Word is they are still going to happen....but as of last Saturday someone from our barn had a friend drive by the show location and ground has not been broken for competition rings, I don't know about water and electric being hooked up. But I have also heard that they are using some sort of rubber footing so it will only take a couple of days to get them built. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
We are not going because we decided to do both weeks of Equifest instead.

We are going. We called on Friday and spoke with the person running the show (we had concerns about the Grand Prix not having enough entries and cutting the prize money down). They garenteed that the grand prixs would be on. She also told us that about 300 entries are in and that they are waving the late fees so that people can still get entries in (at least until Wed. 23rd). They are expecting 500 horses. In addition, she said there are people from Texas, Mexico and Canada all coming so it should be a new crowd.
Rubber footing is great we have it. It is little chunks of rubber (think old tires chopped up). It helps cushion the horses feet and doesn't hold water (mud). Not to worry it is mixed with dirt so it's not all rubber. We have never had any problems with it and have had it for about 3 years!

Hi, I was in KY and spoke to Alex and Dean. THey said that the camper spaces and rings were being worked on and some were in. They are not putting in fencing just yet. Blake Alder went up last week to work on the rings. Alex and Dean are going up this week until the show to work also.
I am going up for the 3 weeks as a vendor. I wish I had a new horse to show. I am really looking forward to going. It will be nice to go to a show that is not at Win-A-Gin!!! There is alot to do and see in Traverse City.

I can't go up this weekend, but I will be up 4th of July weekend. I will take pictures of Meadowlane Dr and 31.
I was there Memorial Day weekend and it was a hay field. Susan (slp) told me a relative of hers said it was still a hay field. Maybe we have the wrong hay field?
Any volunteers to do a drive by and take some pics this weekend?

No, she did not mention anything about the construction. However, we didn't exactly bring it up.
I would assume that if they promise there will be a grand prix each week that the rings will be done (no matter what needs to be done). Not to mention if they actually want people to come back next year!!! I can't imagine it would take THAT long to make rings though.

I asked my trainer about the ring construction. She said a limestone base takes 4 days to settle. Other than that, you have to add labor and weather into the mix.
Here is an interesting article on arena contruction Arena Contruction (http://www.perma-flex1.com/ph-article2.html) but it states 30 days for the base to settle. And here is a review on Perma Flex, which is what I heard (rumors, rumors, rumors, lol) the footing would be Perma Flex (http://www.perma-flex1.com/excerpt.htm).

Alex & Dean,
I have never seen you personally post here, but I do know you have friends who do and I know they must relay to you what is being said.
Could/Would you please have them or you post here. As of last saturday someone slp knows did a drive by and nothing has been started.
There are alot of people who are planning on attending but it is looking bleek.
If not here maybe over on the Bay Harbor site???
Would be very much appreicated.
Please respond to slp post especially. Dean told alot of people while in Kentucky that the construction had been started and equipment dropped off, but the drive by showed nothing.
Thanks....What are we to expect????

I will post here on behalf of HSBB since Dean & Alex are busy setting up in TC and for Waterloo. Preparation is well underway for HSBB and you all have been told that the shows are a go and that the site will be ready. If any of you feel the need to drive up and take a picture, be sure to honk so that Dean and Blake can wipe the sweat off their faces first. Maybe even email them DIRECTLY and let them know what time you're driving by so they can be sure to wave http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif
As SemiAutomatic pointed out, this is year 1 of a hopefully long and successful run of AA rated shows in Northern MI. As for rubber, there is no rubber, flat out.
Any other questions should be sent directly to the show management if you would like an answer promptly. Otherwise, I'm sure they'll be looking forward to seeing everyone soon for what promises to be the best thing to hit the Midwest since BOH.

A friend talked to Dean yesterday, Here is what she was told, The footing will be removable, Electric will be of the generator type and Water will be hauled in. All facilities will be of the temporary kind, Rings, stabling comfort facilities ect...The other note was that the fields were being hayed while construction was commencing which is why the person looking at the hay fields may have not seen any construction going on. This show willbe a go. As to the specifics of the footing, it was not discussed. I myself did email them in regard to camping and recieved a prompt answer. These are the facts as relayed to me. Hope this helps.
I get the impression that some here feel it rude or unwarrented to discuss this horse show in public. If I have mistaken a certain posters tone then I apoloigize, many of us here in Michigan are Extremely excited and hopeful that this show be a success... and wish the promoters the best of luck and hope all goes smoothly. I think it's pretty natural for us to discuss and trade information here on the COTH board. If the Michigan posters seem a little anxious it's because they have been disappointed before and as the saying goes once burned twice shy. If I might add many of us on this board will be going , It would be lovely to meet some of the COTH posters, I believe some of you are Smirinoff Twister Fans , Perhaps that can be how we can spot each other?

