hump my arm, which the people in the barn found hilarious while I was totally mortified! And in never fails - when you ARE doing something like that, some non horsey person is just bound to walk by and of course thinks you are some disgusting pervert who gets their jollies from pleasuring the boys ...
Nikita had a good one too - she was inseminating her Paint mare one time, and she decided to pee copious amounts as she had the rod in there and the syringe attached, so poor Nikita is up on tippy toes trying to avoid the gushing pee as she is standing in the line of fire, and her hubby (who is holding the mare)makes the intelligent comment of" Did you know Cheyenne is pee-ing?"
"NO!!! " says Nikita - "I had NO idea that yellow liquid pouring out of her backside was pee! Thanks SO much for letting me know!" http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
You know - I bet we could write one HECK of a book ...

It has been slow tonight. I just kind of figured that I was the only one at home. I really wish I could get rid of this stinking cold that I've had for the past 10 days.
I would like to know if that client of spot's thought the same thing about people having twins. I can just imagine her husband trying to convince her otherwise.
My poor trainer got the duty of showing my stallion in the conformation hunters when he started showing in the greens. He was always very well behaved even when having to model behind the mares. But we were showing in Wellington one week and the model was taking quit a while. My trainer had the worst time getting him to keep it in. He wasn't being bad, just bored???

Time for a brief funny from me. (Last night I was teaching http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif and by the time I finished I was chilled to the bone so I had a nice long bath. Yup, hubby FINALLY got the tub in. Renovations are a PITA.)
Anywho....I was live covering a mare with my old stallion (who had the BIGGEST penis I have ever seen in my life). My neighbour from across the road had brought her 10 year old daughter over to watch. After all was done, the mother turned to me and whispers: "Is she (the daughter) ever in for a disappointment when she gets older." I laughed so hard I almost dropped the lead. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

LOL FMF-
I've had many say that to me also. A recent topic that i thought I would share was "sheath cleaning"...A good friend of mine was talking to me about working a horse that recently boarded at her farm. When I asked if she got ahold of her she had said the basic "yes, but she's not interested in spending the money"...I shrugged and said "to each his own"...
My friend was a little irritated and I asked "what's up"...
She told me that she had to inform said person
that her horses sheath needed cleaning...
the woman looked ta her and said "Isn't that what I pay YOU to do (board)"...
Anyways back to the point. I was telling my SO this and the roomates were home, the NON-horsey roomates...They needed a sheath definition, I gave it... these are both males... and they just looked at me with gapped mouths.... http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/uhoh.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
and then the smart remark from roomate #1- "Horses have it made...they have bigger <insert word for anatomy here> AND they get it cleaned FOR them...."
http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/uhoh.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif It's always interesting to see the expression when a female equestrian relays the sheath cleaning stories to the NON-horsey male.....

FMF- I have relayed that message to them, they aren't too thrilled with that factor...
The one roomate however made the startling revelation that (and these were HIS words)
" maybe if the humans viewed the human race/genetics, as they do the equine or dog world, then there wouldn't be so many fat/stupid/sadistic people roaming the world"
I had to walk away for fear of spitting out the soda I had just gulped down.
He ran off with this idea into one of "downsizing crime and drugs by downsizing the amount of men and women with reproductive anatomy"....

Yes, Wild By Design is in PA. His sire Bright White has moved to Lexington KY and has been returned to training with grand prix jumper rider Mark Stopford. From what I hear Airdrie Apache thows the dam for size.....so you would be OK for size there if your mare is big, but he will not improve her size any.