Hay! Count me in! We will be there the second week. I'll have the Smirnoff Raspberry. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif We will have to work something out so we all recognize each other. Maybe a PT is in order when it gets closer to show time.
I did find someone who knows someone who lives in the trailer park on Meadowlane Dr and 31. She's got a digital camera and I asked that she say hi to Dean and Blake and get their picture if she feels comfortable with it. That should settle everything.
PS - on the footing, this is only what we have heard via rumors. You know how rumors are in MI. At least most of the ones I hear are positive. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Y'all can post away about whatever topics you like, HSBB included. H/J asked for info, I just told y'all how to get it correctly. It would just be nice if you tried to confirm your information before posting on a public forum so that you don't get everyone's undies in a bunch over false rumors.
Here's some corrections...
Footing will not be rubber and I have no idea what 'removable' even means.
Installed and buried electric will be powered by generators.
Water will not be hauled in, it will be from a well on-site.
Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just telling it like it is!

Update this afternoon from someone that lives up there and personally drove by to check it out; well has been dug, earth movers are in cutting and grading the roads, etc.....it's definately a go. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
And our barn will be there the first 2 weeks, unfortunately my daughter and her horse won't because we had a family vacation scheduled, but we may get up there to watch a bit after we get home the second weekend. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Hi, gang! Just thought I should post here, even though I think that personal emails and phone calls are the best way to conduct our business! As made aware by SLP, yes, construction is taking place. Check it out this weekend...you'll get a good idea of how things are coming along. If anyone knows of people still on the fence, get them to send in their entries...we need accurate stall counts soon!
And for those coming: my dear friend Titan is planning a "how low can you go? LIMBO party for the second week!
So, get limbered up, people! We are going to have fun this summer! And we promise you that no matter what, we have the knowledge and the resources to make this happen! Please give us a call, too....numbers are in the PL!

Well Alex, I think the footing and base will be spectacular, as I think you do my trainer's place too.
Unfortunately, this show is about 6 hours or so away and does compete with some others closer, plus the fact it's new. Lots of us Ammies need to plan our vacation time in to do shows more then an hour or so away. Didn't really have the info in time for all that.
I hope it kicks in and keeps going so we can plan it in for next year.
Those of us here in Ohio have gotten kicked in the teeth show wise with broken promises aplenty.
Good luck and maybe we will get up there next year.

I'm the "gal with the new tack shop in Milford" (actually in New Hudson) http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif! I won't be at the show, and the Rasberry Smirnoff's makes me regret that. I will be helping with some sponsorship, tho...
My store is Sporthorse Saddlery www.sporthorsesaddlery.com (http://www.sporthorsesaddlery.com) and the exit off I-96 is 155, South Lyon/Milford/New Hudson. We're on Grand River, just east of the 5-way intersection w/ Milford Road and Pontiac Trail. Finding us right now can be tricky.... the building is on the south side of the road, and looks like a complete construction zone at the moment and has no address on it, just a "For Lease" sign in front...the store is on the east side of the building where the parking area is. Most days we have a lifesized inflatable horse on my car out by the road...except when he springs leaks.
Look forward to meeting you...I love meeting cyber-people!

I heard there is construction at Bay Harbor that will not allow enough space for the shows.
Regardless, this is not an issue. Construction of the new rings are under way at the new site south of Traverse City as evidenced in the pics attached above. I've seen the site before construction started and it is a level, well drained, and large field. Access is easy off a paved highway, just a few miles south of Grand Traverse Mall. Several nice major hotel chains are nearby, maybe 10 minutes.
I'm excited that this wonderful group of people are doing this in Michigan. And what a beautiful area to hold shows. So much to do between show days, all within reasonable travel time. If anyone wishes to get adventurous, you can travel to Mackinac Island just a few hours away. Mackinac Island (http://www.mackinac.com/) Its well worth the trip.
And bring golf clubs. There are quite a few very nice golf courses surrounding the TC area.

Absolutely true, and as someone that has spent years up in this area, the Traverse City location is actually a much better place. Hotel rooms in the Bay Harbor area (north of Charlevoix, south of Petoskey) are not available in large quantities and what is there is very $$$. The TC location has so many more local amenities for the people coming in, a much wider availablity of hotel rooms at more reasonable prices, etc. Plus the drive is at least an hour shorter which is a big plus in my book. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
And the show organizers had the location changed months ago on the USEF competitions website so nobody should have been taken by surprise about the change in location.
Hope everyone has a fantastic time and we will definately be there next year!

More directions, and a link to a Michigan road map: Michigan road map (http://www.michigan.gov/mdot/0,1607,7-151-9622_11033_11151-65571--,00.html)
Coming up from the central section of MI, via I69, in Lansing take US27 north to Clare. Then just north of Clare, pick up M115/US10 west towards Cadillac/Ludington. In Mesick, you can then take M37 north all the way. M37 and US31 intersect at Chums Corner and both go north. The site is just about 1 mile north of there.
Coming up I94 from the southwest corner, in Kalamazoo take US131 north. You could take US31, but US131 is limited access highway and US31 is not. In Cadillac, take M115 to Mesick where you get on M37 north.
Another hint: you can get a free MI state road map on this link Order state road map (http://www.michigan.gov/mdot/0,1607,7-151-9622_11033_11151-30026--,00.html). Its the printed version of the link above.

Yes!
The cherry fest is ongoing right now, so the cherries should be plentiful, too. Bought about 4 pounds of the dang things this past weekend and everyone ate them all up!
Also drove by the grounds. No heavy equipment there this past weekend, but with the holiday and Waterloo going on, that did not bother me. I could see one ring without driving onto the grounds. The road was muddy and even with my Tahoe in 4wd, I was not going to risk getting stuck.

Bummer. The cherries we bought in Lake City said they were MI cherries. I did think their supply was a bit low for the festival to be going on.

They WERE Michigan cherries....just not local ones, LOL!
They shipped them in from down state where they were already ripe.

Oh I posted a couple weeks back about it but in short form:
I had a simple yet bad fall off my friends horse and broke the talus bone in my ankle in half and dislocated everything in there (the talus holds the two leg bones into the ankle). I had surgery and had two pins put in and now I'm recovering. I can't put weight on it for 8 weeks (5 weeks left now) and then it'll still be likely until September or October until I can ride again. I have to have lots of physical therapy. The doctors are really worried about the blood supply to the bone because I broke it right where that is supposed to go in. So if it doesn't heal right I will need a total ankle replacement.
Not the most fun way to spend the summer! My poor horse was doing so well too. I'm working on bribing people to take me to shows so I can get out a bit. I think my mom would like to go up to the cottage to convincing her to go on one of the weeks of the shows seems to be working http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hope the blood supply is okay. Wow, no one needs something like that, at any age.
And you are right, not a good way to spend the summer. If I remember right, you were going to try to make at least one show this summer. Total bummer.
I will definately look for you in the second weet at TC. My kid and her "pony" will be there that week. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I think there are some organized golf outings planned. I know our trainer golfs, so I think she is signed up.
Personally, we will spend time at our lake house to the south of TC. We are only showing for the middle week, so it is really just an extention of a weekend for us. We will probably take some of the others who are not familiar with TC and "up north" and show them around a few of the more quaint towns. Maybe a trip to the lighthouse at the tip of Lealanau. Or a tourist/shopping trip to Charlevoix/Petosky area. And of course, Miller's Antiques in downtown TC.

Good heavens, Alex, break out the scatter gun! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
Can't have those pesky hot air balloons dropping in during the shows. I have scars on my right upper arm from just that thing happening at a show a few years ago. Scared the jeepers out of the Arabs in the stall across from my dtr's horse during our 4H days. Give 'em one warning shot, then blow them out of the sky - um, but do it on Monday only. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
No comment on the copter. Maybe it was someone from Traders Point or HITS spying?
Can't wait until the show next week. Couldn't make it up there this week. We'll be at the lake over this weekend, so we may swing by if we take a drive that way.

Not sure what direction you are coming from. From Chums Corner, go north towards TC about a mile, and you will see on the left Meadowlane Dr. The property is bordered on the north by Meadowlane Dr, which has a trailer park on the other side of the street. Just before Meadowlane Dr, you will see a KFC.
I actually did find Meadowlane Dr on a map, see attached.

Haven't heard about this week. Most of the MI people I know are doing the last 2 weeks also. Our barn included. Although when I spoke to our trainer yesterday, she said she had spoken to someone there about stalls and they said they were very busy and swamped. Good sign!
Junior hunters should fill, but not sure if enough for large and small split (that would be nice). The eqs should fill also.
My dtr will be doing the large jrs and the USEF medal, possibly the Maclay. She's been doing the jrs all season, but only did her first 3'6 medal last weekend. We have a rider at our barn using her horse for medals, but only has USET left to qualify, so she will ride him in that one.
See you there!

Yes, the GP was great, and I agree about the PA system at least at the GP ring. We were sitting by the announcer's tent, so maybe that was why it sounded low in volume.
Saw some beautiful horses up from Texas and Mexico in the GP. Could some of the Texas horses been from our own COTH member ProzacPuppy? From the Houston area, The Woodlands maybe?
Our barn's horses head out at 6am Tues morning. My dtr and I follow after work, and be on the grounds Wed morning for the show this week only. Dtr's horse is staying the last week with our medal rider leasee while we go back to the real world, um, I mean work.

You are welcome! Hepburn is quite the standout. Couldn't help but notice her. Congrats on a lovely jumper!
And yes, there is one more week. I am trying very hard to get my dtr back up there for jr hunters which was moved to Wed afternoon from Thurs afternoon, but am not convinced I will have her there in time. Still working on it....

For the most updated results, please log on to www.stadiumjumping.com (http://www.stadiumjumping.com). Also, the jrs are going on Wed and Thurs as originally planned to accomodate those going to Jr Finals...sorry if you didn't catch that in the original PL.

Alex, the Stadium Jumping website only has results from the last show through Friday; no results posted from 2nd day of juniors or A/O's, A/A's or any of the classics or Grand Prixs. (Saturday and Sunday were never updated)

*snork* Goofy teens, eh? I keep trying to look at my 15 yr old son thru' his girlfriends' eyes, but it just doesn't happen for me. http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Dtr says she didn't think Charlie was much to look at last fall at Harrisburg, so maybe he is "maturing". http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif

Alex, if you see this, I don't want to beat a dead horse http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/winkgrin.gif but in the results that are posted for week 2, there aren't any results shown for the Jr/A.O Classic, nor are any of the 2nd day of Junior Hunters (small and large) posted. Small and Large Junior Championship results are also missing.
Just curious about how some friends did! http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif

Hey slp! Haylie Jayne was champ Large Juniors last week on Quidam. Possibly res champ on Clemintine. Higgins got a couple of 3rds! World Star and Universal were champ/res champ small jrs. Not sure which was which.
Can't say much about this week as I am not there, but the jrs dropped from 20 horses, large and small, to 7 or 8 combined.
Yes, the series has been great. We really enjoyed being there last week, and I know my dtr is still enjoying this week as well. Looking forward to at least visiting for next year, as dtr is headed for college and horse is up for leasing out.

Great class again today. The Welcome, with 21 starters, was won today by another International Rider...Marcus Wild on Solitude's Jas, Solitude Farm, owner, had a double clear and beat two others in the jump off. The Kiwi prevailed! Even though the rain was pouring down during the first round we had a great turnout much in part to Cyndi Starr's fantastic homeade chili! Thanks for all that have come out this year..we have really enjoying the show!

I just got back from the show. It was alot of fun! I really hope we can do three weeks next year. It took Cento (Abacus)a week of getting used to being in the middle of an open field since he's still really green, but the second week (third of the show) he was great in the juniors. Texas was pretty good the first week but not so great the second http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/cry.gif It was at such a cool location, I loved renting wave runners and jumping on the water trampoline on Monday! http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Oh I forgot! Did anyone watch Lisa go on all fours in the Special Hunters, or jump the 4'3'' verticle on her hands and feet after the show. That was a sight http://chronicleforums.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif its to bad she couldnt make it all the way around that was a long course to canter on all fours!

Grand Prix update - Erin Haas was on fire this week getting all three of her GP mounts in the jump off and taking home the win and a third. The kiwi also got his three in the jump off and took home the red ribbon. Congrats MI riders for taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The other two rides to make the 8 horse jump off were Kevin from TX and Angel from Mexico. The weather was spectacular and we're all sorry to see this series end for the season. See everyone again in 2005. Keep practicing that limbo!

Just wanted to thank the organizers of HSBB for a job well done. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/yes.gif It was a great show and would love to see them back in the Traverse City area again.
Also wanted to ask when week 3 results would be up, and when week 2 would be completed. Any news in that area?
BEQ - Both your horses are beautiful! You did a great job both weeks. 15 - 17 eq champ week 2, large jr hunter champ week3! Congrats!

First , Congrats to HSBB. Next year is gonna be huge. Now does anyone know if the photographer has a website to order proofs from. We were up there only the first week and the Sunday proofs weren't available at the time.

Sorry Lauren! I did not see this before. Dtr had a blast both weeks. She could not find an eq distance the third week, but was close to reserve champ for the large jr hunters! They originally called her for it, then said they added wrong and Georgio got it instead. http://chronicleforums.com/images/custom_smilies/sigh.gif That was a great experience for her regardless of the ribbons. Charlie was definately a class act at the shows but if you really want to talk about cute, how 'bout this one Kate took of our two "leadliners" before the final GP.
